Opinions de Ferrell's Donuts Santa Cruz
I thought I knew great donut places ! Wow if I lived here I’d be visiting often! So much room to sit down! Well lit I did a u-turn because I noticed they were open. The selection they had was incredible ! So many donuts to choose from, and they all looked so fresh lots of choices of chocolate milk, regular milk, 2% milk and many other things to drink they even have a arcade claw game James was who helped us and he was so great very happy to help and very polite. Very refreshing. ! We went with the cinnamon roll, which was only four dollars and humongous soda delicious
The employee was so happy and nice very helpful too for my boyfriends and I first time ever in this place and so glad we got the donuts are so delicious my boyfriend got the pink frosted, glazed and sugar donuts they were huge and I got 2 mini filled donut holes lemon and cream filled and one chocolate covered donut that was big they hit the spot I will say it's the best donuts we ever had in life we now found our new bakery spot!!!! Prices are reasonable too
This is a great donut shop off of Mission. Plenty of parking (even though the parking lot is in major need of repair ). Always plenty of fresh donuts. Well made.
We recently visited Ferrell’s Donuts on Mission Ave, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! We tried the cronut, and it was epic—perfectly crispy on the outside with a soft, flaky interior that just melts in your mouth. We couldn't resist getting a variety of other donuts to take with us, and every single one was a hit. The donuts are not only delicious but also generously sized, making them a great value. On top of that, the service was exceptional. The staff was super friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed quickly and with a smile. This place is a gem, and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone looking for top-notch donuts!
Would go back for the Ube donut. May I request some vegan options and a blueberry or cinnamon custard filling option added? Thanks!
The donuts do not disappoint, so many classics and specials to choose from. The staff are cool and efficient. I'd give the vibe a five but the building is a one so it's a 3 for atmosphere.
These donuts are really big. They're also so fresh and so good. My whole family enjoyed them! We will be back.
This place is delicious. Doughnuts are top notch and are a good price. Personally I like the ice cream from Marianne’s they have but both options are great.
Lovely choice of tasty doughnuts at a great price. The girl behind the counter was very helpful and friendly. And their coffee tastes great as well. Easy to park up, with ample parking around the property. Rob recommends: Their maple syrup glaze doughnut
Superb selection of freshly made donuts! All the flavors and they melt in your mouth, definitely a must stop when driving through. The employee working was super friendly and welcoming too.
So nice! Great donuts, friendly employees, excellent location. Go here for the standard classic donuts like old fashioned and maple bars. Delicious! And open 24 hours!
great tasting food, had a awesome time coming to this place and trying out their ice cream doughnuts. Will gladly tell my friends to go back!!!

First time at this location and I was totally impressed! Walked in got in line, 3 people ahead of me and I was in and out within 3 minutes! I'm sorry I didn't get the girls name but she's a Rockstar! Give that girl a raise.
Delicious doughnuts and large drink selection (have yet to try the coffee) open 24/7 (except Sundays!) for all your munchie needs. The people working there are always very friendly and have no problems if you, uh, take an extra long time deciding which one you want. My favorite is the glazed buttermilk bar! They're not easy to find at doughnut shops these days it seems but the Ferrell's one is heaven in a doughnut. They also have Marianne's ice cream if you don't want to go all the way to Soquel. The decor and purple walls are quirky and fun, as are the knife fights that happen in the parking lot sometimes. Never know what you're gonna get!
As a doughnut aficionado I have found the best cake doughnut I’ve eaten in a long time. My husband said his old fashioned was the lightest and fluffiest he’s ever had.
Hands down, best donuts we've ever had. Not only do they mop the floor with chains like Dunkin' Donuts, but they also out-donut the other Ferrell's Donuts in the area. Every time we go, no matter what time of day, they always have a fresh selection. This place would make Krispy Kreme rethink it's name.
The purple ube donuts are as tasty as they are beautiful! They look like chocolate cake with purple frosting, but they're purple inside. I don't know for sure, but they might be made with real grated ube and not just flavoring. They're tender and moist inside like the ube pancakes I made at home. (If you don't use any coloring, ube turns blue-green from the baking powder.)
Wonderful donuts - great selection, especially if you like sprinkles. Clean, friendly staff. Good place to get your morning sugar fix.
The service was great because the young man behind the counter was kind and helpful. The donuts are twice the size of most donuts that I've eaten. They were fried well and tasted sweet. Well done.
