We visited on a Thursday lunchtime. The monday-friday lunch menu was good value. I had the fish and chips which was a nice size portion for lunch, my friend had the steak (open) sandwich which looked great. The pub looks to have been recently renovated. The staff were all friendly.

This pub was great. We visited during our work lunch hour. I called up and ordered over the phone. The food was out very quickly and we were back in time for work to start again.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Fantastic Gem by the Moor! The Burrator Pub is an absolute delight — cozy, welcoming, and full of character. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between a traditional country pub and a friendly local hangout. The staff are always cheerful and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. The food is top-notch — hearty portions, beautifully cooked, and full of flavor. The Sunday roast is one of the best in the area, and the desserts are worth saving room for! They also have a great selection of local ales and ciders, perfect for relaxing after a walk around Burrator Reservoir. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Dartmoor, this place is a must-visit. Great food, great people, and a lovely atmosphere — what more could you want from a pub?

Popped in a couple of weeks ago on the off chance there would be a table free for lunch. It was a Sunday so we weren't too hopeful. They managed to squeeze us in and we had a lovely roast. The pub itself is decorated well and feels cosy and welcoming. There is a large outside seating area with some individual covered areas as well (feels a bit like being in a shed with one side open!). They thoughtfully provide blankets if you want to sit outside when it's a bit chilly. Next to the carpark is an outside washing area for you to clean off muddy walking boots and your muddy dog before you go in the pub. This pub is a really nice place to stop off for a meal or just a drink after a nice long walk across the moors or round Burrator reservoir.

Came with my family and had a really enjoyable time here. The food is amazing and great variety of drinks, I like that its dog friendly and has a little play area for the little ones as my step daughter loved the slide. I would recommend any of my friends or family members that haven't been to burrator inn before.

Went here after a walk around the reservoir, we hadn’t booked so took a chance. Looked busy with cars but a big pub so lots of seating. We managed to get a booth outside with the dogs which was brilliant because it was very windy. They told us that there might be a wait for the food as they ‘do good food not fast food’ which we were totally happy with. But as it was the food arrived in good time and we had burgers and chips which were lovely. Sweet onions and two patties with cheese, they also had a lovely dip which was gorgeous. Really enjoyed it.

Very friendly and helpful welcome. Despite having not reserved (recommended) they went to great efforts to accommodate us. Delicious meal and good service. Will certainly be going back.

Had a lovely meal with family. Service was great, very welcoming and friendly. Food was lovely, a good mix of traditional and options to try something new.

We had a very warm welcome. The staff were very friendly and always had time for a chat and were full of information about the local area. Housekeeping was excellent. We stayed for five nights and really enjoyed the varied breakfasts. The lunch and dinner menus included what you would expect for a pub with a few extras. The food was good and well presented. Might have been nice to have had a salad option. We really enjoyed our stay even though it rained every day and look forward to visiting again in better weather (if you'll have us back!)

Large family gathering for a birthday. Lovely Sunday Roast, a good variety of veg and great menu of puddings. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble.

My partner and I always come here for a roast on a Sunday! It’s the best we have ever had. We always go for the roast pork and never disappoints. The service is also incredible, such friendly people! The staff are always so friendly. We love coming in! Very accommodating. Thank you for having us! ☺️

We attended for a midweek family dinner (4 generations). The food was exceptional, really very special. I had lamb cutlets - absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, full of flavour and nicely presented. Service was sèemless....welcoming and attentive. The whole party agreed, it was one of the best meals we've had out for a long time. Will be returning again soon

I stayed here for two nights 12 -14 Jan 2026. From arriving to leaving l was made to feel at home and l really would recommend anyone to stay here for a couple of nights and its dog friendly. My room was very clean and the walk in shower was superb. The food was amazing, from Breakfast to Dinner, plenty of choice, high quality with a well stocked bar, good ale choice, lagers and wines. Staff were friendly and efficient. I will definitely stay here again 5 star. John S

It was a tall order to serve three Scottish trouts to three hungry Scots, who fish regularly, so the pressure was palpable when I chatted to the lovely proprietor of the Dartmoor Inn between courses of our family meal. The food however was delicious and just as presentable as their tastefully decorated eatery. The remainder of the party not having the fish thoroughly enjoyed the food, with the only difficulty being the choosing; as it all looked so good. Served with the correct balance of feeling special without being snooty. We have been before and we will come again.

We came in yesterday for a Sunday roast as a party of 11. The food was excellent and came out so quickly which was surprising for such a big party. The staff were all very polite and friendly, especially with the small children which always makes such a difference. This pub is a long time favourite of ours anyway, but we were all particularly impressed with the food and service yesterday. Thank you very much!

