Opinions de Hong Kong Santa Quiteria
Walked in and was quickly seated. The server was a very nice young man and got my drink order right away. I had time to browse the menu and there are a lot of great options and the prices are very reasonable. I decided on the 6 pan-fried dumplings (~$5) and the "combo" (I think it was called) where you pick a side, meat, and a vegetable ($8.75). I decided on fried noodles, General Tao chicken, and broccoli. It was delicious :) My water was refilled consistently. The 6 pan-fried dumplings were a bit of a disappointment as the wrapper/dough was very thick and it reminded me of a pierogi, but the taste was good regardless. I definitely will go back again and I'm going to order the pad thai! The restaurant appeared very clean and it was spacious and well lit. If you're around the area, I'd definitely make a point to try it - especially uOttawa students
Would eat here every day if I could. Portions of food are great value for its price. Reasonable wait time. Clean environment. Nice setting for people of all ages. Location conveniently downtown. One small issue is having to ask the front desk to unlock the washroom (because they only want customers accessing it, which is understandable I guess).
Great food, large portions (especially on the combos). Came in for a sit down lunch and was very impressed by the quality of the food and the size of portions of the combos. I had the bbq pork pineapple rice and it was absolutely delicious! My sister had the general Tao combo and we were both surprised by the amount of food that included. Definitely will visit again.
Food is delicious! Great portions. I keep coming back for more. I highly recommend the Stir Fried Beef Rice Noodles (乾炒牛河), 41A Chili Chicken, and Braised Eggplant & Tofu. Interior has some seating space for dine in. They also sell some unique Asian snacks & grocery items. Take out is good too.
Such a hidden gem, I can’t believe it took me this long to go here! Their $10 combo is such a good deal. You have the option between white rice, fried rice or noodles, and then broccoli or braised tofu eggplant. Then you have a bunch of protein dishes to choose from. Very huge portions. Staff was friendly and there are plenty of seating.
I ordered the Yueng Chow Fried Rice, Sesame Crispy Beer, General Tao's Chicken, Sweet and Sour chicken, Stir Fried Sliced Beef with Udon, Pan Fried Dumplings, and two egg rolls. Items arrived perfectly packed in reusable plastic containers. Orders always arrive in a tomely manner. I highly recommend if you're in the downtown core. Good value for food.
We had lunch here during a day tour in Ottawa and we ordered Pineapple fried rice and BBQ chicken (with rice). Initially I was sceptical about Asian food in a western city but the food is really fantastic, especially the Pineapple fried rice. The steaming fried rice served in a pineapple-carved bowl taste really good and is among the best pineapple fried rice we had. The BBQ chicken was pretty tasty as well (though it doesn't look very good), the chicken is tender and sweetly marinated.
One of THE best places for egg rolls in Ottawa! Best in ByWard Market for sure! Great service, easy to order over the phone and ready very quickly! Wonton soup with noodles was absolutely amazing as well! Definitely recommend and will go again
We came on Christmas Day and I am grateful that this place was open. We ordered 4 things( fried rice with chicken, black pepper chicken, Tao chicken and pineapple fried rice) with lichi martini, honey with green tea cold and real lemon ice tea.. the food looked amazing and was even more delicious. I really recommend this place to everyone who wants to enjoy a variety of Asian food.
Every time I come to Hong Kong Express, I come away extremely impressed by the quality and value. It's unquestionably the best Chinese-Canadian food in Ottawa. The General Tao and Crispy Beef dishes are excellent, with fresh crisp vegetables on the side with wonderful noodles. Worth going out of your way for take-out or dine-in!
This food always makes me happy its so delicious! General Tao is one of the best I ever had. They also have a cool snack/ gtocery section that carries cool stuff like seaweed Lays etc.
No rip-offs, great value for amazing food. Most menu items are below 10 dollars and service is extremely quick. If you are aiming for more proper, cantonese and chinese food, this is the place to go. More authentic and less about american-chinese dishes. As a Hong Konger, I truly recommend this place.
I have to say that this is not the fanciest place I've ever been too, but the food is really good. The specials are great value for money. I'm surprised to see such a concept, a grocery store and a eat in restaurant at the same time. Nicely done. They have selections in their grocery store that I have a hard time finding in Toronto.
