Shout out to Horatio's for making our 25th Wedding Anniversary very memorable. I reached out to the restaurant for info on large party reservations. Alexis, their event coordinator quickly got back to me with the information I needed. We decided to stick with Horatio's for our celebration. It was the best experience ever from the pre planning to the event itself. The staff was great, the food was delicious, the ambience was beautiful. Originally we had planned to renew our vows in the restaurant space, but then I spotted a small pier behind the restaurant and decided our group of 40 would meet there for our "renewal ceremony". We then walked over for dinner at the restaurant. It was pretty perfect if you ask me. What a gem we have in San Leandro! Thank you to everyone who made our evening extra special.
I’ve been going to Horatio’s for over 10 years now. It’s one of my favorites places to eat. This time, I ordered the Crab-stuffed Mahi Mahi which was juicy and tender on the inside and nicely crisp on the outside. The crème brûlée, which is my favorite dessert, Was done perfectly. Lastly, their wine and spirits menu is really good.
Prices are very good for a waterfront restaurant. Food was tasty. The service however was excellent. Angie our server was delightful and attentive. Horatio’s is highly recommended.
We reserved on Valentine’s Day and had the 3 course meal. The steak was mouthwatering and the lobsters pasta was tasteful.
Fantastic location with a great view in Alameda. The food and the service is exceptional. One of my favorite restaurants. Everything on the menu is good! I love scallops and I enjoy the ways they prepare it and serve it differently every time I go there. Today they served it with risotto. It was delicious!
We went there for my son 13th birthday. Great place with a nice view of the San Leandro marina. Foods was great my family loved. Thanks to the bartender for the extra kick on our drinks, Mai Tai and Tokyo tea and our waitress was great too. We had a great evening and thanks again.
Food was fast, hot, delicious, services was friendly. Everyone ask if you need anything, clean the tables. We'll good services 👍 😀 😊 👌
Came here for Father’s Day weekend and the food and service were top notch. Our server Daniel was great and attentive. Service with a smile the entire time. The manager checked on us regularly as well even though it was a busy day and every table was packed. They really made the experience wonderful for our family. The food was well prepared and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend eating here if you are in the area. Even worth going out of your way to way to enjoy a quality meal.
Horatio’s is San Leandro’s hidden gem. We had the clam chowder, seafood trio, crab dip, and the old fashioned. Everything was fabulous. The seafood was cooked to perfection, the bread was just out of the oven and warm dripping with garlic butter, the clam chowder was not a traditional New England chowder but I think it was even better! The restaurant is super comfy with beautiful views on the water.
Love this restaurant! Edit: as of 10-2018 I found out that this restraunt is owned by "Universal Restaurants" and is based in another state. Sadly, have also noticed the addition of a "living wage" entry on the bill. This is designed to "balance" the cost of a 15.00 minimum wage effort. I absolutely disagree with establishments adding charges to "offset" government compliaance costs.
Great food, great bar. I've heard about this place for years and finally went. Definitely going back!
Our server Chad was amazing, I can't believe I had never been here before! The atmosphere is excellent and food here was delicious. Our only complaint was the wait time, it took 40 minutes to get our food and 30 minutes for our dessert, but we were given extra garlic bread and 1 dessert commted for waiting so long. Overall great experience and we will be coming back!
Sep 2023 The service was absolutely outstanding. The Calamari appetizer was perfect. Oven Roasted Crab and Artichoke Dip, shrimp and beef tip appetizer could not have been better. Bread was excellent. My Drake's Denoganizer was a perfect fit for our appetizers. A perfect place for a great meal or just appetizers. Nov 2022 The Calamari was perfect, could not have been better. My Sole was outstanding. My wife's Mahi Mahi was good but could have been better with a sauce. The bread was perfect. Glad they had a Porter on their beer list. Nice to see they had 2 local beers on the list. The view was outstanding. The waiter was attentive and outstanding. Our previous experiences were not good and we were planning to stop going here but after our perfect meal, we will be back. March 2022 We had the "Oven Roasted Crab and Artichoke Dip", it was excellent. The "Country Fried Calamari" was excellent. The house bread was great. The "Fish and Chips" were fair. The fries were not crispy and undercooked. The amount was great, 3 pieces but the flavor was so so. The tarter sauce was also off. The "Asiago Crusted Sole" was very disappointing, the white sauce did not pair well with the fish. The "Key Lime Pie" was good but did not have the normal intense lime flavor I am used to having. The service was wonderfully outstanding, very attentive with a great personality. The view from the tables are beautiful!!!! Wonderful location overlooking the Marina. Parking was plentiful and free. The bathrooms were very clean and well stocked but the floors are uneven so be careful.
