Opinions de The Trading Post Shaver Lake
This place is just great! Classic entrees and a mix of new ones to keep it interesting. Love the fireplaces and the rustic atmosphere. It is always a treat to go to the Trading Post!
Great food - had rack of lamb and prime rib and both were excellent! Nice staff and very attention. Nice ambiance too.
Excellent service and food. It was busy, so a bit noisy, but not bothersome as it was the sound of people enjoying themselves!
Incredible Service Host made room even though we had no reservation. Server was more of a tour guide than a waitress. Gave Excellent recommendations and made sure we enjoyed every bite and sip of our meal. Had to sit outside b/c of COVID-19, but they have made the ambience festive while maintaining their top shelf feel. No visit to Shaver is complete without a visit to the Trading Post and Kelley's impeccable service with a smile.
Shaver Lake jewel. We are 400 miles away in the Los Angeles area have eaten at many a fine dining establishment. My hubby and I rate this right up there with the best of the best. The Rib Eye Steak was perfect! The Spinach Salad and their dressing perfection! The Minestone Soup amount the most flavorful we have tasted. The rack of Lamb superb. This is a must to seek out. Granted it is in a cute mountain type building cleverly decorated small with approximately 12 or so tables I would highly recommend reservations. On a weekend early if you live Prime Rib it sells out fast evidently! The Manhattan I ordered was mixed perfect. I do not understand some of the reviews this place is 5 star in their food! Will definitely plan to travel this way again in my future road adventures. Wanted to give a high recommendation for others planning a trip to or through Shaver Lake.
My wife and I decided to enjoy a steak dinner at the Trading Post. The Rib Eye steak was cooked exactly how we requested medium rare for myself and rare for my wife the steak was delicious! The soup and salad was excellent. The atmosphere was rustic and cozy. Our waitress and the bartender were both friendly and professional. Thank you!
This exceed my expectations, the ambiance it's perfect for a cabin feel, the food was delicious and the service was amazing, our server was beyond helpful with such a good attitude and that makes a world of a difference! Definitely coming back when we visit Shaver Lake again!
We had a lovely dinner with the family at the trading post. The serving sizes were too big so most of us opted to share a dish, which worked out nicely. The halibut was cooked perfectly and the spinach salad was delicious.
Had some food and a couple drinks! Bartender Ryan was like Sir Mix-A-Lot, he made me the best Moscow Mule ever! Calamari was outstanding! Will be coming back! Local, rustic with a fancy twist!
Great location in Shaver Lake, CA. One of the oldest businesses in the area. Very nice interior. Outdoor seating sometimes available. Very much on the expensive side though.
Delicious food in charming mountain restaurant. Best place to eat in town, so expect it to be busy and crowded. Appeared that whoever was bussing tables was either absent or overworked, took awhile to turn tables. Definitely need reservations.
Excellent food. The service was good. The atmosphere is nice. This place isn't open for breakfast. The menu is basically either chicken or steak. Steaks are $30+ and chicken dinners are $20+.
Excellent service, and the food was great. Nice change in this mountain hamlet from pizza and burgers. Will defiantly eat there next time were up in the area.
Trading Post is a favorite to visit each time we head up to Shaver. Friday and Saturday nights are particularly special because of the prime rib! Great, casual place to visit for a very filling, warm dinner or afternoon drink.
OMG! delicious first time there. Sirlion steak and Mushrooms yum, bake potatoes who doesn't enjoy Spinach salad dressing incredible.
First of all...much better than the Seasons Bistro.. I’m up here working on the Creek Fire and I didn’t know this place even existed ‘til week 2 of work. It’s AMAZING! The food is so so good, but arguably better is the atmosphere and ambiance. Such a beautiful hidden gem. I’m sort of hesitant to even bring attention to this perfect place in hopes of not exposing it to keep its home town family friendly vibe. Our awesome waitress was Samantha and she is nothing short of a perfect and friendly person to enhance your already perfect dinner. Highly recommeded. 💙
Loved the place ❤️ we tried their steak and also their lamb, and everything was delicious. Service was great 👌
Restaurant in Small town of Shaver lake, very good food. Good servers. Only thing I didn't like is, waiters wasn't wearing no face masks.
One of the best experiences I’ve had at a restaurant in a long time. Every bit of the service, the food, the energy was perfect. This is a hidden treasure that deserves a trip.
I always love my time at the Trading Post! Such a treat!

