This place is DELICIOUS. The manager was so kind (as well as the rest of the staff) and made our two trips here to eat exceptional. The environment is lovely and clean and the fresh orange juice is to die for. The entire experience is incredible. Thanks guys! You truly made our short stay in Santa Barbara one to remember.
Get the French toast with bananas, I believe the first item on the breakfast menu, SO delicious!!! We all got different things from kale salads to the biscuits and gravy and mine was the favorite. Don't waste your time on anything else. 😊 (Breakfast wise, I can't judge lunch cuz I didn't have it, but the turkey sandwich looked delicious!)
Someone told us about the lobster benedict at this place so we stopped by on our way back from Solvang and it did not disappoint! The lobster along with the egg yolk and hollandaise all came together in sublime harmony. The crab omelette was stuffed with an unbelievable amount of crab but the lobster benedict was definitely the star of the show.
Open early, consistently good coffee and lovely bakery items - almond croissant - fresh orange juice. Take out and patio seating. On site parking. Wheelchair friendly.
I had a great breakfast experience at this particular location. The lobster special was outstanding. I love the ability to substitute side dishes without a surcharge. Excellent service. I will be returning to this location.
Some service issues that derive from being short staffed, but honestly very good food! Fresh ingredients, delicious hollandaise sauce, one of the best waffles ever, and fresh squeezed OJ. Definitely worth every penny!
From the moment of the welcome and throughout the meal we were gifted with warmth and smiles. A wonderful experience and yummy food.
I was so impressed with my usual quinoa eggs Benedict breakfast today. I have not had good experiences with to go meals at most restaurants - but here is a fine exception. The meal itself is the most nutritious example of a delicious no meat, no bread breakfast option, and this to go order was cooked perfectly, generous and still hot combination of lightly cooked spinach, fresh eggs, diced asparagus, multi-colored potatoes with Hollandaise sauce on the side - it was enough for today, tomorrow and the next day. Thank You, Jeanine’s on Upper State!
Stopped into Jeannine's for breakfast and had some biscuits and gravy that took me back to my roots in the south. I'm pretty picky when it comes to this stuff and these might be the best California has to offer, certainly the best I've had in the state. The kids had the smiley pancake and even that was a step above the norm. I highly recommend this place for breakfast, I'll give lunch a try and check back in here. #breakfastspots #santabarbara #hotspots
Amazing breakfast options, had french toast and American breakfast! The cakes and cookies looked great too but there's a limit how much I can eat, so the latter are a visual only review.
Jeannine's is an excellent breakfast/bakery brunch restaurant. You can eat in or take away coffee and baked goods. If you eat in, they have a split service style. You order at a walk up counter and then the food is delivered to your table when ready. Excellent bakery goods and food. The staff are very pleasant. Prices may be a little higher than most but quality is worth it. Because they are very popular there may be a wait and long line.
Came across this spot after a morning spent at the botanical gardens… just what we needed! Cali omelette and Cali scramble were delicious. Outdoor patio was great and service was quick.
Quick, efficient, very friendly staff. The Chorizo frittata was excellent. Fresh squeezed OJ. And we ordered a couple sweets…the ricotta cake was to die for. I ordered the Chinese chicken salad and it was over dressed and boring, but I wasn’t expecting much.
My fav place for breakfast/brunch in Santa Barbara! Destination spot on every trip here... that's how good it is! And what makes it so amazing is not only creative and healthy organic, gluten free food but the service!! Incredibly caring, very personal, and so genuine! In 5 years of eating here, always consistent!!
I'm a foodie, so let's start there. Our breakfast was delicious! I had the Belgian waffle and my husband had eggs Benedict. I'd take a picture, but it's all gone as I write this. Great coffee too!
Food and service is spotless. Jose went above and beyond to accommodate us. He was super attentive, polite and proactive. He was helping everybody and was everywhere. He treated the restaurant as if it was his own. I hope the company takes care of employees like Jose!
One Santa Barbara's best spots for breakfast or lunch. They have great combination s on their dishes, daily specials, really good coffee, and some people that have been working there for decades. Great service, good food and consistency make Jeannine's a locals favorite.
Is a wonderful joyful place that has the utmost quality on a daily basis. You can go buy a designer sofa or a wonderful mattress right next door at Santa Barbara County sleep shops. They are my neighbors, and I eat there at least 4 times a week. I would describe it as a very happy place. Peter, owner at SB sleep shop and Design Center.
I love this place great breakfast and lunches. Food is very fresh made to perfection and all the staff is down to earth awesome. Also their desserts are incredible! I highly recommend this darling place. They serve great Matcha as well!
