Chang'An in Tustin offers an immersive dining experience designed as a miniature cultural museum of Shaanxi cuisine. The elegant interior features authentic Chinese elements that transport guests into history while they enjoy exceptional service. Renowned for its spectacular Peking Duck presentation and carving performance, the restaurant also delights with rich Hot and Sour Soup and premium Wagyu Fried Rice. Although prices reflect high-end quality, the cozy ambiance makes it a perfect choice for special celebrations and intimate gatherings. Every dish on this unique menu honors tradition, ensuring that diners not only savor delicious food but also appreciate the depth of Chinese culture in every bite.
Chang'An Tustin is known for its impressive interior and upscale Shaanxi cuisine, especially the Peking Duck, which requires pre-ordering. While many praise the food and ambiance, some find it overpriced and service inconsistent, with a few reporting negative experiences.
Tip: Make a reservation and pre-order the Peking Duck to ensure you experience the flaming presentation. Be ready with your phone to capture the short flame show.

One of the best Chinese fine dinning restaurants I've ever been in California. 10/10 for interior design. Magnificent decoration! Restaurant looks a bit hidden and low profile from the outside, but inside is definitely Impressive! We ordered almost 10 dishes, for 7 people, every dish was great. Delicious and unique. Peking duck, the beef, shrimps+lychee, and fish are great. However, Peking Duck and fish fishes were quite pricey. It's recommended to pre-order Peking duck in advance. Service was great.
Party of 2 went for a celebratory lunch on a Friday in September. We had made a reservation via phone call a day in advance, and they had asked us to be ready for the duck carving performance to begin at 12:15pm. The flame show lasts only 5-10 seconds, so be ready with your phones if you want a nice photo/video. The duck itself was cooked to perfection, with the staff separating it into crispy skin, and a couple different levels of crispness for the interior meat for us, and the presentation is also very nice. We went through 3 bowls of pita plus a couple of cocktails. They provide enough hot sauce with nuts, hoisin sauce, sugar, cucumber, pear, scallions, and were always around asking if we needed any extra. Total before tips came to around 200$. The interior decor of the restaurant is really nice, and I also quite liked the architecture of the plaza in general. Easy to find a parking spot although the area in general was crowded.
The Best Peking Duck in all OC!!! If you’re searching for the best Peking Duck in all of Orange County, look no further than Chang’An in Tustin. This is not just dinner — it’s a presentation and an experience. The duck is brought out whole and carved tableside with such precision that it feels almost ceremonial. The skin is glistening and perfectly crisp, while the meat is tender, juicy, and full of flavor. What makes it even more special is that the Peking Duck is served both smoked and non-smoked, so you get to enjoy the best of both preparations in one meal. They’ll present slices of each style so you can taste the contrast, and it’s truly unforgettable. Just make sure to pre-order the duck in advance when making your reservation, because it’s the highlight of the menu and always in demand. It’s served with pillowy buns, thin pancakes, and the classic condiments so you can build your perfect bite. The balance of textures and flavors is outstanding. I usually pair it with their cilantro onion salad, which is light, refreshing, and the perfect counterbalance to the richness of the duck. It rounds out the meal beautifully without overshadowing the star of the show. Truly, the Peking Duck at Chang’An is unmatched in Orange County. From the flawless presentation to the unforgettable taste, this dish alone is worth the trip. Highly recommend for anyone who wants an authentic and elevated dining experience.
We took our mom here to celebrate her bday lunch. We want to experience high end quality Chinese Food. Nice atmosphere, cozy ambiance, but the price is quite high. The Wagyu Fried Rice portion kinda small for $68. If ordered extra condiments for the roasted duck after finished the one round that came with it each cost $5 for slice radish, cucumber and scallions. And the condiments we ordered the portion came out was smaller and we paid extra $15 for that condiments The Roasted Duck included that condiments and the wraps is already $148 for 1 duck. Food tasted good don’t get me wrong but the price is a little high compare to the one in Irvine with higher rent. It was an experience though. Mapo Tofu with Wagyu beef is $32 added white rice is $4.95 small bowl. If u want order white rice to eat with Mapo Togu. Wagyu Fried Rice is $68 portion is small as well. Need 2 orders to serve 4 but we had 5 but it was fine with 5 people. Picture looks big because I did close up pic. Just come try out and be your own judge.