Had a one night stay here, all round excellent experience - fantastic evening meal, good beers and choice of drinks all in a proper pub. Room was clean, everything works and comfortable bed. Breakfast was again high standard and nothing too much bother. Every member of the team we spoke to was very friendly and helpful, and made this a really relaxing and pleasant stay. Will definitely be back!

We had an amazing meal as a party of 9 for New Year's Day! All our food was perfection and the little extra touches for the children like the activity bags and breadsticks were great! Thank you - would highly recommend for a family gathering!

Myself, partner, sister and her husband came over for a Sunday roast. We walked in to the pub where a beautiful log burner was burning which made us feel all cosy on a cold day. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was excellent. Can’t recommend this beautiful pub / hotel enough. Well worth a visit as you won’t be disappointed 5*****

An absolutely beautiful experience. My wife and i stopped in for a bite to eat after a 5 mile walk. The atmosphere and decoration of the venue was superb, staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We both ordered the steak sandwiches and chips, which were part of a lunch deal. The food was simply gorgeous and the prices great. We cannot wait to return over the Xmas period.

Great selection of beers. Had a fantastic Sunday roast here around a month ago and am visiting again for another with friends tomorrow. Lovely outdoor area for drinks when the weather warms up. Well worth a visit!

We visited recently on a busy Sunday lunchtime following a walk around nearby Burrator Reservoir. Without a reservation I wasn’t hopeful, but we were greeted very positively and swiftly provided a table. The Dog friendly policy is ideal and a large beer garden for those sunny days & families. The food was incredible and by far one of the best roast dinners I’ve had within the local area. Service from all staff was excellent alongside the cosy, characterful atmosphere. Would highly recommend!

I came to Burrator on holiday and it was a great experience. The staff is friendly, professional and very welcoming. We ate really well there, there are several choices so there is something for everyone. It's really a great place with tasteful decor. I would come back with pleasure.

Really enjoyed the stay here, the staff were welcoming and polite. Good quality food and fine dining. Would recommend staying here to everyone and anyone that owns a dog!!

Lovely Americano coffee for £2.80 which we’ve found is a really good price for a slightly out of the way place! Cosy, friendly and a great place to stop to dry off and get some coffee. Didnt try food but the menus looked great!

We stay here every time working in the south west. The staff are the most friendliest you could ever come across. The owner we can’t thank enough for going above and beyond every stay we have! Would highly recommend staying whenever travelling. Last but not least the food is always 10/10 couldn’t ask for anything more.

We booked in for a Sunday lunch, it was outstanding. From the moment we walked through the door we felt welcomed, the landlord and landlady are very present, fully engaged with their customers actually caring about each and everyone. This was reflected through the staff as well, all very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. It is a very long time since we have been made to feel this welcome, we had only stopped in once before when passing for a drink. The food doesn’t let them down either, very nicely presented and very tasty. The Sunday lunch was as good as a home cooked (my husband is a chef so home cooked food is amazing). This is the closest we have ever had to match. We live half hour drive away, definitely worth the drive, will be going back again. Would recommend anyone to make the effort and go and visit this pub. We had the pate to start so nice and full of flavour, then the Sunday roast. We wasn’t going to have pudding but The Baby Guinness looked good, it was a real treat. We consumed far too much but it was all just so good.

What a beautiful place! We visited in the middle of the day in August and there was plenty of parking and plenty of seating inside and out. The prices for drinks were good. We looked at the menu out of curiosity and decided that we would keep this one on our list of special occasion visits. The cost of food looks quite high (but not extortionate). I would certainly come here for a meal out with visiting family, for instance, but I probably wouldn’t come here just for an average day evening meal; it would just be a bit out of price range for me personally to justify that. The outside space and seating are great! They’ve clearly made a lot of effort and time to make and keep this space welcoming. Inside feels warm and quite luxurious. Big old leather chairs and sofas, lovely decor and very dog-friendly! The whole space is wheelchair accessible, including the outside seating area.

Beautiful family meal, no complaints all round, great service especially considering how busy it was throughout the bar and restaurant, will definitely return, haven't stayed so unable to review the rooms

Absolutely unreal food! We didn't stay but we did eat however the place looked lovely. This is some of the best food we've had in a while. It is a bit more on the pricey side but so worth it! They're dog friendly too so that makes this place even more appealing. The food was full of flavour and just absolutely unreal.