Amazingly tasty food. Great atmosphere, views and awesome staff. I used to come here back in the day and decided to check it out again and am so glad I did.
came here for a party. nice place. bar is cool. nautical theme is awesome. staff is amazing. got to see the sun set. and planes land at oakland airport french dip is good.
Loved it! Took the crew to dinner and everyone enjoyed their food. The almond crusted scallops were perfect only thing I would add is more scallops! The wine and liquor choices were extensive and many good choices. Highly recommend Horatio's.
I recently attended a going away party for a dear friend and Horatio's was my friend's restaurant of choice. If you enjoy seafood- then this is the place for you. Conveniently located in the San Leandro Marina, there is lots of parking all around the restaurant. Walking in I see the host desk and lots of indoor seating inside. There's seating at the bar, inside the restaurant and in the back of the place for larger parties. There's plenty of windows all around so no matter where you sit, you've got a great view of the Marina. After dining, there are walking trails if you want to take a stroll around the Marina and the interior decor gives nautical vibes. They boast an extensive menu depending on the time/day that you come (including lunch, brunch, dinner, cocktail and happy hour). Our party of 15 showed up on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30. Our servers, McGyver (like the TV show) and Glenna were so personable, attentive and full of great menu suggestions. Pricing for lunch runs about $10-$35 which is about normal and in my opinion a good deal considering the quality of the food and portion sizes. Our servers suggested the Lunch Box special -for $25 you can order two items from (2) menus of an appetizer, soup, salad, sandwich or two entrees. I decided to go for the clam chowder and the seafood pesto pasta which was highly recommended. Here's my breakdown: STARTERS: We were served warm garlic bread immediately and it was right on time. Usually, I try not to fill up on the bread but I couldn't resist.... a nice slather of garlicky butter rested on top of the crust and the bread was nice, warm and soft- came with a plate of oils and herbs. YUM! ENTREES: I am a huge fan of clam chowder and this didn't disappoint. I got the cup and it was full of flavor and clams like I enjoy- the potatoes were diced pretty small but I really liked it overall. I'm also not a big pasta girl but the seafood pesto pasta was highly recommended by both servers so I trusted their expertise and they were right. The portion was so big I had to take 1/2 of it to go- it was filled with lots of salmon, asparagus, artichokes, carrots and fettucine noodles in a thick creamy sauce. Very flavorful! My friend orders the same thing each time she comes- it was an herb crusted chicken dish with creamy mashed potatoes and spinach. Going around the table, everyone mentioned how much they enjoyed their dishes. This is a great location for groups, a first date or a happy hour meet up with friends. CHECK THEM OUT!
The restaurant is very cozy, dark wood interior, must be beautiful during the day to enjoy the ocean view on a wide glass window. We went during holiday, so its perfect for that holiday cozy feel. The food is perfect, and service is excellent. A little pricey but worth it for special occasion. Such a happy treat for our whole family to enjoy our Xmas eve gift exchange together. Definitely a must try 👍♥️
Our first dining experience here, as they were one of the few restaurants open for Thanksgiving. Servers are hardworking and work as a team helping each other. Members of our dining party have food allergies and our server Emily was fantastic and checked on which entrees would be okay for them to eat. --Thank you so much! The turkey, prime rib, filet, and sampler appetizers were all good. The clam chowder was okay, the potatoes were a bit too chunky and not tender. Only salad option was the Caesar salad which was heavy on the dressing. We enjoyed our dining experience and will be back to try other items on the menu. Also, the manager was friendly and stopped by to make sure our Landry's points were added correctly.
One of my favorite restaurants in the East Bay. Lots of great memories at this restaurant. This time I took my youngest daughter & her best friend to celebrate my daughter's Beauty School graduation. Perfect weather for sitting outside on their patio & the food was excellent, as always. Have never had a bad meal there.
Horatio's Restaurant at the San Leandro Marina in California offers a diverse menu, tasty food, and outstanding service. There is a very beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay from most of the seats. Banquet rooms are available. There is plenty of parking out front and clean bathrooms. We had a group of 20 for a club dinner and they did a wonderful job. We will be back.
