Opinions de Sushi Wasabi Tustin
I was curious about this whole in the wall omakase place so I came by on a Tuesday lunchtime and mannnn is was some of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. The quality is honestly better than some expensive sushi restaurants I’ve been to. Definitely will be back since I live quite close by.
Been going here for years since I was in high school with my family. The owners changed but the quality and delicacy of the fish is still the same. Some of the best sushi you will ever have.
Came here for lunch, a little hole in the wall spot. They only offered omakase but it was very reasonably priced so we sat down. The waitress was very friendly and the food came out at the perfect timing. The blue crab hand roll and the tuna belly sushi were my favorite in the omakase set. 10/10 would come back!
Great sushi restaurant and great experience their omakase. Fresh and well decorated dish. I enjoyed all their omakase dishes.
Excellent omakase! Each piece was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. Service was attentive and friendly.
Best Omakaze so far~~. Blue crab hand roll was the best and oyster was very fresh and delicious. Desert was good.
This is our favorite sushi restaurant! Highest quality fish and traditional sushi I have ever had. But watch out- it's a little pricey (and addicting!).

We had such a special time at Sushi Wasabi. The restaurant is super cute and cozy with Japanese decor inside. They served Omokase, or Chefs Special, which was beautifully displayed with excellent service by the staff / owners. The fish was some of the best sushi we’ve ever had. Highly recommend visiting!
(Note: This review is in regards to their stay-at-home takeout.) I have been living 5 minutes away and didn't know about this wonderful sushi establishment until recently when another Facebook user posted it on an OC Suggested Eats (during the pandemic) recommendation. After seeing the recommendation, I've tried out two of their dishes - the chirashi bowl (about $25) and the deluxe nigiri set (about $50) - both of which are absolutely delicious. First off, the sushi here is quality. The fish selections; the cut; the freshness - they are all here. I've now been here three times and each time, I wasn't disappointed by any of the sushi orders. The standout order is the deluxe nigiri set. You get a set of 11 different sushi items - my set included uni, which I haven't had since the beginning of the pandemic and was so delicious. It came with a handroll (I believe I ordered the blue crab) which was additionally just super solid. You had to roll it yourself with clear, easy instructions and was absolutely a delight. The chriashi bowl is a much smaller portion of a meal but the sushi quality is chirashi as good. The miso soup that the chirashi bowl comes with is super solid as well. The presentation is also exquisite for a takeout order. It's carefully prepared for both the set and chirashi orders and they did include an ice pack if I was taking a little longer than expected. Ordering is super easy - just call in and they're usually able to get your order done in 20-30 minutes depending how busy they are. They are also super kind (usually just the server and the sushi chef when I went in - masks required). Their updated menu can be found here on Yelp and they do sell various sake and beer (I believe at a little bit of a discount). I hope they're able to make it during these tough times as I'd love to go back and dine in to get one of their omakase.
This is indeed one of the best Sushi places I've been to here in Orange County. This is a small seemingly-unappealing place, but the Japanese chef and waitress do provide you with the real Japanese Omakase experience. The sushi is really fresh and to-die-for (the rolls on the other hand are just alright).
Sushi Wasabi's been under new ownership for maybe 2 years now and we're still patrons. Is the sushi still as great as when Kats was responsible? Not quite. But even at 80-90%, they still offer some very compelling reasons to go back. (1) They're ponzu-heavy, which I am a fan of. (2) The blue crab hand roll is still tasty, although I'd prefer that the extra large lump of crab be distributed amongst the whole roll like how it was pre-changeover. The taste of the crab has slightly shifted, it's not as sweet as it used to be. (3) Kushi oysters > * (4) There's less of a wait now then there used to be, so reservations for the bar are easier to make. I'd recommend giving it a try. If you're in the mood for both ponzu and omakase, you'll enjoy Sushi Wasabi.
The best sushi I have ever had. The service was excellent. The owners know my dad and mom by name. I highly recommend Sushi Wasabi. Thank you so much for making my family feel so welcomed.
Sushi Wasabi offers an exceptional dining experience for sushi lovers. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable about both fish and sushi, ensuring that each dish is prepared with the utmost care and authenticity. The omakase here is a true standout — expertly curated, fresh, and a true testament to traditional Japanese flavors and techniques. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with attentive and welcoming staff who make every guest feel at home. If you're looking for an authentic and top-tier sushi experience, Sushi Wasabi is definitely worth a visit.
Sushi Wasabi is an absolute treasure for those who crave authentic, melt-in-your-mouth sushi. Tucked away in Tustin, this unassuming spot is all about quality over flash, and every bite reminds you why sushi is considered an art form. The Omakase here is not just a meal, it’s an experience. You can tell immediately that the fish is of the highest quality—each piece is cut with precision and presented like a gift. The toro, especially, is so rich and buttery, it practically melts on your tongue. What I loved most is how Sushi Wasabi stays true to the spirit of Edomae sushi. This isn’t the place for crazy rolls drenched in sauce—this is real sushi. You come here for the purity of the fish, the perfectly seasoned rice, and the simple, clean flavors. It’s sushi as it was meant to be, and that’s rare these days. Service is attentive without being intrusive. The staff takes their time to explain each dish and ensure you’re enjoying every moment of the meal. There’s a quiet respect for the food here. Yes, it’s not the cheapest sushi you’ll find, but for what you’re getting, it’s worth every penny. If you’re a serious sushi lover, you owe it to yourself to experience Sushi Wasabi. I’ll be coming back here again and again!
Always Great! We love the: food (of course), the service, and the atmosphere. It is usually quiet and cozy, even before the pandemic when the sushi bar was open. When they could not allow dine-in, we got takeout and we were not disappointed, the presentation and packaging were very nice and everything high quality. This is our favorite sushi restaurant, I think it's the best.
If you haven't tried Sushi Wasabi, you are missing out. Outstanding sushi and sashimi. Service is exceptional and the restaurant is always quiet which sets up well for a nice lunch with a wife, partner, client, or friend. You need to try it!!!
Prob the best blue crab hand rolls in the OC and the most consistent and affordable omakase. We love dining in and ordering take out; they keep their hand rolls incredibly fresh with their innovative packaging! Some of my favorite salmon as well!
Expensive? But worth it great sushi omakasi style. Make a reservation very limited seating

