The best Mediterranean food in the bay hands down! I have loved Achilles in Santa Clara for many years. I was so delighted to find Achilles by the Sea in Santa Cruz. Their heart shaped falafels are super crispy. The shawarma bowl is my go-to order. They come with great portions. The lentil soup is perfect for the cold weather and you absolutely need to try their desserts!

Great place for Mediterranean food. Big portion. I love their side dishes: the garlic cream and baba ganush are outstanding with strong appetizing aroma. They also have Persian delights, which is quite rare to find with this much variety. The staffs are kind and the place is clean/ well decorated. I would like to try other dishes next time.

GREAT FOOD AND GOOD SERVICE ABSOLUTELY ONE OF my FAVORITE PLACESES. Loved the food it's by far one of the best places to get greek food besides like a really expensive dine-in style restaurant. If you want to just go grab it to go in or want a place to grab some Greek food real fast this is the place. It's not a really long wait which I loved and it's has that little mom and pop style restaurant feel to it which really loved about the place. Waffle fries are awesome and the baklava is wonderful all the desserts are great. The staff are really friendly and helpful plus great food makes it an easy top choice for me. I am so glad this place opened up—everything I’ve eaten here has been delicious, and considering the average price of groceries and eating out around town, I find it very affordable. I’ve eaten different things from there several times via coworkers or my husband, but today I finally came in with my daughter to get lunch for her, my son, and myself, and paid only $25 and change for falafel, a generous container of hummus, pita, fries, and baklava. We were all stuffed and I still have some hummus to snack on with cucumbers at home! That alone keeps me coming back bc the hummus is so yummy. The man who helped us with our order was so kind and welcoming to my little girl and to me. I greatly appreciated this above and beyond customer service, which actually made me want to write a nice review. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious. It’s basically my family’s new favorite spot in town—their wraps are filled with fresh produce and absolutely delicious and flavorful. I’ll be back to try some of the Turkish delight and everything else on the menu.

Great food, friendly service, awesome ambience :-) Would definitely go again. We were wanting to go to Taco Bell and Google Maps showed us where one was in Santa Cruz. When we got there, Taco Bell was gone and we saw Achilles there. We said, why not, we love Greek food. It did not disappoint!!!

The falafel has got to be the best I’ve ever had. Incredibly crunchy on the outside, and so much flavor on the inside. My ONE complaint is that the wraps came in a tortilla, which threw me off a bit! But the fillings were so fresh and delicious it made up for it. I do wish they had a regular flatbread wrap option, but I’m super excited to eat here again.

Excellent food. The vegetarian sandwich was soooooo good. Havent had such a freshly well prepared midditereanean piece in a long time. Along with the food I experienced excellent customer service from Elias. So much variety with the Turkish delight rolls. So blessed to have this place close by where I live. Only other place I know that you can get Turkish delight rolls is at Cannery Row in Monterrey.

Went there with a friend for lunch and it was sooooooo good. Their falafels are in heart shapes which is super adorable. We got the gyro wrap which was a generous portion. The staff are also all super friendly, answering all my questions. 10/10 absolutely going again the next time in Santa Cruz.

We chose Achilles to cater my husband's 70th birthday and it was amazing! Plentiful servings, all super fresh and delicious. Every food option was a good one and all our guests raved about how wonderful it was. This family-owned business was friendly and super appreciative of our business, adding a special plate of birthday falafels to the order as a thank you. Highly recommend Achilles for eat-in, take out, or catering. What I can't believe is that I didn't get any photos of the food! I guess we were too busy enjoying it. Opa!

Came on the way to the beach. We enjoyed 3 different gryo meat dishes (tacos, pita, and the plate). All tasty and enjoyed all the toppings options and sauce options.

Sometimes I just want a fast healthy meal without any fancy ambiance. This place does it right. Enough options to satisfy anyone's current fad diet and their spoiled child's picky palate too. And a side of waffle fries, because it's cheat day!! We enjoyed our fries in their quaint parking lot parklet. Looking forward to another visit soon.

If you want to try amazing Mediterranean food in Santa Cruz, this is the place. Their menu is simple, chicken, beef, falafel. I really like the sauces, specifically taziki. The staff is very friendly, and the decor is cute. I've been to their other location in Santa Clara and the food is just as awesome. The portions is huge and good value for the money

I have been to many places in Santa Cruz for this type of food for lunch and hands-down omg. This was the best Mediterranean food in town fresh reasonably priced snd super tasty. I was so impressed -definitely will be going back and recommend you try this place - fyi the fries are incredible, but then so is everything else. Wow

This place is delish. Santa Cruz restaurants often struggle with customer service, but not so at Achilles. The owner always has a moment to explain menu items or just ask after your day. The food is good and reasonably priced and often comes promptly, with bless you hit the rush and then you know it’s worth it to wait!

