This is a really wonderful little vegetarian restaurant in the city of 10,000 buddas. The menu is limited but all of the dishes are cooked perfectly and are delicious. The service is friendly and polite. Overall a great experience.
Buddhist vegetarian restaurant serving some delicious authentic Chinese food. Great in flavor and you can feel it is fresh and light. Entire menu is No Onion/No garlic by default so suitable for Jain diet.
Amazing food, great portions, and very affordable prices! The servers were really nice too and everything on the menu is vegan. One warning: it is cash-only.
I love the food and the atmosphere at this restaurant. Abundant variety of delicious vegetarian food. The menu shows photos of the food which makes it easier to select what to order. Choice of portion sizes makes it great for individual preference and also if in a group to have a little of many items to share. Peaceful setting on the grounds of 10,000 Buddhas. Guests visiting from out of this area love to be taken here for lunch.
This place is a test of patience. Remember, its a virtue. 10/10
Perhaps the best place to eat in Ukiah. The food is fresh and healthy. I could go on for hours about the food, so just go visit and pick what looks good. Some other helpful tips though: - BRING CASH. It's cash only. - Dress modestly. Buddhists are very reserved people (physically), and they are literally inviting you to their home. - Don't be loud or disrespectful. Again, this is someone's home. - Go wander the grounds, but stay on the sidewalks, and be respectful of the signs. Enjoy!
Well, who would have expected to find a place like this in Ukiah??? While you're there to enjoy the extensive vegan menu (and it is extensive) be sure to walk the grounds. See the peacocks, the pond, the status and the huge incense censor. The restaurant is simple and a bit old but it's comfortable and the food is great. The dumplings are fantastic and don't leave without trying the Ginger golden balls.
This restaurant has a large dining area, but it can get crowded. They offer complex vegetarian dishes as week as simple soups that taste delicious. None of their dishes have any onion or garlic since it is located in a Buddhist temple. Still delicious & healthy to boot!
Lovely little Dining place. The food is well priced and has good flavor. Many options for gluten free and all vegan. Allergies aren't much of an issue here just make sure staff are fully aware and they will happily cater to you.
A no frills but extremely delicious vegetarian Chinese restaurant on the grounds of a Buddhist temple. The food is cheap, fresh and delicious and unique (around these parts). There is plenty of that delicious wok breath and umami in each dish. I highly recommend not only the food but to take a quick walk over to the temple to peak inside. There are plenty of year round events to attend and if you can make it to one you are also in for a treat so check the bulletin board in front of the restaurant for upcoming events.
Every dish served in the restaurant is all vegan so you don't worry about any ingredients. Only cash so no credit card. They can also make gluten free food. You just tell them when you order your dishes. They can also customize your dishes based on your personal preferences: +/- salt, less oil, etc. I bet you would like the food. I would recommend it to all my friends.
This is a nice place for vegetarians! I myself am not, but I still thought the food was delicious! I'm definitely going back!
Came here when I was a child in 90's during Buddhist camp. I can still remember the smell of fried sesame oil in the air. In my memory, it's one of the greatest, most nostalgic thing I've ever eaten. I'm hoping to come back here one day so I can try the vegetarian sweet and sour pork with rice again.
There are peacocks around generally. Could be "hard" to find but it's not Walk to 10,000 Buddha's room like a cool museum after it's real. Offer bento box for lunch but I never tried so far No onion or garlic Try the fried mushrooms
One of best vegetarian food I ever had. The place is quite underrated. It's open from 11am untill 3 pm. Staffs are very friendly and food is really delicious. Ask them about what's good according to them and you probably won't be disappointed.
One of my favorite places to eat! Such a great way to introduce vegetarian food to anyone who has never had it. The food has so much flavor. Every bite is amazing. A must go to place to eat.
As a life long vegetarian, I was impressed! Wonderful food! My friend who is a meat eater thought it was great. Service was good. You might share a table with strangers, but it was ok.
Housed in a former state hospital for the insane, this place has received little cosmetic attention from its new owners. Bizzar history aside this location offers fantastic food and is open on major American holidays like thanksgiving and Christmas. Monks are present through the the grounds and can be seen meditating in the main temple.
I love this place!!! Every time I'm in town, I come to visit the temple to pay respects then get lunch or dinner to go. Great place for herbivores and carnivores. Reminder, if you would like any of the free literature, please make a nice donation so they may keep the restaurant open.
The food is delicious and ingredients grown on campus. I visted over 10 years ago and it's exactly the same. Just as delicious. Just as peaceful. The people who work here just as kind. Most dishes can be made gluten free which is great for celiacs!!!
One of the best veg dishes restaurant. After coming to US, i never have eaten such delicious veg food. Reasonably charged, friendly staff, quick serving, and very importantly positive vibes. The taste is still so fresh! Would highly recommend!
Located within The City of Ten Thousand Buddha's complex in Talmage, just outside of Ukiah, is the Jyun Kang Vegetarian Restaurant serving lunch to its community and the public Thursday through Mondays. They serve an vegetarian menu delicious in content but not large in scope. Today my friends and I shared stir fried eggplant with Thai basil, Singapore fried rice vermicelli, vegetable pot stickers and combination fried rice. It was a perfect lunch for three. The menu has something for everyone but one should know in the Buddhist tradition they forego garlic and onions in their dishes yet their dishes are flavorful and range in spice from mild to spicy. I have been there many times and today it was the least crowded it's been often I've had a short wait for a table. If you try the Jyun Kang Vegetarian Restaurant you should also pay a short visit to the Temple hall that you'll pass on the way in. Whether a Buddhist or person of other faith or none at all, the Temple Hall with it's ten thousand Buddha's creates a feeling of calm serenity. It would be a shame to be missed.
A wonderful vegetarian Chinese food restaurant. The dishes have great flavor. This time I ordered the konjac dish. By the way they accept cash.
A must try if you enjoy vegetarian dishes. The menu is not overwhelming. You will find options sure to please. The dining room is modest. Service was good. Appropriate for this community. Portions are fair. Quality is very good. Prices are reasonable. We were satisfied and will be back.
Cash only!! Very interesting experience to stop at this Buddhist community for lunch. The food was excellent and we saw lots of peacocks. I loved the Japanese noodles, broccoli, dumplings, and spring rolls.
Indulging in the artful vegetarian creations meticulously crafted by a monk within the serene confines of a Buddhist temple was nothing short of extraordinary. Each dish tantalized the taste buds with exquisite flavors, leaving a lasting impression of culinary delight. The prices, despite their modesty, offered generous portions, making this experience even more remarkable. I will always treasure this wonderful culinary experience.
They just reopened. The menu is a smaller temporary menu with fewer choices. Food is still delicious. My favorite vegan restaurant. Dumplings and spring rolls are delicious. Even my meat eating friends enjoy having meals there! The price is also really reasonable. They have different prices for small or large plate.
This is by far the tastiest Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. The restaurant is also vegan, and being vegetarian I loved that I could order anything from the menu. I loved the curry stir fried noodles here. It was so good, that we ended up making a special trip from Mendocino on our way back to order a ton of it to eat at home in SF over the weekend. And the prices are unbelievably low! My wife and I could easily share a large order which costs ~$8. Highly recommended if you are in the area (or even make a special trip). We also tried dumplings, egg plant sauce, curry noodle soup and everything was amazing.
Wonderful little restaurant. Thank you! Good vibes.
Small and very little seating, but the food is worth it. The grounds around the restaurant area lovely. Peacocks and deer frolicking around what is rumored to be the old mental hospital...
Phenomenal authentic Buddhist vegetarian cuisine. Awesome experience here culturally, quite affordable prices, excellent vegan items. Definitely work checking out on a visit or regular basis. Good spot.
What an amazing experience. I felt like I was in a completely different world. The food was so good, even my paleo boyfriend was satisfied with his vegan soup and vegetables. Cash only, so be forewarned, and buy a bottle of the grape juice. I'm serious. It is made with wine grapes, and people always leave with a few extra bottles. My boyfriend and I were no exception.
The food here is so amazing. The staff is really friendly. The place was at full capacity when I visited. The food here is completely sathwik. I don't know how they make the food taste so food with minimum spice and no onion garlic in the food. The food is asian.