We love this place!! Worth the drive, so cozy and welcoming!! The food is delicious, haven’t had anything not worthy
Exceeded all expectations. The prices might be a little on the higher end menu, but I didn't realize what the dinner plates included (basically a 3 course meal) and how generous the portions were! We were stuffed. Perfect for after a day at the lake or hiking. The value for cost exceed expectations, and the customer service was outstanding. Our server was so attentive and all the little details were thought about. The ambiance on the patio was relaxing and a perfect romantic dinner for me and my boyfriend. We really enjoyed our meal and would be back for sure. Highly recommend. Everything we ate was delicious (had the ribs and ribeye - some of the best we've ever had!). This is also a neat historical building.
We are locals and happy to have this restaurant nearby for a good meal. The decor is mountain rustic. The fireplace is made of white quartz rocks. Very unique. The place is heated with wood stove and the fireplace. The bar is a solid piece of sugar pine. Food is served up in ample portions on plates that are too small. The ribs are really good. Soups are tasty and welcome on chilly days. The only bad news is that it can be hard to get a reservation on busy tourist days.
Love their spinach salad! The dressing tastes phenomenal. Sadly their bottled dressing sells out so fast that we can't always take one home with us. Never had a bad meal here. Prime rib was wonderfully rare. Shrimp was cooked to perfection. Just such a great historical place that's warm and cozy.
Fantastic! Our daughter treated us to dinner from takeout, and it was delicious. She ordered the Halibut bites, Lemon Pepper Chicken, Spinach and Cheese Ravioli. The entrees came with salad, bread and minestrone soup. The portions were perfect, we shared everything. We also got a cheesecake to share, also yummy. The service while ordering & at pick up was excellent. We definitely recommend Trading Post.
Great food, warm service, and a cozy atmosphere. Definitely worth coming back.

I was intrigued by the "World Famous chunky bread" there was much more then that deliciousness that made the visit special. The crew was so nice and recommended some great things. The breakfast burrito was like it was home made. The pancakes were perfectly fluffy with a slight crisp. The ambiance was that of a mom and pop all about local feel. I highly recommend this place and am super glad I stopped in.

My Fiancé and I really enjoyed this place, the staff was so welcoming and helpful. We loved the scenery because it just reminded us of home ! So cozy and warm next to a fire place out side. Johnny was our waiter he was so sweet and honest , really made feel comfortable and even gave us a sample of sangria and beer ! His customer service was one of the best and his recommendations were perfect for our taste and appetite. We truly couldn't stop eating lol Thank You for your hospitality!
This restaurant is the best that Shaver Lake has to offer. Not to be bratty; but it's good food for *Mountain Food". Meaning, the 16oz. Ribeye was bland, and the Rack of Lamb was cooked well, but not tasty. Again, this is still reasonable when you put it into perspective. If you were in Berkeley CA and had an imaginable amount if excellent choices; my preference would be to have dinner there. At the same time, the staff was super friendly, and the bartender makes great drinks. Overall, I give it four stars for the attraction, and where the location is.
Just finished dinner . . . first time I've eaten at a restaurant in Shaver Lake. Two of three filet mignons were excellent but the one was without flavor & over-cooked. The ribs & spinach ravioli also yummy. The soup was AMAZINGLY good as was the ranch dressing on a crisp garden salad and the sweet tea was to die for. Not many choices in Shaver but cost for the quality was well worth a good dinner that I did not cook myself. The service was prompt & friendly. The steak in question was removed from the bill as is appropriate. Highly recommended.
Great people. Had to wear coat for cold while eating. Fantastic food. Old bench tilted and sunk in so kind of low height at table. No paper towels in bathroom. In business since 1927. Had a nice time.
Cozy, cabin-feeling. Came for dinner. Good food, nice staff and great service. Big portions, could not finish our meals. They are served with soup, salad and bread!