We visited Ferrell Donut outlet in west side Santa Cruz ( CA ) and found the quality of freshly brewed coffee and donut to be excellent and with a personalised service. Highly recommended.
Well I will have to say that they really cleaned and upgraded the inside which makes it easier to pop in when I give into one of their delicious donuts ml
I haven't been to Ferrell's Donuts, honestly, in decades. I was reading an article about the best donuts in the US, and Ferrell's immediately came to mind. This, even though I've been in Portland, with Voodoo Donuts, almost 25 years. I LOVED Ferrell's donuts, especially the french donuts, crispy and delicious when fresh. Bonus: you can take your treats for a very short drive and eat them while watching the ocean. I miss you, Ferrell's.
Inexpensive, clean, and delicious donuts. But here is the real kicker... they are open 24/7. As a student of the local university, it can be hard finding places that are open after three in the morning. Staff has always been friendly and accommodating. Have not tried their ice cream, but their donuts and cheese/jalapeno/ham filled croissants are to die for! Wish they had some cheese and jalapeno croissants without meat though.
Ferrell's is THE BEST. When people say other donuts are the best, they haven't had Ferrell's. My personal favorites are the old fashioned with any icing, but they are all good. There is also an excellent selection of Marianne's ice cream, including flavors like Green Tea and Macapuno. The staff is always incredibly helpful and friendly, and the bathrooms are clean. Since it's a 24-hour place, it attracts some interesting characters (and a lot of students). It's the definition of a throwback - 24 hour places with amazing donuts just don't exist anymore!
Wow! Super large donuts for the price! Nice employees/service.Parking lot nice and big.
Great selection of donuts at a reasonable price. No French crullers when I went, but good old fashion donuts and great rolls. Coffee was nothing special, but great, overall. Awesome that they're open 24/7.
The best donuts I've ever had including VooDoo donuts in Portland and Top Pot donuts in Seattle. Try the basic classic original with glaze. My favorite is a custard-filled maple bar (they'll custom fill any bar for you with your desired filling if not already on the shelf!). Always friendly people and fast service.
Very good donuts. I love that they are slightly doughy. Super soft! Great tasting icing. We'll definitely be back. FYI, CASH ONLY. Good thing my husband came along, he always has cash!
This is a must have. Every time we take a family trip to the beach, we stop of at Ferrell's Donuts on Mission. They are very clean and kind, lots of variety. You definitely get what you pay for. Coffee and Donut 🍩 on the beach rocks! 🌴💝😁
Best donuts on santa cruz county! I've been going there since the 70s!
Sales people are always extremely friendly. Great for studying into the night, especially for exams, because of its hours. They sometimes close up around 2:30am to 5:30am, which helps remind you to take a break, go home, take a shower, refresh, and come back for more studying. Friendly, convenient, and reasonably priced.
A shop definitely has to be a little cryptic to sell donuts at 2am! There’s a distinct feeling that this donut shop exists outside of time. The smell of cinnamon and dough wafting through the night air is unusually, but incredibly alluring. Ferrell’s serves up great, fresh donuts and fantastic ice cream (Kalhua Crunch takes the cake) at all hours of the day!
Favourite donut shop, great service and selection. I recommend the basics, I always get the icingy choco custard things but the plainer dips and old fashions are superior. Shout-out to the young asian woman working the till on weekends is as sweet as the donuts!!
This place is how I got through my undergraduate degree at UCSC. Unlike most 24 hour places, Ferrell's isn't super dingy and gross. Most importantly though, their donuts are top notch. Try the blueberry donuts and I promise you won't regret it.
These are like the donuts of yesteryear... generously sized and generously filled, but still reasonably priced... Our family fell into gluttony, but oh, it was so worth it! Open 24/7 and reasonably close to home, we'll be making this a tradition whenever we are in Santa Cruz.
Donuts are so good! Big variety and they all look delicious. I found them very cheap too for how good they are
The absolute, hands down BEST donuts ever can be found here! Every time I'm in the vicinity I stop and get a couple of their glazed donuts. The texture of the donuts is heavenly! Plus, they are open 24 hours a day!
The donuts are some of the best I have ever had. Too bad there is not one closer to where I live. But I will always stop by if I am in town.
