Repetiremos seguro!!
It has to be said that Cara Almendra's restaurant is well worth a visit. I came with high hopes but also with some doubts about whether my expectations were too high. However, from the moment you walk in and are greeted, you realize you made an excellent choice. The atmosphere is fantastic, the food is very good, and the service is exquisite. From the complimentary Gilda to the dessert and coffee, everything is delicious. Special thanks to Octavio, who advised us and took fabulous care of us. We will definitely be back. We will recommend them.
Best food and servicio ever!
Nice place, relaxed atmosphere. Good food and service.
Excellent food !
Excellent
We had a scrumptious lunch, the set menu is great! The staff was professional and friendly, plus the place itself was very cool between a choice of indoor and outdoor space. Don’t leave without trying their grilled cheese cake :)
Brutal !!!
The portions are amazing for the price, very good wine and the service is impeccable. I will return 👍
Recomendable.
We went to this restaurant as a family for lunch. The service was exceptional; everyone was very attentive and friendly. The food was very good, and the preparation was excellent. However, I felt that given their prices (which aren't cheap), it was a bit excessive to charge €3.50 per portion for even bread. I think they should reconsider some of their excessive practices.
We had it on our list, and this year, to celebrate our anniversary, we decided to go and try it. You can get there by car; there's free parking at the entrance. The establishment is quite large, with a txoko (a traditional Basque social club) in addition to the restaurant, which I imagine must be a real treat at other times of the year. The first thing you see upon arrival is the meat preparation area and the display of T-bone steaks that immediately makes your mouth water. At the entrance, the maître d' confirmed our reservation (2 people at 3:15 pm) and showed us to our table. The interior dining room is circular, with wooden decor and a large wine cellar. Our table was round, for more than two people, so we had plenty of space. Upon arrival, they serve a complimentary Gilda (a type of pintxo) per person—a lovely touch (I love them!). They also come to take our drink order. Since we had just had a drink, we told them we preferred to wait for the wine we chose with our meal. By the way, they have a good wine list with selections from all over the region and reasonable prices. We chose a single-varietal Syrah, which we really like, DO Alella (always supporting local wines). Since we were aiming for meat, we only ordered the cod omelet as a starter, which disappointed us. Not because it was too runny, but because the pieces of onion and green pepper were too large, overpowering all the flavor, and the little cod that was there was barely noticeable. As for the T-bone steaks, you have several options. We chose the Hereford (€59/kg), which we hadn't tried before, but which we'd read was a good choice. We asked how it worked, and they told us they bring you a couple of options so you can choose the one that suits you best. In our case, they offered us the two smallest they had at that moment, about 1400 grams each. They bring it sliced on a metal tray with nothing to heat it up, so we decided to have it medium-rare, just to be safe. It was perfectly cooked, but not piping hot, so you have to eat quickly to avoid it getting cold. We liked it, but it's not the best we've ever had. Regarding the side dishes, the price per kilo is only for the meat; it doesn't include anything else. As I mentioned to the waiter, the menu is misleading, since the prices for the side dishes are listed under the fish. We chose the €6 tray of unlimited homemade fries. The first batch seemed reheated, but we decided to order another to finish off the rest of our meat, and they were much better. You could tell they were freshly made. Another thing I didn't like was that there was a girl in the dining room distributing and replenishing bread on the tables, and we had to ask her for it, and even then, she never came back to our table. It's a place where the food is good, the service is adequate, and that's about it.
First visit. The food quality was good. The cod cheeks were great and the T-bone steak was very good, but the prices were exorbitant. We ordered an assortment of six croquettes, and they were all the same except for one ham croquette, which was the best. I think the rest were mushroom croquettes, but they were generally very bland. We had to ask the staff if it was a mistake or if something had happened to make them all the same. The answer was that they had run out of the other flavors, which is why they were all the same. For the price of the croquettes, I think they should warn you in advance. The restaurant's response to this error was to offer us complimentary coffees, which we thought was a fair gesture. The rest of the food was fine. €240 for two adults and two children aged 8 and 5. It's true that we ordered a lot. But as I mentioned at the beginning, it's outrageous. One positive thing to highlight is the place itself. A cozy spot.
