Opinions de Taiwan Restaurant San Jose
My entire family loves this place. I have been taking my family there since the early 90's when my kids were 2-3 years old. some of the same staff are still here. I believe the food is excellent and we always get great service. We love the lettuce cups and the soups are great.
Excellent food. I love their eggplant with noodles. Their pineapple fried rice comes inside the pineapple and is beautiful as well as yummy. Next time I'll remember to take a picture before we dig in.
I have been going to this restaurant for the last 20 years. Even with the new ownership, the food quality is still great. The wait staff is very friendly. I know most of them and some even remember what I normally like to order. Their uniform is so cute and adorable.
I ordered food for pick up, a lunch special. I was disappointed in the size of the chicken salad that came with it, it was maybe two bites worth. I feel like I have been ripped off. I'm giving five stars for the wonderful customer service only.
Very good food with reasonable price
This is the best restaurant to ever exist on the planet!!!. Every other Chinese food restaurant I’ve been too is too greasy and not clean.. Taiwan is the opposite!!!! It is a PHENOMENAL restaurant!! The people working are so genuine, the atmosphere is authentic, and the food is beyond expectations!!! Many thanks to you guys, I’ve spent Christmas dinner here, Valentine’s Day, my birthday here because you guys rock. You are consistent. Thank you
Went for dinner and food was very good with very friendly service. The decor is exquisite and spacious. Prices are very reasonable as portions are generous. Loved the sweet and sour pork...!
We have never had a bad experience here. The Food is great. One of our favorites is the mixed egg fu young. They are always friendly efficient.
This is a cute little place we get takeout from all the time. The food is great. We often get the chicken fried rice, sweet and sour pork and beef and broccoli. But we will mix it up sometimes too and are never disappointed.
This restaurant had great food and lots of it. We had the mango cod, Singapore noodles, and Chinese broccoli chicken. I did not care for the Chinese broccoli but the chicken was good. We took home leftovers. The plates were paper and plastic utensils because of COVID.
Amazing food and atmosphere at reasonable prices. Best potstickers! You can taste the care that goes into every dish. A must any time I'm in San Jose.
Some of the best Chinese food in the bay area. This spot has been a Willow Glen treasure for decades. The ingredients are always incredibly fresh and the flavors are amazing. If you are in the area and in the mood for Chinese food you won't be disappointed. In fact, it will probably become one of your favorites.
This is an amazing and wonderful restaurant! The food is truly delicious and healthy. The friendliness of the owner and staff excels! They accommodate special food needs as well as meeting requests for no msg, low salt, light sauce, etc. Really, Taiwan is a gem of a place! (Parking is in back of the restaurant or on Lincoln Ave.)
I love this place the lady at the front she’s so sweet and always helpful sometimes they can take a while to bring out your food if you come in lunch hour since there’s a lot of businesses around but it’s worth the wait! Their lunch special is so fulfilling!
I ordered a take out through the phone, it was a pleasant exchange because it was quick and convenient. I ordered chicken fried rice, Mongolian beef, and orange chicken. All were VERY GOOD portions. All of these items were able to feed 2 people in two separate meal times. The fried rice was well flavored with a good amount of chicken bits. Mongolian beef was good but not my favorite. The star was the orange chicken! Not overly sweet but lightly surprising to the senses. Very savory and just sweet enough with a citrus twist. Would return for take out. Service was fast.
My friend and I went here just as the opened at 430. The staff is really sweet. We were given Hot and Sour soups on the house as a starter and I kid you not.... BEST HOT AND SOUR SOUP I HAVE EVER HAD. The tangerine beef is also really good. I would fully recommend coming here. The atmosphere was relaxing and neither dark or too bright.
Very good service. Our waitress Amy ordered for us and chose well! The food was tasty and prepared well. The beef mushroom soup was particularly a standout as was the chili pepper beef. Pineapple fried rice was also very good and not at all greasy. The Chinese brocolli and spicy chicken though tasty was not memorable. Nice ambience.
