We had a very good meal after traveling a few hours. The portion was generous and the food was flavorful. Three adults shared the Porterhouse and asparagus which were cooked perfectly. The only downside was the sauce for the chicken parm was too sweet and a bit too runny which the teenager flavored with black pepper. The chicken was cooked perfectly so it made up for the sweetness. We'll come back and try the aged tomahawk.
Stopped in for lunch with some friends ,and ordered the Turkey Club sandwich. It was delicious!!! Everyone enjoyed their meal . No matter if it’s dinner ,lunch,or to go Black Rock never disappoints. My favorite part about dining at Black Rock is the familiar friendly service ! Natalie was very attentive, and has a way of making you feel like you’re part of the family. 🩷
We were on vacation here from NJ and upon looking at steakhouses in the area, I stumbled upon this lovely hidden GEM! The food is absolutely amazing and cooked to perfection! Natalie the waitress was beyond great! Her personality and humor was a breath of fresh air! This little steakhouse is beyond amazing and we would definitely recommend to anyone! Great job!
Visiting from Texas and rented an Airbnb close by. The Black Rock was highly recommended and I am glad we went! The food was fantastic and the service was great as well. Our server was very friendly and the food came out within 20 minutes of ordering. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. I thought the prices were very reasonable and then they had a long list of "specials" with even better pricing. Portions of the sides are plenty for two people. 20oz Tomahawk with Vidalia onions, 10oz Filet, garlic mashed, cream spinach and the "lazy lobster" dish. Great experience and I would recommend this place to any and every one! Dress code is casual too
Great place to stop and eat. Was close to other local shop and close to 91 had alot of options and my burger was delishes. Our waitress was on point friendly and new the menu and the French fries were home made Big plus... I will be back to try the other options on the menu.
Went up to Springfield Vt for vacation and with all my travels this is best Steakhouse experience I have had. Great staff pleasant and attentive great food Dry aged steak perfectand Great pricing. If you get the chance get to Black Rock House. AMAZING.
We went with a VERY large group this past Friday night fairly late. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and everything was fast, the food was AMAZING, the prices were absolutely reasonable and we couldn't recommend more. I would probably always get a reservation as every table was full (as it should be it was so good). I personally had the Saku Block Ahi Tuna and Filet Mignon with carrot cake for dessert and would order again. Next time we are visiting the area this will be our go-to and we would recommend to anyone. Thanks again!
We are visiting from Alabama and stumbled upon this place on a Sunday evening. The service was excellent and the food was amazing! We loved it so much we are going back tonight and taking a friend! Menu is extensive and a huge blackboard wall of additions not on the menu made choosing somewhat difficult. Portions are very generous! My husband had the Filet which melted in your mouth and I had Lobster! We shared the Escargot appetizer which was great! The slice of carrot cake was HUGE! Enough for 4 people to share! Hubs had the delicious Blueberry Cobbler.
This is the best steak I have ever had in my life. The Sirloin on the rock was absolutely stunning. Second time I had Wagyu which was so soft and tender, fantastic quality steaks. I’ll definitely come back every time I visit the family up here in VT. Thanks for having us @Blackrock, wonderful experience!
You just can't beat the friendly service, the great atmosphere, or the incredible food here! Our server remembered us and seemed happy to see us back! She was amazing and took care of us as if we were the only customers there!!! And then, there's the food!!!! So delicious and amazing. This is what restaurants aspire to become! I absolutely love this place!!!! You are missing out if you do not try Black Rock Steakhouse.
This restaurant was really good and we will definitely return and definitely recommend to others. Drinks were great and the food was spot on. The only thing is we were still having drinks we were told that the next reservation was there so we felt like we were rushed out. So keep an eye the reservation time details.
Wow, middle of somewhere restaurant, full parking lot for a reason. The menu is huge, and so are the servings, and the prices were very reasonable. The hot rock steaks were a fun experience. All the dishes expertly prepared and presented with great flavor. Very much worth the drive!
The food is SO good we had to come back for a second day in a row!