If I could eat donuts everyday without gaining weight this would be in my top 5 spots. Hot coffee and I've never had a donut/cronuy I didn't enjoy
Super cheap donuts served 24 hours a day! Donuts are generally fresh and delicious. Milkshakes are also very good here. Cash only place, but they have an atm.
Best donuts in town, I recommend this ferrels off mission but not the others in town such as the one off ocean st. 24 hours open
Cool place, big donuts, cheap donuts, friendly staff, nice seating, large selection.
Great service the girl did a great job being by herself it was very busy .. I was impressed with her multi tasking very friendly I forget her name but she was sweet ...
Come check out the Mission Street location with its new signage and branding. Sadly, gone are the tubs of Marianne’s ice cream but the delicious donuts remain. Word on the street is breakfast sandwiches or something new is coming. Stay tuned and stop by. Parking available and, unlike other locations, cards accepted.
Large donut place open 24 hrs! We went after 2pm so limited selection left. We taste tested the mini glazed cronut holes, which are like crack = too addicting as they are loaded with sweetness! Bought the large raspberry filled glazed donuts and found them to be delicious, light, fresh and not cloyingly sweet either! They're pretty big too, were $3.75 ea which are a bit on the pricier side but worth it if you don't gorge on them often. They had humongous donuts/pastries which don't look healthy for single human's consumption but to ea their own. We'll still get our Safeway donut dozen as they're pretty good too but when in Santa Cruz definitely will be visiting Ferrell's. Young lady at the counter was lovely and very sweet!
Quite possibly the best glazed donut I’ve ever had! Great hint of vanilla and the dough had a slightly bready texture. So soft and chewy. The cronuts are also not to be missed. Great place!
Great selection of donuts throughout the day. The gentleman working the counter was kind, welcoming and helpful.
Delicious donuts, lots of choice, great coffee and sit in option available. Simple but loved our visit! Best to ask the cashier on flavors so you don't miss out on one you'd like to try!
Well, it's a donut shop. Sometimes, I can't get the donuts I want, because some of those other pesky customers get to them before I do. I particularly like the crullers and also the berry and cream cheese croissants.
Lost in time. I like how keep the place looking classic 80's or 90's. Clean tables. This donut shop is so big inside. It has over 10 tables. They make yummy warm sugary donuts that taste like they just came right out of the oven. I go here for their great decaf large coffee for $1.95 all the time. Its Better than McDonald's dollar coffee and I don't get a headache. They play upbeat music of today's hits and it's a great way to pump up your morning. I really like the strawberry and cream croissant. Flakey to perfection and full of sweet jam and smooth cream bursting with flavor. Do I want Seconds? Yes !!
Best donuts 🍩 that I've seen and tried around Santa Cruz. Definitely stop by for a half-dozen or a dozen. They also have a bigger box, a two dozen if needed. Get them fresh in the morning. I will recommend they are extra puffy compared to others👌 ★★★★★
It has been many years since we have been into Ferrell's & my man & I were so excited to see the new space...huge glass display cases, drink coolers, a very cool apparel line seating & plenty of room for a big crowd of hungry Ferrell's lovers! 24/7 open, friendly, CLEAN, brightly lit & smells sooo good! Ya gotta get some! :) A Santa Cruz CA - "MUST GO HERE!!" PLACE!
Ive passed by this donut shop many times but never ate there until today. The service is what stood out to me the most. The gal with blue eyes offered to give my donut and bagel for free because my card wasn't working and they didn't have change to break my bill. I was able to break my bill at the store next door and payed for my food . The cashier working around 10am on Dec 8 2021, you rock and many blessings to you and the business! P.s donut and bagel were delicious as well!
Aubrey was super nice and professional oh yeah the food was really good too. But I liked Aubrey more than the food 😉
Please do not buy any of the custard doughnuts here! They are all for me and I love them. So please stay away from the custard ones. The old fashioned ones are amazing as well. There really isn't any doughnuts there that I don't like lol. Great service. Gotta get security and all the roaches and rats that hang about outta there. It's not cool for business and we definitely don't want them near my custard doughnuts!
Jelly donuts, old-fashioned donuts, maple bars, croissants, and more! Delicious donuts, good coffee, and they're open 24/7! Friendly, low-key staff and fun environment. They have a shelf with stuffed animals. Do not go here if you want a salad--it's all about the carbs. The lighting is really good if you want to read or knit, too.