Food and service was great! The hot and sour soup was really great!
Ordered on Uber eats...delivered by bike in under 30 minutes on a Friday at 8pm (we live in Sandy Hill) General Tao chicken was amazing...so fresh and crispy!! Beef broccoli had tons of beef and super fresh broccoli. Overall a fantastic meal.
Nice variety on the menu. The food is well-prepared, and you don't leave with a greasy feeling. Genuine Chinese offerings. Service is nice. The premises are clean and well laid out. Prices reasonable. Had their wonton noodles and braised beef with rice. Very nice. Eggrolls are crispy and full of fillings. Will definitely return.
Great place for a quick bite or a full meal, good prices. The food is delicious and fills you up. Always clean, great service. They're open late so it's very convenient. I recommend this place to anyone looking to explore the different restaurants in downtown Ottawa.
The Chinese food is scrumptious. Highly recommend ordering the general tao. It's one of the best I've ever had in the city!! Not only is the food high-quality. There's also a little confidence store inside full of imported snacks, juice & pop that's so yummy! Staff are really nice too! 😁😁
Great food cooked freshly for you on the spot . If you'd like things spicier you just have to ask. The combo plates are under nine dollars +tax and you get a meat and a vegetable and either fried noodle or fried rice or steamed rice . They're hot and sour soup was nice and spicy under $3 and we had their spring rolls which were nice and crispy and tasty. The place is very big and clean and comfortable there is free Wi-Fi as well as the washrooms are immaculate . For a place that's downtown that's quite impressive. It's located across the street from the metro perfect location to get some decent food . They also have some Chinese slushy type drinks which would be a nice summer treat . Everything is reasonably priced . The only negative comment would be for those who eat in the food is on a paper plate with plastic cutlery but that probably means they don't have to do as many dishes in the back .
I've been to a lot of Chinese restaurants in Ottawa and so far this is the best one! Prices are great, food is awesome, and the portions are huge! If anyone is hungry for Chinese, this is definitely the spot to go to (the mango slushies are fire 🔥).
Tasty Asian dishes at very reasonable prices. Large family size portions perfect for sharing. A variety of meat, veg, seafood and rice and noodle dishes to choose from. Certainly worth the trip to downtown Ottawa.
Everything perfect. Portions are very big. Will definitely come again to try the new menu items. It's a must!
never had a bad experience here, the combos are filling and less than $20 and they usually can accommodate some special requests ! very nice shop too
Serves delicious food. They offer a wide variety of dishes. There's also an Asian Mart attached to it. Lots of asian noodles variety and drinks and snacks. Fav place in downtown.
What an amazing find!!!! We were visiting Ottawa and came across this place, right beside the Rideau Residence. The place does not offer a lot of seating but they made sure we were comfortably seated for a party of 14. The food!!! I expected westernized Hong Kong cuisine but happily surprised over the authentic taste of it all!!! Will definitely find a reason to come back!!! Thank you!
I had the pleasure of trying the black pepper beef with fried rice and general tao chicken with steamed rice from Hong Kong Express. I am impressed how delicious and flavourful the food is, notably the fried rice and black pepper beef which was tender and served with fresh vegetables. Egg rolls were also very good. Food order was placed through Skip the dish. I look forward to ordering from here again!
Quite a loyal customer to this establishment. Good portions with the meals and spice level can be adjusted. Quite pleased with a wonton noodle soup order as their container keeps the noodle separate just above the bowl so it does not get too soggy. Great value for the money.
I’m a regular at this restaurant and I am in love with their new menu! It’s delicious and always fresh. It’s a must and I highly recommend it to everyone!
全新menu! 非常港式美食! 價錢相宜!份量大! 侍應姐姐非常友善!
So happy to see a HK style cuisine in Ottawa. It also has a Asian mart selling my favorite HK snacks.
I went there with my family for the first time. One of the best asian restaurants I have ever visited, the staff are super polite and welcoming, the food is so fresh and super tasty and delicious, the portions are huge and the most amazing thing is they have a wide variety of Halal options. I will definitely go there again and again. I highly recommend the place
We had lunch there today and everything was just amazing, fresh and full of taste. We liked the idea of having all beef and halal chicken. Staff were very nice and welcoming. Highly recommend and Will definitely come again.
