We visited Moxi for my wife's 70th birthday celebration and we had a could not have been happier. The food was excellent: we had the crab aguachile starter; my wife had the red snapper and I had the lamb poppardelle. Both were excellent. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

One of the best meals we’ve ever had in SMA and we’ve been living here for many years. The crab appetizer, sea bass, beef filet w/ potatoes and the almond coulant were all beautifully executed and really delicious. The service was wonderful and we really appreciate the complimentary pastry bites. We are delighted to have this restaurant in our hood. The only small mishap was that they mistakingly brought out the appetizer and one entreé at the same time. Perhaps it was my poor spanish.

The best restaurant in San Miguel de Allende! I get why this place has one michelin star. The food was amazing as were the ambiance and the service. They took great care of us while we celebrated our anniversary. Definitely get a Casa Dragones margarita and some entrees. Thank you to Ivonne, Fernando, Frick, Alfonzo and Oscar for everything while there! Till next time!

Amazing food at an amazing price. This restaurant uses quality ingredients and the chefs are obviously very talented. The service was fast and effective. We paid £25 per head for starter main and drinks. I would return in a heartbeat

Fabulous date night venue. The service and food were outstanding. Everything was as promised. I highly recommend the asparagus appetizer! You honestly can’t go wrong here.

They had a ramen bar inside Matilda Hotel. It’s called Mui Ramen Bar. Very chill vibe, great music, and the ramen is actually good. Great to have another food option in San Miguel de Allende other than Mexican cuisine.

Quiet. Calm. Fresh. Great service. All products are so fresh and yummy. Not cheap but worth it

Great place for breakfast. Good coffee, the house made jam incredible and food was delicious. Good prices. Very friendly staff.

Excellent lunch.....light bites and so creatively presented. Pictured is roasted cauliflower. It came with romanesco sauce.

The best tamal I've ever had! The decor is fabulous and next time in San Miguel this is a must.

Came in mid-afternoon and they treated us like royalty. We had beverages and an appitizer each. The food is outstanding and the service superlative. We will be back soon for the chef's tasting!

Wonderful restaurant. Our best of many meals in SMA. We went for an afternoon comida during the week. It was incredibly relaxing and beautiful. The food was creative and delicious.

We have returned to Moxi several times because the food is delicious, the ambience is casual upscale, the Wait Staff are friendly and accommodating. Contrary to an earlier review of the Chef's Tasting menu causing illness, we have had it on at least 5 occasions with the wine pairing and thoroughly enjoyed the food with no ill affects. I would highly recommend Moxi for it's great food and great value. The cost is about $100 per person with drinks and wine.

We had a wonderful romantic experience here last night. The ambience was beautiful and the service attentive. I loved the soft lighting, candlelights and white tablecloths. I would highly recommend the roasted cauliflower and the duck confit. We well be back for both!

Excellent service, fast, attentive and informative. The degustation menu was excellent paired with a thoughtful selection of mostly mexican wines and an initial mezcal and grapefruit cocktail rimmed with worm salt and chili powder accompanying the spicy herbs tostada as the first entry. We'll deserved reputation

Dining at Moxi at Hotel Matilda in San Miguel de Allende was an absolute delight. The food was simply excellent—every single ingredient came through so clearly, like a beautifully composed (and presented) symphony on a plate. The service was also top-notch, adding to the entire experience. We (5 friends) loved it so much that we dined there right when we arrived and again the night before we left. It was just that good. A huge thank you to everyone at Moxi for creating such a wonderful dining experience!

We had a great time at Moxi! 3 of us went in after having apps at Rosewood rooftop, we split the burger and a few other things, and everything was spectacular. Not to mention, the service and the welcome we received was so great. The vibe inside was beautiful and warm, it was a super chilly and windy evening and we sat by the fire and enjoyed a glass of wine and delicious food. I would definitely recommend it!