This was our first time eating at Horatio’s and it didn’t disappoint! We have always driven by this place when we go to the marina but never stop in. We went on February 12 for an early Valentines dinner and chose to get their Valentines Special dinner. The special dinner was $130 for two people and included 3 courses. Our waitress Maria was very nice! I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, they played good music choices and very clean. First Course: The warm bread with garlic butter is delicious and is the perfect shareable size. I had the Pointe Reyes Blue Cheese Salad and the toppings and dressing was amazing! My husband got the Romaine Caesar and it was very good also, I am just a blue cheese fan! Second Course: I got the filet and shrimp, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. My steak was cooked perfectly…very juicy and tender on the inside and char on the outside. I loved that it was not over seasoned or salty… it had such a great flavor I didn’t need to add anything else to it. The shrimp was seasoned nicely, the mashed potatoes tasted perfect and were very creamy, and the asparagus was very tender. My husband got the prime rib and it was delicious. I really enjoyed the creamy horseradish sauce it came with. Third Course: I got the crème brûlée and was so creamy and just delicious, loved the fruit on top! I stole a bite of my husband’s chocolate dessert and it was perfect… very moist and chocolaty! Overall, I highly recommend Horatio’s and give the food a 10/10! Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly and great portion sizes. We definitely need to come to try more menu items and see the bay in the daytime!
Always amazing and Angelene was amazing. Came for Valentine’s Day. If you care about quality and appreciate a restaurant that gets all the details right.
Asked if I could sit on the patio dude said sure, got dark and they didn't turn the lights on. If the patio wasnt open he shouldn't have had me sit out there.
I dont normally write reviews. But people that are complaining about this place are lying! I had the crab and shrimp pasta and it was absolutly perfect! Really rich and creamy and made from scratch by the taste. My dad had the Lobster bisque that i tryed and that was phenominal as well. Deffinantly a place id try if your in the area. I had no complaints. Staff was super friendly and awesome aswell. They also have happy hour from 3-6 with great choices ranging from 6$-13$. 6$ draft beers. Like i said i never write reviews but were coming back again tomorrow night. As my dad and i come to this area once every other week. We found a new spot
Excellent food. Excellent service. Came here with 8 for my father in law's birthday. Everyone was very happy with their food and even though it was packed we didn't have to wait very long for anything. The dining room is huge and open so it got a little loud but it wasn't crazy. I will definitely be back
What a perfect evening!!! Our waiter was attentive, polite and made a milestone birthday super special! The food was well-presented and delicious! We had the warm Brie with macadamia nut crust and seared teriyaki tenderloins as our hors d’oeuvres to start! Then, we had the crab and shrimp fettuccini, clam chowder, and Point Reyes Farmstead Blue Cheese Salad as our entrees! The crème brûlée with the candle on top as the birthday surprise was a nice touch!! Our waiter was so kind to even take perfect photos to capture the birthday moments! What a special evening! The staff were all very polite, friendly, and amiable. The view was impressive! The food was very delicious! The portion sizes were just right! The service was spectacular! The waiter checked on us often and made sure all our needs were attended to. Everyone including the host were extremely courteous. We were very very happy and satisfied with our dining experience and will surely return very soon!
Horatio's is truly fantastic in every way, a destination that, like me, will have you wondering how on earth you had not discovered it earlier. - Outstanding delicious and really big plate servings, with many menu option. - service is excellent with caring very attentive, cheerful staff. - the restaurant is a beautiful design from the past with nautical influences. - location is really fantastic. It's San Leandro by the Bay beside a really beautiful big park and incredibly enjoyable long walking paths by the water. Horatio's is the absolute best restaurant l've enjoyed in every way possible 😋👌👍🫶🤲🤝🙏
So, I chose Horatio's after reviewing them online. I went during their lunch menu hours which ended @ 3:00 p.m. The manager on duty took good care of me and seated me in a booth w/incredible views, my waitress was attentive and knowledgeable, the bartender was excellent (my drink a Rare & Fancy Old Fashioned) was exceptional and smooth, crept up on me in a good way. I ordered the Fisherman's Platter and I wasn't disappointed the shrimp were colossal size, the scallops were large and tender, the crab bites were delicious. I could just barely walk out I was so pleasantly full. Great environment, upscale and cozy. Beautiful patio outside to enjoy your meal with a view of the Marina as well. I highly recommend you treat yourself to a meal here.
Upon arrival for reservation, we were seated immediately to a quiet setting next to the western facing windows as the sun was setting🌅😎 Appetizer (half shell oysters 😋)came quick as well as drinks.. our main entrees came quick thereafter 😁 and lemme say it was one of those meals meant to savor and make inappropriate noises while consuming 🤣 It was probably the best birthday dinner Ive ever had ... Service was perfect and the complimentary créme brulee and Ice cream put us close to the moon. Well recommended..$$$ well worth it.
I haven’t been here in years. We came for a family Christmas Eve dinner. The inside of this place is just gorgeous and the views of the bay are breathtaking. The atmosphere here is just insane and a more fine dining experience. The Christmas dinner menu is limited you can pick a soup or salad then one entrée and 1 dessert for $60-$65 a person. They start you off with fresh bread with garlic butter onto which was very buttery and fresh. I piked the lobster bisque and my wife got the clam chowder both had good chunks of seafood in it and was very tasty some of the best soups I’ve had. Then I got those prime rib which was very good not as good as the house of prime rib but their horseradish was very strong and I loved it. Then for Dessert we had key lime pie and the cheesecake. Both were amazing, I loved the cheesecake more it had so much flavor for just a plain cheesecake. Overall a wonderful experience I even love those cocktails I got a smoky bourbon drink that they came out to our table and light it on fire and left a smoke cloud on your drink. It was so cool. I’ll most definitely have to come back and try their main menu.

