Apero menu is delicious! Been a few times recently for the dinner menu and every visit the food has been world class! Last night was the latest and we enjoyed duck lettuce wraps, adult bread and butter (marrow bones), curied salmon, cavatelli with an incredible mushroom sauce and great desserts to share! Try it!

Easily the BEST dinner in SB. Superior to a number of restaurants in the area(even those with Michelin stars). I’ve been here by myself, with a group of 3-5, 20+ guests AND 120+ guests and the quality and service is consistent and incredible. EVERY. TIME. The service and the food are above and beyond. Every time I’ve come in I ask the for the 4-course meal and I have NEVER been disappointed. They always change it up and if there is ever something that sticks out to me on the menu they will accommodate the ask and incorporate it into the meal. My personal favorite is to sit at the bar. Jess always takes the best care and is beyond exceptional. She been here since being at the old location (reflecting the consistent quality and excellent ownership of Black Sheep). Jess is quick, knows the menu inside and out, and honestly, she is true, top-tier talent. You will not regret visiting here. This is a staple to Santa Barbara and one to remember!!

Lovely and attentive staff. The tasting menu and happy hour pre fix menu offer great value and an excellent way to explore the menu. The atmosphere is changing and unpretentious. The serving sizes are fair and should leave you full after a full tasting. The drinks were strong and well balanced.

We come a lot to Santa Barbara for weekend get away. My hubby found this restaurant while visiting there. Staffs were nice, we got the Chef’s tasting menu and we were stuffed. Cozy ambiance, food was very good and tasty. We Uber there so I wasn’t paying attention with the parking area. We made rsvp so we didn’t wait for a table.

Brought my mom here for her birthday and couldn't recommend the restaurant more highly. The quality of the ingredients is fantastic and everything we had was delicious. I had the duck which was especially good. Nice selection of wines and beer too!

From when she was my girlfriend to now being my fiancée, this restaurant has been part of so many special moments in our relationship. We've dined here seven times, always choosing their set course menus, and every visit feels like discovering a new world of flavors. Just when I think I understand a dish, Blacksheep elevates it to a level I didn't know was possible—perfectly balanced, beautifully plated, and absolutely unforgettable. Beyond the exceptional food, the service here sets a standard. On our most recent visit, Luke took care of us and made us feel genuinely welcomed and valued. It's rare to find a place where hospitality matches the quality of the cuisine, but Blacksheep delivers on both fronts effortlessly. This restaurant holds a truly special place in my heart. It's not just about the incredible food or the excellent service—it's about the memories we've created here. Whether it's a celebration, a special date, or simply an evening to treat ourselves, Blacksheep remains our favorite restaurant in the world. We’ll definitely continue coming back for years to come.

We did the tasting menu as part of a nuptial celebration and absolutely NOTHING disappointed. The service was top-notch, every dish on the tasting menu was flavorful, and the ambiance is modern and tastefully simple. Also, the short rib... I would walk 500 miles......

We had the most amazing experience! We were promptly greeted with a warm welcoming. We each ordered the tasting menu, since it was our first time coming in after the reopening. Our server, Sophie, was great..very attentive and friendly. Our meal was perfection. Each dish was better than the next and we ended up having to box up dessert because we were too full to enjoy it. Chef Jake has outdone himself to create a French fusion experience. This is not your classic French restaurant…it’s better! The classic dishes you know with the perfect twist to make them flavorful and fun. Lobster ceviche yum! The scallops, to die for!! The duck confit, chefs kiss! Michelin star watch out and you’re not going to break the bank to do it. The place did just open so it still has a slight smell of fresh paint, but kinks, we didn’t spot them. Recommended for an evening out or the special occasion. The loft area could even be a great intimate reception dinner idea. Highly recommended. (And if you sit in the loft and order the tasting menu the server is definitely making that tip because I am so sorry for making you climb mountains!!!)

An absolutely delectable meal and enjoyable evening! Ruben the owner greeted us and personally oversaw many aspects of our dinner - we felt at home here! We had two vegetarians and two carnivores. We opened with a bottle of Penville- a central coast Mourvèdre Santa Clarita 2018 vintage which was fairly light and well balanced for our overall meal. For the meat lovers we got the duck confit and the filet mignon. The meat was succulent and perfectly cooked medium rare. The duck was slightly dry but the sausages and wine washed it down well For the veggie lovers, we ordered the Cauliflower soup and hand rolled ricotta tagliatelle pasta. They were taken aback with the rich flavor and tastiness of their dishes. Vegetarian dishes are usually an afterthought at most places, but they certainly felt like they were the highlight here No room or time for dessert but the meal was excellent, service was quick, very attentive and refreshingly on point.