We had a lovely and delicious dinner. The tasting menu really showed off the talent of the chef and the kitchen staff. We found the wine list to be pretty good.

The food is so amazing here.. they also keep surprising you with their special bread and desserts during your meal. The chocolate margarita is a must try. I never liked pumpkin cream at restaurants but it’s a must try here. Love it totally. 5 star service

So so so good. I recommend ordering to share. We had the smoked roasted half chicken, blackened fish, crab tostadas and white asparagus. Flavors were the best I’ve had at a fine dining restaurant in the US or otherwise. Attentive staff, but not overly so. Lovely atmosphere. Don’t skip the blackened catch if you are considering it. Yum!

Had the breakfast and it was delicious. Definitely not cheap for Mexican standards, but the food, service and setting were great. They give you complementary bread with your meal. It’s worth the splurge if you are looking for a good breakfast.

Over the top restaurant with fancy interior design inside of Matilda Hotel. The place used to be run by Enrique Olvera but not anymore. Obviously isn't cheap but the food overall was very good, especially the barbacoa raviolis. I think is a matter of value/price. In a place like this with this prices, excellence should be the norm. My wife is pescatarian and she asked if the octopus dish had some meat in it. The server said no but the dish came with bacon. We had dessert for free because of that. So, let's say it's a solid four star place

S

Great value for money, the tasting menu was delicious and only £45pp. You can tell this comes from Enrique Olvera with the amazing Mole Rojo on our 3rd course! The white wine list could be longer though... some more dry unoaked please!

D
Damien Golden

Relaxing atmosphere, good cocktails, beautifully decorated and Gustavo is an amazing host.

The hotel and restaurant are absolutely stunning. The design is impeccable and the private dining room was exquisite. While the food was good, unfortunately it did not quite live up to the setting. I think with a few small tweaks the food could be amazing.

Had dinner here on a Tuesday while visiting in town. Oddly, there was no one in the restaurant, or seemingly the hotel. Food was good, but when compared to other similar price points around town didn’t stand out. Staff was very attentive to dietary restrictions.

L
Laurie McCurlie

Lovely setting, great food. We had the tomato burrata salad, which was amazing….and the wood fire roasted chicken, also great. Service was super friendly but a tad inexperienced. Had to ask for napkins for example.

Mediocre experience. Food was okay. Not much variety in the menu. They charged for extra cup of coffee. We also wanted a cup of milk for the baby and they charged for that too. Croissant was not good. Overall disappointing experience.

I expected much more from this restaurant as it belongs to Chef Enrique Olvera. Food was visually stunning, but always lacked something to make it really special and be placed among the best of the best. Great ambience, so-so food. There aee much better places to eat in SMA. 3/5.

Decent food with really good French toast but service wasn't good. Getting coffee refills etc took forever.

Very disappointed in the place. Very limited vegetarian options. I think food was just ok. We got the cauliflower dish as starter which was very disappointing as it was just roasted with no flavor. The service was just so so... My partner ordered fish and thought it was well cooked. Anyway If you are vegetarian I would definitely not go here to get couple of mediocre appetizers at high prices.

We took another couple out to dinner with us to celebrate our 20th anniversary and all four of us were disappointed in the service. The food and drinks were very good and the restaurant & bar are very attractive. Arriving early, we were told we could have a drink in the bar upstairs and waited about 10 minutes before going back downstairs to advise there was no bartender up there. Then they tried to seat us between two tables full of smokers on the patio. We ordered dinner and were never asked if we wanted to start with a soup or salad, we never had any bread at the table, our drink orders were delayed twice, and one of the entrees we ordered wasn't available. We were asked twice if we were celebrating anything special and both times we said our 20th anniversary - but they did nothing for it - why ask? We told the waiter we weren't very happy with the service, so he did comp dessert, which was nice. However, for the money, we would not go back.