A Warm and Welcoming Spot for Families The Trading Post offered a wonderfully cozy atmosphere, with a welcoming fire that was perfect for a chilly day. We were immediately impressed by the service, which was incredibly attentive and accommodating to our young children (3 years and 5 months old), making our family dinner feel relaxed and enjoyable. The food was very good. The calamari strip appetizer was a real standout; it was cooked perfectly and served with a fantastic sauce that we all loved. For my main course, I had the shrimp scampi. While the sauce was delicious, the shrimp themselves were a little overcooked. It was still a tasty dish, but it's the one area that could have been slightly better. Overall, we had a great experience. I would highly recommend The Trading Post to anyone, especially families looking for a comfortable and kid-friendly restaurant with excellent service. We will definitely be back, and I look forward to trying another entree next time.

First of all, let me say our food and the wait staff were very good. However, during our wait for the food, one of the cooks yelled at my 9 year old daughter who was exploring with her 1 year old cousin outside the restaurant in a public space next door. She was visibly upset by the encounter and it kinda ruined our meal. We come up to Shaver several times each year, but don't think we'll be going back there.
It wasn't a bad dinner. All things considered. However, the Barbeque Ribs appear to be misnamed. Instead, I'd suggest "Charcoal Ribs" or "Sauceless Ribs" if they're going to continue to serve the current offering. Soup, salad, and appetizers were good or great. Ravioli was too salty in hindsight. It went down easily, but sits heavily in your stomach. The bartender and the blonde heavyset cute waitress were good. The thin lady doing seating seemed overwhelmed, even though I saw maybe 10 tables so I'm not sure what's going on there. I'd go again for drinks maybe? But I'd probably go elsewhere in this small town for food. I heard some great things about Lake Shaver Pizza and it is pretty good.
This was a disappointment. The food is usually good. The soup was delicious, a squash soup followed by a salad. Nothing special about the salad. Then came the entrée. I had the mesquite chicken, baked potato and squash medley. The baked potato seemed like it was microwaved for too long. It was dried out and hard. The chicken had no seasoning. Even with added salt the chicken was bland. The vegetable medley was bland. Overall the food was terribly expensive. It's only saving grace was the nice and attentive waitress.
We had reservations for 7:00 and I’m glad we called in ahead of time, seating is super limited. The hostess was super frazzled and seemed a little overwhelmed and there really isn’t to many tables so I don’t get it but ok.. lol the staff was super friendly so that was cool to but the food just didn’t hit the mark. It wasn’t awful or anything but it wasn’t at all worth what we paid for it. We started out with the escargot and shrimp cocktail. I really don’t like the idea of putting snails in my mouth but the wife made me try it and it was ok haha. The shrimp cocktail was nothing special but not bad either. I ordered the ribs and they had a super limited number of sides to chose from so I settled for a baked potato and veggies and I don’t like baked potatoes unless they are covered in stuff and again they didn’t have anything to put on if except butter and sour cream cheese…. the ribs were basic and the bbq sauce wasn’t very good and didn’t pair with the ribs at all. My wife ordered the New York and didn’t finish it. I’m not saying don’t eat here because I know everyone has different tastes but this place just wasn’t for me, so I encourage you to go check ‘em out and have your own experience. Parking was alright but very limited and it was a little pricy for what is was.

