If you love a damn good burger, make sure you don't miss out on the off-menu epoisse burger they offer. Just absolutely sublime of an experience of an everyday dish, you just think it's a burger, but really, you've never had a burger until you eat THIS one. I promise you wont regret it. And of course most everything else on the menu follows suit. But really, I dream of this burger. Can't wait to visit again. One side note was the curt and terse server. It just didn't match the restaurant.
We had such a nice experience at Heirloom Cafe. Seasonal California Cuisine at the highest level, excellent wine selection, both by the glass and their mostly vintage bottle selection, and super friendly service. We loved the PEI mussels, the duck confit, and the chocolate cake. Thank you for a wonderful evening! 👌🏼
Superb. So impressed. Delicious seasonal food with fantastic wine list.
It’s been 4 years since we last ate at Heirloom and it’s just as good if not better than before. This little charming place with its tall ceilings and old timey aesthetics reminds me of New Orleans. The menu is constantly changing to reflect the season and has something for everyone. The wine menu also has many wines by the glass and are generous pours. The presentation and preparation of the food was a delight and delicious. Service was also great and was quick to offer tastes of wines when I wasn’t sure about which one to order. The 3 course tasting was $100 with excellent wine pairing and could be ordered even if others were ordering a la cart. I’m always surprised Heirloom doesn’t receive more accolades, but sometimes it’s nice to have a gem like this keep its neighborhood feel.
We went to heirloom cafe for the first time tonight and had such a wonderful experience. The food was incredible, and the service was even better. Everyone made us feel as though they were truly excited to have us there and wanted us to have a great time. That is stand out service you don't get many places. We'll absolutely be back!
Quintessential farm to table California style dining experience. Duck dish was chef’s kiss. This is the kind of restaurant I would bring out of town guests to.
I'm just here for my snarky review response. Food and wine were great btw
Super cozy spot with extensive wine list and amazing dinner. Came with a group of four and we split a bunch of dishes. Don’t miss the trout with lentils and gnocchi!
We came here for my birthday dinner last week. We felt well taken care of in a friendly, not overly fussy way. Even though we traveled from the east bay, it felt like our neighborhood spot. Stellar wine list with fair mark ups (rare these days). Seasonal menu. All the food was good, but the cod and the corn soup really stood out.
The food is delicious, the ambience is low key. It feels like an upscale neighborhood spot! The service is as also low key :-) would definitely go again.
This is the perfect neighborhood restaurant, but also so much more than a neighborhood restaurant. The vibe is incredible - perfectly lit for a cozy, romantic evening. The food is incredible and the wine list is unmatched in SF. Not to be missed!
This is one of my favorite restaurants: excellent wine list, great service, and I’ve enjoyed every dish I’ve ever ordered. They are also very accommodating when it comes to dietary restrictions. I’ve taken friends and family here, all to rave reviews. I can’t recommend it enough.
Incredible food, service, and ambiance. This might be my new favorite place. The pre-fixe menu was amazing. The gingerbread cake alone is reason to go back!!
Made a reservation for three for my parents and I here on a weekend right after they opened up for dinner. The place was quite empty as they'd just opened, but slowly (not obnoxiously) filled up with [mostly older?] people. The interior of the space is gorgeous. Classic Southern decor with a modern exposed kitchen in the back. The service was really fantastic. Definitely top 10 service experiences. And it felt really genuine too; didn't get the fake personality vibe from anyone. The food was all perfect. We shared all our plates. The mussels were amazing. The cheese plate was wonderful. A bit pricey, but definitely worth it. Also note: they have a killer wine selection.
One of my absolute favorite dinner and wine experiences in San Francisco. Elisa our server was so sweet. Cozy bar seats. Delicious food.
The menu, while limited is, was well executed. Wine was delicious and dessert fantastic. Our server and the somolier, were helpful and attentive. I'd absolutely go back
My new favorite restaurant in the city. Food, service, and ambience are all 10/10. And I love that they still have real candles on each table.
We were lucky to get reservations at the bar, and blessed to have Liana as our dining liaison. The dining room was well organized and their open kitchen was a fun thing to watch during our time there. I ordered the 3 course meal with the suggested paired wine and it was marvelous. Since my two other dining buddies ordered additional items, we all enjoyed sharing each dish and having a multi level dining experience with so many delicious flavors. The staff is clearly professional and our visit was superb. Highly recommend for those who love to dine.
Pre Fix Menu $65 with wine pairing $100 per person. Good amount of food and cucumber salad its refreshing, duck confit its really good as well. Squid its fresh and tender. Food its yummy. Good service too. Dessert tend to be too sweet. I love the gronola and vanilla ice cream. However, the fruits are little too sweet. Great wine selections. Good vibes here.
