What a lovely pub. Food was superb and amazing service with friendly and helpful staff. We were staying at the Sussex Topiary Park Campsite just down the road and that’s highly recommended too along with the Fox Inn.

Well worth a try, great food, good beers ,nice atmosphere, bit busy traffic wise for outdoor drinking but worth putting up with.

Great place to have lunch after a local walk. The king prawn and chorizo linguine was so delicious and the staff were friendly and efficient.

Went out for Sunday lunch which was absolutely 💯 I had chicken - HALF a chicken! - the vegetables were cooked to perfection. Obviously, we had a dessert which was not too overwhelming. I don't drink but had a brand of Tonic water that I have never had before but was lovely but my other half was not as happy with the 'pumps' ... he likes a smooth bitter 😞 Lovely fire in the bar area which made it very cosy but where we sat had no heat so a bit chilly Definitely will go back, we really liked the pub, the Team and the feeling of it still being a "local" - really recommend it 🩷

Came here to meet a friend on a Saturday afternoon as it was roughly halfway between us. It was the first time we'd been. As it was a lovely day, we opted to sit outside. There was a canopy over some of the seating area -perfect for shade lovers. We both wanted a light bite so we went for sandwiches. I had the beef brisket toastie with chips. It was one of the most incredible pub lunches I've ever had! The toastie was FILLED with beef, the sourdough bread was divine and the chips were delicious! I couldn't finish it all and couldn't even find room for dessert 😭 When the bill came, I was honestly shocked. For the brilliant service, quality and amount of food, I'd expected it to be a lot higher! I'll definitely be recommending the Fox Inn to local friends and hopefully meeting my friend here again soon so I can try the treacle tart I desperately wanted!

It has taken a long long time to find a pub that serves a Sunday roast worth recommending. At the Fox Inn it was perfect. We hadn't booked so it was a chance we took and it paid off. Next time we go we are definitely booking so we are not Disappointed. We arrived about 20 minutes after it opened and after we sat down it was a steady stream of people arriving. Definitely pre book if you can. The menu was a good mixture but I had the chicken breast roast and we also ordered the lamb roast. The food arrived in about 10 to 15 minutes. The food tasted great. Veg wasn't overcooked and the gravy was just right. Its the closest I've tried that matched home cooking. Thanks to the staff and we will be returning.

Hadn’t been here in 10+ years and wasn’t sure what to expect but have to say it was a superb Sunday lunch. Very well priced, big portions, friendly service and great tasting food. We’ll definitely visit again, possibly on another day to try out the standard menu

The staff are brilliant and very accommodating towards families, the outdoor seating area and inside are both cosy and well maintained. The food is restaurant quality in a pub, at low pub prices compared to other pubs in Sussex / Surrey. Homemade beer "sourdough IPA" and sourdough bread baked daily, I love this place.

The Fox Inn is one of the most amazing Inns we‘ve visited during our time in the UK. We were welcomed friendly & felt comfortable immediately. The staff was lovely & caring. The food was absolutely amazing, we haven‘t eaten that good for a while!!! We loved the wine, the atmosphere, the backyard and the furniture. If we‘re ever in the area again, we‘ll definitely come here again.

Lunch. Sandwiches were delicious, my friend had chips with his and I had Czech soup which was very tasty. Treacle tart for pudding was perfect too, not too sweet with vanilla ice cream. Great value and friendly service, thankyou

Went there too early for food, as the kitchen starts at 6pm. So, we need to drink more beers. And the soup was niceee, just over grizzly. Had pork beef, it was nyuuum..and enough portion. Keep it up 💪🏽

Wonderful pub, went for a drink one night, loved it so went back for Sunday Roast and it was delicious. Had the trio of meats and the pork was especially devine.

Warm welcome. Great setting sitting at a trestle table overlooking a grassy lawn sloping away and a huge ash tree at the end of the garden. The fish and chips were superb, crispy batter, very fresh cod, and hand cut chips with the skins on. The Chenin blanc went well. We ordered a half portion of fish for my wife, in the event the waiter brought a full portion instead. Realising his mistake, he only charged for a half. The relish could have had more flavour; the crumble was the best on the dessert menu and was excellent. Altogether a great meal in a green leafy setting.

Had an amazing takeaway sandwich for lunch here yesterday. Portions were huge and it was so cheap we couldn’t believe it. Staff were so pleasant and helpful and the shop was also very well stocked with lots of local supplies again reasonably priced and great quality! We will definitely be back, hopefully we can sit in next time!

