We celebrated Valentine’s Day at Nonno’s Restaurant, and it was a fantastic experience. Even though it was extremely busy, the staff handled everything with professionalism and warmth. We never felt rushed, and the service remained attentive all night. While a few diners around us seemed a bit impatient because of the holiday crowd, the team stayed calm, courteous, and focused, which really stood out. The owner did a great job managing the room and keeping everything running smoothly, especially on such a hectic night. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The atmosphere was lively and romantic. For one of the busiest nights of the year, they truly did an impressive job. We’ll definitely be back!
Even though Nonno’s was incredibly busy for Valentine’s Day, they still managed to give our party of six an amazing evening. The service never felt rushed, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming despite the crowd. The food was outstanding, hands down the best red sauce, perfectly cooked steak, phenomenal chicken parm, and delicious appetizers across the board. Every dish hit. The bartender makes exceptional drinks, and to top it all off, the owner is truly the best, present, friendly, and clearly cares about the guest experience. A perfect Valentine’s dinner and a reminder of why we keep coming back. Highly recommend.
Hosted a party here. The guests cannot stop talking about the food! Absolutely everything was delicious! Nonno was super attentive and accommodating! Restaurant is wheelchair accessible. Highly highly recommend this restaurant 👌
Had dinner there the first time. I'd meaning too, but always never got around to it. We had the calamari, the pasta faggioli, and I think the pork chops all were fantastic. Our service was on point. This is one of the best Italian restaurants in the area and I'm from northern New Jersey, New York, which has its fair share of very good Italian restaurants. Since i now have a home in the area. I'm coming back here a lot.
For great Italian food and a good time. Enjoyed everything i ordered. Lots of food on your plate and a nice atmosphere for dinning. Can't go wrong 👌
My wife and I have dined in most of the Italian restaurants in Sussex County, and Nonno's is, by far, the very best. The food is authentic, cooked-to-order, and fresh and delicious, the service is great, and the portions are large. Frank, the owner, is very accommodating, flexible with the menu, and makes sure that his patrons are satisfied with their dining experience.
First time and we will be back! Food was amazing. Service was excellent. We had salmon and chicken and both were cooked to perfection. Generous portions and complimentary pasta which was amazing!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Review of No No No's (Layton, NJ) (That's "No" three times—because once isn't enough to capture how serious this food is) I don’t even know how to describe what happened at No No No’s in Layton other than to say: it was one of the best Italian meals of my life. This place doesn’t serve food. It serves memories. Let’s start with the calamari—light, crispy, tender, and served with a marinara topped with chili pepper that had no business being that good. It wasn’t just spicy—it had this slow, blooming warmth that hit your taste buds and made you wonder why every Italian place in America doesn’t do this. It was like the sauce got upgraded to main character status. Then my buddy Jared ordered something called spadine (we think)—eggplant wrapped with cheese, hot and melty in the middle, crisp on the edges. Whatever it was, it tasted like the kind of dish that comes with a family story. We still don’t know how to spell it, but our taste buds know exactly what it means. The bread? Legend. The server told us they drive out of town to get it—and Jared, in a moment of trying to blend in, nodded like he knew the place. But even if he didn’t, he was right to agree. This bread had soul. Crusty outside, soft and warm inside—like a good nap on a Sunday. Now I got the chicken francese, which was perfectly pan-fried and swimming in this lemon-butter sauce that could absolutely end wars. The gnocchi? Light, fluffy, rich. Like they were kneaded by someone who believes pasta is a language of love. But here’s the twist: Jared never actually ordered. He told the chef, “Surprise me.” Let me repeat that. This man put his taste buds in the hands of a stranger. And the chef—without blinking—said, “I got you.” Now we don’t know what he’s getting. Pork chop? Chicken? A seafood risotto that hasn’t graced a menu in 20 years? Maybe something the chef’s grandmother whispered to him in a dream. That’s the kind of vibe we’re dealing with here. The mystery is part of the magic. Every time the door from the kitchen swings open, we’re all holding our breath. Whatever comes out—it’s not just going to be food. It’s going to be a reveal. A culinary plot twist. And I’m honestly a little jealous. In conclusion: No No No’s isn’t just a restaurant. It’s an experience. A faith-based operation. Somewhere, an Italian grandmother is weeping into her handmade tablecloth because she knows she’ll never taste the miracle that’s happening in Layton, New Jersey. Come hungry. Leave changed. And maybe, just maybe… let the chef decide your fate.