Today my wife and I went there for my birthday. It was our first time to eat there and it had been recommended to me by a coworker. It's beautifully decorated, the owner is our and about through the restaurant and even prebussed our table. The food is top notch and the service was great. While we were there, the was at least half dozen repeat customers that came in. That says a lot in itself. I owe my friend at work a good favour for turning me on to this great place to eat. We will be repeat customers as well!
Food is amazing! We absolutely love the quality of the food! The amazing customer service! They have many vegan and vegetarian options and it’s super flavorful. We love the salt and pepper tofu and the veggie stir fry! The best restaurant on willow glen to eat at
Wow! I genuinely don’t know if I’ve had better Chinese food. There were so many moments where I was like, “oh this is how it’s supposed to taste like?” It was divine. Best cooked meat. Best spices. Cooked to perfection!
Lived in Willow Glen all my life, and I remember when this restaurant opened! I’ve been coming here since I was a child and have always loved it! There’s no better pick for Chinese food in all of San Jose. Take out or sit down — they’re both delicious! The best Chow Mein I’ve ever eaten, & the cod and eggplant is divine. Try them-you’ll be happy that you did!
I love ordering their lunch specials to go during the week. The staff is always friendly and they greet you with a smile. The food was delicious and prepared fresh. The prices are very reasonable. I will be back again soon.
I have been coming here since birth and it's as delicious as it was on day one. The honey Walnut shrimp is just ridiculous. Best thing I've ever eaten. I also love the broccoli beef, Chow mein, salt and pepper shrimp, and orange chicken. Everything here is good. Also the service is so fast it's almost alarming.
I don't usually go to Chinese food but this is where my sister-in-law wanted to go for her birthday. The food was really wonderful. Came out fast and hot. The service was great and the whole staff was really really sweet. Hugging us on our way out. I would definitely come again the next time I'm in San Jose
Great selection of dishes. Attentive staff and the food was perfect. Cod with eggplant, mmmmmmm. Just enough breading and the sauce! We also had the tofu veggie lettuce cups which were refreshing and tasty.
Food is very fresh and tasty. The orange chicken has a crisp outer layer but soft on the inside. The people that work there are attentive, friendly, and respectful. It is a great place for some lunch or a great night out for dinner. It is kid-friendly, family friendly and I see a lot of couples there too. The environment it nice and has a cultural atmosphere that is great to see. I love this place and I’ll definitely come back. By the way there is plenty of parking across the street from the CVS parking lot.
I had never been here before but I was pleasantly surprised the menu was vast and the dishes were wonderful! They have an excellent lunch menu with a lot of variety in it. I went with a group of about 13 and we all got great service, great food and a very happy!
Delicious food, quality is there for dine in and take out as well. I love the shrimp lettuce cups and the service and interior design is lovely (:
Nestled in the heart of Willow Glen (San Jose), Taiwan Restaurant offers an unparalleled dining experience. It is definitely a culinary gem that stands out for its exceptional Chinese cuisine, charming ambiance, and impeccable service. Whether you're a seasoned food enthusiast or simply seeking a memorable dining experience, Taiwan Restaurant is sure to exceed your expectations and leave you craving for more. As a fan of fine dining, I had the pleasure of indulging in their delectable array of dishes, each meticulously crafted to perfection. From the moment I took my first bite of the garlic eggplant over noodle, I was enchanted by the freshness of the ingredients and the harmonious blend of savory and aromatic spices. Another highlight of my dining experience was the pan-fried belt fish, a dish that exemplifies the Restaurant's commitment to using only the finest quality ingredients. The fish was cooked to perfection, with a delicate crispiness on the outside giving way to succulent and tender flesh inside. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, showcasing the restaurant's dedication to delivering excellence in every aspect of their cuisine. Beyond the culinary delights, Taiwan Restaurant also offers a welcoming and inviting ambiance that adds to the overall dining experience. The decor, adorned with traditional Chinese paintings and art, creates an atmosphere of elegance and refinement, providing the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable meal. Moreover, the impeccable service provided by the waitstaff further enhances the dining experience. The waiters and waitresses are not only attentive and efficient but also exude warmth and hospitality, making diners feel right at home from the moment they step through the door.