We had our Father's Day lunch here after a glowing recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. We were here for the Peking duck but the other dishes impressed as well. Service was friendly and the ambiance was classy and comfortable. Will return for sure!
So glad we found this place in town although we are not living in the area. Besides the roasted duck , there are a lot of good options from the menu. As a classy reservation only restaurant, all dishes are made from scratch with house recipes. Highly recommend the delicacy Sea Cucumber with Millet. Nice texture with house special stock, light seasoning, very healthy. We don’t see this very often in most Asian restaurants. The crispy beef rolls were delicious. The filling was nice and the super crunchy wrap with a lot of roasted sesame seeds was the best part. Stir fried wild Chilies and sliced beef was on the savory side with nice chili peppers kicks. Service was very good and efficient. Nice ambiance with perfect lighting and interior design. Will definitely be back.
Enjoyed a fantastic lunch with exquisite Shaanxi dishes!!! Love their duck dishes, prepared the traditional way, with a variety of flavors. Incredibly delicious, esp. the smoke duck😋😋😋 Loved their cold noodle dish with brown sesame sauce and short ribs, perfection!!! Lobster and fish were amazing too! A great place to celebrate any special event or just enjoy food and celebrate life🥳
Good food and good service! We have great time ! We have been waiting for the restaurant to be open for so long ~ when we know they are opening i took my parents there for dinner! I order my duck when i make my reservation ! I have to say they have the best roasted duck in CA ~ When we first walk in to the restaurant feel like museums, great place to come with friends! They try to keep good social distance on each table , not over book they reservation! If you like to go Make sure you call for reservations!
I found this one of the best Chinese restaurants in Orange county. We enjoyed everything, from food, service to the atmosphere they provided. Their dishes were in general more expensive (25% plus) than most of the others in the surrounding areas, but the entire experience was worthwhile. It was not crowded/noisy and their service was excellent. For food, I loved how they made Peking duck (Chang'an roasted duck) elevated. It was prepared for three-way enjoyment, 1) flamed duck skins, 2) thin sliced duck meat for pancakes, and 3) smoked duck meat. The flamed duck skins were not as crispy as we thought (well, that was the idea of flaming the duck). The smoker, however, did an excellent upgrade for the duck meat. We also tried their honey grapefruit spareribs (dried plum flavor forward), and also their lychee prawns (another sweet and sour dish with a bit of heat). I found the lychee prawns more interesting. They stir-fried the prawns (instead of deep fried) to highlight the freshness, while deep fried the lychees to add another texture. We would definitely go back to try other dishes.
Amazing food! Great service! Cannot wait to be able to try the duck, all of the other tables had it and the presentation was spectacular. I started with the Hot and Sour Soup. It was nice and thick with a deep flavor. It has a little spice, but much better than being too sweet. Definitely a must have as an appetizer. We moved on to the Jellyfish. I was not a fan of the celery (though cut beautifully) it took away from the flavor. I wish they would just serve it plain as it has its own unique texture and light flavor. The Braised Abalone with Pork Belly is to die for. Such a great crunch from the Abalone, and flavor from the pork belly. Cooked to perfection and was sad when it was gone hehe. For dessert we had the I am Peach. As you can see by our pictures, presentation is important. Amazing white chocolate shell that you crack open to enjoy fresh peach and some cream. Light, yet satisfies the sweet tooth. We also ordered the Peppercorn ice cream. The ice cream was rich and had great flavor. I will caution, if you do not like pepper do not order. It has a great balance of sweet and peppery, but could be strong to many. Overall great experience and food. I cannot wait to continue through the menu. The Wagyu Fried rice had a great flavor from the meat. It's richness enhanced the other ingredients and made you want more.
We decided to go to this new restaurant called CHANG'AN TUSTIN, the first time step into the restaurant "wow" amazing interior decor and many Chinese elements feel like you were inside a museum. We pre-ordered their flaming Roast duck and it was so tasty! Restaurant ask us to be on-time because their duck is cooked to profession and timing is very important they serve it right out the duck oven making the duck skin super crispy and duck meat so juicy. Their wrapping flour paper can see through and paper thin everything was at its best. Many other dishes also comes with beautiful presentation and tasty. We really appreciate to have a tasty, beautiful and spacious place to have a wonderful dinner. We will come back again to try their other dishes next time!

