Service was extremely fast and excellent! Served chips and salsa included with meal and the chilaquiles were fantastic! Highly recommend this authentic Mexican restaurant. Having a family owned Mexican so close to downtown is amazing. Will come back again.

Delicious and consistent Mexican food. Both this location and in Oceano the food always hits that magic spot the leaves you full and happy. My favorites here are the tacos (on tuesdays) and recently the Huevos Rancheros. Also enjoy the nachos and taco salad.

Best Michelada’s!! Love their tacos especially the carnitas and pastor. I get the shrimp and fish tacos and they’re excellent also. If I’m looking for something different the Chile Relleno is awesome too. The only downside I can think of at all is the guacamole (although super fresh) has a ton of raw onions in it. I’m not a fan of too many raw onions. When we’re bringing food to the crew working on our house we always get tacos from Efrens!! The guys love it!! Update!!!!! You can ask for NO or few onions!!! Best guacamole ever!!!! 🥑 🥑

Nice and very convenient location for us. Good selection pleasant service. We split a Mexican omelet for a very satisfying brunch.

Had a breakfast burrito with chorizo. It was massive and quite tasty. It took come time to get the food for our whole party. Their system is not too effective. They give out numbers but don't give the food according to that number. Had the hibiscus drink, it was very sweet but tasted nice.

I have been eating here since this location opened. Before that, I frequented Efren's in Oceano. During this time I have had two experiences that impact whether or not I return. I am rather service industry tolerant, however bad service is just bad service. That being said, this is still the best Mexican food around, period. I have eaten my way through the menu and have not encountered a dish I did not like. The diverse flavors across the many styles of their dishes offered are savory down to the last bite. The price point is a little bit above average which becomes a non issue on your first until your last bite. They can also accommodate large (office/business sized) takeout orders in a timely manner. Yes, I love their food but their service remains inconsistent and may cost them my business in the long run.

My bean and cheese burrito had cold unmelted cheese, I didn't like the sauce on the octopus cup, salsa was kinda boring, other meats and things we got were good.

Great Mexican food. Enjoy having a sweet place like this in my neighborhood. Moved from arroyo grande so I know their food. Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is they we're foolish to open too soon. They need a strong restaurant manager ASAP. It seemed chaotic with the service staff. Menu screens down. Soda fountain down. TVs running soaps!? Took almost 30 min to get my 4 soft tacos. If this was their first store I would completely understand. Bit it's not. I wouldn't recommend eating in for some time

This place is pretty good. Huge menu, good food, great service. The place was clean and the staff was nice. I had the nachos which were fantastic and very filling. We stayed for a while while we were chatting and they didn't bug us even though we realized afterwards we were there past closing time. Definitely go the food is super good.

The crew was in a hot hurry to close, arrived right at 7:00pm close at 8:00, they closed the restroom to customers. After a few minutes of dinning , the smell of cleaning solutions disrupted my dining pleasure. Bummer.

Went on taco Tuesday and each hard taco had a few pieces of meat. Basically an empty hard shell. Not sure if it's like this all the time or just got unlucky. Overall the flavor, cleanliness and quality of this place is really good. Edit: Almost a year later we found ourselves back at Efrens and it was worse than before. Our food came out less than 3 minutes after ordering. We watched them pull our burrito out of the microwave. It unfortunately was not heated all the way through even with the microwave. We also got enchiladas which were $16.50 though the pastor meat tasted old and almost like chorizo. Quality & customer service going downhill.

My food was fine and delicious but the burrito Had no sour cream, didn't have the guacamole that I paid for, the guy at the register charged me for extra meat which I did not request and it didn't appear to have any extra added anyway as well as the guy seeming displeased with the modifications that were made which were more deductions than additions. All around I'll keep going to my regular go to ( which was closed that day) if I'm going to be spending that type of money.

Taste is good as usual, however I believe this location is inferior to Oceano. Their prices are better and portions are higher. My burrito was also completed unfolded and fell apart the second I opened it up.