My 89 year old mom and I come here for their family meal quite often, we like the delicious appetizers, hot and sour soup, pineapple fried rice, and vegetable/mushroom dishes. The Taiwan Restaurant has the largest menu ever, it’s in a leather-bound binder. The menu would please almost any Chinese food connoisseur, we love to come here for a meal. Parking is around the corner behind the restaurant and is free. You can bring your relatives or friends, it won’t fail to disappoint. The restaurant decor is very pretty, as is the decorative dishware!
Food was good. The service was real good.
Came here for lunch today with my parents. I have been here once before for dinner and recommended my folks try it (they are picky with Chinese food). This is the most they have raved about a restaurant in a long time. My dad and I ordered a lunch special and my mom ordered the salt and pepper ribs a la carte. The server started off on the right foot and was kind enough to offer my mother a complimentary salad and soup so she would not be left out of the coursing. Very nice touch The food itself was very good and high quality. My dad who normally skips anything with veggies, ate the entire side salad. The hot and sour soup was balanced and very tangy and rich with hot tofu and mushrooms. The entrees were bright and fresh and served hot. The portions were large and generous. At the end the server asked how the food was with great courtesy. Overall the service was the last aspect of the experience that was perfect. He anticipated our need for to go boxes, was timely on my to go order, and was interested truly in our feedback. Thank you for impressing me and my folks. You have a customer for life
Food was good. We received the wrong food first but they quickly replaced with what we ordered.
The food here is amazing! My husband used to travel often to China & Taiwan. He says this is the best Chinese food he's ever had. I agree!
Highly recommend this restaurant. The food is very delicious and tasty. The service is good. There is not plenty of parking around this area but this place is very good.
Always consistent, fast service, relaxing music, very clean and very busy. Door dash is now an option and the drivers are stacked up in wait mode. Don't let the street view fool you as the pile of folks waiting are not always dining in. Park and don't be afraid to muscle in and get on the wit list. Typically it's no more than 10-25 minutes. I highly recommend the pork dumplings in spicy peanut sauce (not spicy) the fried eggplant! Chefs specials, combo chow me in, chicken salad, pineapple rice- delish!! The final icing are the "sealed" fortune cookies- the best! Enjoy a decent glass of wine or beer with your meal//
We decided to get a dinner for two which came with soup, salad, rice and two entrees. You can get brown rice or chow mein with additional cost. I loved our meal. It was delicious. Definitely will come back.
Excellent Service and Great Food! The Potstickers were large, crispy on the outside, with a juicy and flavorful filling. The Honey Walnut Shrimp was excellent, a must-try!
This restaurant is amazing! The flavor is perfect; not too strong and not too bland. The Sunday Brunch is fantastic; with a choice of champagne or soda, soups, salads, and many delicious Taiwanese dishes. The service is excellent and the interior of the restaurant is gorgeous and very clean. 5/5 stars, I would highly recommend it!
The garlic eggplant over noodles is amazing, ad is the salt pepper tofu. Delicious food and flavors.

Excellent lunch special . Salad, soup rice and main dish. Lots of food. Great service 👏 definitely worth a visit.
Lunch menu is very good and generous proportions of good food. Lunch items could be easily shared amongst multiple people. By
This is my favorite Chinese food restaurant. I found by mistake. You should go between 11-2pm for the lunch special. My favorite is the broccoli prawns, chowmein, and wonton soup. They also give you a small chicken salad that's really good. The food is so good. I've taken my sister, friend, and family there. Love it
This remains one of the best Taiwanese restaurants around. They've been around for decades and offer great dishes. I was glad to see they were still in business after not having visited them in a few years.