This place is great! Really helpful service, the food is also delicious. Love the enormous selection of turkish delights. I got a rose and pistachio one (I'd never tried Turkish Delight before, just always remember it from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe) and it had just the right amount of sweetness. This is a great lunch spot, and good parking.

Very good falafel with tasty sides and sauces. My only complaint is that they did not use enough of the Amba sauce. Will ask for extra next time.

Had one of the best Greek/Mediterranean meals in recent history here- the hummus is creamy and garlicky and perfect, the pita fresh baked and chewy and perfect, the heart-shaped falafel are fried to perfection and absolutely tasty dipped in some tahini, the gyros were spectacular and generously portioned. The lentil soup was savory and delicious. The Basil Seed Soda was an interesting but tasty find, and the selection of Turkish delights was out of this world- so many varieties, traditional and modern, and the baklava was :chefs_kiss perfection. All with service with a great vibe and genuine care for the experience we had. I can't rate Achilles highly enough- they are 10/10 perfect in my book and we will definitely be back.

I stopped there for lunch and ordered the Gyro Pita sandwich. It was great and hit the spot, I really enjoyed it. But when I was there the owner offered me a taste of their lentil soup, and I will order it next time. It was real authentic lentil soup. He also offered me some falafels to taste, and they were the some of the best falafels I tasted. The place was clean, you order on the counter, and they will bring out the food. Staff was extra nice and took the time to answer questions. I will go back there again.

Achilles is by far the best Mediterranean food I’ve tasted and what makes it so much better is the customer service that surrounds you. I work for a veteran nonprofit, and I chose Achilles by the sea for a food option. The owner Elias personally reached out to me, and I have never ever received such kindness and support that I received from him. He is such a great guy, and the food that he prepares for his customers is beyond, amazing. I cannot explain how grateful we are for the support of Achilles. The veterans were so grateful and they all complemented on how great the dinner was. So, on behalf of Operation Surf, we want to highlight Achilles by the sea, and the amazing staff that supported our Veterans, staff and volunteers alike. Thank you again and I highly recommend you trying this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

This establishment, which was previously Taco Bell, has transformed into a delightful Mediterranean restaurant with kind employees and delicious food. We were impressed by the quality and quantity of the food we received in our order. And the dessert choices, wow, there were so many to choose from. We will definitely be returning as regular customers and highly recommend others try this great restaurant. It is casual and quick, not losing any quality.

We visited this restaurant with friends and had a great experience. The wraps were amazing and very customizable which allowed four people with different tastes to get exactly what they wanted. On top of the food being delicious the service was amazing. Everyone who was working when we went in was incredibly kind and attentive. The prices were totally reasonable, especially considering how much food you got. Don't skip out on the Turkish delight! We tried almost a dozen and every one was fantastic in it's own way. If you're thinking about eating here, do it!

This place is amazing. Just finished eating lunch. Had the sampler plate & a side of greek salad: the pita, superb. The dolma: perfectly balanced the falafel. The falafel: crispy and fluffy. The hummus was superb as well, best we’ve had in a while. Salad: PERFECT. Very good food and great service! A friend took me there for a birthday lunch. While I was waiting for her to arrive, Chanel at the counter welcomed me and offered to explain how the menu works. I had seen rave reviews for the lentil soup, but could not find it on the menu. She pointed it out and offered a sample. Yep, delicious. We ordered a gyro beef plate and a falafel wrap, eating on their patio. After, I asked what was smoky in my dish because I had ordered every sauce, “The Works” and couldn’t figure out what was what. Elias explained that the baba ghanoush has eggplant they roast, which gives it a smoky flavor. He asked if it was my first time to Achilles, and I said, yes, for my birthday. He was delighted that I had come for the occasion, and gave me a baklava in a cute box. Both Chanel and Elias were warm, friendly, and genuinely happy that we were there, and that made us very happy to be there. I will return for the delicious food, generous portions, and, especially, for the warm service.

I kept hearing great things about Achilles and finally tried it myself... Delicious! Fresh and well put together. Plus an impressive array of baklava and Turkish delight to choose from. This instantaneously became one of my new favorite places in town.