This place is good eatin'! First time last night and it did not disappoint. So my wife had brought me something "to go" a week before, and even cold the food tasted pretty clean and good. So we had to bring me there for "freshly cooked" food. We did the tasting menu and it did not disappoint. The wine pairing was perfect. White to start with the salad, red to go with the steak, and dessert wine with the shortcake. Every course was excellent. We sat at the bar , so Alyssa (sp?) took care of us. Thanks for the awesome experience and food.
Thank you chef Josh! Excellent experience! Service: 10/10 we arrived early and were seated right away. The host was friendly and greeted us genuinely. Our server brought water, olives and almonds and extra olives for my wife with almond allergies so she can try the yummy olives. Amazing detail to my parties food allergies and checked to make sure the food was safe and had alternatives to accommodate. Food: 10/10 the food was delicious. French influenced California cuisine. Fresh high quality ingredients. Sauces that enhanced the flavors and a balance of umami in all dishes. It was great that one person can have the prefix menu and others at the table can order al a cart. You can also order just one dish from prefix menu. The duck was perfect, the 3 cheeses with toast paired perfectly with the Bordeaux. The smoked trout was very well seasoned and balanced nicely with the pickled cauliflower. The hanger steak was super tender and flavorful with no dairy!!! Wine paring is excellent. The selection of French wines is reasonable and great for food pairing. I think the josey baker sourdough beats tartine country bread! The warm Chocolate cookie with ice cream was delicious, the polenta cake with cream and rhubarb was shockingly good! Ambience: 8/10 I love the simple open decor. Bar, dining and kitchen blend together. It wasn’t too noisy because the ceiling pads dampened it. Price: $$ (great value) Overall, an amazing neighborhood up leveled cuisine in a casual setting. We will be back with friends!
First time enjoying Heirloom Café while in town visiting, and it’s a new favorite! Great atmosphere, open kitchen, very friendly & attentive staff. There were 4 of us, so we just ordered many plates to share. Absolutely a must if you’re in town.
Lovely restaurant, has good energy when it’s full. Extremely friendly service. Delicious food. My only note would be that the gnocchi is good but I got a bit tired of the taste after a few bites so it’s better to share. Broccoli dish and bacon onion tart were tasty, I would definitely recommend.
It was absolutely a delightful dinner here at Heirloom Cafe. We ordered the beet salad, mussels, cod, and gnocchi. Everything was so delicious, we were pleasantly surprised. Wine offering was also very good! We will definitely be back! Add this to your list of must-go SF restaurants!
Great corner spot that has a very neighborhood feel but is easily a fine dining experience. The chef came to our table twice and the host, who I think Is part owner brought over a lovely non alcoholic champagne that I need to get the name of.
Loved my experience at Heirloom - it is just the type of restaurant I love, with seasonal menus, friendly and genuine service, and great ambience. Alyssa and the rest of the staff were attentive and lovely to speak with. I enjoyed my food a lot. Every detail was just right.
Excellent service and food. Portions seemed larger than normal high end places. Neighborhood vibe. Noise level quite high. Great wine selection. Will make room for dessert next time.

A sophisticated yet cozy gem tucked deep in the Mission, Heirloom Cafe delivers rustic, nostalgic cooking executed with real precision. We started with the Napa cabbage salad, a bright, crunchy composition that felt both fresh and composed, followed by warm bread and salted butter, setting the tone for what came next. By then, expectations were heightened. For mains, we shared the bacon and onion tart, cod, and the gnocchi. The tart blew us away; the pastry was baked to perfection and let’s just say the bacon portion was highly generous. The cod was cooked with restraint and confidence: moist, deeply flavorful, and finished with crisp skin that provided just enough contrast. The gnocchi, pan-fried and accented with truffle, were rich without being heavy and nearly melted on the palate. We ended with a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie that may well be one of the best in the city. While we don’t drink, the wine program, more than 300 bottles deep, is renowned and reason enough on its own to visit. Add genuinely warm, thoughtful hospitality from Josh and his staff, and this is the kind of place you return to without needing an excuse.
Excellent place! Everything we tried was outstanding. Amy was exceptional — a true professional, warm and welcoming, and she made us feel right at home. We enjoyed the gnocchi, the green salad, the black cod, and the soup of the day, and every dish was wonderful. The wine list is also excellent. We will definitely be back!
Beautiful, easy going, and excellent. This is a total gem in the Mission. I had walked by on so many occasions wondering what the cute candle lit restaurant was. Last night I finally got the chance to go! Staff could not have been warmer, more welcoming, or more accommodating. Food was delicious, especially the mussels, gnoochi, and steak. The space is super cute. The aesthetic feels like a mix between "dark, french bistro and American farm house. Great date vibes.