Lovely Chinese restaurant vibe for sure. Service was nice, friendly and efficient. Food was good, but I was expecting something other than traditional "Chinese" food v. Taiwanese. I am glad I tried it as the restaurant constantly gets high reviews and recommendations. Solid 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ overall. (No photos this time).
Superb American style Chinese food. We really liked it.
Very nice people and great food, but guard your dishes! They can be too efficient with clearing them. I lost my tea cup and another person his rice bowl midway through dinner.
Having been going there for quite a few years, make that many years. The food is more than fresh. It fixed to order. Very hot an delicious. I enjoy the place. Even with the virus they still put out a good meal. An a good experience. It is both worth the time an the money. When was the last time you had really hot an fresh meal?????
The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and the service was very friendly. We only had the lunch special and while the portion was decent (with soup, salad, and lots of rice), the food is your basic westernized Chinese food. Namely, all the dark sauced dishes tastes and same and all the light sauced dishes tastes the same. We ordered two types of beef (dark sauced), one chicken, and one vegetable. Not bad for lunch special, but not quite befitting of the name of the restaurant. Now, other proper dishes on the menu might offer a more authentic Taiwanese flavor. However, the fact that we were there there during the lunch rush (restaurant was fairly busy) yet no Asian guests walked through the door the whole time suggests that everything on the menu were westernized. We will try to go back during dinner time and ordering some other dishes. Will update the review when that happens.
Taiwan Restaurant offers a delightful blend of traditional Chinese ambiance with a menu that caters to the Chinese-American palate. The elegance of the decor transports you to a different realm, with its clean, tidy, and authentically Chinese interior. The menu is comprehensive, featuring classics like Kung-pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and Hot & Sour Soup among others. And yes, the fortune cookies at the end of the meal are a sweet nod to tradition. The food here is not just about satisfying hunger, it’s about experiencing a rich culinary tradition. Every visit here is a tasteful journey I look forward to. Highly recommend for those seeking a classic Chinese dining experience with a touch of American flavor!
Great chinese food in historic neighborhood center. Lunch specials include rice, soup, and salad. Reasonably priced. Since 1982.
Loved this place for years. Chicken salad with lunch special ( usually buy) was an complete disappointment. Wedged lettuce looking for chicken or some type of noodles. What happened? Lettuce and sweet dressing didnt do restaurant justice. Otherwise, delicious!
This is good American Chinese food. My wife loves their dumplings which seem to have improved over the years and I'm a big fan of fried rice. I tried a variety of their dishes and they have all satisfied my Hunger. Kind of pricey being in Willow Glen but at least you get what you pay for.
Very nice Chinese restaurant located in downtown Willow Glen. Fast and friendly service (This seems owner-operated.) Food is tasty and ample serving portions. Great selection of food. Prospective patrons should look at the menu prior to visiting as there are many different varieties of Chinese cuisine.
The honey walnut prawns, chow mien, and orange chicken are the best dishes. Everything else is average. The decor is pretty but the lighting is too dim. The employees are nice, but a little forgetful or didn’t write down our order.
Looked up Szechuan food in the area and we were pleasantly surprised to find this place. We have passed by this place numerous times 😅 Very good ambience inside and the place was super busy at 6 pm but the wait staff were pleasant and happy to take orders. All the dishes were well made and tasted great. The veggie potstickers, beans and the eggplant with garlic noodles were my personal favorites

Because of covid I hadn't been here in over 2 years. This used to be our go to restaurant after Edna Ray left Willow Glen. They remodeled and that was very nice. The food on the other hand wasn't half as good as it was pre covid. My friend had beef broccoli. The broccoli was limp. I had the sweet and sour pork. The dish was luke warm and it had more pineapple than pork and not enough sauce. The best thing was the eggplant noodles because it was hot. It was early and not crowded so there was no reason for luke warm food and overcooked broccoli.