One day I’ll be rich enough to make this my daily lunch: the rice, braised beef curry, and eggplant tofu. Until then, my expression tells the story. I always get takeout from here 😭❤️ Way too good
Fantastic food, very delicious, the first time we meet Halal Chinese food in Ottawa, it is really amazing, tasty and impressive. We order curry fish ball, cumin lamb, pepper beef, house fried rice and green beans, we emptied all the plates, it's so so good! Hundred percent will come back and recommend all the Halal people come to try! And all so the bubble tea is excellent and good price! It's really a nice place!
This is my go-to spot for Hong Kong food. We have visited several times. Highly recommend these dishes; - #123 fried flat rice noodles with halal beef and bean sprouts, nice wok hei - #36 lamb with cumin: crispy tender lamb. I actually prefer this cumin lamb dish over the one offered at the Kanata restaurant called Harbin because of how crispy and vibrant this one is :) - Smashed lemon tea (beware of seeds). This drink is always good and fresh. Not too sweet either. - curry fish balls (comes with 6) are good. The curry is so tasty and peppery. - #8 pan fried buns were tasty and slightly crispy Friendly and sweet service, they helped answer questions I had about allergens and are consistently pleasant. It’s well worth the short walk from Rideau for good Hong Kong cuisine. Wait time for a table on a Saturday evening was less than 2 mins. If I’m in a rush, I just go up to the counter to order instead of waiting at my table because there’s often only 1 person working. It’s a cozy spot close to Rideau with the best Hong Kong food in the area for decent prices. I think their bean sprouts noodles (gong chau ngau ho 乾炒牛河) rival the ones offered on Merivale ;) Highly recommend these dishes; - #123 fried flat rice noodles with halal beef and bean sprouts, nice wok hei - #36 lamb with cumin: crispy tender lamb. Theres a small atrium some use to park their bicycles.

I wish I could give them a million stars for chilli chicken and rice. Omg I got addicted to it and I crave it at mid night. Please open your store for longer hours. You close at 9 which is so unfair. I live in Orléans and just go to pick up my food there, so amazing but hate the hours.

Good beef rice noodles. (#79)Lots of bean sprouts and obviously not as good as the popular Cantonese restaurants in Chinatown or on Merivale but still has that wok hei. The noodles could have been chewier. The meat was tender and there was good amount of beef. Not too greasy either. #18 beef brisket noodle soup was a large portion but mostly tendon than brisket. Soup was tasty but probably wouldn’t recommend. The Hong Kong lemon tea is tart and sweet but not too sweet. Just right and a good size. The women’s bathroom is spacious and nice. Has a changing table. The grocery store has frozen food and snacks.
Went here for lunch today. I craved Cantonese food for a while so I gave this place a try. I ordered the Hainanese chicken rice and the stir fried beef rice noodle. Can't say It's 100% authentic Cantonese/Hongkong cuisine ( most "chinese" restaurants in Ottawa are not really authentic anyway....) but it's not bad overall. Not enough "Wok-hey" for the stir fried beef rice noodle. I also wonder if they put some MSG into the dishes too since my mouth felt dry after finishing the dish.. That being said, I'd still give them a 4/5 because the portion is really huge for the price you paid! Simply cannot complain too much.. Update: second time visiting here and I like it even more after trying all the "Cantonese /HK food" in the Ottawa china town... They have the best HK style Milk tea in Ottawa imo. Way better than Cafe Orient's flavourless milk tea. The beef brisket fried rice meal I ordered is also yummy and portion is huge as usual. And it's only for 12.25! B I raised the rating from 4 to 5. Doesn't necessarily mean it's great but it may be the best HK style food in Ottawa I tried so far. Update: they raised prices again and I find their food even more oily now ... Really not healthy! Lowered rating to 4/5.
Pour les amateurs de produits asiatiques, c’est la place à Ottawa! La caissière était super agréable et souriante. Nous avons dévalisé les boissons et soupes. Nous reviendrons par ici à notre retour à la capitale.
Great value. Tasty and generous portions. The combos are great. BBQ Chicken, Fried Rice, Yeung Chow are my top 3.
Typical Chinese American cuisine done extremely well and fresh to order. Definitely recommend if you're in the mood for takeout on a Friday or weekend. Order through the store, prices are higher on Uber Eats and other online locations.