I was impressed by how much the place at livened up since I attended college in the area. Everything was cleaner, the staff was super friendly, and the donuts were just as good, though they were a bit more expensive then when I was a college student.
Excellent donuts. Bought a dozen regular - some raised, some cake and they were all excellent. Fresh, soft, not too dense. Very good! Old school donut shop - exactly what I want in my donuts!
Ferrell’s has been a staple of Santa Cruz since before I moved here in 72, famous for their wheat doughnuts, but I have to say their apple fritters are the bomb, I have tasted many of these in other shops but these apple fritters are the sweetest most crunchy ones ever!
Doughnuts were very good. Definitively the best live had in a while! We came in at 7pm, there was still a large choice, took home 2 raspberry filled and 2 glazed: they tasted fresh (no old oil taste!), the raspberry jam was delicious too! Service was super friendly and efficient! I definitively recommend and will go back!

Great donuts, and the only place in the bay area other than Krispy Kreme that I've found that offers a Boston Cream filled donut! The price was still somewhat reasonable where other donut shops in the area have increased considerably.
Great donuts and reasonably priced too! Can't say much more as we just popped in, picked them up, and left! Good to know they're open 24 hours though for a late night snack!
Great doughnuts! I wish they would stay open later. In the evening you have Ocean st Ferrell's which is garbage in comparison. Go back to 24hrs and I give 5 stars.
I like the donuts they are large. I wish the small donuts were cheaper. I don't like the minimum $3.00 requirement to use a card.
Down-home kind of experience. We were driving route 1 and needed breakfast, donuts and coffee fit the bill. The donuts were fairly priced especially the larger filed ones and the coffee was fresh. The service was prompt and friendly. Is a good alternative to the coffee and donut chains.
Ferrell's is a community icon as it has been in Santa Cruz for many decades. The donuts are high quality and the selection is diverse. As far as donut shops go, it is a big place with plenty of seating. Parking is easy, however, there are almost always people loitering in the parking lot. Most of these people seem harmless, but I strongly suggest that you bring all valuables inside and lock your car doors. Other than the loitering problem, Ferrell's is a great donut shop and I go there frequently.
Quirky decor - many toys. Good donuts. Fun staff. Easy to park. Good nosy spot to observe Mission Street. Someone was having a kid's birthday party there when I visited. Classic Americana donut joint.
What's not to like? Delicious donuts, coffee, ice cream, really any dessert or pastry you could desire at any time of day or night! Friendly staff and chill environment to relax. Only downside is it's cash only (why I'm giving it 4 stars, not 5) so don't forget that. Jelly donut and maple are my favorites!
Stopped by here in a whim. Good thing I did. Good selection of donuts. Got a maple old fashioned. Yum. Wife got some marrianes ice cream. We both left very happy. Very friendly service
Delicious donuts, just don't ask too many questions, the kid that works there always seems on edge, lol. Other than that they have a really great selection of donuts.
I was looking for a coffee shop with breakfast pastries when I saw this little house of sin. It was what you'd expect I suppose. Not my favorite donut shop, not the best coffee, but good donuts. Plenty of seating. Decent amount of options. Maybe I'm easy to please. Nah.
The biggest and softest Donuts in town! This place is a family favorite. We also really enjoy their croissants. The only very slight downside is they don't have lemon-filled, and they tend to be less covid cautious. Their employees have not been wearing masks for a very long time.
Solid food, good donuts nothing crazy. Coffee also very good for its price. Thank you to the kind Staff !

Great donut chain. Would love to see this location allow customers to use the restroom.

Not to be underestimated this old school building is filled with love for doughnuts. I tried their ham and cheese croissant (very good in a fast food way) regular coffee (good coffee w/ no refills allowed) and plain cake doughnut (wanted to establish the baseline of quality without all the sticky sweets.) The plain cake doughnut had a deep fried outer edge and moist interior with a hint of coconut oil. Overall I rate this doughnut shop high marks for food quality, in-store seating/dining and 24/7 business hours however they receive low marks for not allowing their customers use of a restroom. 3 stars.