Our family has been going to Taiwan Restaurant now for about 4 years. And up until recently, they have been hands down, since if the best Chinese food we've ever had. We wouldn't even go anywhere else. Apparently, as per one of the gals who works there, they have gotten a new chef, and unfortunately things have not been so great. We used to order Mongolian Beef, and it was the best in town. However lately, it has been extremely gristley and chewy- to the point where it is inedible. It used to be so melt-in-your-mouth tender. I dont know what happened!! But we can no longer order this dish and it was our favorite. Hopefully they will make the necessary adjustments and get back to the quality it once was. For this reason and the drop in quality we could only give 3 stars.
great food but takeout is questionable. The pineapple fried rice in the restaurant is amazing but order the $12 dish for take out and you'll be disappointed with the small to go box. Leaves you wonder what they were thinking. not only do you not get your half of a pineapple but the to go box is significantly less food than you would get if you ordered in.
Food was decent. Server mistakenly brought two dishes we didn't order and then took them back. No real plates or silverware. All disposable. Probably ok for take out. Wouldn't recommend eating on premises.
The food is good, the staff is a bit rude but they frequently ask you to pay in cash, apparently they don't like paying the fees that any business requires.
Food was very good. But we felt rushed - we reached at 8 00 pm on a Sunday and the waitress said that we should place the order immediately as the chef was going to leave by 8 30. At 9 00 pm, they started switching off the lights signaling that we should leave! To be fair, the restaurant is open till 8 30 PM, but one would expect that once you are let in for dinner, you would be allowed to enjoy the meals for 90 minutes.
We went there this noon, we waited for 5 minutes before somebody came out from the back to take us to a table. Then we waited for another 10 minutes before soemone came to take our order. Then we waited 15 minutes to get the food. ordered two items, one was wrong, shrimp became pork. The soup was too salty, the worse were two dishes. We told the waitress, she said why you didn't tell us you wanted light salt. We said that we go to other restaurents all the time, never need to tell them anything, but getting normal salt dishes. We won't go back there because of the poor service, bad food, and bad altitude.
The best I can describe their dishes is American Chinese food. During this particular visit, we ordered Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. What we got was Chinese broccoli stir-fried with garlic. It was still good, but we asked for the oyster sauce on the side because we really wanted the oyster sauce flavor.
Got the house special of garlic eggplant with noodles, sweet and sour pork, and popcorn chicken to go. Garlic eggplant with noodle is a bit too salty for my taste. Significantly more noodle than eggplant, not sure how this got on Mercury news. Popcorn chicken I expect to be good since I assume this is a Taiwanese restaurant. Big disappointment, popcorn chicken had no crunch, like it sat out for too long. Sweet and sour pork is alright. Had better. Overall, the food is alright, but the proportions is decent.
My dish, crispy beef, was supposed to be spicy, but it was neither crispy, nor spicy. Just mediocre. Service was okay. Seems like the other people in my party liked their dishes. May return to try a different dish to give them a second chance; we'll see.
Honestly not the best Asian food I've had. The lunch specials come with a soup and salad, both were mediocre. The wonton soup had a layer of oil floating on top, 2 pieces of wontons, and a flavorless broth. I'm not sure why they call the dumplings "dumplings" when they're really just slightly bigger wontons. The entrees weren't bad. The portion and flavors were pretty good, and they came out very quickly. Too bad the service wasn't great. We won't be back.

The staffs were very great. But... Feel like menu is tailored for non-asian taste buds. Food was very sweet. I ordered Peking Pork and it tasted like pork bathed in BBQ sauce. It was so sweet that I had to scrape off sauce from pork pieces. Otherwise it was like drinking honey. Same for the Sichuan Prawns. There was no Sichuan taste/smell. It was mostly layers and layers of very sweet sauce. The whole meal felt like just eating cake frosting sugar.