What a great find for a Sunday roast! We stumbled across this pub on a drive over to Winkworth Arboretum. I tried to book online but it was past 3 o’clock so we just turned up on the off chance the kitchen was still open. We turned up at 3:30 and they were still serving roasts and they were still very busy but sorted a table for us. I had roast lamb and my husband had the mixed meat roast and they were delicious and meat was tender. They do half sized roasts for children, so my daughter had roast chicken. Desert was a sticky toffee pudding for me and apple crumble for my husband. Highly recommend

First time at the Fox inn, the food was amazing and tasty from starters to main, I just wish that I had space for the dessert but I was too full :). Good service fully recommend it.

Lovely pub ! Little art exhibition last Saturday of each month. Extended outdoor tarpaulin area with a grand selection of beers, spirits and pub lunches. Cozy indoor area for the colder months. Ample bike parking. Child and doggie friendly!

What a lovely pub. We came here after a nice walk and sat outside in the sun. The pub has amazing indoor, outdoor covered and uncovered space. Food was delicious and I have to give a special shout out to “česnečka” the czech garlic soup. Took me back to czech republic and was definitely 10/10. Plus any pub with games also scores extra points!

Came across this place by chance whilst visiting another business locally. They allowed us to park in their car park temporarily and so we decided to have lunch there. Super friendly staff and great service, and excellent food. The garden area is lovely. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

The food is hands down amazing We came down to Rudgwick on a camping holiday and this is the closest pub. What a little gem and hats off to the chef.

Stopped off on the spur of the moment at this pub advertised as the Last pub in West Sussex ( right against the Surrey border) we received a very warm welcome and although not an extensive menu ( for a Wednesday evening) the choice was ample for our requirements, the food was served timeously hot and flavourful and at a far price, and the staff were very attentive, a great evening meal in an early Autumn evening.we will be returning.

Had a great time at the fox inn today. Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Warm and cosy setting. Dog friendly which is a bonus as we brought a puppy with us. My food was really nice. Classic pub fish and chips. My mum is allergic to chilli and thought that it was still on her food (it wasn’t) she just thought it was and started to panic, staff were so helpful and polite even when she got it wrong. Coming from retail I know how hard it can be to be polite to difficult customers, but they were all lovely. It must have been a busy and stressful day as it was Mother’s Day, but that didn’t affect the quality of the food or service. £166 for 6 people with mains and pudding, and 2 rounds off drinks is also not to expensive at all. I would defiantly go back and would highly recommend. Thankyou for a lovely meal.

Had a brilliant evening at The Fox Inn, food was perfect, excellent service. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner Tristan and his lovely partner! Had a glass of Ukrainian Vodka. Such a wonderfully friendly atmosphere. Honestly best pub experience I’ve had in years 10/10. The duck, beef croquettes and satay chicken were my favs. Keep up the great work guys!

I’m not sure what my expectations of a sandwich in this pub were, but what I got far exceeded any expectation! I had the halloumi, avocado and chilli oil sandwich on their homemade sourdough. Holy heck it was good!! And the chips were delicious too. Lovely service and a great atmosphere - I’m excited to go back!

Twelve of us cyclist had a great lunch today, we arrived early but were greeted with plenty of hospitality. Food was great, prompt service, delicious plentiful meal (good enough for hungry cyclists). We will come back, keep up the good work.

Nice pub! Food was lovely. We had Thai curry and a sandwich. The sandwich was absolutely humongous and on tasty home made sourdough. Curry also good! Good stop off for those cycling/walking the downslink.

Very nice Pub. The food was very good and was served fast. Everything OK, just one point... The staff can not deal with lots of tables, difficult to catch the Atention to the table even to ask the bill.

Lovely pub. Excellent service. Huge portions of food. Had the fish and chips. Home made tartare sauce not tart enough for me. Fish was nice, chips average. Hope this feedback helps.

Nice pub, good food, worth waiting for. Service patchy but friendly. They need to update their ordering system to the 21st century. Writing things down and then losing the order isn't good enough!

Weekday lunch time. Met a family member. Looking forward to the schnitzel I had last time. Not on menu so decided on chill con carne. Disappointed is an understatement. Runny, hardly any beans,a dollop of sticky rice, runny cream and awful tasting guacamole. About half size portion. Cost,19 quid!!! Utter rubbish. Look elsewhere next time, after 3 visits.

Came recommended, busy, underwhelming, the roast potatoes were cold, Yorkshire pudding looked great only warm due to the gravey which was nice. The fish and chips, chips tasted of cooking oil, fish cooked but the batter was pale n not crispy. For the price disappointing, weren't asked if everything was ok. Good car park.

The Sunday Roast was good but we’re seated in the outdoor marquee, our table was on uneven ground so had to mainly sit on the uphill side as it felt it could tip. The marquee has no sides so allows the wind in whilst blocking the sun, even if warm ensure you take extra layers. Had trouble getting served drinks, the bar staff just ignore you and servers just cut in ahead of you. Overall food was nice but service and environment not great, hopefully they were just having an off day so may try again.