This is one of the higher-end, formal Chinese restaurants in Orange County that specializes in Shaanxi cuisine. The interior design is impressive, giving the feeling of dining inside a small museum, and the ambience is definitely noteworthy. The service is attentive, although the server had a naturally loud voice that didn’t quite match the refined atmosphere. It’s not his fault—it’s just the way he speaks. The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes, not limited to Shaanxi cuisine. However, be aware that this isn’t your typical Panda Express with generous portions that fill your box. If you’re dining with more than three people, you’ll need to be quick with your chopsticks before others finish the food, as the portions are not very large. I recommend the salad—it’s excellent. The pickled fish in broth is also quite good. That said, the prices are steep, and you’re primarily paying a premium for the ambience. This is a great choice if you have important business associates in town or if you’re looking to impress a date. Otherwise, it’s more of a once-a-year type of place due to the high price tag.
A good attempt to make Chinese food more upscale but way too overpriced for what they offer. Service is good and not intrusive. The Peking duck is by far the most popular choice but the tea smoked duck is pretty good as well, with nice handmade buns. Also the Shanghai smoked fish is good. And yes the ambience is very good as well.
Peking Duck at Chang’An Tustin is a true culinary experience that blends tradition, elegance, and rich flavor. The duck is expertly roasted to achieve a perfectly crispy, golden-brown skin while keeping the meat underneath tender, juicy, and flavorful. What makes it special at Chang’An is the live tableside carving presentation. The chef skillfully slices the duck right in front of you, adding a sense of luxury and performance to your meal. The duck is served with thin pancakes, cucumber, scallions, and hoisin sauce — a classic combination that balances savory, sweet, and fresh textures in every bite. This isn’t just a dish — it’s a celebration of Chinese culinary heritage, and a must-try for anyone visiting Chang’An.
High end Chinese food Main attraction is Peking duck which needs to be reserved ahead of time. Very pricey. Nice atmosphere and decor.
It is a very expensive place to eat. Come here if you want to impress your friends and out of towners. But if you just want good high-end Chinese food, there are much cheaper and better options. Expect to spend $600-700 for 4 without alcohol. Service is ok but for a high-end restaurant, you definitely always feel rushed! The duck is THE dish to order. You have to order in advance when you place the reservation. They put on a show and carve the duck in front of the table. Very easy to make a reservation nowadays since it's not so crowded.

Food: the duck is exceptional good, very close to peking duck in China. But this is the only item that is good. Too bad they limit their best dish to one per table. All the other dishes are mediocre at best. The taste is plain. Price: expensive for medium service. The restaurant is no-where near fine dining service yet they’re charging you rate above fine dining service. Atmosphere: nice decoration, old chinese style. But not a kids friendly restaurants as there are many loose object and kids don’t sit still. Value: overall bad value.

The duck is probably the only dish that is worth a try although interior staging really gives you the feeling of a high end restaurant. Other than that, you can probably get the same quality of food at a much cheaper price in most Chinese restaurants, even in Irvine. Smoked duck meat is really special and the best dish of all. The reason I gave two stars for the service was mainly because the waiter kept telling us that what we ordered was not enough for everyone and pushed us to order more. In the end, we couldn't finish all. Also, one of the veggie dishes he recommended was actually soup. But we already had one soup for everyone, why would we need more soup? It's something he could remind us beforehand. I don't mind paying a mandatory 20% tip but the service is really not on par with what it is charged. For around $80/person, I think there are many more better places in the area.

Kinda regret dining here. The prices are high, but the quality is low. My lamb chop was dry and had an odd, unpleasant flavor. It was practically inedible. The service was not quite good. The staff was not attentive and seemed unhappy to be there. Considering the high cost and poor quality of both the food and service, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I had a light lunch with a friend at Chang 'an, the week prior, pretty good. So we went last night for a birthday celebration - very disappointing! Our party of four resisted all the appetizers. Udon peanut butter cold noodles, cilantro onion salad etc. But worst of all was their signature flaming duck. We got the whole duck and there was very little meat. The portion of the duck they smoked was awful. Finally the wonton soup - skip it! $500 later/4 people!!!! Ambiance is gorgeous, staff was quite attentive. Food was an extreme disappointment.
Food was ok but they charged us sliced onions for 5 bucks wow unbelievable!!!!! it worth less than dime You guys should have provided us for free
We recently dined at this restaurant and wanted to share our experience. Unfortunately, we felt the overall value did not meet our expectations. The lamb chops did not seem very fresh, and the texture of the beef tongue was softer than we prefer. The $28 juice appeared to be poured from a large container, which was surprising given the price. We were also served tea, but it was unclear how to get a refill, and we ended up refilling it ourselves. We hope the restaurant can improve these details, as they could make a big difference in the overall dining experience.
Super racist against non-Chinese patrons. Never have I experienced this type of establishment. This place is by far the worst service and over priced places we have been to. The staff was rude and management unresponsive. We came here for a slotted Thanksgiving meal. They rushed us so much by bringing every food possible within the first 5 minutes after repeatedly asking them can we bring out the drinks first. Spoke to their manager and explained our issue, and 5 minutes later they came back and kept it going even after we repeatedly asked them to just slow down for a little bit. The strange thing I noticed is we were the only non-Chinese party in this restaurant, my wife is Persian and they served all the other groups who were all Chinese with courtesy and the usual speed of service at a normal restaurants. Simply terrible place. Very disappointing and ruined the whole experience.