10/10 recommend this restaurant. Especially if you're looking for a nicer place to go to for special occasions!! It's obviously pricey compared to your average chain restaurant, but this is WORTH IT. Every penny is worth it. The steak melts in your mouth, the Bang Bang shrimp is packed with flavor, the mashed potatoes were creamy, generous glasses of wine, everything was amazing. Shout out to our waitress Kayla who gave us a HUGE cake for my husband's birthday. Not a slice. A WHOLE CAKE. We will be going back and we will be bringing EVERYONE with us.
Excellent pro but personable service, numerous choices, large portions, clean casual atmosphere, priced affordably 3-4 star prices on 4-5 star meals. Variety of specialty items like fried gator, fried brie, bang bang shrimp, & whole belly clams & plethora of daily specials. Highly recommend!
Really great experience here, we enjoyed the food a lot and they are all big dishes. The beef on the rock is so special, I can cook it on the rock! I like it a lot! The soup tastes good as well, I love the curry chicken!
In 2022 we stopped here for dinner and it was fantastic. Nice rustic atmosphere with friendly and polite staff that checked on us enough without being intrusive. Drinks were very good. The steak was wonderful and came on a sizzling hot rock , very cool. The lobster tails were delicious and cooked perfectly. Loved it so much we went out of our way to come back a second night. Definitely recommend
This place really surprised me. I’m glad we made a reservation because they were very busy. I ordered the New York strip steak on the rock. This was very cool! I highly recommend that you order anything on the rock. I cooked my steak on my own personal lava rock that was heated in an 800 degree stove. One thing they need to consider changing are the plastic cups to glass cups. They serve complementary popovers, and have cloth napkins. It just seemed tacky to have these plastic cups that say Coca-Cola on them. Otherwise the staff was very helpful and friendly and we enjoyed our meal immensely!
Great food & drinks. Great atmosphere. I ordered the Burger and Filet Mignon. My burger was a little over cooked than I ordered but still good. My Filet Mignon was awesome. A friend I was with ordered Haddock and I tried a bite of it and it was perfect. Out waiter was friendly along with other staff & made sure we had everything to enjoy our nice meal. Highly recommend this steak house
My server was MARY ANN L. she is just amazing, super nice, friendly, she gave an outstanding service. I order the seared Tuna and gorgonzola mussels as an appetizer, and seafood Alfredo pasta it was so good!! The portions are large to share. The prices are fantastic for the quality and quantity you get. I give a 10/10. Don’t forget to ask for MARY ANN L she is the best. I was impressed on a Monday night was popping. Make reservations!!!!!
Really enjoyed this place! Easy booking online, amazing food and service. We ordered tuna as an appetizer ( Pic attached), haddock, and Argentinian steak, and both come with a variety of side dishes. I got garlic mash and house salad. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Service was also very good.
We were a party of nine, looking to have a great time, Sue was the reason our night was sublime! From drink refills to food that flew, Every single detail was handled by Sue. Friendly, quick, with a smile so true, Our food was delicious, desserts were great too! She kept us laughing, relaxed, and fed, Never once missed a thing we said. You should be dining here, take our cue— Ask for the legend, the star… ask for Sue!
We haven't been in since shortly after they initially opened years ago and its significantly better now. Both our meals were fantastic but for me the cream corn dish was to die for!
Black Rock is one of those places that the locals love and you can tell when you see the excellent interaction with the wait staff. I found the drinks to be a bit weaker than ideal but very delicious. Our bacon wrapped scallops where way overcooked, the tell tail sign was the extra crispy bacon. The tri plate, chicken shrimp and steak, was outstanding especially the steak which was cooked perfectly.
We stopped in for lunch on our way home. I have to have gluten-free options due to celiac, and even though none of the items on the menu are specified as gluten-free, the waitress took care of us. I had the baked shrimp with fries. This is a place I would come back to for another meal.
Personal service from the time we walked through the door. Ashley was wonderful, food was perfect and reasonably priced. Well worth the visit and if you go before 5PM, great early bird specials.
