Had been here before and maybe was a 3.5. Was convenient, on our way and my wife & I both wanted Thai food. Didn't realize it is under new ownership. Was an AWESOME Surprise. From our greeting to the food and plate presentations, I have not had better Thai food, anywhere. We had Roti and deep fried vegetable rolls for appetizers. Then Tom Yum fried rice with shrimp, Pineapple curry with fish, and Panang curry with chicken. Plate presentations were beautiful with fresh orchid (purple) and Rosemary. Arawan, downtown Redwood City was my go to Thai restaurant for years till it's closure. I have now found my new "GoTo" Thai restaurant. Arkom was our waiter. Excellent service! Like to hear what others think. Only under this new owner/chef for the past 4 months.
Just discovered this hidden gem in Redwood City and everything exceeded my expectations! From traditional Thai dishes to unique southern Thai options, there's something for everyone. The Phuket Pork Belly and Kua Kling bowl stole my heart! Nice ambiance and Great service too! Would definitely come back soon!
My wife has zero spice tolerance, and she would still ask to eat here because we like it so much. One thing I like here is that they have pretty good options for eating a bit healthier. All the dishes have a good amount of vegetables, you can get sides of vegetables, and there's an option to get brown rice. Otherwise, everything is pretty reasonably priced, tasty, and more than enough to fill you up. The Khao Soi is our go-to, and the pad kee mao and basil fried rice are both great.
Just ate here for the first time and loved it! I got takeout, the yellow curry with chicken with a side of sticky rice and the mango lemonade. Everything was amazing! The yellow curry is listed as mildly spicy on the menu and was rich and flavorful, but not too hot. The chicken was tender and delicious. The mango lemonade was also delicious and super refreshing! The portions were generous enough for me to have some left over for lunch tomorrow. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. Any questions I had were answered thoughtfully. The food was ready in maybe 10 minutes, and I was offered water while I waited and the drink I ordered as soon as it was ready. Karakade will definitely go on my regular rotation!
Amazing Southern Thai food. Don’t get the normal Northern Thai stuff you see at every other Thai restaurant, that’s not the point of Karakade. We went for the specialty Southern dishes and had one of the best meals we’ve ever had in the Bay Area. These dishes are not for the weak of heart, they go all in on the fishiness and the spices. But man are they flavorful! I highly recommend the Kana Moo Krob, the Khao Soi, and the southern set meals.
I’m not sure why some people have posted poor reviews, but this place is great. It’s a small seemingly family owned and operated restaurant. The woman taking orders is very busy but still kind and thoughtful. I have celiac disease and a severe fish allergy, so eating out is always a challenge. The food was so delicious, spicy and flavorful. I didn’t have any reaction and will be returning often.
Very good Thai food. Leisurely but friendly and informative service. A nice little restaurant. We have enjoyed the food as takeout and dine in. We will be back.
Wow. I’ve been to several Thai restaurants in the Bay Area but this is the best in my opinion. Especially I love the herbal coconut dip. Definitely I will come back!!!
Great, flavorful and quality Thai food with excellent service! Praram and pumpkin curry were delicious and the wait staff was very attentive and happy to honor special requests.
Really flavorful dishes! I had the BBQ chicken which came with a side of sweet BBQ sauce and white sticky rice and my gf had the pineapple curry with a side of white rice. The chicken was grilled and served with crispy onions which gave it an extra crunch and the sweet sauce provided additional flavor. Loved the combo.
We were customers when Kate owned Karakade and were hoping the quality would not suffer under new ownership. We needn’t have worried. We got delivery and the food was excellent. Pineapple Red Curry with Duck was delicious. Also loved the Coconut Ice Cream with Roti. Ice cream is sooo creamy! Will try other items in the future. Definitely will be regulars.
Great food, cozy space, and warm atmosphere.
2020 has been hard for many, and restaurants have had to adapt a lot to stay in business. Katakana Thai closed the doors to put up a table out front and satanized all there pins to the point most don’t even work anymore. Do you not carry you own pin yet! My GF and I live a 10 minute walk away and found out about this gem shortly after lockdown. It’s become a weekly go to for takeout now for about a year! What happened to two weeks! So far everything I’ve tried is amazing. But my go too favorites are pineapple fried rice, and yellow curry, and my GF loves the flavorful pad see ew. They have great Thai tea, but if you’re thrifty and have an addition buy a bunch of Thai tea leaves on Amazon and make your own, just add Heavy cream. Beside the friendly respectful staff and amazing Thai food, I’m happy to say this is our new go to take out when we both are cooked form zoom meeting and just want tasty clean conform food. Beside some rude DoorDash drivers during pickup we have alway felt they take Greta care during this catastrophe of a pandemic. I’m happy to this is the best Thai in Redwood City. I look forward to one day eating inside; but honestly takes perfect during this crazy year. Thanks for Making great food and keeping your customers and staff safe.