Clearly under new ownership. Food was awful, which is disappointing because this used to be a Willow Glenn institution. Visiting family, used to live here and eat at Taiwan regularly. Unfortunately will not be returning. Great service but the food was less than mediocre.
This was by far the most expensive Chinese food we have had in San Jose and it was not good! We ordered dumplings in peanut sauce, which was too garlicky and salty, and sesame chicken, the chicken was good as it was white meat but the sauce tasted like ketchup. The other item we got was white rice. The grand total for everything with tip was 50 dollars!!!?! It was not worth it and we will never order from here again.
I would not come again. Their service was good but slow. It took 20minutes total for me to get seated, and place my order/pay the bill (when there's only 5 other guests) I was originally going to eat there, but after going to the restroom I changed my mind and wanted to walk around. I went up to my host and asked her to check out. The eggplant garlic chef special noodle was too salty. I think they use a premade sauce and put too much. It was not edible to me. I had to take it home and add unseasoned veggies to make it okay. I don't think it was worth $20 at all. It was the only item I tried. The restaurant is cute and item portions are great for sharing. There's only one really big restroom so you have to wait for other guests to finish. Cleanliness was questionable. Host was really busy but had good service. Understaffed and she was the only one answering phone calls, putting in orders, cleaning the tables, handling door dash deliveries etc.
ADDENDUM: Decided to give it another try at the urging of some friends who wanted to eat there. I have to take away a star. The atmosphere is lovely and the service great, but once again the food disappoints. We ordered the family meal that comes with Chinese chicken salad. The dressing tasted like sugar sweet vinegar. None of the characteristic wasabi and other flavors in a good salad. It was horrible. And the wonton soup that came with it included just 2 wontons, nothing else, in a cup of broth that literally tasted like slightly colored water. I'm not exaggerating. Completely lacking in any flavor. We liked the garlic eggplant and the pea sprout special, but between our 2 or 3 tries we've given this place only because the reviews are so good, because that's all we've liked, we won't be back. Original review: So many great reviews for this place, but we were disappointed. Flavors were very weak and it tasted like the chef just added more salt to make up for the lack. Hopefully it was just a bad night. So many others love it, so we'll give it one more try.
I’ve been eating at Taiwan Chinese restaurant in Willow Glen for over 20 years. Since we are back in the Willow Glen area we decided to get take out as I can never say no to the honey walnut pawns. Our order consist of sweet-and-sour pork, pork fried rice, and honey walnut prawns with an individual serving of wonton soup. Sad to say I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food this time around. The pork fried rice was crunchy and the wonton soup was absolutely disgusting. The broth was a heavy beef broth and not the nice light broth they usually have. The sweet-and-sour pork, of course is as basic Chinese food as you can get, and that was OK. The honey walnut prawns were good, not great. I feel we could have had better quality at Panda Express not to mention a whole lot cheaper on the wallet. 😩
The salad we received with our lunch special was underwhelming. I ordered hot and sour soup and received wonton soup which was flavorless, and very oily. The twice-cooked pork and cod with garlic sauce was decent. The dumplings with peanut sauce was forgettable. Honestly they weren't even dumplings. Staff inside were very nice. Place was clean. Restaurant is located in a very nice neighborhood.
Today I dined at Taiwan Restaurant on Lincoln Ave in San Jose, CA, and unfortunately, it was not a pleasant experience. The tea cups were extremely dirty, and we had to clean them ourselves before using them. The plates and utensils were also grimy, which was very off-putting. When we ordered tea, no stirring utensils were provided. Although the serving sizes were plentiful, the quality of the food was subpar. We had some vegetables that were covered in the typical dirt you’d see when you first purchase produce which requires thorough washing. Overall, it was a disappointing visit, and I hope they improve their cleanliness and service standards.

We’ve been going to this Chinese restaurant for years. We ordered take-out tonight, Sweet&Sour Pork and Broccoli & Beef. Very disappointed, the pork was way too fatty and the beef lacked tenderness. At 19+ per entree I expect a much better experience. I think they may be resting on the laurel a little too much and getting lazy.. C’mon guys, you’re better than this!