We have a house very close to Matilda, so have really wanted Moxi to be one of our favorite, go-to dinner places. This week was our 4th visit, but I think our last. We have a contact within the hotel’s management and made our last dinner reservation directly through them. I expected a warm greeting, but arrived and stood around for an uncomfortably long period waiting for someone to even greet us. We were eventually invited to choose any table, which was fine, but then sat alone until a waiter finally arrived - asking us what we would like to order. I suggested that setting the table and giving us menu’s before asking for orders would have been a better start to the experience. The night was frankly going badly until the efficient Heidi arrived to supplement the badly understaffed serving team and took charge of our table. The venue is really pretty and the food is good, but this is an expensive restaurant, so needs to offer a much better product to represent fair value. We’d been to “The Restaurant” a couple of days before and went to El Golpe de Vista the night after, so the comparisons were very stark - The Restaurant and EGdeV are also quite expensive, but their food and service is first class by international standards. I’m afraid Moxi is not even in the top tier of SMA restaurants.

Ate dinner and breakfast here. Breakfast was great, good food, great service. But the reason I gave it 3 stars was the dinner. Dishes not up to what you would expect from a Michelin starred chef and service that was chaotic at best.

M
Morgan Schenk

Mediocre experience. We both had the burger. Fries were cold and burgers were really salty. Once we finished our plates wernt cleared for 20 min. The chocolate cake was fantastic.

C
Chad Costley

Pretty disappointing for a Michelin star restaurant. Waiter seemed confused (we speak enough Spanish that he shouldn’t gave been). Tomatoes in starter salad weren’t ripe (it’s peak tomatoe season), margaritas had so much salt I was wiping it away, no help with wine suggestion, one of our entrees was overcooked. It was fine, but we were in San Miguel for a week and ate in several restaurants better than this one.

S
S. Reid

I was very excited to try this restaurant after I heard that they had ramen on the menu. However, the ramen was far too salty. Also, our meal took over and hour to arrive. I think the waiters forgot that we were sitting upstairs.

S
Sofia Gracia

Terrible service, overpriced and overhyped. The food is simply OK. You can find tastier dishes anywhere in SMA. Big disappointment.

A
Ari Rose

Came for late breakfast into an empty restaurant. Atmosphere feels OK but nothing special compared to rest of SMA. We ordered the sweet tamale and the salmon latke (and some food off the pet menu for our dog :). This puppy, who will eat anything, wasn’t very enthusiastic about the food, which was a sign. The tamale came after 30 minutes of no attention with good presentation but failed in its combination of flavors in my opinion. The salmon latke was not there. The waiter said it was prepared in the back, but 20 minutes later it was still not there. I’m not ok with waiters lying to us, so we got the check after an hour of waiting around and left. The restaurant is no longer owned by the owner of Pujol. It has serious quality and service issues. Avoid until they figure it out.

S
Sofia Sacre

The staff was very inattentive and uninterested. We went for a birthday dinner thinking the food would be great but, given the delicious food we've had in Mexico this was passable at best, especially for somewhere that is meant to be a nice restaurant. The decor is nice, but that's about it

E
Ethel Rubinstein

Probably great for dinner. We called the night before and they said they served lunch so we made a reservation. It took 20 minutes to order anything and 45 minutes to get our first course. At that point we cancelled the main course. Good food, horrible service but in fairness, I don’t think it’s really open for lunch and they should have said that.

B
Benjamin Weidman

We did not do the tasting menu but ordered a la carte. Terribly unimpressive for the price and the "idea" of the place. We were hoping for something interesting and different than what we have eaten in our time in SMA. The mole was tasty but for 400peso it tasted the same as the mole I ate the day before for 50 peso. For half the price, get the burrata (locally made) salad at Cumpanio. The food and the vibe felt like what I like to avoid when travelling. Eating more of an idea than something remarkable, no guts to it. I really suggest trying out another restaurant. The reviews are all over the place on this restaurant. Feel like I should have known better. On a higher note, wait staff was so lovely and accommodating, especially since we had an infant!