Yum yum I came here for the first time ever just the other day and boy have I been missing out. The spot is super cute and the case of Turkish delights is not only visually appealing but very delicious as well. We had the pita pocket gyro and chicken shawarma and it was soooooo good. This place was a delicious surprise! I loved absolutely everything I've tried. This is coming from someone who has lived in Athens, Greece. The staff were kind and helpful. The portions were large. I tried the spicy falafel & gyros plate with all the sides. My only negative critiques.are that the inside and bathroom haven't been updated since this was a Taco bell. Also, my halva was too sweet. Other than that, I will definitely be back!

Excellent service, love the vegan and vegetarian friendly nature of this place, and the falafel is hands down the best I've had in my life life, with spice profile that I've never experienced! Paired with their simple greens and vegetable additions (cucumber and chilis fresh and pickled, olives, and tomatoes), plus their amazing hummus, this meal is genuinely something I was not prepared for! Looking forward to trying some of your vegan desserts / treats soon, and thank you for the dolmas as well!

So glad my roommate and I found this place the food was delicious and that baklava was soo good and they have a huge Variety of Turkish delights that display itself looks like art . Give it a try if you want something refreshing!!! And the Staff were amazing as well!!

Some warnings for when ordering takeout! Firstly, the sauces do not come on the side, like it shows in the online picture and like other restaurants do it. I ordered all 4 sauces (extra charge) because I wanted to try each of them individually, but they came as a mixed drizzle over my falafel plate. From my perspective that seemed very silly and I don't see the chef's reasoning for doing that (they could have at least drizzled each sauce separately over a different falafel ball). But I can't bring myself to dock a star, because the food still tasted so excellent in spite of the silly sauce mess on top. Secondly, the "Spicy Party" garnish is a mixed pepper thing that includes pickled jalepenos, and it's moderately spicy. For me the heat was very welcome, but if you are looking for a mild dish, be sure to specify your garnishes individually and do NOT to get "the works"! Thirdly, don't skip out on the turkish delight! When I walked in to pick up my order, I noticed a beautiful display with nearly twenty flavors of it, so I had to make a second transaction. I'm so glad I did! I got the rose one and the saffron one, and both were incredible (they do go light on the saffron flavor, probably due to its price, but the overall flavor was really remarkable!) I might return at some point just to snack on the turkish delight. Fourthly, the "achilles spread" is very tasty but it's also very heavy! It's kind of like eating half a cup of (deliciously seasoned) heavy sour cream. If you've got a big appetite or are prepared to have leftovers, I would recommend getting the pita bread with it - in my opinion it needs some kind of carb texture-wise. Personally I ate mine on top of the included turmeric rice, which went great with it. Finally, the baba ganoush here is fresh - you can taste that they roast the eggplant properly - but I would prefer if there were a bit more acidity (tanginess) like Falafel of Santa Cruz's baba ganoush. There's a certain "something something" that it could benefit from, and I wonder if it could be achieved with a bit more garlic or lemon juice in the recipe. As others have noted, the portion size is generous for the price. At least, it was for my falafel plate with the works. The second time I eat here, I'll definitely change a few small things about my order. If I'm craving plain baba ganoush with pita I might still go to Falafel of Santa Cruz, but if I want any other greek food, Achilles is the clear winner. I've been to the other location in Santa Clara and this was my first time and this location. The food is honestly just as good as each location but what really stood out to me at this location was the impeccable customer service of the young man at the counter. He seemed to always be doing something to stay busy and he was incredibly kind and gracious. If he's not the manager already, he would make a great one. Thank you for the good food and good service.

Delicious! I have to mention the Turkish Delight (Locum) - They have over eight different types, and they have real Turkish Halvah! There's also a Greek bottled sparkling Tea that tastes like Istanbul tea! They have their system down so even when busy the wait time is NOT LONG! I LOVE this PLACE!

Amazing food, we got the beef and lamb kofta plate with a chicken kebab added, the beef and lamb was phenomenal, and Elias (I think that’s his name) was amazing and very kind! Am definitely coming back next time I am in Santa Cruz.

I ordered pita pocket before and really liked it (please don’t change anything about them, they’re perfect). Had to go in-person this time, and voila! Found our new fave Mediterranean restaurant. They gave us complimentary heart shaped falafels 🥰 thank you!

