Choza Mayahuel is a place to come with family and friends to rest and to drink and eat something pre-Hispanic, like pozol, tejuino, eat delicious corn tortillas, a house cocktail, Mexican shaved ice with Jamaican flavor, to refresh ourselves and close this experience of visiting the round pyramids... come! The place is super beautiful! Family environment, made with love so that we can enjoy our traditions and ancestral culture... They have hammocks, a comfortable garden to rest with plants everywhere and fresh air... I loved it! We will return soon.
The food is delicious, with average portions. The service is just a bit slow, but it's worth it.
It's located before the entrance to the Guachimontones parking lot, making it easy to get in and out. The service was quick. The names of the dishes aren't easy to pronounce, but the waiter couldn't pronounce them either and told us to use numbers (which I think detracts a bit from the cultural aspect of the experience). We were served quickly and tried the Tejuino, Mayahuelada, Mayadelicia, and Tegüino (a more fermented Tejuino). I recommend the Mayadelicia, which is like a very tasty michelada. The prices are a bit high, but the flavor and speed more than make up for it. The pronunciation issue is the only real drawback, though.
We stopped here after visiting Guachimontones archeological site because we were thirsty and intrigued by the sign advertising “bebidas prehispánicas.” This place far surpassed our expectations. It is family owned and operated, and everything is fresh and homemade. The owner let us sample several flavors of pulque before we ordered a full-size cup. Pulque is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented aguamiel, from the maguey. It’s a relative of the blue agave, which is used to make tequila. Unlike tequila, pulque is much lighter in alcohol content, fizzy, and has a definite fermented flavor. It’s a lot like kombucha. After we finished our [giant] drinks, the owner showed us around the yard and pointed out the plant we’d just drank. Friendly, knowledgeable people and delicious drinks!
Great place, amazing drinks!!!!
Un lugar muy a modo para refrescarse luego del recorrido por la zona arqueológica, y muy a tono con la tradición de la antigua cultura que floreció en la región. Suaves y ricas bebidas ancestrales.
The atmosphere and the place are very pleasant, the prices are a little high, just a little. The spicy food isn't too hot, and the drinks are delicious. I recommend: *Drinks *Dishes served with a volcan (a type of corn tortilla) or handmade corn tortillas. The aguachile has too much lime.
If you want to refresh yourself or grab a snack while leaving the Guachimontones archaeological site, this is the place. They have a good variety of drinks, including pulque, cured spirits, and pozole, but they also offer tejuino, raspados, and cantaritos. They offer stewed tacos, quesadillas, and other dishes, as well as snacks such as chips, peanuts, and more. The prices seem a bit high, but that's understandable given the area. If you come to Guachimontones, be sure to visit them.
This is an open-air, dirt-sided restaurant with pre-Hispanic and traditional Mexican music. There is parking. The drinks offered are crisp and cold, perfect for warm days. There are clean restrooms for men and women with potable water; however, they are not wheelchair accessible. The service is prompt, and the dishes are generously portioned and reasonably priced. Payment can be made in cash or by bank transfer.
We just had one of their fermented corn Mayan drinks. I won't say I liked it very much but it was interesting to try. They have different options plus food. It's a family place, very quiet, outdoors.
The food took forever and never even arrived at our table. When the first course finally did arrive, it was by mistake because it was meant for the table next to us, which had also been waiting a long time. No exaggeration, we'd been waiting for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Let's break down my review: Food - average, nothing spectacular Price - standard, neither cheap nor expensive Service - terrible, they forgot my entire order & since they were about to close (even though we arrived at 4:50 and they close at 6) they ran out of ingredients and left me without food. I ordered two appetizers and one main dish, and they brought me nothing but the cured meat. Ambiance - pleasant; if they improved the service and attention, it could be good. It's a work in progress.
