My first time eating there was today. I got a fish fry and onion rings. The batter they use is outstanding. I look forward to eating everything on the menu. I will deffenetly be back soon.

We always go to Anker's Fish House. Friendly service and delicious fish. I had the scallop dinner and they were very fresh and cooked to perfection. Onion rings are excellent. Good homemade salads too. Highly recommend this place. They DO NOT take credit cards.

Delicious fish and great cold salads. I especially love the great desserts they offer. The owners are real nice people and very accommodating to whatever you want to eat. Glad for them that the restaurant is a great success.

They do a great job on practically every dish that they prepare. They take nothing for granted. Even their side dish offerings are taken seriously and prepared to stand out on their own. I love the baked bean recipe. My mom was a huge fan of the bread pudding.

They have a diverse seafood me u - not just fried fish. They have dinners and sandwiches as well as some yummy desserts! The interior was redecorated recently making it much nicer. We had the fish sandwiches and salads with a slice of cake. Wonderful!

Ankers is just as awesome as it was 30 years ago, when you had to stand outside in line because it was such a tiny building, but we waited. It was worth the line waiting, but now when you call ahead by 10 minutes even, my order is usually done when I arrive. No waiting! Food is still the same and delicious. They didn't change the quality at all.

This is my favorite fish fry place. Used to go here all the time when we lived around it. Now we only get there every so often. It has Very good food their fish fries and everything are awesome. Glad they’re still around after all this time. I’d hate to have to go anywhere else. Love this place.

By far the best fish anywhere, I could say the salads are like homemade but I'd be lying. They are better. The Macaroni, Potato salads and cole slaw are the absolute best. The deserts are excellent and my wife is addicted to the tapioca pudding. French fries ordinary old fashion style but onion rings are great. Only issue is the lines at peak times.Really, I have been going there for years and have never been disappointed. AND I AM NO WAY CONNECTED TO ANCHORS EXCEPT AS A GRATEFUL CUSTOMER.

The best fish fry from here to Oklahoma to South Africa. I haven't been back since the remodel but I'm going today and I can't wait. Walking in the door, you immediately take in that delicious smell. From the other reviews I've read, the fish fry is just as good as it's always been. I literally grew up eating the fried blue fish and to this day not only is it my favorite fish but also Anker's is my favorite place to get it. Even after moving to Oklahoma, I would crave that delicious fried fish. When I would come back for a visit, I would make sure to stop in on my last day here and buy a few pounds to take back with me. My ex-husband was from South Africa where fish fry's are very popular and even he said, it was the best fried fish (boston blue) he'd ever eaten. So Anker's I give you 5 stars before I even return today and only because I can't give you more!

If you love Seafood definitely go try it there my personal favorite is there shrimp dinner so amazing but I will tell you this they have the best jalapeno poppers in the 518

Anker's has always been a standby for anyone's seafood cravings. My family has visited this eatery for over twenty years and we've never failed to enjoy a tasty and cost effective meal. I started eating at Anker's in my twenties; I'm now over fifty and have introduced my now adult sons to the place. They love it, fish frys, bisque, gumbo... It's all done perfectly!

They have the best scallop rolls and coleslaw you've ever had. Plus the tartar sauce is the best.

I absolutely love everything at Anker's from the food to the great service. There are many options offered here including dessert. They are always busy, but it is so worth the wait to grab a bite to eat! Their lobster rolls are so delicious. Highly recommended!

Over 55 years ago my father and I would get fish here every Friday. It was great then and still great today! My wife and I had fried fish on a bun and German potato salad. The large portions of fish on a bun were excellent and the potato salad was wonderful as was the tartar sauce. Thank you to the owners and staff for keeping the tradition alive!

Anker's Seafood is a restaurant that is not to be missed. the atmosphere is charming and cozy, with beautifully decorated tables and chairs, and a very attentive staff. The food is amazing—we got fried chicken, lobster bisque, clams, fried pickles, and sweet potato fries. Prices were somewhat high, but the quality of the food and the overall atmosphere more than made up for it! If you're nowhere near the shore, this is the place to come for delicious seafood.

I purchased shrimp, scallops, calamari and smelts from Anker's for our Christmas Eve dinner. The fish was excellent. The fish itself was very qood quality - all four kinds of fish were meaty, fresh and top quality. The fish was fried to perfection - not overdone or underdone, not rubbery or tough. The breading was not overly seasoned. The sauces they provide with the fish were excellent. I placed my order before the holiday and the staff was very accomodating. Pickup was easy - the restaurant is well organized and we could pick up our order quickly. I strongly recommend Anker's for fried fish. - it is excellent. We were very pleased.