Great little Thai restaurant. Red Curry and Spicy Basil were excellent. Quick and friendly service. Looking forward to trying more of the menu soon!
Ordered through Door Dash after being unable to get to our regular Thai place in Menlo Park. The food was delivered quickly, fresh and hot! All our dishes were excellent, from the Pad Thai shrimp, to the pineapple rice , spicy beef, fish, and roti with coconut icecream was a perfect dinner topper (and the icecream wasn’t even melted!). I think this is a new favorite place. The pricing was very fair considering the quality and quantity of food served. Well worth the money.
The food was pretty good and it’s not too far from where I live. The staff seemed nice, too. The yellow curry was my favorite, and I’d order it again when I come back.
The only Thai place I've been to in the Bay Area that actually makes spicy food spicy. I highly recommend the Pad Kee Mao and the Panang Curry for vegans. For non-vegans, I've heard that seafood is their specialty.
My Thai husband said the food here reminds him of his childhood 🥰. The flavors are great and the menu is far more interesting than your average Thai restaurant. To top it off, the ambiance in the dining area is really cozy and the service was great - I was really impressed at the one person who was host / waiter / expediter all in one. We'll definitely be coming again with the rest of the family. What we ordered which could feed 4 adults (favorites with *): *Chiangmai Sausage - spicy and aromatic Fried Tofu Papaya Salad *Larb Gai *BBQ Chicken Braised Chicken Noodle Soup - a hearty meal!
I was recommended to this place and I think I found my favorite cozy eats. The Khao soi was full of savory flavor with a generous serving of chicken on top of huge helping of flat noodles. Paired it with a simple but refreshing Thai iced tea. I needed a happy nap after that. The vibe was culturally on point with a massive Buddha face, warm bamboo wicker lantern lights, sacred little elephants, and a rainbow of flower decorations. And the staff were super nice and polite as I tried and maybe struggled with some Thai words. Recommend getting there right at opening to have a more relaxed and open experience, and also since parking lot is tiny. Can’t wait to go back!
This place has a really good atmosphere, and authentic south east asian food! We came in off peak hours, so we got the whole place to ourselves. Service was timely and caring, we got our food within 10 minutes! Also, best sweet mango rice ive had in my life!!! Definitely worth eating here in person!
If you watch Mark Wiens on YouTube and you’ve always wondered how the Thai southern style spicy sour curry with fish tasted I think this is the best you’re gonna get in the Bay. Common Thai staples like pad kee mao had good wok-hey taste! And more deep cut Thai southern dishes are definitely worth you to venture out of your habits for (if you like actually spicy food).
This place is my new favorite Thai spot in the area! Not only is it super cute & cozy inside, the food is just incredible. The layered flavors & delicious sauces are just *chefs kiss*! I brought my 2 year old niece & they even gave her a kiddy cup & kiddy utensils, which made her very very happy haha. If you’re in the area, definitely dine in here! Btw I only eat halal, and there were wonderful veggie/vegan options! Loved the pad see ew & spicy eggplant. My friends enjoyed the chicken satay & BBQ!
I liked that I could order it online. All dishes I ordered were fabulous and we ate everything. I've been passing this restaurant for years and only now I went there to take out for the first time, and I'm sorry only for the fact that it took me so long to get the food from this place.
Finally found a taste of home in San Francisco! This place serves up the absolute best Thai Southern cuisine I've had in the bay area. Their Krua kling and Kang tai pla are must-tries. Every bite is an authentic flavor that transports you straight to the streets of Thailand. If you're craving genuine Thai Southern food, look no further! Highly recommend 😋
Unexpectedly great. The Tom Yum soup was good, but the Spicy Eggplant and the Tamarind Shrimp - especially - were very good.
Very delicious! I've been to Bangkok and the mango rice tastes exactly like what I had there!
Their thai tea was a lil too sweet but still good! Pumpkin curry with chicken was satisfying as well and they were very responsive. Thanks! I'll be back soon 😊

Food was absolutely delicious and flavorful! Got the Panang curry with chicken and the Tom Kha Seafood. Only complaint is that they barely put any seafood in there, so save your money and go with a different add-in or just plain instead. Will order again, one of my new favorite soups!
Fantastic southern Thai restaurant! Recommmend their pork belly dishes
Small place with great atmosphere. The food was delicious, especially Chicken noodle with bitter melon, and the portions were generous. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome. We will come back for sure. Recommended!!

Ordered a take out from Karakade Thai Cuisine. You can get your average Thai food from here. Both pad thai and yellow curry had more chicken than I had expected :). Also, the yellow curry didn’t have potatoes or bamboo shoots - which are totally fine with me. The fried chicken was also good when tried with the sauce. However, the sweet rice that came with the fried chicken was very dry.
Quick friendly service when I ordered takeout. I ordered the pad Thai with chicken. Great potion size, good presentation, with yummy crushed peanuts on the side, slice of lemon and it came with tofu. Overall it was tasty, but next time I’ll try something different.