Last Monday, December 1st, we went to eat at the Aupa restaurant, skipping the outdoor tent because it was a bit chilly; the interior was also cold, but we didn't realize it. The heating system isn't adequate, and to make matters worse, the customers, waiters, and kitchen staff use doors that open directly to the outside. The main room is nice and spacious; comfortable if it's a tavern, but not if it's a restaurant that claims to be one of the good ones. The wine list is very good; comparing the retail prices of some well-known wines, you can see that the à la carte prices aren't excessive. We ordered an Emilio Mauro, but they were out. We ordered a Gramona Rosat (Corpinat), and they weren't available either. In the end, we opted for a Gramona Imperial. The bottle came from a multi-zone cooler at a temperature that seemed a bit high, but it was quickly placed in an ice bucket. The cava was served in a very low-quality glass—thick, warped glass, so warped that the glass wasn't even vertical. Indeed, the cava wasn't served at the recommended temperature. The food; of course, everyone enjoys a gratinéed spider crab from time to time. It's worth the 20-minute wait, except that when it's served, it looks tiny for €45 and isn't very good. The crab meat is very well disguised, as is its flavor. Understandable! I don't remember ever eating such low-quality spider crab, and I'm 69 years old. The tortilla was excellent, the "skin" very thin to contain the texture of the eggs, roasted onions, and potatoes. The temperature was perfect. Bravo, a 5! We ordered two grilled sirloin steaks with roasted piquillo peppers. The meat was very good; a "purist" might criticize the cleanliness of the meat and the appearance of the outer cut. This could be the reason why it's served sliced. There is a real problem, unacceptable in a restaurant that claims to specialize in red meat. We ordered the sirloin steaks very rare, and they served the meat a little cold on a rather cold plate. We tried the bread; it's a good bread to eat, with an excellent crust and a good crumb, even though it's not a high-hydration bread. It has a subtle sourdough flavor—truly a good bread that doesn't overpower the taste of the food. If it didn't cost €3.50 a slice, it would be even better. Dessert: Grilled Chucho. The well-known Xuixo from Girona, a local specialty. Well, we ate a cake shaped like a Chucho. I must say, the shape was so perfect it was visually appealing. Xuixo lovers know what it is; it's not a pasty dough with a thin cream filling. The only crunch in the Aupa version is the sugar, burnt from the grill. Disappointing. In conclusion, if price isn't a concern, you'll eat well if you don't get cold. If you're looking to enjoy a Txangurro (spider crab) for just a few euros more, go straight to Botafumeiro. For €190 for two people, there are plenty of options at Michelin-starred or Repsol-rated restaurants, really. There's no shortage of Basque restaurants and taverns in Barcelona where you can eat pintxos, tortillas, meat dishes… but we won't be returning.
I don’t know if this is always like this, the food is very good, but in all my years I have never seen such chaos in the service, we we were n’t angry, we were constantly laughing, it was like fawlty Towers , complete chaos 😂😂
We went at 17.50 for dinner, only sandwiches and tapas until 20.00h and only in one central area. The nice parts were closed. So yeah...we left hungry
Very nice place, the food is fantastic. But come here if you have half a day available. Just crazy how much time does it take! We came for lunch during the working day, what is supposed to be quite fast. Menu included the ice cream. It took 20 min to bring it, despite se said that we were in hurry!!
Txapela was nothing like I would have expected. The large "bocadillo" I asume would be more like real bread like baguette, but might have been too much so early in the morning. The txapela was a total disappointment, small for the price and bread more like bimbo than real bread...
Agur!!
Aupa Restaurant First of all, I should mention that there were six of us. After watching the videos and hearing about the restaurant's reputation, we decided to go, expecting excellent food, but for me, the experience was disappointing. Let me explain, starting with the appetizers. Appetizers Assorted croquettes: Seeing how they were prepared and how creamy they looked, I thought they would be delicious. First disappointment: creamy? Not at all. They were well-fried on the outside, but the inside was a bland, tasteless mess. Cheese board: The cheeses were good, but for the price, the portions were very small. Not much else to add. Cod cheeks in pil-pil sauce: Another disappointment. The pil-pil sauce was nonexistent; it was simply hot oil with parsley. The cod cheeks had practically no flavor—awful. Main course Then came the main course: the rib-eye steaks (Hereford and Ox/Viking). Nothing special, and with several problems. The first issue is that, naturally, so much meat gets cold, and they don't provide any kind of hot stone or grill if you want to cook it more or simply keep it warm. When it cools down, you have to call the waiter to take it to the kitchen and reheat it, which means walking the meat around the restaurant, and then it's not the same. We ordered it medium-rare, but the fat wasn't browned, and the meat was somewhat chewy. It tasted good, yes, but for the price, it's not worth it. Not to mention the cutlery: plain knives, without serrations, that didn't cut anything. The potatoes are unlimited, but they were sweet and not fried, but rather poached, soggy, and with too much oil. Another disappointment. The bread is also unlimited, but each slice costs €3.50. It was tasty, but every time you wanted more, you had to call the waiter, which eventually made you not want to order any more. Desserts I thought they wouldn't disappoint here… but another letdown. We ordered a cream-filled pastry: it was hard, cold, and the cream inside was also hard. The French toast looked good and wasn't bad at all, but it was basically just a piece of toasted bread, with no creaminess whatsoever. Coffee With the prices they charge, I thought at least the coffee wouldn't disappoint… but it didn't. It arrived late, and to top it off, we ordered two carajillos (coffee with brandy) and the waitress didn't know which was which. She told us they were already made, but they arrived cold, so who knows how long they'd been preparing them before serving. However, the bill arrived the second we asked for it, tachograph included. Conclusion Overall, a disappointing experience. Final rating: 2.5 out of 5. Thanks for replying. First of all, second, I'm not about to be a judge on MasterChef, but neither are you. And third, to finish, you only need to look at your reviews for the food you serve, and don't worry, as you say, I won't be back. Cheers.