Excellent breakfast food with very nice people and great service. Sat outside… wish the music wasn’t blaring so loud. Be a nicer experience with less blasting music.
Holy Moly. I checked the reviews for a great spot to have breakfast and this had the best reviews. I came here for birthday breakfast 9-7-19 and had the homemade heavenly blueberry pancakes and a side of scrambled eggs. I know they're just scrambled eggs, but come on they were yummylicious. I also had the giant latte and wow. So glad I googled this place. The staff beyond friendly. Best customer service. Clean and uber cute. Pastries looked fabulous, but was so full. It gives me a reason to come into Santa Barbara from LA just to come back to this amazing spot. Parking is a bit challenging, but don't pass up with sweet spot. You won't regret it.
BEST COFFEE BREAK EXPERIENCE EVER! The young lady at the front was so sweet and outgoing really had a contagious smile. Buy one get one pastries are to die for (especially warmed up)! Every employee greeted you with a smile and great attitude, obviously great location. I work right next door and will only be going to Jeannines for now on!!! Thank you for the great experience:)
LOVE LOVE LOVE Jeannine's. The food, drinks, and pastries are so good. I highly recommend. They have multiple locations and the one near the harbor is the most scenic. However this Jeannine's has always have slightly better food imo.
Visited the area for the weekend and absolutely loved eating here for breakfast! The food, service, efficiency, and atmosphere was wonderful. 10/10 experience here! The orange juice is so good!!
This is absolutely the best food. I had chicken enchiladas verde with a mixed green salad. It was delicious. The staff is awesome. Scott is amazing. There is a great positive relaxed atmosphere. I love it.
Best breakfast I’ve had in a long time. A little fancy, but everything was very, very well done. Best bacon, best pancakes I’ve had. If you’re in SB, you gotta stop here.
My fiance and I visit everytime we go back to SB. Honestly the cutest little restaurant cramped seating but that's the style. The staff is always super sweet and I love that they brew peets coffee! Try their farmers omelette that's my fave!
Best food, best service and best coffee in town. Jeanine’s (all locations) are great but our favorite is the Upper State St location. Priscilla is a GEM of a customer service/server staff. Consistently cheerful, always helpful and simply goes out of her way to help everyone. We come back here at least once a week and are never disappointed. Great job everyone. How does this business owner get so lucky finding such great staff??
This place was packed on A Su day with a line just to eat breakfast. We waited till Monday where at 9am we walked in. Busy but plenty of seating. They do it different here. You lineup to order and then find a table. It actually is very efficient. The Santa Barbara scramble is a winner. Served with hash browns and biscuit. Delicious and filling. Restaurant sits right Cabrillo across the street from the beach and Stearns Wharf. Great location
Still charming. Used to frequent many years ago. Returned when a friend was in town. Dog friendly patio. Food is delicious and artfully presented. Beware, not inexpensive. You can get lunch or breakfast all day. Friendly. Read menu and order at the bar. Servers will bring your food to your table. Just be prepared for the prices and enjoy. Will return with more comments.
Jeannines is my go-to breakfast spot in Santa Barbara. The staff is always ready to serve with a smile. The food is always consistent and never disappoints. The scones are delicious. I love the strawberry and lemon scones. Ask the staff to warm them up. I always show up to parties with a Jeannines cake. Order ahead of time online and request the coconut cake. You will be everyone's favorite person at the party. The French toast breakfast is also one of my favorites. The best French toasts in town. I love Jeannines and so will you.
I was at Jeannine's in May 2024 and ordered a chai latte and scones. The staff were very friendly. The drink and the food were incredibly delicious and if I didn't live so far away, I would have breakfast at Jeannine's every morning. So Jeannine's definitely deserves 5 out of 5 stars.
The staff are friendly and thoughtful. Food is delicious. Love the concept of ordering before you seat. Chai latte was yummy. New favorite SB must stop. 💕💕💕
Cutest spot right across from the water. Walk up to order and sit at whatever table you want! Great food, good champs, and great ambiance! Cute tables outside and inside and the customer service is out of this world! So friendly! Definitely try this place out :)
This is such a cute spot for breakfast, brunch, early lunch. Service is amazing, food is great. The way they have it set up is great, you get in line outside, then inside to order at the register then they have a table waiting for you. Servers are amazing. Clean restrooms. Right across from the BEACH.