So I read the previous reviews before coming here and I thought not much of this place, but the food has been amazingly fresh. We loved the Baba Ghanouij so much that we ordered it twice after trying it. Highly recommended 👌

Absolutely loved my first visit here! The vibrant, colorful decor instantly transported me to the Mediterranean, and the warm, welcoming staff made the experience even better. We catered a family party for 25 people and ordered Chicken Kebab, Falafel, dolmas, babagabous(sp?), delicious hummus, salad, rice and grilled veggies. It was a 10/10!!!!! What a hit! I got a chance to ask about the halal meat source: its a mix of 3: restaurant depot, sysco, and santa clara factory and its machine slaughtered. They also sell alcohol here as an fyi. Amazing food! Our first time here while visiting from Sacramento! Got to meet the owner and his beautiful bird. They offered amazing customer service, and even gave us falafels on the house. 10/10 service and quality. Definitely recommend stopping by here if you haven't already!!

okay idk why no one has mentioned the beautiful resident macaw named Nova who lives outside LOL so that was definitely an awesome surprise when coming to eat here. We were driving down the coast of California and found this great little place for lunch. We got the Chicken Shawarma Bowl, Achilles Chicken Pita Sandwich, and Chicken Tacos. One thing that really stands out is how they stuffed my pita sandwich and the tacos were so full, you really need a utensil to eat them. The food is tasty, but a bit pricey. You can buy desserts and merchandise. There's indoor and outdoor seating.

I went in for a sweet treat. The woman at the counter was nice and helpful, describing the popular traditional treats, and the more popular modern treats. I ended up going with the traditional honey Turkish delight. It was my first time with a Turkish delight and at first, I wasn’t sure if I liked it. However, it grew on me and by the end I loved it. Very subtle in sweetness, and a unique taste. Super tasty. The atmosphere of the restaurant however, doesn’t match how good the treat was. It felt dirty, smelled like a gas station bathroom and didn’t have any warm and inviting feeling. Overall, pretty good experience.

Unexpectedly good! Recommended to us by our Persian hairdresser, a man who certainly knows food of the region. I had the gyro in a pita pocket with everything and was very pleased without the tenderness of the meat, the freshness of the vegetables, and the tasty tsatziki sauce. My wife had the falafel in a wrap and was equally pleased. We both had enough left over to bring home and have for dinner. Service was prompt, and pricing was reasonable. Interestingly, their dessert cabinet at the front has a wider array of desserts that are unique than any Mediterranean / mid Eastern focused restaurant I've been in. We will definitely go back, and as a contractor frequently doing work in the area it'll make an ideal lunch spot.

Oh no! What happened? My favorite Mediterranean restaurant has changed its flavors and spices all of a sudden there seems to be curry in the pita sandwiches. It’s in everything, the meat, the sauce etc. And…. They put hot sauce all over the kids dish. We expected the sauce on the side but it was all over the meat. Shoot!!!! ———- My review from a few years back: Nice staff, quick service, easy to order online. The food is delicious. As someone who has spent quite a bit of time in the Mediterranean this food is authentic.

Beautiful display of a Large variety of Greek fresh nugget rolls and baklava. Also, it has the typical pita sandwiches but provides the option for a wrap or a bowl; choice of sauces like tahini or yogurt etc. Pita bread was a little chewy and falafel a little soft but loved the fresh peppers. I will go again and try some other things on the menu. Had to get a sample of the sweets to bring home and only chose three out of the maybe 30 choices.

I went here after seeing it open daily but not seeing any customers parking in the lot between lunch and dinner. Was delightful in the food, but the atmosphere is a little tacky. The tables and chairs are too low. Delicious food and goodies though. Pleasant workers too!

We were driving down the coast of California and found this great little place for lunch. We got the Chicken Shawarma Bowl, Achilles Chicken Pita Sandwich, and Chicken Tacos. One thing that really stands out is how they stuffed my pita sandwich and the tacos were so full, you really need a utensil to eat them. The food is tasty, but a bit pricey. You can buy desserts and merchandise. There's indoor and outdoor seating.

I went in for a sweet treat. The woman at the counter was nice and helpful, describing the popular traditional treats, and the more popular modern treats. I ended up going with the traditional honey Turkish delight. It was my first time with a Turkish delight and at first, I wasn’t sure if I liked it. However, it grew on me and by the end I loved it. Very subtle in sweetness, and a unique taste. Super tasty. The atmosphere of the restaurant however, doesn’t match how good the treat was. It felt dirty, smelled like a gas station bathroom and didn’t have any warm and inviting feeling. Overall, pretty good experience.