I would say it is good for having a quick lunch or dinner. Combos are good options. They are something you can get in a normal restaurant in HK or other cities in China. You can also shop a variety of snacks and many other food products from China, Korean and Japan.
Great Chinese food here , reminds me of when I lived in the Yukon . The food is great , don't have to worry about not having enough food here . I do recommend people to eat here
First time there and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Food was amazing and delicious, the broccoli could have just been cooked a little more. The price we paid for the amount we got was also great, as it was a lot of good food! My only complaint is that their bubble tea wasn’t very good.
I only come here for the beef and broccoli and it's delicious every time. I do like to look through the little shop while I wait too.
I'm giving this 4 stars because I order here a lot and normally I'm very happy with my food. However today I ordered the general tao chicken and was very disappointed. The chicken was fried but there was no sauce on it at all. I had to go make my own sauce since it just tasted like chicken and oil. Disappointed because I ordered it through a delivery app so it was extra pricey today, but I was confident that it would at least be a meal I enjoyed. I do still think everyone should give this place a chance though, most of the time I'm very happy with my meals.
It is a takeout counter? Is it a small grocery store? Is it a restaurant? Yes, and all three of those overlap in a very chaotic and rather messy setting. Egg rolls, hot and sour soup and chicken pad Thai were all very delicious and tasted 5 star for Asian fast food. Minus one star for handing me a hot and sour soup at the takeout counter, that was cold and spicy.
Pretty good. Got the dinner portion of chili chicken, which has very good depth of flavour and a generous portion. Interesting use of deep fried noodles, thick noodles, in there, at least I think that's what the crispy crouton like items were. Hot but not searing and the accompanying rice (which, this being Canada, is not gratis and this drives me absolutely bonkers about nearly every Asian resto in this country, coast to coast: rice costs extra, which is like paying extra for a bun at a burger place or for pasta at an Italian restaurant) was expertly cooked. Solid first meal on this trip to Ottawa.
Good food and moderately priced. Ambiance doesn't match expectations of fine dining insomuch as despite the quality of table and chairs the space is far from intimate and more like a brightly lit cafeteria. If looking for delicious food they deliver on that but if looking for intimate fine dining they are a miss I give more weight for the food.
I went for the first time with some friends and I really enjoyed eating here. The food is tasty and well prepared; it is served in large quantities so with a large group it is easy to share. The service was friendly. I feel like the cuisine was also much closer to a proper Chinese cuisine than a typical Canadianzied Chinese restuarant. I recommend trying it out for sure and look forward to eating there again myself.
Been here a couple of times. Three of us dinning. Nice soup for a buck more if you order a regular fish. Food is done right HK style although they did forget the cashews on my cashew chicken dish 🙂. Beef and onion fish was very nice. Nice selection of grocery items including Japanese drinks. Men's washroom is clean but you need to push on the door to get in as it appears locked. Needs a sign to say that.
The food was fresh and delicious; it was the best Singapore noodles I have EVER had. They also have a great selection. But unfortunately half of our order was missing. A huge misstep since we spent over $100. I should note that I have been to their grocery store before and I enjoyed it. It’s worth checking out.
Food is decent Ottawa quality asian food but not comparable to places like Toronto/Vancouver (would be a 6/10 in comparison). I typically order the same dish and find that there are slight consistency issues with their food quality. Sometimes, the rice is dry and old, sauce is extra salty, small meat portion size, etc. Some of these issues are non-trivial/deal breakers imo like dry old rice. Negligible cost to provide fresh rice but profound experience difference. Quick service though
Good portion reasonable price. Must get the $1 soup with your dish. It was really flavourful. We had pork rib soup. The combination dish $13.99 and $14.49 were great option. The fried rice and fried noodle had wok hei! Seems like things are made to order so sometimes it can take some time. But I feel it is worth it.

An Asian approving Asian food is as good as the compliments it gets. Sweet Sour Chicken, Beef with onion and scallion and tofu with egg plant were all winners. Service was fast and staffs were friendly!

HK style stir fry restaurant with dine in and take out options. Dine in only seats only about 20 people. They also have a small market for Asian dry goods. Good value, combos available. Good service as they juggle between take out and dine in. Food wise it's not super truly authentic HK (I'm from HK) but it's not bad. You do get some dishes catering to western friends. But if you're looking for real wok-hei stir-fry, not quite here. But good valued meal.