What a hidden gem of amazing Italian food! We shared the stuffed artichoke, crab stuffed mushrooms, spiedini and salads. Absolutely delicious! Our entrees included lobster ravioli, linguine with clams, osso buco and a chicken special stuffed with spinach and shrimp. Everything was delicious and the service was great! The owner really makes sure you are enjoying your meal! Highly recommend!
Ive drove past this restaurant thousands of times, so has my family. We just thought it was a random pizza joint with no customers. We thought it was closed or had a weird schedule. We were wrong. Parking is in the back so is the entrance. We didnt know. I tried the lobster ravioli, 10/10. Some of the best pasta we have ever had. Service was excellent. Authentic italian cuisine. Go!
What else can I say, Amazing! It's been a really long time since I've truly had a great Italian meal. I'm originally from the Passaic/Bergen county area, and there were outstanding Italian restaurants minutes away in any town. Unfortunately, that's not the case in this area. Nonno's really nails it! They have spiedini alla romana, I haven't seen this on a menu in over 20 years. If you know, you know, if not, a must try. I can go on about the different dishes forever. There was nothing that I tried that was bad. A truly OMG moment. Atmosphere, cleanliness, service, and meals all A+++. A definite must try.
I’ve heard of this place in passing and I drive past it almost every day and tonight my partner and I decided to stop by and grab something to eat. The food totally exceeded my expectations. It’s like I’ve never eaten Italian food before. The house salad was like a meal carefully seasoned and there was cucumbers, onions and tomatoes spread out throughout the pile of greens, not just laying on the time. The bread was also delicious and our meals were so satisfying. Highly recommend the pasta fagioli and chicken piccata! Will definitely be back.
This place was a hidden gem 💎 we found by searching short ribs. It's an amazing place full of attention and very respectful staff. I'm pretty sure the owner was our waiter, and he spoke with such confidence about each dish he suggested. I'm can't decide what I liked most, the appetizers (stuffed mushrooms & stuffed artichoke), main course (short ribs & cavetilli and broccoli) or delicious desert (1/2 tres leches 1/2 tiramisu). Everything was delicious, and the presentations of the dishes were beautiful. This is a must try in my book, and we will certainly be back. 👍
I was so impressed with this new and upcoming restaurant that I have decided it will be my initial featured restaurant on my new blog (website in progress) Dining With Dar! diningwithdar.com Every aspect of this place is screaming SHARE ME WITH THE WORLD! Our experience started when I though my husband would be late, so I called to ask if I could push my reservation back 15 minutes. I was assured by "Sonny" that it was not a problem and he ensured I would have a table upon my arrival. We began with Italian imported water, a nice red from the wine list and appetizers of fried calamari and the nightly special crab stuffed mushrooms. These are /wo favorites of our and we try them at most every restaurant we visit but rarely find one, let alone both, exquisite! Such was the case here at Nonno's though. We couldn't have been more pleased. Warm semolina bread was brought to our table which we enjoyed throughout our meal. I am an honest person and tough to please so I feel compelled to insert my only complaint here. Butter accompanied the bread to our table and we would have much rather preferred a seasoned dipping oil for our bread. There, now that I have gotten that off my chest, let me continue with the praise! The staff checked on us regularly but were no overbearing or hovering. Sonny was kind enough to offer us the specials on the menu twice-once when we ordered our appetizers and again after we had devoured these delectable morsels of the gods! (We were so surprised by the perfection of our appetizers, we forgot the specials!) I chose the shrimp special that consisted of shrimp, sundried tomatoes, asparagus, garlic and cream sauce that can only be compared to the nectar of the heavens. All of this was served over perfectly cooked angel hair pasta. This was the absolute best pasta dish I had even eaten in my life. I couldn't help but pray that this dish could be added to the regular menu as I may have to order it every single time I dine here. My husband ordered Chicken Sorrentino. Chicken breasts sautéed with shallots and wine, then demi-glazed and