Dining at Gigi and Chiara's is like dining at a friend's house. They offer traditional local dishes, cooked authentically and with a true love for sourcing locally sourced ingredients. Chiara carefully explains each dish and knows every single one of the recipes and traditional stories that accompany them, as well as every bottle of wine selected. Barbera reigns supreme, from lesser-known wineries but with exceptional vintages. Every dinner is an experience. Thank you for existing!

Trattoria Consolini, in Travagliato, not far from Brescia. A modern restaurant offering local cuisine with a four-course menu or a choice of dishes from the menu. We sought it out to try the famous "Travagliatina," inappropriately named "Florentine" horse steak, which, however, requires advance reservation. We started with an appetizer of select prosciutto and tongue, both delicious. Two first courses, Brescian tripe and ravioli, were also available; but we were looking for meat, so we chose the "Florentine" horse steak, having not ordered the "Travagliatina" with potatoes. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful; the only complaint was that the dish wasn't reheated, and the meat tended to cool quickly. The side dish was very good. The wine was excellent, a Franciacorta Satèn, but I didn't remember it. Desserts included the "cartellatte" with mascarpone and rum cream, which were delicious and homemade, but the shortcrust pastry was perhaps a bit tough.