The place is very pleasant. It has the relaxed, casual style of a fast food place (long with the pictorial menus over the counter), but the tables are comfortable and there is full table service as well as take-out. On this visit, my server was a very pleasant young lady who was quick and efficient. The two snacks I had were very decent for the price.
I used eat here often lot but the quality has become pretty inconsistent lately. In general the price is pretty good for what you get, depending on what you order. The general tao chicken is the only thing that has been consistently great here, even the fried rice and noodles have started to be very hit and miss with how they are cooked and seasoned. The braised beef and bbq pork are usually good. Don't get the grilled fish, it was GROSS and had a gelatinous consistency.
Just stopped by here for the first time. The staff are friendly, however a bit disorganized. I ordered a bubble tea, which is cheaper than most places, however the price seems to reflect the quality. My drink came hot, and they reopened it to put more ice but it didn’t really help. The tapioca was well cooked, but the tea itself didn’t have as much of a flavouring as it should. They seemed to have forgot about my soup until i awkwardly asked about it, and i agree, they should have real cutlery and plates for people who eat in-store.
I found I really like the food here I tried the yesterday, had some really awesome flavours. I found the amount for the price is good too. The lady behind the counter wasn’t very friendly at all and my chicken was pretty overdone. I would still return though, especially to buy from the market.
Wasn't clean under the tables, floor, table sticky... Food was fresh, meat was tasty and it was an ok taste for what I ordered. I also orders some fried chicken and I didn't know it didn't come with a sauce...I wish she would have tried to give some info, since I told her it's my first time ordering. Any way...Not impressed.
I’ve ordered from here many times and this will be my last order. My main issue is that the sweet and sour chicken balls are virtually inedible. I’m pretty sure they were leftover and deep fried a second time. This has happened SEVERAL times. Also, the chow mein is extremely oily. Like gross soybean oil running off when you eat it. The fried rice is good as well as sweet and sour chicken (peppers, onions, etc.).

I bought the mango bubble tea there. The taste was not too good. Before trying it however, the cup spilled on me. The straw material they gave it with was bad thus when I tried making a whole in the lid it broke and half of it spilled on my brand new coat. I went back and they game me a new one. A warning would have been nice about the straw situation.
Read edit below from 4* to 2* I've enjoyed my meals there, some co-workers mentioned sometimes not getting enough or any sauces bit eating there, I've always had a good experience. Edit: 3 people together, all served at different times, after waiting for people who showed up 20 minutes after us to get served. My friend got his soup and I got my started when he hadn't gotten his, the same thing, so I gave mine to him. When the next one can, I took it and asked about my plate and was asked if I meant an empty plate, so I had to reordered...15 minutes later, when I had 13 minutes left to my lunch HOUR I asked again and got in in 5 minutes after having to repeat my order. When I got it a friend showed up and got her to go order as I was leaving as all counter orders were flying out. I Was of course late to work.
I like this restaurant. I have dined in and ordered ubereats. Today, I was left quite disappointed by my order. The wonton noodle soup did not contain any wonton. The pan fried dumplings were greasy. Maybe they changed staff bc it was not like this before.
The food is average , okay for the price. The grocery story is average , high for its price. The staff can be inconsiderate at times. When I picked up 2 things from the grocery store, they did not offer me a bag to carry the items just so they could save on bags. When I saved some food they gave me the smallest takeout bag and didn’t even pack it themselves. Staff needs to work on this behaviour and stop being cheap. Customers pay good money for you not to scam them more.
Got the general tao combo 1. Felt the chicken was very dry and so was the fried rice. Very little sauce too.
I was shocked tonight to order food...it taste like left over from fridge...chicken dry & taste like fish...I ate inside restaurant before...the food was great & fresh & amazing ...but today my daughter order it for me...its repulsive...I shocked...never expected something so bad.. If I had a car I would return this mess
Food here in Hong Kong Express is alright, not the service. I opted in for dining-in and was informed at the cash-counter this: "If you would like to dine-in, you would have to give a tip between 10-15%". I understand that this sort of restaurants may pay minimum wage and in some cases below minimum wage (which is illegal). From my understanding, tipping is customary and should completely depend on the customers' will. A restaurant can not compel a customer to give them tips. What they did is illegal and shameful practice.