Finding the best mozzarella sticks in the capital region … Today I have Anker's Fish House I arrivied about a half an hour before close, it was quiet. I was greeted as soon as I opened the door. The restaurant was clean and tidy. I ordered the mozzarella sticks of course With a side pasta salad. Served in about 5-10 mins after ordered. Hottt and def fresh. Let’s jump straight into these sticks.. They were really good. Like really really good. Huge amount of cheese. Perfectly crispy texture but not overly greasy. The breading was different than all the others Iv had before. It was like crispy I’m not sure exactly what goes into their breading. But I like it. Could have used a tad bit more seasoning. But other than that they are def a hit. They didn’t have Melba so I got the marinara. The pasta salad was okay. It was a little too much garlic for me personal liking. I added a little more Italian dressing at home. I liked all the different veggies they use. There was a few things on the menu that caught my eye like the coconut shrimp 🤔 so I think I’ll  definitely be back. They had a space next to the specials board that they allow local business cards. I thought that was awesome. If you’re in the Schenectady area, I highly suggest you check them out. This food is so good always has been since I’ve been going here. and even better after renovations. Staff is great , the owner (which I’m glad to see is back) is also great . Great good vibe when you walk in. Lots of smiling, and great service from the ladies in front. And the cook, (Lanae ) always cooks it just right and it tastes so good…. I’m always getting orders for new people. And it’s a hit!! Sorry for the long review but had to share. Always there at least twice a week.

My son and I took my MIL there for dinner. She hadn’t been in a long time so we decided it would be a nice treat. Anker’s doesn’t disappoint. Everyone had a great meal, and enjoyed sitting out on the deck. If you love coleslaw try theirs IMHO it is one of the best around, and the corn bread is a must get. The staff is always nice and friendly and the meals come out quick and fresh.

Love the food. The Mozzarella sticks are to die for. They have been closed for over a year and sometimes when I order the fish there is still bone in it. That's why I took off one star.

Since the remodel I found the food, although still good has a different taste. Love that mac and cheese always seems to be available now. Super clean new look too. Only giving it 4 stars since they only take cash. They do have an ATM in the door way but still was charged a fee when i didn't really want to pay one.

Surprisingly good for a Schenectady restaurant. Seating is adequate with minimal wait times for food. Ordering can be daunting due to the spaced out menu and fast paced ordering counter. However the fish selection is wide and the New England Clam chowder was surprisingly authentic. It is a bit odd seeing a nautical theme in industrial Schenectady but it does make you feel like you are somewhere else; which may be a good thing. Would return.

I went here to get a fish dinner. The service was great. Fast and friendly people to take your order. The menu has many different options you can choice from. They only take cash here to pay for your food. But there is an atm on site so you can use that. My order was made very fast. The food was very good. I will be returning to this place to get more food sometime.

I love the new building. Absolutely beautiful. But I feel like being closed for so long due to renovations changed a lot of their prices and food. It's just not the same anymore. If its not broke. Dont fix it. Best of luck to these guys. A staple in Schenectady for years.

The food is always good. The people are nice and helpful the pudding was good and the carrot cake was delicious mom and my son enjoyed every thing mom loved the soup Phillip love the clam fries and 🍟 i love the fish even thing good took food home for another day.

Food is great, got the signature fried fish sandwich, fish was 2x bigger than the bun. New England chowder excellent, mac and cheese very good. Fries crinkle cut, hot, not greasy, salted just right. Son got a piece of Cajun fried catfish, was as large as a Frisbee. Breading on catfish a bit thick, but still tasty and huge.

Stopped in for a take out order. First time I've been there since the remodel. There are several wall mounted menus with a wide variety of entrees. I got a container New England clam chowder. It had a good ratio of clams to potatoes. It was tasty. My fish fry and fries were also satisfying. Only disappointment was their potato salad. It was much better before the remodel. The remodeled section with a concrete like floor, metal tables and chairs can be quite noisy. Interior is much larger than before with ample dine in space.

Cash only is kind of a drag since the place looked fairly new, but I used the atm. Got the fish n chips lunch special, was pretty decent. Not as good as Ted's but for the location is definitely pretty good. Awesome brownies and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Will go back most definitely!

Food is good I've been going here since it was a little hut since 2010. But I was a little disappointed and caught off guard by a staff member after I received my order and in my car getting ready to leave the parking lot a staff approached me and said she gave me four extra sides which was someone else's order and proceeded to tell me I have to give them back so she could give it to the other person when I explained I bought two dinners with 2 sides each and what are you talking about I have to give u 4 back ?after her denying what I was saying Now I showed her I bought two dinners then I noticed she only gave me two extra sides I returned them with no hesitation. But let me point out once food leaves the restaurant into another person's hands it should never be retrieved to give to ANOTHER CUSTOMER !