L
Lawrence McGuire

Google rates this with $$$$ for cost, it is not that expensive. Overall Moxi doesn't meet the aspirations of a hotel seeking to be a four or five star experience. The menu is limited with burgers intermixed with a limited list of entrees. There are no salads, soups or other tapas pre entree. The service was indifferent and a disappointment versus the many other fine restaurants in San Miguel de Allende.

G
German Osio

Ok so regarding the food: Bread - excellent Smash burger - disgusting, meat is extremely dry and hard, not hard due to it being over cooked, just terrible quality beef. Ordered 4 burgers and everyone at the table agreed that they where pretty bad and left more then 50% of the burger. Tomato salad - excellent! This was by far the best dish. Great presentation! Crab agua chile - crab was dry and stale tasting. The “agua chile” was bland. Lacked citrus and chile. Presentation was great. Sea bass - this dish was good. Not excellent but not bad. Service Service was very mediocre! Slow and had to ask for everything. No attention to detail and pretty sluggish in general.

I was very disappointed by the experience at Moxi. The location is very pretty and well curated. However, the food was terrible. I ordered the burger, which looked like it has never seen a grill. It rather looked like it was heated up in a microwave and tasted awful. My friend ordered the fried chicken steak, which also tasted very bad, it was on the same level as KFC, which is not acceptable for this kind of a restaurant.

P
P L

We have just left this restaurant and it was a disappointment. Truthfully, the food was awful, surprisingly awful! It could have been a bad night but nothing that was ordered was at all enjoyable. I left half my catch of the day and my wife ate only 1 bite of her main course. The service was good, thoughtful, responsive, friendly, and I have no complaints there. Truthfully, the food was so bad I don't know when I have ever had a worse meal served on a white table cloth. To be avoided.

If I could give a 0 star I would. First of all, I called and made a reservation and at time of arrival they didn’t have me on. Terrace has a limited menu which was disappointing because I wanted to treat my whole family for a nice dinner ( party of 9). Expensive and disappointing food and service. Food took forever because as the servicer explained ( is too difficult to bring things up (even tho I’m paying for their service no matter what). Anyway I had better food and service at other local inexpensive delicious magnificent food. Tacos, mariscos, alitas and chelas, hermanos Rodríguez barbacoa, dominós pizzas, best margaritas are right in front of Electra in down town (cannot remember the name), just to name a few. Also, rent a property like Rincón del Cielo if you want to have an awesome time because I doubt you will at that place. This review is all about other amazing places that SMA has to offer but don’t waste your time here. Sara Ortiz!!!

I
Ivette Ayala

They tried to give us mezcal that had water on it and then said they got confused from an event they had the night before. First bottle of wine was warm. We got a second bottle of wine and they didn’t change the glasses. There was leftover pieces of food on our table before we sat down. It’s a shame that service in this place is so bad. So overrated and not worth it.

E
Elena Walker

Worst meal of any kind I’ve had in over a year. They say the chef is the best in Mexico, the internet shows good reviews. It’s a scam. Hope you don’t fall into the trap and waste your time/money here. The space is beautiful. “Duck confit” was shredded dry left-over duck tossed over mashed potatoes, it’s bad even if you don’t consider how expensive it is. We also had the crab appetizer, shrimp appetizer (freezer-burned shrimp), and pork belly - ALL BAD. Amazed that one can even make pork belly dry. Mole sauce - much better tasting at el Correo, go there instead. Or enjoy The Restaurant, Polp, La Parada, street foods instead.

C
Claudia BOHORQUEZ

Very disappointed in my experience here last July 2018. I've had amazing meals at Enrique Olvera's other restaurants in Mexico City and Manhattan, but this one was awful. We were 6 people for dinner and nobody enjoyed their meal. Sooooo sad. This was the dinner I was looking forward to on that trip. The food was bland, not the right temperature, and I'm speechless.