Had a roast dinner at the Burrator Inn today and it was excellent. The service from the staff was great, the place was clean, comfortable, and welcoming, plus it’s dog-friendly, which is always a bonus. The food was delicious, and the drinks selection looked good too. I can’t speak for all the options because I only had eyes for Dartmoor’s Jail Ale and since they had it on tap, I was more than happy! Lovely facilities and an all-round 5-star experience. Thanks to everyone at the Burrator Inn.

I don't normally write reviews but felt our stay was too good not to! Our room was beautiful and very spacious whilst being fully equipped with everything you need. The children absolutely loved the triple bunk bed and the fact they had their own bathroom as well as ours was a bonus we didn't expect! We found the owners and all the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and we all enjoyed every meal we ate. The breakfast was also very good with a great selection available. Great location, only a few minutes from the reservoir and just off the moors where we stopped quite a few times for the children to see the horses who came up to the car! I can't recommend The Burrator enough, we had the most enjoyable stay and will definitely be returning.

Came out for an anniversary meal, delighted to see unexpected card on the table from ‘The Team’, that was a nice touch. Friendly and efficient service from the waiting staff who were very welcoming. The meal was superb and portions just right with a lot of variety to suit any palate. Welcome to the new team of Naomi, Jeremy & Bethan, with standards like tonight, prepare yourselves to be very busy every night. It was lovely to meet you and I look forward to doing business with you. Tanya & John

From the moment I made the booking to the moment we left we were treated superbly. When we arrived with Comet the guide dog we were immediately taken to a table that was light bright and plenty of room for the dog. No fuss no drama over having the dog in the restaurant as it should be. Staff very friendly happy smiling. The food excellent all in all very happy Saturday evening out.

Went to the Burrator Inn for Sunday lunch. We had a table for four in the bar area. The welcome and the service were both very good, they also pour an excellent Guinness. We had the roast beef. This was cooked perfectly as was the vegetables. The whole meal was delicious. The reason I haven't given 5 stars is that the meal went cold before we finished it. The plates weren't that hot at the start hence the food cooled quite quickly, easily solved though.

My family visited the Burrator Inn today with a reservation. Though I live within 20 mins drive, the last time I visited, was over two decades ago despite passing frequently. The staff were very polite, the service was excellent, the venue is nicely decorated, and all the details are there in presentation. We had a three course Sunday lunch, the meals were presented nicely, but the taste, quality and in particular the portions of the accompanying vegetables were underwhelming and didn't meet our expectations or in our opinion, value for money. The area we were seated in was a little cold, as a refuge from the winter weather and required our coats to be left on, which does not feel right when seated for a meal. Apart from the quality of the meal, everything else was excellent, disappointingly, Burrator Inn, wouldn't be my first choice in the future.

We came here about 12 months ago and we absolutely love the pub , atmosphere , drinks , but the food we were very disappointed with. We came back today and the food was amazing , being a chef my self I couldn’t fault the food. The new addition of moretti unfiltered is a brilliant one , what a beer ! Good work to the new owners and the team behind the scenes , can’t wait to come back x

We called in recently for lunch; we only ordered two starters (crispy aromatic duck salad and calamari) but both were delicious. They serve a great pint as well.

Such a lovely pub in a great location. Food is good, albeit the menu is a bit too fussy, could do with a few more basic options. I’ve been twice in a week and both times I had the misfortune of coming into contact with, what I assume is the head waitress / manager. She was extremely rude and abrupt on both occasions and made it feel like we were not welcome. In fact all the waitresses stood behind the bar did not smile once and it just seemed like a massive effort having to serve customers. I’m guessing they were put out because I came in the second time with my 3 very well behaved dogs. You do advertise a dog friendly pub so maybe remember that next time customers come in with dogs. I have to say I won’t return anytime soon as did not feel welcome at all. Only got 3 stars as the food and setting is good.

Good service, nice place, nice food. However, it's expensive for what you're served. Went for a Sunday roast and the portions of meat and vegetables were pretty small, for £21 a head I expected more, quality was not bad, beef was a bit over done and chewy, veg was generally tasty but leeks were also pretty undercooked. The portions need to be around 25% bigger to justify the price in my opinion. Nothing special, will probably not make the effort to visit again.

Lovely setting. Service poor shown table and left had to ask for our food 45mins of waiting which was pre ordered no one came to ask if food was ok after being served. ( Chips cold )lots of staff but not attentive or friendly on this day .