Great environment with family of five. I had the ribeye medium and salad. Great servers and manager’s were very generous in helping us celebrate our birthdays and anniversaries.
Very romantic place for a couple of family, Very nice and Old preserved building, nice features and nice waiters?
The restaurant is lovely inside and they have patio dining that I guess they don’t advertise because servers don’t wanna walk out to the patio to serve. It was a lovely afternoon so I wanted to be outside. The service was really slow and no one else was there. I had to ask for a silverware, water three times, and salt and pepper. You could tell that the waiter, who was very sweet, was new or really challenged by going from inside diners to outside diners. I went all out and chose the filet mignon with crab and Bernaise sauce and it was OK. Nothing to write home about, the mashed potatoes were a puréed glob, and the asparagus ends were a bit tough, but it was OK. I did get a suggestion on wine that turned out to be really good, but prices are high for the rest of the experience. I asked for an after dinner, drink, and coffee and had to ask for cream, but by the time it got there, I had just taken the cream out of the after dinner drink and put it in my coffee and I was fine. It’s kind of sad because it’s really a beautiful location and I can see there’s care but you also can tell it’s not very busy since the marina closed.
We’ve been coming here for years and today was the first time we didn’t have the best service…. Wilmer was our server and we were not impressed unfortunately. We watched all the other waiters and waitresses have such friendly interactions with the customers while our waiter barely said anything at all. It was upsetting honestly.. We felt like we were a burden, as crazy as that sounds. Overall food was great but service wasn’t. Usually I tip 20 percent but tonight 15. I’m not paying for service I didn’t receive.
Horatio's has a lovely location on the waterfront, and the ambience is so quaint and charming with the lighthouse façade, old cloakroom, and various sailing antiques and artifacts throughout the restaurant! We went at peak dinnertime and the restaurant appeared to have a ton of open tables, so I wouldn't assume reservations would be necessary if you're not coming on a special day. Our server was attentive and kind, and made sure to check in on us periodically. They had a lot of yummy-sounding seafood options on the menu, and also had a pretty good-looking selection drinks! However, prices are very high here and the portion sizes are rather scant. :( A table of 2 girls behind us appeared to have ordered just 2-3 appetizers to share, for which I certainly didn't blame them. For the record, their oysters looked wonderful! Our party of 2 went the other way with just 2 entrées: 1) Perhaps it was ignorant of us, but the shrimp scampi is NOT a pasta dish- instead it's just a few pieces of grilled shrimp, along with a little portion of sides. 2) My dish of scallops was similarly just a few pieces of seafood alongside some veggies and a dollop of mashed potatoes, but I at least very much appreciated that each scallop was perfectly cooked and breaded. The beurre blanc sauce was very rich and made for tantalizing flavor. All in all, I'm glad we've tried this place once! The décor and location really do make for a special occasion, but I can't see us coming much again given the prohibitive prices and portions.
Simple basic food well done and presented. Excellent service from MacGyver. However. Scenery without boats is still beautiful California but tells of this depressing times. Never as grand as before. Good enough for good food and service.
Stopped in for lunch with a colleague today, this was my second time eating here with the last time being a group dinner. Food was good, only next time I will order a fish dish. I would have given 5 stars but my order was wrong, they did immediately correct it. The garlic focaccia bread they bring out is awesome.
Lovely Christmas lunch with a prix fixe menu and lots of delicious options. Reasonable prices and close to home for us. Highly recommend this one for special occasions!
The food was good, I got a shrimp fettuccine and couldn’t finish because it was too much. There was also a bar there but I couldn’t go. The service was nice, the waitress was kind and funny. The atmosphere was nice if you got a table next to the window then you could see the harbor. But it was really sunny.
First time dining here. The decor mimics the inside of a ship with lanterns, murals, oars hanging on the ceiling, roped off sections reminiscent of being on a barge. Love the view looking out to the water. We had a 4.30 reservation. Arrived on time, were quickly seated next to a window with a view. Server brought out fresh warm garlic bread. I was looking forward to the almond crusted sea scallops but sadly this was the one dish that wasn't available. But our starters were delicious. Highly recommend the crab & artichoke dip with garlic bread. Since the dish I wanted wasn't available, I ordered grilled salmon with Orange fennel relish. The salmon could've used a min or two less on the grill but it was still tasty! Another person in my party had grilled halibut that was dry and overdone. Lobster tails looked amazing. The person who ordered filet mignon loved it. By the time we finished our mains we didn't have any room for dessert! This was a great way to wrap up Father's day weekend. We're all ready for a nap now.
Wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion. Some favorites are the crab dip appetizer, French onion soup, rack of lamb, hamburger and prime rib. While the quality of the food is high, so are the prices. Go to Costco before visiting and pick up some discounted gift cards. You will save 20% on your meal. The restaurant is also in need of some upgrades - starting with the carpet that is worn and should be replaced.
Tried this place for the first time. We were not disappointed. Inside, you'll be sitting inside of what resembles the inside of an old ship. The ambiance is nice. It's on the dark side because the lighting is pretty dim. The A/C was blowing pretty fierce. I was fine but my wife was chilly. The views were very nice. We were able to see a very nice sunset over the harbor. The price? It is on the pricey side, so be prepared. Now, to the food. We started with the Calamari. It was seasoned well and was nice and crispy. It was not the best we've had, but it was enjoyable. My wife ordered the Filet Mignon. She had it topped with dungeness crab and bearnaise sauce. It came with Yukon gold mashed potatoes which was delicious, and asparagus. I ordered the Ribeye steak. This came with the same delicious mashed potatoes and asparagus. The ribeye had a very nice char taste. It was seasoned well and came in at 16oz. Honestly, it was not the best ribeye I've had, but I did enjoy it. It was a great evening out at a place that I would go to again. Try it!
Great service! The staff were very friendly and attentive. They sat us by the window and our view was the marina and a beautiful sunset. We ordered the fried calamari with artichoke it was good. We also ordered the rack of lamb which was also good but not great because the crust was too thick so it made the outside too crackly and it had burnt parts, the meat itself was tasty. We also ordered the scallops, it was also crusted 😒 their sauce was good though, just didn't like that everything was prepared with coating and fried. They could use better presentation too. We will come back to try other dishes, staff was excellent.
An excellent American dining experience for everyone. The decor is very refined in a spacious location. The menu has a variety of high end eating choices. The ambiance is appealing and refined. Make sure to sample the clam chowder with caramelized bacon and Italian parsley. You will not be disappointed because the food is very filling and you will take some to go. The wait staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. They will do whatever they can to cater for your needs.
Birthday lunch for my mom. The wait staff was excellent attentive. A waiter was training a new waitress. She was great. He was a little aggressive in his tone, harse with his words. The food was great. Seafood platter and burgers were a hit with the group. The lady that seated us was wonderful. There was another male host who was not as kind as her. He was curt, especially to our group, which included elderly people. If not for the 2 employees who were mentioned as a negative. I would have rated it as 5 stars. This is an iconic restaurant . I will return.
I'll start by saying the service was great. Our server was kind, attentive, and knew a lot about the menu. The food was good, but there were a couple of things we didn't really care for. That, along with the cost of the meal, is why I'm giving 4 stars. We loved everything on the appetizer sampler, and I especially liked the teriyaki seared sirloin. The brie was great as was the clam chowder. The lobster bisque had a bit too much sherry for my taste, but the lobster in it was tender. For my entree I got the 16oz ribeye with shrimp. The steak was excellent, cooked perfectly, juicy and well seasoned. The shrimp though were a bit tough and pretty dry. I'd skip the shrimp next time and maybe just do the garlic butter on top. We shared the lobster mac and cheese, and all of us were underwhelmed. The lobster was overcooked and the cheese sauce was so thin it didn't really stay on the noodles. I wouldn't get that again. We did really enjoy the rigatoni bolgnese. Good sized portion and the sauce was delicious. For dessert we had a creme Brulee which was pretty standard. Nothing special but it was tasty. Overall we had a really good time, and did enjoy our meal. I would definitely come back with a few adjustments to our order.

Great view and good food. Very pleasant and enjoyable lunch. seafood excellent. The marina mneedscto be restored but still offers a feeling of being on a docked boat.
Excellent experience for a mid-afternoon snack/meal after arriving to nearby hotel. Right on the water at the marina. Yummy lobster bisque and salad. Wonderful garlic butter bread to start.
My family and I used to really enjoy this restaurant but we stopped going a few years back after a few disapointments with the cooking of ribeye and prime rib e.g. sometime they would run out, overcook the meat, or the overal quality of the cuts, etc. We decided to give the restaurant another try, but sadly found they still haven't improved.