You wrote a review for Taiwan Restaurant 2 days ago 1.0 star rating8/2/2021 This place used to be our favorite prior to Covid!! But today they were seriously short staffed which did not help with the horrible food they served!! The Noodles of Chickens Charmian were cold, thick and lacked ANY flavor! The 2nd dish of disrepair was Spicy Chicken Curry which was very bland ! Our final dish was Twice Cooked Pork which was the ONLY dish with some flavor! To make matters worse than the fact that the person at the Counter took our order WHILE standing at the counter and yelling at us!! I suspect she could not leave the counter 3 steps to come our table cause she also had to attend the Take-Out and phone orders! Final straw was the busboy who was clearing the table, dropped the spoon on my wife's WHITE linen pants!! The dishes were so bad that we did NOT bring back ANYTHING except Twice Cooked Pork. The entire experience was unpleasant and we will NOT be back.
The service is good but the food was not good at all. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour. Spicy beef and vegetables had leathery beef with little taste. I think the high ratings must be from those who never tasted good Chinese food. I don’t recommend this place at all!
My husband and I both got sick from eating lunch at this place. Food was gross overpriced Orange chicken had No batter was spicy and the sweet & sour pork had alot of fat no meat Gross wait times are terrible on weekends they can't keep up with clientele
First time visited with friends. Ordered a fried rice. Took one bite, and it was awful 😣
Okay, I never do this, but the food is so bad the general public must be warned. I chose this place partially based on the previous reviews, and I cannot explain the 4.4 stars. I can, however, provide detailed and relevant feedback on the quality of the meal. Let me 1st say the people there are very nice, they did a good job with serving the food. We ordered 2 chef specialties, one vegetable dish and soup. It is important they fire the chef as quickly as possible. In a place like the Bay Area with amazing Asian restaurants, and Taiwanese specifically, the taste and quality of what I received is hard to understand. The Salt and Pepper spare ribs were literally inedible. It is not easy to describe, but the closest I can imagine is a taste like the smell of dirty feet. All the meat in the 2 dishes with meat was almost impossible to chew, due both to quality of the meat and severe overcooking. The sauces, which I thought looked good on the menus, were extremely oversweet but with no chili, onion, garlic or other balancing flavor. Like plain Hoisin sauce. The eggplant dish had been way overcooked, so it was almost eggplant puree, with no eggplant or any other flavor other than that sweet sticky sauce. So we blew $60 on food that could not beat microwave dinner quality. It gives me no pleasure to do this to the owners, but I hope they take this as a wake up call to an abomination of a menu, and try to make some changes very fast. PS, my wife says the hot n sour soup was ok, like NY takeout quality or so.
If i was able to give 0 stars I would 100% From the moment we walked in, we were given menus that were sticky and dirty. The plate and fork that is sitting on the tables was dusty. My partner and I ordered the calamari but it was extremely chewy ( felt like i was chewing bubble gum ). The severs did not check up on us until it was time to give us the bill. Food was just drowned in sauce and tasted like if it was made days ago and reheated in the microwave. The broccoli beef was very chewy too and broccoli tasted old. We ordered fried rice as well and it took 20 minutes for us to receive it and it was cold. It was not a lot of people at the restaurant but our food took forever to arrive. At the end when we got our bill, I decided not to tip because food and service was really bad. When the host saw we didn’t tip she said “ you not going to tip?” and then said “no because service was bad” and i said “thank you” and walked away and she said “thank you for what “. I regret spending my money on this place.