topped with eggplant, fresh tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. It was accompanied by fresh vegetables. I had to try a bite as it smelled so good. This dish is full of flavor. The sauce is what every chicken should be bathed in. The fresh vegetables on the plated gave the dish the perfect amount "OMG, I'm so glad I am being served with th>s Chicken Sorrentino!) (I knew what those veggies were thinking! Lol) Oh but wait! I'm not done! Tirimisu is by far my absolute favorite dessert and I have to try it whenever I can find it on any menu. Again, I am not overly exaggerating when I tell you this was by far, hands down, the BEST tirimisu that ever blessed my tongue. It was light and full of flavor. My husband and I shared this dessert but next time, he will have to get his own! Hot fresh cappuccinos made the perfect pairing with our dessert to end our meal. The entire staff, especially Sonny and Nonno, made us feel like we were a part of their family dining with them. We were invited back and will definitely take them up on the offer. Nonno's has entered our rotation of divine eateries! We are already planning our trip back! Do NOT let any time pass you by before calling to book your reservations! Once the word gets out about this place, it'll be hard to get a reservation!
Calamari appi was excellent. The sauce was real crushed tomatoes to enhance the perfect calamari. However, we ordered the seafood pasta special which was very disappointing. When tasting the pasta special with scallops and shrimp, it would have been worth the $38 price if they at least salted the pasta water. I ended up using the whole bowl of parm cheese to spruce up both our meals. We hadn't been there in a while and was hoping for a great meal. No salad came with it. Lettuce is cheap and it would have been nice to include it. With a bottle of their cheapest wine at 55, our bill was 200 with tip.
We ordered dinners to go tonight and my order was Mediterranean bass with sun dried tomatoes, shitaki mushrooms , artichokes over rice and vegetables. What I got was a small piece of bass with risotto with zero sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms or artichoke just a fish and risotto. The fish tasted really good but it wasn’t what I ordered and I only chose this because of the stuff that was missing in my order. This was our first time ordering and probably last.
No-no! Inattentive, poor service. Food was average definitely not worth what they charge for it. Average food with high-end prices for the area. The two chicken dishes we ordeed were both overcooked see photo of dried chicken. Portions were good, of course when the entrees are overcooked it doesn't matter much. Wouldn't come back.
My husband and I decided to go to Nannos for Valentine’s Day. We called at 5:30 pm to see if it was too late to make a reservation. We were told that they don’t take reservations, but if we come around 7pm, they would definitely be able to seat us. We waited an hour and a half and headed over. When we got inside, it was packed. There was one family waiting ahead of us. We didn’t mind though. We understand that it’s a holiday and they are busy. After not even being greeted for 15 minutes, someone comes over to the line that is now forming out the door. We told him we needed a table for two. He then asked the people behind us. They said they had a reservation for 7:30 for a party of ten.. okay.. we were told they don’t take reservations, but fine. Miscommunications happen. Another then minutes go by while they are moving tables together. The gentleman returns and says to follow him. My husband and I follow to a large table where he proceeds to tell us to have a seat.. it was a table for ten. I told him we were the table for two. Those were the only open tables at the time. At that point, we knew we weren’t being seated and decided to leave. We ended up driving around for an hour after that looking for anywhere that had seats available. Luckily we found a restaurant an hour before they closed that was able to accommodate us. I understand that holidays are busy. I also understand that it was last minute due to my husband’s unpredictable work schedule, however, those are all the reasons we called first. To be told they don’t take reservations, end up wasting almost an hour of our time, being overlooked for fifteen minutes without so much as even a head nod, and then not to be seated at all, it’s probably best that we don’t return. Being busy is not any excuse. It’s still a holiday that people look forward to, and organization is key..