Absolutely terrible, tried food at la rusta and it was the worst food and drink I ever had, my friend told me to visit the fox as the owner Alex makes the food there so I gave it a try and the food was still 1/5 I would rate it lower if I could wouldn’t recommend if your looking for something good to eat, all the reviews that are 3stars plus have to be the owner on different accounts this place has absolutely downgraded since the new owner Alex took over 😡

M
Miriam Chapman

Terrible. Absolute rubbish Roast dinner nice but 100% not worth the price. Dessert tasted like tinned fruit and cheap tinned water custard in a tiny ramakin. No atmosphere and no low background restaurant calm Sunday roast music. Freezing cold day no radiators on . Not many customers. Main boss woman walking around looked very stressed. Bad energy vibes no love at all like the whole place used to be with the old management. Price of meal not worth it at all. Horrible afternoon roast experience. Highly do not recommend! Will 100% never be returning so sad as this pub and restaurant was once a joy and happy place to be filled with wonderful times on every level. So disappointing today on every leve !!!

Used to be great food, but in the last few months with new owners, the menu changed and the prices went right up, and the food is now awful - and definitely not fresh cooked food from scratch like it was. It seems like the frozen/deep fried kind of fare you would get at Wetherspoons, but triple the price. You can see there is no love or pride going into this pub or food. 3 sheets of menu options, confusing and very little vegetarian. They don't seem to be bothered to even have a working website, or a reservation system. Be aware any photos and reviews mentioning the fantastic roasts, food, wraps, sandwiches, and salads will likely be about previous owners of the pub, who left in October 2025.

Having dined at the Fox Inn prior to them changing management, my friends and I had always had a good experience. However, Friday Jan 9th 2026 was the total opposite. There were 4 of us, food came out for 2 then fries for another, which by the time she had got her salad would have been cold, eventually the 4th person had her meal served. The time scale between waiting for food, was unacceptable, we should all have been served at the same time, there was only one other couple eating in the pub,. Then we had the displeasure of a young child running around making so much noise, it completely spoilt our lunch! Whilst we appreciated that it’s a family friendly pub, it’s not a playground. Needless to say, we most definitely will not be returning. Given that pubs are struggling, I’m somewhat surprised that this was allowed to continue, we think they were friends/family of the staff, so they turned a blind eye. No one thought the child could have hurt himself, it was an accident waiting to happen. I absolutely do not recommend this pub to anyone.

Had a Sunday roast and was honestly the worst food I have ever tried, had the trio roast every item was bland, very small portions and and was lucky to have half a potato of roast potato’s on my plate. Would not recommend or ever try again.

Jack Eakins

They gave us salad with a “roast” (had 1 piece of meat and no vegetables) The waiter didn’t know the difference between beef, pork, and chicken… Didn’t ask about any allergies, etc. They kept playing the same 5 sex songs on loop, and the atmosphere was very weird. I’d avoid it if I were you… ended up costing over £100 too..

Very disappointed 😔 my daughter had eaten here when she came on holiday last year and loved it, so much so she booked it for my 60th birthday as we are having a family holiday here this year. Well what a difference a year makes. After waiting over an hour for are roast dinner they first brought out 2 plates 10 minutes before the rest of our meals, so obviously theirs got cold, no apologies. The roast itself was nice apart from the gravy which had a strange sweetish taste and cauliflower cheese which also had a strange taste, both did not taste very nice, so obviously ruined the rest of the dinner. My daughter had halloumi burger, the avocado inside was vile never tasted anything like it not sure what they had done to it, just a heads up perhaps ask for the avocado part to be separate from the bun. Such a shame as very nice pub but not great service.

Went for a Sunday roast we had 3 tiny potatoes each that were cold anyway the Yorkshire was over cooked and cold we had brown broccoli the portions were so small the chicken was majority bone the pork was hard and when mentioned to the staff they had nothing to say so we asked for the drinks off, also asked for the bill and they just walked off so we then got impatient waiting and went to the bar to pay there was no apology for the things we brought up over all I wouldn’t recommend if you are looking for somewhere to eat

Weve been coming here for years for their roasts, always amazing, but unfortunately since changing hands the food is almost inedible. Food took over an hour to come, and when it did it was pretty cold. The brocolli was totally raw, the roast potatoes were chewy, and the meat was overcooked and flavourless. The yorkshires were like dust. The vegan "cauliflower steak" was just lumps of boiled cauliflower. We also weren't convinced the potatoes weren't the same duck fat potatoes, and the yorkshire was identical, so probably not vegan. The poor, longstanding waitresses were incredibly apologetic, all looked very frustrated, and did take quite a bit of the food off the bill. Hopefully it improves to its previous standard, but for now, id totally avoid.