I enjoy going to Horatio's for different reasons; the food, the views, the atmosphere, the happy hour, the burger and the location. I love the calamari, probably the best around and it's consistent. My issue is the service. They always seem under staffed with waiters. Been coming for years, and I've been at least 5 times in the last 3 months. Most times the food was good but the service was sub standard. One evening I came in and it was horrible. Seems like it was one young man serving everyone and he just couldn't keep up. So many people were complaining. One couple which I knew told me they had been waiting over 45 minutes for a steak but they had gotten their other food. My order came out in a reasonable time but it wasn't as I ordered. I waited for the adjustments but the food was getting cold so I was slowly eating. By the time I finished, the server brought the adjustments to the table (not need now). Never got any bread, although I requested it multiple times. Then when I finally got the bill, I was over charged🤯. The server didn't know how to adjust the price. I just asked for a slice of key lime pie to go. The bartender accommodated my request. The pie wasn't cold, seemed a bit room temperature. I didn't even eat it. I want to be clear, the servers all seem to be pleasant and friendly. Just seems that the lack of help creates a problem with sufficient service. There seems to be a need for more leadership in management. I still tip but the servers may lose out a little when the service isn't good. I hope the management team makes some operation improvements.
I absolutely love this place. This was my fourth time there. The first three times were awesome. However, the fourth time was for my birthday dinner 1/6/24. We were seated almost immediately, and drinks were at the table within 10 minutes, but it took an hour to get our food, and ALL of our food was cold when it arrived and one of my lobster tails was burnt. Very disappointing. However, the waiter was nice.
Appetizer was fabulous! Unfortunately the rest of the food was not as good. Seasonings were off and some of the food had obviously sat under the heat lamp for way too long. Our server had to be new...normal things like refilling water and taking away menus and dishes in a timely manner didn't happen unless we asked. I've had dinner here in the past and always enjoyed the experience. I will rethink my restaurant options in the future.
Went for the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Everything was pretty good except for the star of the show. The turkey was so salty it was inedible. The dressing was excellent, the mash potatoes were very good, as was cranberry sauce. But I'm guessing they bribed the turkey cause the turkey tasted like it was soaked in salt.
So this place is well known in the area. But, does it live to the hype. Ambiance and decoration is well up there and love it. Waiting for a table was fast and quick. Then into food. Food portions are small and one little side is added. Improvement needed there. Drinks were strong and on point. And last service. 0. Slow and non helpful. Maybe they can improve and make it better. Over good first time experience. But won't come back. Only saving grace is food and drinks. If you want a small bird meal.
Server was very busy when i arrived at the bar. Getting a drink took a few. Ordered lobster bisque for starters. It was brought out with some delicious bread. Soup was ok. It did have a few good pieces of lobster. Dinner was the grilled salmon. Started out ok then as i got further into the salmon it was under cooked. I showed it to my server and they agreed. They were very prompt about taking it back. I had a great experience with the service but the food was lack luster.
In a nutshell: food meh, service decent, atmosphere good. Two of us had the shrimp and crab pasta. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. The lump and rock crab was from a can and looked like cat food. Didn’t taste good either. Pasta was okay, just flavorless. Garlic bread was probably the best thing we ate. I also had a watermelon salad. It had lavender cornmeal croutons that I picked out after eating a couple. Unpleasant taste that conflicted with watermelon. They could have left the arugula off too as it added nothing but color to the salad and the flavor didn’t blend. Our companion had the seafood Louie, which she really liked. The server was very nice and personable. I would have liked more check backs on the food and drinks but otherwise okay. Nice location on the San Leandro marina. Big parking lot. Plenty of seating. Nice view. Noise level was good.
I took my daughter here for her 21st birthday. The food was good and the atmosphere was even better. One of the best things on the menu was the crab dip, it's absolutely delicious! The Caesar salad was also really good. My daughter said her ribeye was just okay, so that was disappointing considering it was her birthday and the amount is money that I spent. I'd go back for drinks, appetizers and their pork chop for sure!
We were celebrating a special day and decided on Horatio's because we hadn't been in years and it once had a nice view. We were seated immediately and assigned a waiter who introduced him self and took our drink and food orders. That was literally the last time he came to our table. Info Reviews More li From that point forward we never saw our waiter again. A manager came and introduced herself walking around with black gloves she had on in the kitchen I just saw her in on our way in. We had to inquire about our order to the second manager that came over. By that time we had been waiting over thirty minutes for our food. The food finally came and it was just ok. We had the fish and chips platter, pasta with shrimp and crab, hamburger and crab artichoke dip. There was no crab in the artichoke dip. They could be so much better if they hired more wait staff. Our assigned waiter was given a party of 15 people that were seated in another section across from us. Read the reviews? I did and still made the mistake of going.