It's a small , Mediterranean/Turkish place where you order up at the counter. There are a few tables available for seating. The lady who took our order at the counter was… offputting. Her demeanor was strange, which made our experience a bit odd. The food was good though. I got the combo wrap with everything with gyro and falafel and it was outstanding. Huge portion! My wife got the Kafka plate and it was also good. They have these very interesting desserts that you can order as well. Strangely, you have to order two. Not sure why. Parking is available too.

For instance, our combination plate had only two falafel and a small scoop of chicken shawarma with the small sides for around $20 and didn’t include pita. Very steep price for what’s included. Lentil soup is pretty good though pita chips included were quite stale. Service is very friendly.

I love the food and friendly service here. The food is fairly priced too. My only problem is that the use so much plastic. When I eat in at a restaurant I don't want flimsy plastic cutlery and I certainly don't want to eat from a takeout container. If you guys rethink this part of the business, I'll definitely be back.

Came here on a Saturday around 2pm. The restaurant was not busy, I took my order right away and it was ready within 10 minutes for takeout. The staff was friendly, the food was good but nothing to call home about. The inside of the restaurant definitely still has the same vibe as the taco bell that used to be there, in my opinion. I'd go back for the food but would not dine in. Some work needs to be done on the interior. I hope to see this restaurant be successful in this spot!

It was okay. I've had much better. Prices were too steep IMO. They charged over a dollar extra for a sprinkle of cheese for example. I had the falafel pita which was over $15 and got my mom the chicken shawarma for around $13. The falafel was dry and didn't have much flavor. The other fillings were tasty though. My mom did not like her shawarma at all, she said it was extremely bland and didn't finish it. Will not be returning.

The lady taking our order was very nice and helpful for us. Our food was delicious, I liked it a lot better than another local place that serves similar food. However, I do wish there were a few other options, and that the sauces would be served on the side. The inside felt rather cold and smelt of cleaning supplies. It wasn't terribly welcoming, but we will be back.

Overall I was really disappointed with what I got. We ordered the Achilles chicken and schwarma plate and while the food on the plate was alright - there was no pita bread. I ordered pita bread as an extra/additional charge and not only was it not fresh, not only was it just a sad single pita, -- it was microwaved. So disappointed about this because it literally takes 1 minute on a hot pan to reheat precooked pitas and it's not difficult to make at home yourself either... The same plate we ordered at Nick the Greeks gave us 4-5 pitas without extra charge and the portion was near double the size. I haven't tried their falafels so I can't speak to that, but if you're a pita lover this place is not for you. I probably wouldn't have noticed how odd the atmosphere was if the food was better but it really just felt like sitting in an old Taco Bell. It also is nowhere near the beach fyi.

Place is very expensive for what you get. Food was ok. The 3 stars is because the service was good and they were nice. Concept is good also.

I wanted to like this restaurant as I love Mediterranean food, but I found the food to be just OK. I would also say pass on the Turkish delight, I got two different ones and was not a big fan - one bite was plenty. I love the overall atmosphere and vibe, but didn’t think the food was that great.

we were very disappointed with the gyro wraps. They were filled with too many vegetables and not enough meat, and they used a tortilla instead of a lavash or gyro wrap. Tzatziki sauce was not good. Also very overpriced not worth it.

I’ll delete the post if the owner replies…. I was told the premium steak would take 20 minutes to cook, excited that it was gonna be fresh off the grill, but unfortunately it was not. It was ready in five minutes and It tasted like it was sitting there for several hours and was just reheated….

Nice enough food, but never returning. They refuse to process a takeout order over the phone, so no takeout for you unless you use the website and the credit card (where they ask for an outlandish tip for takeout).

Lamb and beef Gyro wrap was made from frozen strips and NOT from the rotating gyro meat. The frozen strips were not even heated enough and looked really unappetizing. The chicken gyro wrap was a few pieces of very unappealing pieces of chicken meat that was practically drenched and swimming in a watery blend of juices from the lettuce, tomato and other vegetables and sauces. The young man said he couldn't do anything based on looks, but he did admit that the gyro meat came frozen. He was also nice enough to offer us soup and rice after we told him that we were just going to give them to the wraps homeless and we did exactly that after we left.

Wow. I got a plate of dog food. I am going back tomorrow to talk to the owner with my plate and show him what I got. It was more than disappointing. I got the Achilles chicken plate to go.when I got home and opened up the container it was just a jumbled up mess of everything I ordered. Everything was just thrown in without any care. It takes a lot to get upset with food. I just think the employee is either untrained or unhappy there. Ugg I don't want to complain but the owner has to see what was giving to me. Not right.

Wife and I both got chicken Shawarma bowls one star, the food was mush and just uninspired.