Donuts sometimes are not the freshest, especially in the afternoons
Very underwhelming despite all the hype. My 3 donuts were all a bit stale. The employee apologized for being distracted in the back for a few minutes leaving the front and his three customers waiting for service. I will not be back
Stopped in on our way through town at the end of a long day of being in the car. When I walked in, the young man walked up and just kind of stood there looking at me. I asked for a dozen and he said OK, but the first one I picked he said that's not included in the dozen, so I picked another, also not included. So I finally said can you tell me what IS included? He finally said the bottom two rows were. Every question I asked seemed like an inconvenience, short quick answers with no substance. He was so blasé the entire time, like he'd rather be anywhere else in the world doing anything else than helping customers. The donuts were amazing, fluffy, tasty, yum.... But the service left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Great coffee and donut selection! But their shop is closed at random days or times contradicts their sign Open 24 Daily. Tried taking family and friends there a few times during the day to find out they were closed kind of disappointing. Was also denied service for forgetting my mask and I’m vaccinated even after (CDC and Santa Cruz County had lifted Mask Mandates). Probably won’t be taking my business there for awhile until they get it together.
I came here because I heard this was a great donut shop. I must have come in an off night. The donuts my girlfriend and I got were disgusting. They were undercooked and had the consistency of being made out of cake batter. It didn't help that there were some odd looking patrons that I wasn't comfortable around. I had half a mind to return the donuts since neither of us could finish they were so bad, but it wasn't worth the few dollars.
This morning I woke up a bit earlier than, so I looked around to see who offered bagels at this time of morning. After a little research found Ferrell's donuts was open and offered breakfast bagels, so I drove down get me one. Unfortunately I asked the employee if they were serving bagels yet and she replied, No..then I asked what time they start and her reply was, "it depends" finally stating they don't have bagels, I asked why not and she mentioned they don't always have them. I was pretty disappointed seeing as it clearly advertises them on the website.
This pace deserve a a negative 1 bit I can't, my wife and I got cinnamon rolls and ham and cheese danishes. There was plastic in the Danish and the cinnamon roll was not cooked it was completely raw in the middle. Was super dirty inside, I thought I was going to catch a staff infection in there.
Update: This is a veteran hostile, imagined class exclusive, and a personal place of private association open 24/7. Not a publicly serving, nor benefiting business. In my considered life evaluation as a professional expert upon delivery of customer service, community engagement and support, and above all, A DEDICATED ADHERANT TOTHE SAFETY OF ALL LIVING HUMANS. To include the aggressively hostile, or violent. It is my duty to be able, as I may, resist such aggression with equal, if not exact projected will, else allow suffering to increase in the world through such tyrannical lopsided power differentials. If the police cannot provide an equal weapon to every registered citizen it contends to 'serve', then the differential is a leading Indicator for the potential for a misunderstanding of natural law to possibly strengthen the false notion that there is any human without value unequivocally demonstrabke in their living existance. To understand that ANY OTHER HUMAN, whether by word, deed, output, projection, or defense against, can ever be breathing yet also be devoid of value is not a statement of that person's degraded or depraved state. The person or persons whom believe any system exists that confers right to permanently end the continued life of another is THE LEADING INDICATOR of a human who has yet to attain maturity. They should not, therefore, as a matter of collective safety, be in a position designated exclusively to be held by a demonstrable, observable, testable, mature human adult. This is a collective and subjective SAFETY ISSUE. As I may, I will continue this Public Service Announcement as it is correlated in natural processes, logic, nature so stridently as to be considered 'law' , as well as adhering to the core principles which may be found in clear, critical analysis of religious concepts, and from those core concepts, the entire religious expression demonstrated to be consistent. The bonus output of such an exercise is to sort clearly human, fear based intention from all others. I stopped by to notify them that some of my fellow veterans recieved the report of my treatment at this PRIVATE PROPERTY called Farrels that maintains an EXCLUSIVE CLIENTELE CONSISTING OF, from my observations in the short time I spent happily spending $55 dollars here on sugary confections and backroom speculations, and might attempt to reach out and see if they could determine what the challenges were, as well as attempt to establish a dialogue. I got yelled at again and threatened. So much for talking anything out. From the scuttlebutt, they generally don't actually like customers. Enough to make a person wonder what is really hiding in the back behind all those donuts, perhaps Wonka and a small indentured servant troupe?
hands down the worst cup of drip coffee ive ever had. so incredibly watered down (and refills are not allowed!). truly what is up with that. everything here is so expensive and the money is clearly not going back into the business
I love starting my morning out with the worlds lamest cup of coffee for $4! But seriously the coffee sucks the donuts are ok at best, but way over priced. The Staff was friendly, atmosphere is cold and stale. Never coming back haha.