What happened to this place? Omg. It used to be so special. It wasn't even that busy in the lounge and dining room almost empty. Food was ok but not the best. I think my martini was short maybe some spilled out on tray on the way to table. Not happy about that. Not a manager in sight. Do better. We all can do better... train your team and support them to do better. Something is missing 😔
I think this must be the only higher level restaurant in the area because it could be better but people are still going to come. I had what's called a reservation. I indicated it was to celebrate a birthday and a window table would be preferred. They first tried to seat us in the bar where everyone was wearing t-shirts and jeans and we were nicely dressed. After I reminded him that we had a reservation he attempted to put us at a table not near a window even though there were open tables near the window. So then I asked if reservations were useless there. A server overheard our discussion and had him put us in her section at a window table. He tried to say they never know how many people are going to show up and that's why we weren't going to be seated at the window and I kept asking what good was a reservation then? Ultimately not a single person in the restaurant bothered to say happy birthday. Experience so far: 0/5 The bread they provide is unique in that it has garlic butter on top. It's good but you need more butter for the rest of the bread. The menu is limited overall. People come here because they must like what's on the menu not because there are a lot of choices. We both got the prime rib. It was fine. The mashed potatoes were great! This is a rare restaurant that has asparagus as the veg which was fabulous. The horseradish was pretty good and I don't generally like horseradish. Dessert menu had choices but only one chocolate option, the lava turtle cake. Now I'll say it was good but I wouldn't call it lava. It was a warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream with chocolate drizzle, pecans (which they claimed were candied pecans but they were not) and caramel sauce which I generally don't care for but theirs went well with the dessert. At one point I had to wait for a while just to get more water. I thank the server for helping us get a window table in her section, but it felt like we were always trying to be upsold on food and alcohol items. There were more valuable tables around us with more people who were drinking and doing appetizers. So I understand from a server perspective we weren't a good table. We only spent $150 for 2 people. God forbid! I would not return overall and I wish we had just gone to SF. Normally we take photos of ourselves and the food but we didn't bother. 😒
The food was mostly good but the lobster bisque was horrible or it had been held too long. When I go to an upscale place I don't want to be rushed, so I normally will only order one course at a time, so I'll the food doesn't show up at once. We'll I broke my rule, and what do you know my huge and good combination appetizer wasn't 1/4 finished when here comes the bisque followed within 2 minutes of the entree. Now my entrees are getting cold so I can enjoy the app. I get it I have served, its more efficient and during s very busy dinner everything probably would have taken longer but We were one of 3 couples in the restaurant. Slow it down. Once the food was served she never checked back, not because she was busy...lol I had to complain about the bisque to the buss person who took care of it. Honestly won't go back. I would say it was just okay.
Made reservation but they were not ready to seat us until 15 minutes after reservation. And we intentionally did early dinner time slot. So my advice is to plan accordingly and just show up early for an earlier reservation time since they may not provide you your table at the appointed reservation time. Food was a mix bag. The slow roasted herb crusted ribeye was delicious - had it cooked medium rare. But the seafood trio was a no go - taste was mediocre. We ordered kids a pasta and a fish and chip. I would say it's kind of a joke - pasta was cooked on the mushy side and too salty, while the fried battered fish seemed like those frozen ones pumped with water (it had that slight spongy and watery texture that my kids didn't eat it after the first bite). Service was poor. Server had to be reminded multiple times just to bring either a coloring sheet for the kids, or for some napkins. The evening that we went seemed to be on the average loud side and since we were seated at the corner upon entry to the lower dining space, it was a constant buzz - one would have thought being in such a spot there would be greater service but nope. Overall a disappointing experience considering the $$$ paid for a meal there. Only thing that made it tolerable was the view.
Family lunch on a weekday. The hostess station was very crowded and there was a line; we had a reservation but didn't need it. We were seated and shortly later, ordered drinks, as they arrived, we …
The hostess left a lot to be desired! A large group was already at the check in when we arrived, she seated them & came back only to go off some where without taking our name. At this point another group comes in with the same reservation time as us (which has passed), she directs them to sit down. Then 2 people come in who are part of a group with a later reservation. She has them join their group, comes back to grab menus & immediately takes them to a table. When she finally returns to seat us she picked the worse possible available table. It had a group sitting on either side, there were tables close that would have more room, in the direct sun. It was so hot by the time we left it felt like a sauna. This greatly tainted the whole experience. Our waitress was fine, I truly hope she doesn’t tip out the hostess, the food okay but felt overpriced for the experience. We usually enjoy Horacio’s for special occasions, we will be rethinking our choice in the future.