This place rocks! Including the lava rock to cook your own tuna steak on. To your own desired doneness. The tomahawk aged steaks awesome great value perfectly cooked. Filet mignon so good and tender. Theres a lobster tank haven't seen those in awhile. Friendly staff highly recommended.
I had the King Cut Prime Rib. That was a serious piece of meat. I My Boss was paying...lol I spent 2 days shoveling myself out after the snow storm so I worked some of it off. Cooked kust as I had ordered. Service was friendly and helpful. My boss liked the light up menus. The ambiance can use some updating. The interior has looked the same for a long time.
This is one of my favorites, their salad bar used to be outta this world but when covid hit they did away with it. They're food, drinks and everything in-between is great. Super happy to have them here! Added bonus, on Wednesdays from like 1p- 5p or something like that, they've got a food truck and you can buy the food they sell at the restaurant, uncooked, at a great price. What's not to love about em.
Pleasant help, both of the girls. This was due to passing from lunch, to dinner time. The steamers came, and I thought I was getting raw, not a huge fan of steamers, but these were darn good! Then I got what I drove 2 hours for, Whole Belly Clams. Some were tender, some you couldn't chew apart. Then it was dinner menu time, 3pm. So me being me, I ordered the Porterhouse Steak, it was quite good I must say. If I hadn't eaten so much before, I was really wanting to try a Tomahawk Steak. As it was I took some of my dinner home. Rolls were good, Green Beans were great,"garlic"! Just didn't have it in me to do a dessert, maybe next time, I would return. Their own sodas, this one was great.
This place punches above it's weight for the area it's not the best steak house I've been to but I've paid a lot more for meals that weren't quite as good. There's a reason reservations are recommended as the value (price to quality ratio) of this place is hard to beat. Of the 3 times I've been there only one was sub par mostly the prime rib(seemed more like choice than prime) I got was tough (probably not their fault) and not totally warmed up (totally on them) but I think it was a Monday and the owner wasn't present so I'll let the other two experiences speak for the overall reputation of the place. Bottom line it's worth the detour if you're in the area, definitely a part of the regular rotation
For someone who feasts on NYC steaks, fries, burgers etc.. this sure was coming up against a lot. We felt incredibly care for by Branden, his service and hospitality were incredible. I order the soup of the day (curry chicken) with the parmesan truffle fries. The competitive pricing of the $10 dollar burger won the hearts of many of my friends, and out of respect for the establishment on of us ordered a steak. The food itself was okay! I can't say that I was incredibly blown a way. the presentation of the food was nice but some of the flavors lacked. All that to say, I'd go back becasue the staff are friendly!
Attentive and friendly service on a busy night at the bar. The menu also has added items on the large blackboard. Great prices on steaks, the steaks could use a little more basic seasoning like salt. Good spot in the local area to visit if in town.
We took a day trip up to Vermont. Found this restaurant (Black Rock Steakhouse), in our travels. We had the NY Strip and found it, to be very good. Would definitely recommend this place on your travels.
I wanted this restaurant to be so much more then it was. I made a reservation for my father's birthday. When we got there the host looked like he'd rather be anywhere else then there. The waitress was nice, however I was expecting the steaks to come on the rock and I later learned this was an option but she never offered it. My steak was over cooked but I ate it anyway, I actually dont think it was even a ribeye. My dad's prime rib was excellent however. They brought a nice dessert and sang for my dads birthday which was also nice. The experience over all was average, nothing special.
Black Rock Steakhouse located in Springfield, Vermont is the best steakhouse in Springfield. Our food was good. The employees are nice. Reservations are highly recommended but not required. Before Covid, this restaurant had a very good salad bar. Unfortunately they no longer offer a salad bar. The prices are a bit high. We recommend this restaurant.
The food was okay, I guess. The flavor of my steak was good. They cooked it at too high of a temperature, so it was charred on the outside with uneven internal temp. I ordered medium rare. It was also odd that they used 2 peices of meat to produce a 12oz steak. Half the menu is written on the wall.. seriously, see pics. The waitress just pointed at the wall across the restaurant, like that's a normal thing. I had to walk over and take a picture so everyone at the table could see. The staff was nice and polite, and the restaurant was clean and orderly. Overall, we had a decent experience, just some odd things.