Maker’s Fish House is average, meaning nothing really stands out as spectacular or earning more stars. The business is ran the way that is expected as a customer. My 3-star rating method is based off of what you expect as a customer, Prompt attention, expected product for the money, and clean & tidy place.

Had the catfish with Mac n cheese and onion rings. It was good. The fish could have used a bit more Cajun seasoning. And it took me two days to finish it all! So I liked the portions.

Was my first time being here in over 8 years it's very high price for very little food I remember back in the day before the original owner passed away you got your money's worth . But on other hand the remodel is very nice gives it more space you're not in a tiny little building with just two booths to eat at anymore so that was nice .also the lady at the front end taking orders was very nice friendly and helpful .. but the one who brought out the order was very rude to customer prior to us who was coming to get his order and then when my mother went to pick up her order as I was waiting for my order the woman was rude again and very dismissive to my mother and disrespectful .. when it was time to get my order even though there was sauce missing from my order I didn't bother to mention it to her because of her behavior prior to me and even though it was busy at the time and that can be used as an excuse😒(not really) I still believe that you should never be rude and dismissive towards your customers remember they're the reason you have a paycheck and if you're so unhappy and miserable working there then maybe it's time you find another position where you don't have to deal with people..

Place is very nice. Fish was a tad bit too greasy. Asked for extra tartar sauce and guess what... not one cup of tartar sauce but all ketchup 😫. The fact you charge extra to use a credit card you would think you make sure the tartar sauce is in the bag. I should've just went to Ted's Fish Fry 🙄.

I REALLY wanted to like our lunch today. First time here since it reopened. Not happy . They forgot to give us a side of cole slaw, fries weren't cooked enough and cold in the middle, fish was too dark, lobster bisque only broth. Bill was $44. Sorry, not worth it.

Very disappointed. First, it was super cold in the place. I had a wool coat on and was still freezing. Fried scallops - the flavor was great. But omg were they rubbery. I feel like they were cooked before and reheated in the oil. The service was great- very nice people. May give it another shot - but not in the winter if it’s always that cold.

It was my first time there. I had fish and chips dinner. Fish was very overcooked as well as the fries. I also had a fish fry. Which I might add was a totally different color and was cooked perfectly. I did go on Good Friday, and they were extremely busy. Although that doesn't give them a pass. I will definitely go back for a fish fry.

Great food - nice selection - friendly staff. Decent prices (slight raise recently most likely due to covid19). Wish the waiting area for to go orders and where you place the order was bigger- tends to be a little crowded and not enough room to really social distance. Wish they had more appetizers like stuffed mushrooms and maybe a seafood dip for chips or pita. Dining area is always clean in addition to outside.

I ordered two fish n chips with out the fries. Got the onion rings and they were they were sitting in full of grease couldn’t find the fish. It was little pieces of fish. I can say that the condiments that they had in the little containers. It was frozen cocktail sauce was even frozen the best thing. I’m glad that I had ordered a side of shrimps because they were better than the fish and chip instead of getting french fries I got onion rings in there soggy you can’t even eat them. I took pictures and I’m gonna send pictures. I give this a thumbs down and I give this one. I don’t think I will be going back there anytime soon for any food.

This is a Schenectady landmark,there use to be several fried seafood places but this is the one which remains. Robust menu with many different items,both meal specials and individual items.My most recent trip I got an individual fish fry and clam fry.Fish definitely lacked flavor and that flavor which was present was just kinda off,odd tasting.Clam fry was very good,crispy and perfectly fried. Word of caution,this establishment was pricey before food cost increases so be prepared to shell out some money.

Nice pleasant staff, but have to give a honest review not my first time here, but not sure how many more chances willing to give this place food is subpar in my opinion.. Wasn't really that busy I don't understand the rush of slapping the fish right on a plate without fully draining it having it sit in a pool of grease making it super soggy on the bottom was not a good experience not the first time that has happened. Onion rings were overcooked and grainy. The coleslaw is damn near shred to a pulp I don't know if they are intentionally going for the consistency of rice or catering to a nursing home, also, the dine in experience could have been made a little bit better by having condiments on the tables you don't have that many tables in the first place that is just lazy in my opinion. Can't try to blame Covid because you do not practice Covid protocol. You are not disinfecting tables after customers or your doors and handles or wearing a mask. almost every other good fish place you go to will have your cocktail sauce, tartar, malt vinegar, etc. at the tables or at the very least a station with it in a pump so you can grab your own with the little cups instead of giving halfway frozen excessive amounts of cocktail sauce. ketchup packets for a dine in experience is trash.. and lazy..On top of that it would probably save you some tartar sauce and cocktail sauce because the amount that you give from the freezer or refrigerator is eight times the amount that a normal person needs. Nothing worse than spending $$ to eat out and being disappointed but hey, it's Schenectady, They are like the only one out here so I guess they get to get away with it. Pretty sure there are plenty of people that think it's great, but probably all they really know.