We made a reservation than We were seated down but were asked to moved because someone requested the table we were already at, waited over an hour to get food. We were finally given two slices of bread for the two of us. The waitress then told us the someone walked out on a 200 dollar bill. Never asked us if we wanted another drink. We will not be back

1st.. cute little dining place.. server was very nice. 2nd the food was not as good as expected. Eggs were over cooked. Steak was very small and potatoes were hard. For the price that we paid for it should of been better.
Came here for breakfast with my family. Def never coming back, about 20 dollars for a plate, which is can be considered normal now a days, but when the bacon, eggs and potatoes are ALL burnt and taste like grease and came straight out a deep fryer. I would not recommend coming here.
The food is iffy, chicken was dry, and I wasn't aware that it was even possible to make lousy scampi! Overpriced, and rustic-ly pretentious. The waitress yelled at me and my guest for (quietly, politely) commenting on the food, while the owner stood nearby and said nothing. She then proceeded to ignore us for the rest of the evening. This isn't the first time I've been embarrassed there, but it's definitely the last. The patio is quite lovely, but that's it.
Horrible food! I can’t believe how many good reviews this place has. Must be local support. We’ve been going to trading post for years and the food has gone way downhill. Started off with some table bread that was rock hard. Ribs were over cooked and soaked with plain bbq sauce. Calamari was awful. Ravioli sauce was darn near Mexican salsa and the pasta itself was hard. How can you mess up ravioli? Veggies were cold and smothered with salt. The only decent thing was our side salads. They try way too hard to be a 5 star fine dining restaurant. For the amount of money they charge they need to revisit the kitchen/menu and hire cooks that can cook. Sad because it used to be a good spot. You’ll be much happier staying home and making a frozen pizza.
The meal was well under par but the worst factor about the dinner-out was management. The manager was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful, we have never had an interaction like this in a dining environment. At one point, she projected to her employees, "come here, we are going to have a life lesson"... no words to describe how our party felt and the rest of the restaurant patrons. We would never think about going to this establishment again.
Called to make reservation for 9 at 7 pm for that night. Was told they could not seat 9 at the same table til 8. I requested a table for 5 and a table for 4 at 7 pm and was told that would work. Upon arrival at 7 pm I was told the table for 4 would be available at 7:15 and the table for 5 at 8. I reminded the hostess what I'd been told and she said she'd see what could be done. We left after waiting 15 minutes. Very poorly managed restaurant!
Horrible experience. We made reservations 2 days ago and expected to be seated in the dining room... Yeah, no... they tried to seat us at the bar! Bullshît! We planned on dropping some serious money on a nice dinner, wine, etc. If we wanted to eat at the bar, we would have went across the street to the BBQ joint. VERY DISAPPOINTING!
I wasn’t going to leave a review until I read many others stating the same thing that they have been yelled at. My 90 year old grandmother and 6 year old were yelled at because we brought my 6 year old a snack because there were no kids menus. After being yelled at you don’t get the choice to respond before the owner storms off...then comes again...then storms off...again. Then when you’d like to leave because...duh who likes to be yelled at when you’re paying that much for food. She says she will NOT waste food and you must eat it. At this place the owner is always right even if they’re clearly wrong. No one should be yelled ever at a restaurant by an OWNER!!! especially if you’d like business and when you can choose to respond kindly instead of yelling and then trying to force me to stay and eat the food like Im a 3 year old.
way over priced and not that good, idk about all the meat stuff but the roasted ravioli was horrible. For a kids cheese burger with nothing on it not even sauce was 17$….. Btw if you have more than 6 ppl you have to tip the waiter 20%! Our waiter was kinda rude too. In my opinion, i wouldn’t eat there again…
4 adults and 2 teens cost $511 and some change. Asked for some more bread which was only 6 chunks and they charged 16 bucks for that. For the price food wasn’t very good and the service sucked. Shoulda went down the hill
We sat at the bar near the fireplace. The bartender was awesome. He had a little Bluetooth speaker playing some good music. The rest of the restaurant was completely silent. Probably extremely boring. The fireplace was awesome. The food was absolutely disgusting! We ordered the grilled calamari but it was breaded and a soggy mess. I’m honestly not even sure if it was actually calamari. It was inedible. Apparently this place is “fine dining.” I can guarantee you that this is not fine dining. It’s just a diner with expensive prices. After the calamari appetizer we decided that we had had enough with this place. I will never go back unless we just want to sit at bar have some drinks but then again you can probably do that at your rental instead for 1/10 of the price.