I went there twice and got the - pad ga prow - pad thai + thai iced coffee The pad ga prow's ground chicken was cooked pretty well and the heat was a good level. The pad thai was quite flavorful, and the thai iced coffee was sweet but not too sweet. The only thing I would say is the quantity is a bit small for the price they charge.
I would say this place is a 3.5 but I’m rounding up. The tom yum soup was good. The service was good and quick. The parking was limited and the neighborhood seemed a bit off the beaten path. I can say I have found any go to Thai food other than Ratcha but that’s in Berkeley. I’d consider coming back here but might not go out of my way for it.
It's was pretty good. It wasn't as spicy as I thought it should be but everything we ordered (spicy eggplant tofu, papaya salad, and crab fried rice) was flavorful and delicious.
Ordered the tofu pad thai and papaya salad. Tofu was nice and crispy but the pad thai noodles they used didn’t quite hold up and especially wasn’t a very complex flavor profile. No combination of sweet and sour with umami like the top tier thai restaurants. Papaya salad was good as well but could have used some more complex flavoring with more fish sauce and spice to enhance the layers of flavor.
Really enjoyed the spicy pork with eggplant. It was delicious! Worth the 1.3 mile walk from my house. Will do it again. The pickled peppers that are at the table just add another dimension of savory heat to the dish. The pineapple fried rice was ok but white jasmine rice was better with it.

I want to say I love it, but two visits in the last week were very different quality. First order on a Saturday night was delayed by 30 minutes but that easily forgiven as the Tom Kha soup was incredible, but Pad See Ew was super garlicky yet still good. Placed the same order the next Thursday but was disappointed- soup was not as good- mostly onions, and the Pad See Ew was requested ‘mild’ yet had chopped up jalapeños making it impossible to eat. Their website automatically adds 18% gratuity- on carryout- that’s just absurd.
The food is really good. However, do NOT order DoorDash carryout from here. They assumed I was a delivery driver and made me wait over 10 mins for food (where I could see it sitting there ready to go), yelled at me for trying to go grab it, and generally just treated me like crap for trying to buy food from them. I was super mad and then the food turned out delicious. The dine-in service looked okay.
Very small place, heavily understaffed and no attention for customers. Had to wait 15min at door before being even asked to be seated. Food- pineapple fried rice had just chunks of pineapple hardly any tofu n very less rice. All the dishes were skimpy with tofu , not expected when you order basil tofu to get 4 pieces Greatly lacking the taste of thai food Plates are overpriced for the portion sizes. Entres are not served with rice.
Overpriced. There are interesting items on the menu, which I thought would make it worthwhile, but I couldn't figure out if the duck is baked or fried as the staff's English was limited. The pumpkin curry itself was good, chicken was mediocre. They were upfront about rice being extra. Still, I ran out even being conservative, so I had to take a third of my meal home to finish. That's fine, I wasn't enjoying the atmosphere. They tried hard to be upscale by decorating the walls, playing bosanova, bringing the cheque in a small red pail that's in oversupply at Goodwill. God, I guess now I'll to have to find something else to put my pencils in at work. Anyway, the plastic flowers and barely scratched tabletops exposing the fakeness of the dark wood weren't cutting it. They made a quick buck off me, so I guess you can say the experience was authentic. If I come back it'll be just once, to donate a red pail I don't want to see again, and I might try a soup, no rice.
Food was okay, not especially flavorful. Almost no one in the restaurant and it took quite a long time for the waitress to show up for anything. Was eating with a friend, we wanted to pay with two cards, they wouldn't accommodate us. It's pretty simple with a PoS system to take two cards. Anyways, if you get bored there, grab a donut next door.
Honestly, skip this place and get Sweet Basil Thai instead. This simply isn't worth your time. Yellow chicken curry: Just tasted like sugar. Way too sweet. Poorly seasoned, which is a theme. Also excessively oily. Pad See Ew: Bland. Literally no flavor, it was poorly seasoned. Every bite I was expecting more flavor and got nothing. The noodles, broccoli, veggies, everything was just flavorless. Crispy Rolls: The best of the lot, in that the sauce was good. Otherwise lacking in flavor/seasoning. Mango Sticky Rice: The rice was overcooked, making it tough and difficult to chew. The texture was unpleasant and the flavor was overly sweet. The mango was still enjoyable. Thai Tea: It was fine, though again, on the overly sweet side, even for Thai Tea which is usually very sweet.
The Pad Thai is sort of our baseline for Thai Food and it lacked the tanginess of the Tamarind (not sure if they even added it?) and the depth of flavor that we've experienced at better spots. The Kua Gling Bowl was bland and dry. With very out of proportion meat to rice and veggies (lots of rice). The menu looked great and we were so excited to come back and try more, but the two dishes we ordered did not leave us desiring to come back for more. Server was very friendly!