EDIT: NOW OPEN AFTER RENOVATIONS Second edit after renovations: It is May 18, 2018 and after numerous tries, I must say that my worst suspicions have been realized. SOMETHING HAS CHANGED - AND NOT FOR THE BETTER! Tonight my husband went miles out of his way for a fish fry for me and clams with bellies for himself. When asked if he wanted to get the "special" with the fish fry, he said sure. On coming home, I was faced with 7-8 oddly shaped little bits of overcooked fish pieces on a plate with fries. Not appetizing at all. I've never seen anything like it! We got a small order of baked beans (which USED to be good - almost/maybe homemade) now seem like Campbell's canned. My husband's clams were tiny and also overcooked. What the heck has happened to this place? Better get the old recipes back, stop overlooking everything, and give customers a better experience. I was always a fan. Now? Not so much. ******************************************* It's 2/9/18 and my first return visit. The change is, well, not what I expected. They had the perfect chance to reconfigure this cramped customer service area. Instead, they added space around it. It stayed cramped. So silly, with space to spare. There's a sign proclaiming fresh cut fries, which perhaps their supplier promised the taste to be. Alas, it is not so. Close, and very good, but fresh cut? No. (I eventually tried these. Don't even bother.) All this leads me to think it is not the same owner. I also did not see familiar faces. _____________________________________________

Was good to see them back open but... I ordered the chicken and fish combo @ $13 and change. I get home and discovered the meal consisted of 3 small chicken tenders and 2 small pieces of fish. I had the baked beans that were cold and bland with the mac and tuna salad that I just didn't enjoy. I have been coming here for years and anxiously anticipated the reopening. Very disappointed 😔

The fish frys were thin pieces of fish on hotdog rolls. Onion rings were a big disappointment they use to be thick breaded rings now there very thin rings of onion and the breading falls off. Not what they use to be. So 😔

Had a taste for good fried fish found this place on internet. Ordered fish and chips.... a mass of greasy mess!! To say the least!! Paper plate they put food on ....bag put food in was in a greasy mess!! Seems like they were cooking fish in dirty grease I tried calling them back they were closed !! I hope and pray your first experience turns out beta than mine did! THEY WILL BE HEARING FROM ME THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY!

It’s lent season, trying to eat fish and no meat on fridays, I’ve called 3 - 4 times in a row on fridays to get fish frys, the phone is a always busy !!! Why can’t a second phone line be added?? Losing business because the phone is never answered? Are they happy with the business they have ?? Seems like they want no new customers ?? Not to mention, when I go there in person the last 3 months, they are out of stuffed mushrooms !!! I will be going back to combos, or teds fish fry . Way to go Ankers fish fry !!!!!

It is definitely not the same anymore...i used to love the macaroni and cheese, its mad dry now smh! No seasoning whatsoever smh!!! I'll try again but I went at noon there is no way the macaroni and cheese should be that dry so early if they opened at 11am.

I ordered take out. I was Very disappointed. The fish was old, not fresh. There was a brown Hair in my food (Nasty) the onion rings were Burnt. The French fries were still frozen in the middle. And the hush puppies were dry and burned. Nothing was good. I used to eat there long ago and the food was good. I should have Returned the food, hair and all, but I threw it out. I spent $27.00. I will Never buy anything from them Ever Again!!!

I used to love going here. Ever since they expanded, the food does not taste the same!!! I just spent 35$ and nothing was good! The haddock was soggy, the fries were cold, the clam fry had a weird taste, and the chicken tenders were cold and soggy 😞 it doesn’t always pay to go bigger, because bigger does not always mean better 👎🏼

Be very cautious with this business. First the food.. I’ve been 2 times.. 1st time was great.. food wise.. 2nd time.. smaller portions and soup is watered down.. my biggest concern is the fact that they are charging consumers a 4% surcharge for credit cards.. per NYS.. this is not allowed.. when I contacted the business to state this, with the link to NYS stating what you can or can not do… I was simply blocked by this company. Do not pay this fee.

Spent 20 dollars on a fish meal, got home with no fries and on top of that the fish has absolutely no flavor and dry..a waste of my time and money..my bag clearly said fish dinner.i won't be going back..i did get through by phone and was offered a credit for fries, appreciated..but sadly me not getting my fries was just the half..the fish is flavorless...ill go to offshore pier(i highly recommend ) or teds