Came out for Valentine’s Day / birthday celebration with my Boyfriend, family, and friends for what was meant to obviously be a special night. My boyfriend had made a reservation weeks ago.. and even followed up the day of calling that morning to ensure we were still good to go. Once arriving it was clear the staff was a bit behind. WE greeted the host, and told him we had made a reservation. he was a bit dismissive, saying that we would need to wait because there were people ahead of us. No problem, but we ended up waiting half an hour past our reservation time. We were eventually seated in the back corner of the restaurant and seemingly forgotten about most the night. the waiter did not even take our drink order until 40 minutes later… and we had to keep reminding him of our drinks as he only brought sangria and water, and 3 times forgot a soda and a beer. Ultimately finding out they didn’t even have the beer my father in law had ordered. Our appetizers took another 30 minutes to place an order on. And there were more mistakes here. No calamari was brought out despite 2 orders being put in. Extra muscles that were NOT ordered came out. And we had been asking for bread.. a commonality generally given upon being seated. We had reminded/ asked our waiter several time. It wasn’t until an hour and half in that we were told the kitchen was out of bread. Which was fine had we not seen every table around us get refilled baskets. The owner offered to substitute the bread for an appetizer - and condescendingly cut up and piece mealed the singular appetizer, handing us each a small piece of the appetizer while humming a tune for us to “stop crying” seemingly mocking us for asking several times for a basket of bread, which was then clear when he told my boyfriend directly to “stop whining about the bread” Nonetheless we tried to make the most of our night. Our entries were put in with no issue however when the meals came out- the owner “reassured” me that I should be LUCKY that the kitchen made my pasta with Alfredo sauce instead of oil … which I’ve 1000% ordered before and never had an issue with... it was simple chicken Alfredo- for a “fancy” Italian restaurant, you would not think this a difficult task. Additional, It was not an issue to the waiter when I placed it. Regardless several entrees for the table came out wrong. With poorly cooked chicken and My pasta sauce was pure milk. When we brought it up the waiter and the owner- it was clear he could not accept criticism or negative comments on the food preparation. He was aggressively getting in the face of my boyfriend, making snarky remarks to our table, and trying to ensure us that we were wrong despite several dishes being below standards. His whole attitude was disgusting. He tried to make it seem as he did us a favor by taking our party, claiming we did not have a reservation despite having proof, and that he treats all guests the same. Any ounce of professionalism was gone. it was evidently clear that other patrons were friends / family as they joined in his mocking of us- definitely not supporting any crumb of professionalism this place held. One of the employees - I did not get his name but he was every sweet came over to apologize and offered the ladies at the table roses for Valentines Day, a sweet gesture. However that was quickly dismissed when the owner returned to make more snarky comments to us stating “those will be $5 extra to your bill” we told him to keep his dead flowers and we packed up and left. If you’re looking for a welcoming space to enjoy a meal with loved ones. This is not the place. They cannot handle stress / busy times of the day or holidays. Unfortunately, we had been warned based on their NYE party- but we thought we’d make our own assumptions. And it seemed worst than our friends experience. I will certainly never return to this place while this man is in charge. Absolutely repulsed.
Went here multiple times on regular days, plus once on New Year’s and again on Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, they clearly can’t handle more than a few small tables at a time. On both holidays, the food was completely lacking flavor and very disappointing. The owner is consistently rude and acts like he’s doing customers a favor just by serving them. It also feels like many of the positive reviews come from the same regulars I see every visit — the ones who seem to get special treatment. Overall, not a welcoming experience and not worth the price. I won’t be coming back.