Overall, a horrible restaurant and experience. When we got there, there were maybe 5-6 groups waiting. Apparently, all but 1 were waiting for their take away order. The owner/manager at the counter showed no desire to get us seated. We had to wait close to an hour to get a table. Unfortunately, the kids were already cranky so the hope of quick turn kept us waiting. Took another 35 mins after getting a table for the food to arrive, and it was all random - rice, followed by sides, followed by appetizer, followed by the main entree. And then server then argued that he brought the rice and side out so we don’t have to wait and can start eating! What??? Anyway, the ambience is really not good either. Tables and menus were all super sticky! Not going to this place ever again.
We were fooled by the high ratings of this restaurant. It must be under new ownership based on the recent reviews. We waited 50 minutes to get to a table, 20 minutes to get water. It didn’t matter what the food tased like at that point. Extremely disappointing experience. The staff kept saying that the kitchen is very very busy as an excuse for everything being delayed. Our entrees were served before the appetizer.
They should not call themself Taiwan Restaurant. This is not Taiwanese food at all!! We ordered 5~6 dishes. Those dishes using soy sauce all tasted the same, including twice-cooked pork, eggplant.... They are flavorless, all I could feel is the heavy soy sauce. I was expecting egg foo young to be soft and tender, but it was hard and didn't taste good. The only dish that was not bad was walnut shrimp. Please don't let the food here ruin your impression of Taiwanese food. Taiwanese food is so much better than this.
Should have known when we walked in and saw exactly zero Chinese people here. Second red flag was a dirty and sticky fork on our table. As for the food, mediocre at best. Everything had a gelatin-like and lukewarm consistency, as if the sauces and soups had been sitting. Server never checked in with us even once until it was time for the bill. A place that you try once and leave alone. And lastly, Taiwan is part of China 🇨🇳.
never been before, but just by looking at photos as a Taiwanese person this place is definitely NOT authentically Taiwanese. Taiwan does not have pineapple fried rice (this is from thailand), fried banana with ice cream, or Mongolian beef (this is from Mongolia). You will NEVER see authentic Taiwanese restaurants serve COLD desserts! Taiwanese don't even drink ice water as we believe its bad for our bodies! The red bean steamed dumplings are definitely not traditional, this seems more like a off brand din tai fung chocolate xiaolongbao type thing. my friends had an awful time here, they were served calamari in the shape of a square (photo included below)!! this is infuriating to me seeing a place marketing themselves as "authentically Taiwanese" but is really not. their website states "For more than two decades, within the Taiwan Restaurant of Willow Glen, comes a nonstop stream of Szechwan, Cantonese and Chinese specialties, served in two bustling dining rooms." Szechwan, Cantonese, and Chinese specialties?? Szechwan is in China! This is a Chinese restaurant!! Not Taiwanese! I looked through the menu and saw ZERO dishes that are authentic to Taiwan, such as beef noodle soup, green onion pancake, chopped adobo pork over rice, and so on. If the menu says "Taiwanese ___" the dish is most definitely not Taiwanese but called that to have a Taiwanese aspect in this resturant. this place seems very americanized and catered towards non-asians, really a hit or miss on if you like the food here or not. try at your own demise, as i am warning you this place is not authentic Taiwanese food, and frankly, disrespects the Taiwanese culture.
Pls be aware of this restaurant, the owner Wayne is extremely unprofessional and harassing. Our order was messed up, too much curry powder and spicy. We called about it and owner Wayne started cussing F word to me . Wow! Such a bad customer service! There are other good restaurants like Mandarin gourmet. Pf changs, if something happens to order they are very professional about it and correct it NOT ARGUE AND CUSS AT CUSTOMERS.

From the moment we walked in, the service was slow and staff seemed uninterested. We ordered hot tea that never came, plus spicy chicken, honey walnut prawns, steamed vegetables, and chicken fried rice—all completely bland with no flavor. The worst part: when we poured our Sprites into glasses of ice, we found black bugs floating in both. Totally disgusted we stop eating and ask for the bill we paid and tried to leave. But server started arguing about the tip instead of apologizing and talking about the issue. Horrible food, poor customer service, and zero cleanliness. I’d never recommend this restaurant to anyone.