Great vegetarian place with wonderful options! We got 4 dishes - Singaporean noodles, dumplings, seaweed something, green bean curd - and loved all of them! The location is very serene!
The food is so amazing here. Comforting and delicious. Very busy, cash only.
We were the third table filled after opening, and ordered a lot of food, about 8 different things, since we planned to take some with us. The food arrived very quickly. We have been coming here for years and it is simply the best. Love the dumplings and the sweet and sour balls.
It's so refreshing to find delicious vegan food in such a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. We will certainly return!
Great place to eat lunch with an excellent quality of Vegitarian dishes. We will be back for sure❣️
I Feel so fortunate to have this restaurant so close. Excellent food. It's simply a straight forward vegetarian restaurant. So hard to find these days !

Being a vegetarian, I like the fact that I can eat everything on the menu, and the group I was with nearly did. The appetizers were especially delicious. I was worried that no onion or garlic would mean no flavor, but everything was really tasty, and surprisingly inexpensive. It's an experience just to get to the restaurant. With the beautiful peacocks roaming around and the cool street names, it gives this place a great ambience. And to think the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas used to be a state mental hospital!
This is not your regular American Chinese restaurant. I'm not sure if it was authentic, but it was very different and in not a bad way. The food felt very fresh. The prices are extremely reasonable. Service was slow, but I don't blame them. It's not a conventional for profit restaurant. It's located within a Buddhist temple area and they run this restaurant for the visiting devotees. Overall, it's a great place to get some nice food.
Option to test Chinese vegetarian food at reasonable price.
Good delicious foods cook fresh and serve hot
Chinese cuisine and vegan, this is a rare find combo and this restaurant does it really well. The dishes are authentic and rich in flavors. It's a must-visit for vegan food lovers.
Never would have found this without Google Maps, it's at the back of a former state hospital that was converted into a Buddhist compound in the early 70s. Well-executed vegan Chinese food. Dumplings didn't look like the menu and really needed salt. The house special mint eggplant was the best, very tasty. Tea was seaweedy in a good way. Reasonable prices and attentive service. Plus the payphone outside works if your pocket computer is dead and you need to call 1996.

This restaurant is within a Buddhist monestary. We drove past peacocks, squirrels, and deer on our way in. The building exterior is cute and modest decor inside. Service was very quick and friendly. I am a fan of the eggplant basil. The food is good, moderately priced (cash only!!), and all vegan! If you plan to get takeout or take extra food to go, please bring your own containers to reduce waste 💚
I love the idea of going to vegetarian restaurants in the temple because I had such positive experience back in southern California but this one certainly not in my want to go back list. The food was great but the service was lack of letting you know what is exactly important ingredients in the dish especially if you are allergic to peanut they use peanut oil for deep-frying stuff which in the menu didn't show they just print that " if you have food allergies please let us know " and we did but they should have recommended us not to order deep fry menu since we can't eat peanut but instead they cook the food probably half way already then come to us and tell us. The price was high for such little potion that in fact all the ingredients are tofu and vegetables which cheaper that meat. Not going back for sure.