Our second visit and we decided to do the tasting menu, which includes 8 or 9 dishes to share over 4 courses. Service was attentive and helpful even though the restaurant was full. The food was delicious and reasonable. Highlights included the marrow toast, Brussels peanut slaw, albacore crudo, and braised shortribs.

Such an awesome place. Perfect for date night or with a group at the chef's table. Had the four course meal and was not disappointed. Great wine list, too. So happy this place opened back up. Chef Jake is top notch. Oh and the Brown sugar creme brulee is outrageous. Just perfect.

Excellent restaurant! The food was fantastic - we ordered a variety of dishes and everyone loved theirs. Also, our server was fantastic. We had just come from a courthouse wedding in downtown SB and they went way out of their way to help us celebrate and make us feel special. All in all, we will absolutely come back and highly recommend this spot for a great dinner.

The food was outstanding and clearly prepared with care and attention to detail. They handled our group of 60 people effortlessly while maintaining friendly and attentive service throughout the entire evening. Coming from someone with over 10 years in the food industry, it was especially meaningful to see how much the owner and team truly care about what they do. Watching the owner give a pre-event pep talk and personally focus on every detail before the evening began was something really special and cool to witness. If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would. I highly recommend Black Sheep for events of any size, and we will definitely be using them again in the future.

We didn’t make a reservation but were able to get a seat at the bar shortly after 5pm on a Friday. My wife and I both ordered the tasting menu, and each received four different courses. They all exceeded our expectations and it was fun to get so much variety. The staff was also engaging and attentive. It was a great value for the cost, too. The only downside was that the bar seating is uncomfortable for a long period of time. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone visiting—just make a reservation a week or so in advance for a weekend night.

My husband and I booked The Black Sheep for our 50-person wedding reception and it was the best decision! Jessica, the bartender, was so sweet when we first visited and made us feel welcomed. It was an easy choice to have the reception there. Kelly Jo was great to work with and kept wedding stresses to a minimum. We wanted to celebrate in a cozy atmosphere with great food and drinks and the restaurant did not disappoint! I’m still thinking about those beef cheeks!! And the espresso martinis were delicious! The tasting menu was plenty of food for everyone. I’d recommend The Black Sheep for large gatherings and date nights. We are excited to visit again on our anniversaries!

The Black Sheep is nice for a romantic dinner. My Wife wanted to try something different this evening, so we went ordered the course dinner. It was family style so the portions were generous for a course meal. We asked for no seafood and they made it happen. Asia, our waitress was nice and knowledgeable about the menu. The food here is amazing. With the course meal, you get pretty much a good sample of the menu. We had a little issue with the plates having a little bit of an odor but they swapped it out for us no problem. Ruben the owner came by, greeted us and apologized for the issue. He came by and gave us some complimentary non alcoholic drinks that was great. My Wife still talks about how great the food was after a week later. Thank you Ruben & Asia for making our first visit to Santa Barbara a pleasant time. Definitely will come back when we're back in town.

The owner and chef sat with us for a moment and chatted about the menu and history of the location and how he crafts his menus based on his desire to do things differently hence the name. Love this place!

From the moment you walk in, there’s a calm, welcoming energy that’s hard to describe but immediately noticeable. The entire team moves with this quiet confidence, everyone clearly in sync and doing their job seamlessly. It creates a relaxed, collected atmosphere that makes you want to settle in and truly enjoy the experience. The ownership and management set the tone in such an authentic way. The owner personally checks in on tables and even sends out fun little tastes from the bar, which adds such a thoughtful and personal touch. Asia and the rest of the management team are incredibly engaging, attentive without hovering, and genuinely invested in making sure every guest feels taken care of. You can feel that culture of hospitality throughout the entire staff. What made the night even more special was that I came in with my 10 year old daughter. She kept saying how amazing the place was and that it was the best steak she’s ever had. As a dad, that meant a lot. The staff made her feel welcomed and important, not just like a kid tagging along. She felt seen and special, and that says everything about the heart behind this restaurant. The décor feels like stepping into a refined French dining space, warm, intimate, and beautifully curated. As someone who really appreciates creative cuisine, I was blown away. The dishes are imaginative yet balanced. Even the salads combine ingredients and flavors you would never expect to work together, yet they do so beautifully. Every plate feels intentional and impeccably executed. It’s rare to find a place where the energy, service, and food all align so perfectly. Black Sheep is not just a restaurant, it is an experience. We will absolutely be back.

My family and I were blown away by our dining experience. Honestly, one of the most memorable meals we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff made us feel so welcome and strove to create the best possible encounter. Black sheep is such a gorgeous restaurant. We had a fantastic time experiencing everything from the wonderful service great detail on the menu, able to really explain dishes. Every dish that our group purchased was absolutely delicious from the entrées to the appetizers to the side dishes, the wine was delightful. Would recommend it to anybody in the area for a nice dinner with friends.