Vegetarians beware: I ordered a dish from the "Tofu and Vegetable" section of the menu, called "67. Braised Eggplant and Tofu: Simmered tofu and eggplant." Despite no meat included in the description, it came with big, greasy chunks of pork. I tried to find contact info to let the restaurant know, but there's nothing on their website and they don't have any social media. Very disappointing and I won't order from them again.
I understand restaurants have bathrooms for paying customers. But when a father comes in with his little daughter that needs the bathroom desperately, and to get turned away. What's wrong with humanity. Not impressed with the service. Don't seem to want to be hear. Have you ever heard of a smile. Foods good tho.
My mom and I came in to order 2 lunch time rice dishes and ordered a drink and tapioca dessert and the whole experience is terrible. Customer service was unwelcoming and very unhappy responses. The tapioca dessert said with coconut milk and when it came it tasted pure evaporated milk and no coconut milk in it as it is just yellow in color. I asked the waitress she said that's how I make it. Thankfully I didn't have any dairy allergy. Another server then came to ask if we needed to order half hour later. Me and my mom worried if our order was even rung in so I had asked and she said yes. Waited 45mins and 2 customers came in ordered beside us. We had no idea but they got their food so we asked how come they got their food. The server said because we ordered a slush and dessert(separate from the kitchen) it takes longer. How does that make any sense. So you are staying if the drink and dessert(usually come after meal) that we wouldn't get our food? Do not recommend here period. Terrible terrible experience.
I don't care for the food that's almost below average. I continue to visit the store for the snacks that are mostly Expired Items (Expired date: August/September 2021). I've raised their attention to the issue and all I've gotten is to be monitored and suspicious looks from the manager. They took my phone number but never heard from them. Expired items! Who knows what they're doing to the food?! Beware!!
Had ordered General Tsao Chicken with noodles and vegetables. The second plate was sweet n sour chicken with noodles and vegetables. I had dropped in and ordered in the shop. Major renovation is ongoing. I waited about ten minutes for the food. I requested additional paper plates and napkins, which was gladly given. The quantity was quite good. But the chicken was hard and coated with flour. Very little meat. I tasted my wife’s chicken. Exactly the same. Burnt noodles and beans sprouts. Only broccoli. No carrots or any other vegetables. No spring onions. No garnishing. Soggy noodles with water at the bottom. I am not returning back here. Enjoy your next visit at the place. :-(
Ordered egg rolls and spring rolls through delivery. Didn't get any plum sauce whatsoever, even though I explicitly asked for it, in several different notes sections in the Uber eats app Oh, and the fried rice had a large egg shell in it?? Definitely won't order again
Tried this place twice 1st time I got the beef chow mein and it was ok I'd give it 3 stars but tonight I tried the chicken chow mein and JUST SALT! It tasted like someone spilt the salt container and mixed it in to hide their mistake almost 20$ down the drain
Every rude, there food was over/under cooked. First time going there and the very last time going there. Their food tastes like it comes from a microwave. Took them 5 minutes to put out our food but took 15min for them to give us 2 cokes. No gloves no hair nets place is gross!
Would give 0 stars if I could. I've just spent over 100$ for burnt food with no sauces. My general tsao chicken was crunchy, burnt and dry, my chicken balls were burnt with no sauce, and my chow mein wasn't cooked.
Ordered fried rice with chicken on the uber eats app and I regret it. Not everyone like sugar in their chicken and this restaurant could not specify that. I feel like I threw away money.
Waited over 35mins for 2 items - chicken with pineapple and rice. Over $30. They refused to refund and just kept telling Me to wait 2 mins more, 3mins More….
I’m sure they served me leftovers. Hot and sour soup tasted like it came right out of the fridge. It was super cold. I had to ask them to heat it up. Worse, the general tao chicken was hard as a rock. Not fresh at all. I couldn’t even get my fork through it. I took one bite of the broccoli and it was cold too. I’m not a picky eater but this meal was horrible. I had to go across the street and buy some samosas at the grocery store to eat some decent food. First time I ever wrote a review like this. I felt obligated to warn the neighbourhood.