We recently ordered the omakase at Sushi Wasabi, and it was absolutely delicious. The sushi was incredibly fresh, making for an unforgettable dining experience. However, we did notice that the beer we ordered was expired, though it surprisingly still tasted fine, so no complaints there! For dessert, we tried the brown sugar tiramisu, which was amazing, though it’s more like a custard than a traditional tiramisu. Overall, it was a great meal with a few quirks, but we’ll definitely be back for more!
A great little gem hidden in a small plaza. Unfortunately during lunch time you can only order omakase $65 pp. While we were looking forward to trying other things on the menu, the omakase didn't disappoint. The quality of the fish was good. One thing to note, parking there during lunch hour can be TERRIBLE. We had to park across the street because there was no parking. Looking forward to going back and trying other things on their menu outside of the omakase.

So...for newbies, this place is a ultra low key, simple sushi place. If you are looking for frills, this is not the place for you. I wouldn't bring children that are not into sushi-fortunately mine is a sushi lover. This is a simple place that does sushi the traditional way-fresh and simple. No excessive frilly nonsense! The sushi master(one man show here) visits the fish market in L.A. every day. He purchases the fresh products and serves them the same day. There are no extra products laying around for the next day. The omakase style is a good way to sample the variety. Yes, it is expensive...you are not eating leftover sushi from the previous day. Yes, the hours are very limited...the man is in L.A. at 3 a.m. getting the freshest product every day for goodness sake! I gave them a 4 star because of the price and limited hours, not because of the quality of the food. Cheers!