Such an amazing experience here on 9/25. We were about to head to the airport and made a last minute decision to stop in for some breakfast, and I’m so glad we did. Such delicious food and such attentive staff. It didn’t matter that they were busy, they took the time to ensure we had everything we needed and that we had a great experience. Next time we are in Santa Barbara we will certainly stop in. Thank you all so much for caring for our party of 6 so attentively, and so much thanks to the staff. You guys are amazing.
Had tri-tip Benedict, very nice balance and excellent Hollandaise sauce. Cinnamon roll a bit dense. Fruit salad and drinks again excellent. (A number of local espresso bars have coffee that is too bright for me.) Ambiance is nice tea shop.
Very delicious breakfast! I had the lemon poppyseed pancakes. I usually don't order pancakes because I find them far too sweet, but I took a chance on these and was so happy that I did. My husband had the farmers omelette and the strawberry mint lemonade and really enjoyed both. Will definitely be returning!
Everything is amazing, from the service to the food and ambiance. Coffee is great too, we got a drip coffee and a vanilla latte. Lots of pastries and souvenirs/sweet treats to choose from. Lots of seating both indoor and outdoor. Two ways to order; one line to takeaway and one to dine in.
Cozy little walk-up serving chef-inspired entrees and salads for breakfast and lunch, along with an amazing assortment of fresh baked desserts. Went for lunch and ordered the Asian Spicy Lime Chicken Salad. I was impressed from the moment the dish arrived at my table. Beautiful presentation. Every bite was was full of flavor and texture that was pleasing to the palate.
This should be a must for any travel to Santa Barbara. The breakfast was delicious. There was a great variety of pastries to munch on. The staff was so kind and helpful. They offered suggestions on what to get.
Will be coming back again! Food | 4.8/5 | Portions were generous. Savory and sweet items were equally flavorful. Lobster Benedict - 5/5 | I'd recommend this especially if you want a heartier meal. They don't skimp out on the lobster at all. Hollandaise was on point. You can get your poached eggs easy/medium but easy was not even that runny so I'd recommend easy if that's what you like. It comes with a fruit salad cup and potatoes. The potatoes aren't crispy but they tasted great. Banana Kalua French Toast - 4.5/5 | I'm a sweets lover and let me tell you this is DRENCHED, or actually swimming in a pool Kalua glaze goodness. Some might love this because I'm always wanting more sauce in my food and to some reading this you might hate it excessively saucy food but I didn't mind it at all. This is a sweet (not balanced) breakfast item. To more accurately describe this item, it's is a French toast foster with a few banana slices. The Kalua glaze isn't just sweet. It has depth and complexity with the Kalua. With that being said, I will be ordering this again but maybe to share and not as a stand-alone breakfast item. Service |5/5| I came at 8:30am on Sunday and waited in a small line at the counter. By 9am they had people waiting outside and would let one party in at a time to continue to the indoor line so the dining room wasn't crowding diners and staff. I appreciate this but this is your warning of how busy it can get. I really appreciate their attempt for efficiency as they have someone taking your drink order as the party ahead is ordering food. This is not a full service, you seat yourself and servers really just come to bring you your food. You can get your own water from a drink dispenser. Order online is only for Tuesday - Thursday's. Ambiance |5/5| It's a bright, upbeat breakfast spot with a beach view. The music is on point and hip. Staff are high energy and enthusiastic and they run a very efficient ship for how busy it gets. Lots of high/low patio tables and indoor seating by windows. They have a little section to shop beach towels, hats, soaps, and some trinkets. Come with an appetite and get here before 9am!
Really nice ambience, I was a bit surprised about the order at the counter vibe, but actually liked how it worked out. The food was really good ... Avocado toast with poached egg was delish. French toast and breakfast burrito were both tasty. Coffees were great. Service was prompt and friendly.
Was only passing through Santa Barbara but I’m so glad I stopped at this place for brunch! Service was great, food was even better and we loved the outdoor seating. Would 100% eat here again!
Great restaurant! There are a few locations so make sure who ypu are meeting is going to the right one! Lol the food was delicious and the restaurant was so cute! Plenty of outdoor space to sit on a pretty day. Loved my experience.
Looking for a great place in Santa Barbara for brunch? This is it. Mouth watering pastries, made to order drinks, and wonderful food. I had the oatmeal and husband had the banana kahlua French toast. French toast is a wow! I had bites of the French toast and added the syrup to my oatmeal. Be sure and plan to stop by early, they close in the afternoons around 2.
Stopped by here for breakfast on our way through Santa Barbara and it was THE BEST! Everything was absolutely delicious. Atmosphere and ambiance was great. The shop was so cute. Food was so good. Staff was so welcoming and sweet. We finished our plates. Will be back if we ever come through Santa Barbara!