Rustic food in a sterile setting. Nice staff but atmosphere and cuisine could be ratcheted up a notch.

At first place looks promising! Clean and neat. Great, but wait till later. Takes them long time to get your order. They write an order on a paper, yell it to the cooks, then put everything in the system. Ordered horchata - it is super sweet. Way sweeter than I'd want it. And also it takes like it's made out of powdery substitute that wasn't fully dissolved. Guacamole is probably made out of something else... First off why do you put it in blender?!? It is baby food, not a real guac... Cheese quesadilla was cold and cheese didn't melt (not to mention it wasn't covered in cheese like lots of places do) I tried, but won't be returning.

Came in on a Sunday night around 6:30, I guess the staff thought that was a great time to do a deep cleaning behind all the booths. We planned on dining in but the smell of cleaning solution was so bad we decided to do take out. After driving home across town, we were super disappointed. My 5 chicken enchiladas got subbed for a 3 piece with rice and beans, and came with more lettuce than my girlfriend's taco salad. Both dishes were disappointing and not delicious. Honestly I've never had worse enchiladas. The Oceano location is good, but this one needs help.

I want to share my experience on 10/06/24 with my meal, customer service is good nice people nice place. I had a rock on my meal beans and broke a tooth in half, lost the tooth and a big expense on my part, is an unfortunate situation for some customers that have such experiences and it happened to me, the combo enchilada had the rock. Currently getting the tooth replace and just moving forward, I'm not discouraging anyone to go eat there but the business owner to have staff clean food with more caution, is not unusual for this to happen but no one like to go through that experience of loosing a tooth while eating. The food was ok until I stop eating and left.

As a Mexican, do not eat here. SLO just doesn’t have 1 good solid authentic place. If you value your time , do not come here. If you’re convinced taco bell is authentic this is absolutely the place for you .

I was really disappointed in my recent experience - I had eaten their food in the past at a catered event and was pleased. $45 to feed two adults and two young children seems expensive to me (especially for simple Mexican food). In addition, I asked for no onions on "Efren's Plate" and it was heaped with onions. The " grilled steak" I received was chewy and tough. Staff seemed preoccupied and bordered on rude. No one checked in with us during our entire visit. They gave us a very small paper container for chips, which we had to refill multiple times. Had to send the tacos back as the hot sauce was layered on to the point where my children couldn't eat it. Loud music and not a very warm environment - presents a bit like a cafeteria. Not a good value for me and my family :-(

🤮 worst food I’ve ever eaten. Ordered the pozole and the gristle was so chewy, it was inedible. I tossed a piece to my dog and he spit it out. Done waste your money! Service was even worse. I was one of three customers at 5pm, and it took the rude clerk several minutes to take my order. I watched her fill the drink cups before acknowledging me. Never said can I help you or hello, just gave me an irritated look, like I was a bother. The camp cook took several minutes to pour the premade gristle into a bowl. Go to Taco King!,

Yeah this place was so bad I wanna leave a review so they change for the better. I got the 4 street taco combo with rice and beans and I must say, it was the worst tacos I've ever had, don't know how to describe how disgusting it was but it was. Some how they made the meat and taco shells taste awful. Then their salsa bar was terrible and didn't have a any tasty ones. My girlfriend gets the enchilada plate and they said the red sauce comes on the side, when she gets her plate, there's no red sauce, she has to stand in line for the cooks to heat up some red sauce in the microwave, to hand it to her scolding hot as she grabs it and burns her hands. Then she tries to eat hers and doesn't finish it because its so gross and disgusting and she claims that was her worst ever enchiladas she's ever had in her life. And she felt sick all night and couldn't sleep. Weird, I know. We literally joked all night how bad that was and we eat Mexican everywhere. To top it off, their prices are way too high, for that price, we'll stick to Taco King! To their credit it was busy, so people eat it. But we won't be back. Hope this helps!