I took my 92 year old client here for her birthday lunch, there was a mix up with the reservation but quickly rectified, unfortunately my experience with one member of staff was diabolical she had been rude to me, another customer and a member of staff…I calmly said that she had been rude to all 3 of us and she responded by asking myself and my client to leave because I was making her feel uncomfortable! I said I wasn’t leaving and that I wanted to speak to a senior member of staff to which she said…there wasn’t any just her?? Still repeating that she wanted us to leave until the owner walked up behind me then she quickly changed her mind and served me! Disgraceful behaviour and completely tainted our lunch. A couple came and sat at the table next to us who had also said she had been abrupt and rude to them too! And actually decided to leave instead of ordering. Wrong job for someone that isn’t able to take constructive criticism of her abrupt and rude manner.

S

Very disappointed. The first time we've been here since its refurbishment. Beautifully decorated. I must admit, the only reason we came here was because our preferred choice wasn't available. The menu is very cleverly written. It looks amazing! Sadly, the food wasn't amazing. The presentation failed miserably. It was very overpriced for the standard of food that came to our table. The myriad of waitresses all looked, quite frankly, miserable. I hasten to say, we won't be returning. Oh! BTW, the picture of belly pork is with apple mash. The sprinkling of tough shavings on top of the mash is the apple.

L
Lindsey Smith

Lovely looking place with great outdoor space very appealing but unfortunately the food was a big let down. Small portions and poor quality, Frozen chips, shop bought bread cold peas and £5 for a side of about 10 chips Is disgusting. It is a real shame as it has so much potential to be amazing.

Took my Mrs out to what I was hoping would be a nice evening with nice food. As soon as we entered was greeted by very moody staff member who made us feel very uncomfortable. We seemed to be the only people there for food, after finding ourselves somewhere to sit was sat waiting for a good while before we see another staff member. So then we asked how we order and was told could now order. The food eventually turned up and was awful, mine was burned and my wife’s the same too. Left half of it and when went to pay the bill was asked how the food was. Told them was not happy and was told ok I’ll let the chef know. Very unpleasant experience and awful food

RUDE LANDLADY Rating: -1* Just popped in for lunch, we live locally. The new land lady has a terrible way with people… just abrasive and rude. I ordered at the bar, she was rude and abrupt... figured she’s probably a bit stressed given the busy time of year. Then she starts walking around “who has a white car near the fence?” Turns out about 8 people have a white car, including me. I asked her which car or for a reg…. Again… just rude, so we left… all 11 of us. Rude rude woman. This place has had several people in as many years, all have failed to make it work. I suspect she too will be another, especially given her crap attitude to paying patrons. Oh, and the steak sandwich turned up cold and missing the top bun. Surely a sandwich isn’t a sandwich without two pieces of bread. WONT BE BACK AND DONT RECOMMEND

L
Laura Fluin

Giving a 1 star to get the owners attention. Your staff need some training in how to deal with an upset customer. We ordered 3 fishcakes, a side of brocolli and a side of butternut squash. The food was nice but £5.50 for 4 teeny pieces of butternut squash is ridiculous! I asked the lady behind the bar, who quite frankly wasn't very friendly and made us feel like an inconvenience, for 2 more pieces. She was on her phone hidden round the corner when I found her. She said the chef said no to my request. No more was done to make us feel like we had been listened to. Ive been here a few times and im not sure if I will return. I work in a restaurant and I understand how hospitality works. I really dont think it takes much to smile at your customers and make them feel welcome. Also I would have done anything to make the customer happy. (maybe I just enjoy my job). Picture attached of 1 piece of squash costing £1.30

Tonight we drove over an hour to have dinner with the family . We were 4 adults x 3 kids . Firstly on arrival ushered straight to the table 18.30 .. ordered some drinks .. 18.50 drinks arrived so ordered the mains... 1 hour and 10 mins later the meals arrived ... most were cold , except the 2 kids shepards pies , which looked microwaved to death . 1 pie 1 peice of carrot , 2 broccoli..£19. Hubby ordered 1 glass of malbec £12 to have with his meal , this arrived 35 mins later , so now dinner was done. .. ordered dessert and again 25 min wait ... microwaved chocolate brownies and a scoop of ice cream... a portion of sticky toffee.. totalling 2 spoons ... The total bill was over £200 . We did speak to the landlady who was not interested in the slightest, she said she would let the kids 3 small glasses of lemonade go free. .. Absolutely Shocking experience.. we will not be repeating this again... terrible food , terrible service .. and a gready landlady who was only interested in the money and not the feedback from her guest ... Avoid this Place

The pub is situated just off of the main road between Yelverton and Princetown. Easy to get to but the food is overly expensive. A sandwich should not cost £13.50 on it's own. Not a club sandwich as far as I'm concerned and not even accompanied by a small amount of salad or crisps. Mediocre bread, two slices, with grated cheese and small amount of red onion chutney.