Very nice place for breakfast with, a good selection of food, and delicious pastries. The staff is very friendly and polite. The price is above average, a little unreasonable for me, but the place is good.
Stopped upon this little place on my way home around noon. The huevos rancheros was excellent. I did order it to go and tried to order pastries although they were almost all sold out. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito. It was a little on the bland side for me.
Amazing food. Extremely friendly staff. And very clean. Would highly recommend that pancakes and eggs.
Want to have Sunday brunch around 10am? So does everyone else. Jeannine's has an efficient approach. Line up, put your order in, then grab a table. Both the Bloody Mary and latte were delicious. The ChilChilaquiles were fantastic! The blueberry pancakes were fluffy and classic. The friendly food runners provided excellent service. This place should be your first choice!
Love this place. 😀 The coffee, 🍰 the pastries, and breakfast 😋, all so good. We travel here from Monterey, and Jeannine's is our "Go to" place to start our day. Friendly dedicated staff, consistently good 👍.

I thought Lalo was the star of the staff, but after I ordered and sat down, realized everyone here is a superstar. Great food with an awesome view is just icing on the cake.

Stopped at this location - wasn't sure how crowded the downtown one would be. Solid food that hit the spot, but the nicest thing I could say about the service was that it was a bit "frosty."
Great breakfasts. My French toast was delicious as was my partners Benedict... and their bacon is to die for! Only complaint is that the prices are a bit high for the portion size.
Excellent French toast!!! Asked for eggs over medium they were runny AF, over easy at best. Cappuccino was great! little over priced but the meal kept me full for 4 hours
I had the biscuits and gravy, eggs, side of bacon and a poppy seed muffin. The bacon was thick and delicious and the eggs were warms and fluffy. Gravy was good. However the biscuits and muffin were way too dry. I don't know if it was the recipe or if it was day old. The wait staff was great.
The pastries are good and the coffee is good too. They don't really have the best savory options as far as breakfast goes that won't break the bank. More expensive than other places in town. The Kahlua french toast is a favorite but it's usually a place to go when people from our of town come in.
I have loved Jeanine’s for 30 years and even with increasing prices I have remained loyal because it’s the best. I have always rated them five stars in the past, but now they lose a star… Why? The post Covid paper cup excuse is getting old… Give me a break! This is a QUALITY place. And I see no reason you can’t go back to ceramic mugs if you want to remain synonymous with quality.
Had the waffle breakfast. The eggs were a little tasteless, even with salt and pepper. I enjoyed the fresh berries and big waffle very much. A little pricey, but still good. The environment felt like a local restaurant you would see in a movie, very homey and pleasant.
We’ve always enjoyed Jeannie’s (Montecito, downtown SB and even a few times now at the new location across from the wharf) but today left me very unimpressed. The service is always kind and thoughtful here. So that’s good. Today I ordered two eggs and hash browns. The whites were cooked, the yolk still runny—all okay, but I hate getting eggs shaped like cartoon food. I imagine a plastic egg holder put into a microwave offering no flavor, no crisp edges. And the hash browns were soggy, oily. The cost for a regular coffee, two eggs and oily hash browns: over $20. Gosh, I understand about inflation issues, and that Mondays can be off days for a restaurant, but even the sourdough toast was undercooked, and ALL of it cool on arrival, cold a few minutes later. I was visiting a friend and so our conversation was hard to interrupt so I might ask for at least cooked toast. And so I was stuck with an overpriced Denny’s special. And my god, can this town not manage vegan. Vegan is not leaving something out to offer something bland. It is a nuanced and layered food experience often better than butter/milk/meat laden offerings. It is not overpriced avocado toast either. Ugh! This restaurant is definitely not suitable for those needing or wanting to be plant based. Today’s meal was stunningly underwhelming, but I gave 4 stars because the location is nice. Tourist will like it. It’s definitely a tourist experience. I am not likely to return, which is sad—I have loved this place in the past.
Great everything, even the presentation of the food. The reason I gave it four stars is because they use plastic and paper cups. It is a busy place and they can really make a difference to our environment by washing dishes instead of creating more trash for our landfills. Also, with all the news about microplastics, we should all avoid anything plastic when possible. It seems like they really care, as everything seems well thought out. I hope they read this and make the change. Thank you!
Beautiful restaurant in a great location, right off Stern’s Wharf. Very friendly staff. Excellent service. Portion size was decent and it tasted great. I only wish they had more vegetarian and vegan options in their restaurant menu.
The atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant was warm and cozy. Each employee I encountered was friendly and gave me a smile. My friend and I enjoyed our meal and wouls certainly go back for a nice peaceful breakfast.
As expected there were a lot of people there on a Sunday. Although the wait was very short. The food was very tasty and their espresso stinks hit the spot. Get a croissant warmed up and you won't regret. A little pricey but that's what we've come to expect dining on State Street.

The French toast was good but not worth the price point. My husband felt similar about the eggs benedict. The coffee was very good. As was the chocolate cake which we took home and ate the next day. I'd stick to this place for a sweet treat rather than brunch.
We fell in love with Jeannine's at the Montecito location (5 stars) a couple years ago. This was our first time at the new location across from the wharf, it's beautiful! Coffee is good as usual but lacked the special presentation of ceramic cups and nicely decorated cream on the top, this paper cup thing can't disappear soon enough! Pastries were great, though a little heating and butter would have made them excellent. Avocado toast was disappointingly lacking in substance (way too thin) and seasoning. Expected much more from a cafe that typically exceeds expectations. Overall was a nice time but missed the ingredients to make it an experience we can't wait to repeat.
Omelet was good, but they forgot the bacon. Service is lousy. I asked for water & was almost sent outside to get it, even after I was seated. Coffee located on one very crowded area. Employees are very comfortable with each other, but don't pay a lot of attention to the customer. Was very rushed to order & sit quickly or you won't get a spot.
Great Food, Very Disappointing To-Go & Customer Service Experience: I love the food at Jeannine’s and my partner and I made a point of ordering To-Go from them throughout the pandemic to help keep them afloat because we loved this little local business! However, every time we have ordered to-go from them, portions of our meal were missing and/or ruined due to poor packaging. We mentioned the consistent issues with our orders to the staff at pickup the last two times and were told that they wouldn’t do anything to improve their To-Go process (which is fine, the people we talked to weren’t managers and I get it). But, when we also tried to provide our feedback online we got absolutely no response. It’s shame because as much as we loved this restaurant, we just can’t continue ordering ~$16 average meals from them when half of each meal is inedible and/or missing. If ordering To-Go, I hope you can save yourself some hassle from reading this review and proceed with caution yourself when ordering takeout!
Excellent food. It is taking too long for Upper State to reopen. I am confused & get frustrated about it.
Wasn’t very impressed with the huevos rancheros here - probably best to stick to the benedicts. Prices are a bit high for brunch, and quantity of food was average.

I ordered the breakfast burrito, it was good but not enough to where I would visit again. We ordered coffee, we had to ask for it and it came after our meal. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. I came since it was recommended, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to go here. You're better off just making it yourself at home.
Went here for mother's day, can't speak on the breakfast menu but the sandwiches were incredibly below average for the price point. Ordered the most expensive sandwich at $17 and was severely disappointed, a total of 4 ingredients thrown between the bread with no seasoning and very bland flavor. It looks like something I've made as a college student with basically non-existent cooking cooking skills. Frankly the same item (a tri-tip sandwich) is available for a far cheaper price with far better quality and quantity at something like The Habit. Do not come here looking for a good lunch.
Jeannine’s has sadly gone WAY downhill lately. It used to be phenomenal back at the downtown location, but now that it closed and they’ve both jacked prices way up and shrank the portions of each meal, I always leave there hungry. Absolutely unacceptable. I’m over it. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Way overpriced for the portion sizes!!!
I placed an order online. The employee who brought my order handed me a coffee and I explained it should be iced. She then argued I must have ordered it wrong but she would “take care of it for me”, even though my order confirmation clearly says iced. Once I arrived home I realized there was much more wrong with my order and had to take it back. Once I got there I explained the issues with my order and even though they were clearly in the wrong they continued to try and justify the issues rather than just apologizing and remaking my order. It was almost like the employees didn't understand how to interpret the order from their own system. I will not be going back. Its too bad because the food was pretty good once it was made right, but the people working there were so frustrating.
The croissants are not buttery nor flaky. And the chocolate one, is minimally filled. The scones are way too soft to be scones. These pastries are just some sort of soft, white, sweetish dough. I do not understand the hype or the prices. I can only assume that many people don't know what a croissant or a scone are. I do not need to try any other items, as I assume they are similar, and they mostly have scones. Not a lot of variety for a bakery. I also waited a long time for a latte, and there was no line.
Too selfish restaurant... They may have their own self-esteem, but it is misleading to think that will be not used by all. I'm not used web reviwer. I ordered American breakfast but I got dry out potato sausage was over cooked and burn too hard bite. Very disappointed. This one of disappointing this Santa babara trip.