After years of enjoying many dining experiences at Black Rock, often a chosen favorite for birthday and large parties, I'll find it hard to consider them in the future for even a simple meal. Following our meal, last round of drinks not even finished, we were asked to exit our reserved table less than an hour after being served. Mind you, we were a party of 4, ages ranging mid 40's to mid 60's. We were not loud, obnoxious, or rude to the staff who we know well from so many visits to Black Rock, we were two couples catching up after ones holiday trip to England. We were a party of 4 seated in a booth, the restaurant was not packed, several other booths and tables were open and available to new comers and it was near 7:45pm, well before closing. Combined orders exceeded $200, when I travel 45 minutes and order a meal priced at $40, as well as appetizers and drinks, I do not expect to be asked to leave without obvious reasoning or understanding.
Wasn’t too happy. The woman on the phone told me it would be 15 minutes on the phone. I ended up waiting almost 45 minutes for my takeout order. They forgot the bread with the order and they didn’t cut the chicken up with the knife so it was this big piece of chicken in the middle of my fettuccine alfredo. I would’ve liked to have been offered something at the bar as well. They also charged me a tax for takeout, which is new for me and I didn’t appreciate it. Unfortunately I would not recommend this place and I will not be eating there again.
Okay, I'll start off. Reservations for 6pm, seated fairly accordingly but never handed menus or given water. We got the menus ourselves. Sure, cool lighted menu but poorly formatted it seems. My partner had to get up and ask the hostess for service because after 15 minutes no one came over to check in for drinks nor even give water. Ordered fairly easily for drinks and the appetizers. Partner got his order correctly, but it seems the menu has a serious problem for the waitresses. I felt like Gordon Ramsey because I asked if the sweet potato fries were frozen and the waitress didn't even know. There wasn't an actual drink menu aside from up on the blackboard which is super hard to see once seated...and no pricing. I hate to be this person, so much, but it's just so hard to find positive things in this experience of mine. No, I didn't feel entitled because it was my birthday I just expected decent service. I ordered the chicken caprese with the fries and a house salad. The waitress comes back and says "sorry, that's gonna be an upcharge on those items". She thought I was ordering the CAPRESE SALAD instead of CHICKEN CAPRESE. I don't think she knew the menu, but I pointed out the items I was ordering, I didn't touch the caprese salad side at all. I was not expecting to go out for dinner and only get an appetizer salad and frozen sweet potato fries. I will not be going back and will seethe about a failed dinner for quite a while because it was just so upsetting for me. I hate making a big deal out of things but couldn't figure out what to say. I never asked for caprese salad. I also didn't ask for the end of a pickle in my plate??? Nor two pieces of hair??? Like one I'd just brush away but two different colors I'm just sputtering 🥴. Oh, and the bread was dry and the butter tasted like country crock or some cheap stuff. Yeah, I might need quite a few years or new management to come back LOL.
Wife and I had king cut prime rib the meat had a large amount of fat or more disappointing tough silver skin.
Have never had a bad meal until this past week. Ordered Chicago prime rib. It was overcooked and very tough to cut even with a steak knife. Fries were great along with good service. I might try prime rib agsin but very hesitant.
Second trip to this restaurant. Both times burger over cooked. Ask for medium rare got well done both times. May be my last time coming here.
Reserved a table for 2 for New Year's Eve. We had high hopes for the place. They say black rock cooking, that's not really the case it seems. The salads were boring, to-go containers for the dressing. My salad had slimy pieces. The scallops wrapped in bacon was okay. The prime rib was OVERCOOKED, gray, and unseasoned. I sent it back and the next one was really raw. By then, I wasn't hungry. My partners meal was very soupy for a Seafood Alfredo. I brought home the prime rib, had to season it and cook it to medium to make it edible. We payed $127 for 2 salads, bacon wrapped scallops, soaked Truffle French fries, seafood Alfredo, and a raw king prime rib.