Great low key but chic spot in the mission. Fantastic (dare I say one of the best) wine selections I’ve seen in a city with top tier wine selections. Food was all balanced, flavorful, and had some interesting flairs without trying to reinvent the wheel. Would go back!
We discovered this place during a late night walk and the chef and staff were very accommodating and attentive to us. They gave us a really tasty squash dish on the house that ended up being our favorite that night! Desserts were not too sweet. Everything was very unique, creative and delicious. It’s a very cozy and delightful experience.
The best restaurant you’ve never been to in SF. Every time i have friends in town I take them here. Service is wonderful, food is delicious and well priced, atmosphere is cozy and vibey. Great selection of wine and vermouth. Probably my current favorite in the city. Cheers!
Delicious food ~ set menu and a la carte. Champagne and wine list ideal. Highly recommend.
Really cozy little restaurant with a french vibe. The menu is an interesting blend of french, italian and american, overall a really delicious selection of dishes. The wine selection is great too. Overall great vibes and really delicious food.

We had reservations for heirloom and everything worked out just fine. I had a chicken dish that was extremely flavorful and delicious. The avocado was a great touch and although I don't usually like corn, it really worked with this dish. It was also spicy which I enjoyed. The bavette (steak) medium rare was lovely and i recommend that as well. My party split the strawberry shortcake and although i didn't have any, they loved it. The wine list is also quite extensive.
We had a nice experience during our visit for a late dinner. The menu is concise and balanced, and the dishes feel elevated in terms of flavor composition and technique. Great staff and a casual atmosphere with an amicable total in terms of the check at the end
Very SF vibe with lovely front entryway and wine decor with rustic finish combined with a homey dining room feel, this restaurant’s high points are its food and interesting (and delicious) wine. Mussel dish was off the charts good. The chef even serves the food to you with a rotating wait staff eager to get it right. Upgraded dishwater and glassware would be the only real suggestion to give this little gem the highest of marks. Enjoy!

good but overpriced and it feels really, really, really white, the bathroom has photos of all of the employees hanging out and you’ll notice that not a single one of them has a drop of melanin. decor leaves a lot to be desired and plating was just meh
I have mixed feelings about this place. The ambiance was great - I felt like I was in another country and I really liked the decor. On the other hand, neither the service, including hostess or server, or food was mind-blowing, and it was a bit pricey for the experience. The gnocchi was good, and the chicken was good, but not the worth the price. The duck and salmon were so-so. The appetizers were good, but again, just didn't feel like the value was there, with so many other options in the city.
My husband and I came to Heirloom for a wine dinner and left very disappointed 1) The wine pours were extremely small. When I emailed the restaurant afterwards the manager said "My expectation is that some people will be getting into a car and driving home, so I want to make sure that after about a 3-hour meal, anyone doing so will be under the legal limit." This excuse does not seem honest. People dining at this restaurant are adults knowingly going to a wine dinner and planning accordingly and responsibly, I don't know why the restaurant is thinking their customers would drink and drive. 2) At the end of the dinner there was a leftover half bottle of wine at the table my husband and I were sitting at, as is customary at other wine events I asked if I could have a cork for the bottle and instead the restaurant manager snatched the bottle away. When I emailed he said "I would rather write this email and get feedback about my failure to communicate than to have someone see bottles being carried out and wonder why they didn’t get a chance to do the same." As a young brown Mexican female I am used to people mistreating me, but to have the restaurant owner openly acknowledge he would rather have me be upset than risk his other customers being upset is very telling of how unwelcoming this place is for anyone that doesn't look traditional. My husband and I had loved Heirloom for their wine for years and were so excited about trying their vegetarian wine dinner. Unfortunately this experience has encouraged us to go to friendlier restaurants.
I came here on June 28 and had an incredible experience. The food was excellent and the service was amazing. I felt welcomed and taken care of. That night is what made me want to come back. Tonight was the opposite. The food was still great, but the service was shockingly dismissive. From the start I felt rushed, like my presence was an inconvenience. Our server didn’t greet us, barely spoke, never smiled, and acted like he couldn’t wait for us to leave. I even tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it only got worse. What made it more frustrating is that every other staff member we interacted with was kind and welcoming, which only highlighted how cold our own server was. It completely ruined the energy of the meal. I had been excited to bring a friend here after raving about my last visit, and instead I left embarrassed and unwelcome. Based on tonight, I will not be returning. Reservation was under Michael Anderson at 8:45 p.m. if management cares to check.