Me and my wife have been coming here for about a year (we are local) and when the food is correct it is great but unfortunately this the most inconsistent restaurant we have been to. I have never had a steak not cooked to the temp I have asked more than this place. And even worse when we have said something about it rather than trying to improve we were given tips on how to suggest it so the cooks make it correctly. If you cant cook a steak to medium then you probably should not be making them.
Extremely disappointed. We waited 45 minutes for our Filet Mignons, only to be served the charred, burnt "brick" of meat you see in the photo. The steak was overcooked and bitter, and the menu is incredibly restrictive with limited sides and no substitutions. For the high price point, this was a total waste of time and money. We won’t be back.
My family and I have been stopping at Black Rock every summer for years, but after our last visit we will never be back. Something has clearly changed—whether it’s new ownership, new management, or just poor standards, the experience was unacceptable. My sister ordered a seafood platter and was sick all night after eating undercooked shrimp. I ordered a filet (which was very good) and a lobster tail that was undercooked. I even showed the waitress the lobster tail and sent it back. On top of that, all of our sides came out cold—the mashed potatoes and green beans had to be returned. The only things we enjoyed were the bang bang shrimp appetizer and our waitress, who was very friendly. But when the bill came, there was no credit for the lobster I returned, nor for the sides that were sent back. I don’t understand how a restaurant can charge full price when food is undercooked, inedible, and returned. Honestly, I wasn’t even going to leave a review and was just going to move on from the situation. But after waking up this morning to find out my sister was up puking all night and still hasn’t slept, I feel this review is necessary. Sadly, this was our last time dining here. I wish I had pictures but all I have is my credit card transaction for verification.
We arrived at noon, a crowd quickly was forming. The couple in front of us was asked, do you have reservation? They didn't, she took them to their table. We are asked same question, No, I tried to call. She scoffed and sat the 6 of us. Place is filling up, we spend 20 min reviewing menu before asked for our order or drinks. Others are already eating and drinking. Place our order, another 25 min and food arrives. Fish and Chip, special, wasn't cooked completely. The 3 stone filet mignon, hot sizzling stones. The seas scallops stone, barely sizzles when scallop placed. Seemed to cool pretty quick, she offered me another stone, I asked for it to be seared in the kitchen, it was back in 2 minutes. The slaw was sour and brown, the asparagus was cold and the fries slightly warm. The place is now full, I hear our server apologizing to others, sorry I forgot your iced tea, sorry I forgot you were there. We won't be back. Stick to the steak in a steak house is our rule of thumb, and I won't forget that at another steakhouse though. Had a lot of people tell us to go here, it wasn't the same experience they obviously enjoyed to recommend. My daughter said a little flavor on the steak would have been better, but at least her stone sizzled and the meat was soft. We didn't feel welcomed or that our server was friendly.
DO NOT GO HERE! They serve inedible steaks and management doesn’t care. Not only did our server agree our steak was too rare, but we saw numerous steaks served that looked like they just pulled them out of the fridge. When we complained the server told us the best option to solve the problem was to cook the steaks on our own on the black rock (but we didn’t order this way initially because we wanted it cooked by the kitchen). Then after we spoke to management we were told that since we tried to keep cooking it on the black rock, they couldn’t take the raw steak off the bill. They totally manipulated the situation. They gave us $10 off a $40 steak and more than half of it was too raw to eat and too unappetizing to eat after trying to cook ourselves. I will be reporting the restaurant to the Vermont Department of Health.
Me and my husband went here for Valentine’s Day and we were completely disappointed. We only saw our waitress like twice the whole time she never checked in on us there was another waitress working that was picking up her slack and she was much appreciated we tipped her $10. My husbands steak was super tough but he still ate it and mine was very thick and rare I asked for medium so I sent mine back to the kitchen by the time I got it back my husband was already done eating and only half of my steak was cooked correctly the other half was so thick it was still very rare in the middle and the outside was burnt I didn’t even eat it. No discount no apologies $100 spent later. We will not be returning.