The food use to be so much better and I only come here because I miss Kincaids and Scott's is bad as well. The food lacked salt and variety. I wish there were more seafood options for lunch or even a steak! The service was quite poor as well, we felt obligated to tip cause of everything going on but we won't be back. Sad to see a great place start to die. My grits weren't it at all either I expected something rich and creamy but they were thick and clumped together. No 👎⛔📵🔞🚭🚯
Dear Horatio’s Management Team, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share some feedback regarding a recent visit to your restaurant, which unfortunately left me quite disappointed. Prior to dining, I invited my daughter to join me, but she declined, citing poor experiences during her last visits. I chose to come regardless, hoping for better—but I found myself agreeing with her sentiments. I ordered a Caesar salad, and the Romaine lettuce was in poor condition. When I brought this to the staff’s attention, I was told that the lettuce had arrived from your supplier looking that way. If that’s the case, I strongly suggest removing the salad from the menu until it meets proper quality standards. Serving visibly subpar produce doesn’t reflect well on your kitchen. Additionally, the fries I was served were overcooked—dark, dry, and unappealing. As a food connoisseur, I live by the belief: If I wouldn’t enjoy eating it, I wouldn’t serve it to others. I think that same standard should apply in any reputable dining establishment. I also attempted to speak with a manager directly and left a message. Someone did return the call, but they let the phone ring only twice before hanging up, which only added to my frustration. Altogether, this experience left a bad taste in my mouth—both literally and figuratively. I hope this feedback is taken constructively and used to improve the quality and service for future guests.
we ordered delivery. our two mains did not arrive. doordash gave us the option of having our mains delivered "again". what we received was probably the food left behind by the driver. this was below room temperature (it's cold outside), therefore according to industry standards not safe to consume. totally disappointed, no dinner tonight. BUT i will say the deserts were very nice, totally enjoyed them. we do enjoy horatios, the was just an exceptionally bad and expensive experience.
Our server was excellent. Small group of women. I have been coming for years and was excited to the open faced crab sandwich. It was not the same. It was 99%onions, 1%crab if that. It didn't even taste the same. I think they changed the recipe.
I'm giving 2 star review because I booked my Thanksgiving reservation in advance, when my husband & I showed up to the restaurant the hostess couldn't find my reservation for 2, had to kindly remind her I confirmed my reservation the day before. When we were seated, we served drinks and the 1st waitress took our order, a couple of minutes later the manager said our 1st waitress had to go home, so we had a new waitress, the 1st waitress apparently didn't take down our order so we had to reorder our food, reason for my 2 star review was the wait time for food and for our drinks to be refilled was super slow, the waitress never brought the bread she offered to our table, we asked for the desserts to be to go because we were full, they were brought to the table instead and had to wait for them to be boxed to go had to wait to get the check, we used to love coming here to eat...We will not be coming to dine at this restaurant again nor will be recommending our friends or family to do so either, please hire better hostess front of the house employees who have better customer service skills, and hire waitresses and waiters that are faster, this is the longest time we ever sat in a restaurant (almost 2 hours waiting for food) the service was so slow. I gave the food 5 stars because the food was delicious, compliments to the chef & kitchen staff. I chose this restaurant because it was close to the house since my husband has to work, and that we've been here before, not the same restaurant vibe as when we were here last time.
Long rant... I had dinner at this location recently, and was displeased with the food and service. I've eaten here several times, and the food has been wonderful, and I know the staff works hard. This particular evening, as we were seated, the waiter came to our table to greet us, but he must've been overwhelmed, because he was rushing the conversation. First he explained only one to specialty, and he left to go wait on another table. He came back to see if we wanted any drinks and appetizers, we had asked for bread and glasses of water for the moment as we were considering our order. He came back with two glasses of water, and slammed them on the table and left to wait on another table behind us. When he finally came back to our table, we were ready to order, and, I had a question. He seemed very impatient, but we went ahead and ordered. I ordered the Grilled Seafood Trio, and my guest ordered Almond Crusted Sea Scallops. We ordered drinks as well, and when he returned with our drinks, again, he slammed them on the table and left. He finally brought out our food, mine was first, and then he went to get my guest's plate. While we were waiting, I looked at the portion size of the food on my plate, and looked at my guest. Finally, her plate came out, and she asked him about the advertised asparagus that came with the meal, what the menu didn't say, was that it was the tip of the top of the asparagus. She questioned them about the asparagus, and he went to bring her fuller asparagus. When I questioned the portion of the food on my plate, he could not accommodate anything. He then called the manager, who in turn said, that this is the correct portion. I've had this meal before, and it was not like this. My meal received for this visit, is in the attached picture. So, has the price of food increased that much, and the portions shrunk. Oh, BTW, we had to ask the waiter for our bread. When we complained about the waiter and the food, the waiter came back to our table and apologized for his manners, and then left. I will come back here again, I just be won't order this meal again. 😟
Unfortunately, I had a really bad experience last Sunday. I ordered a prime rib sandwich.Of course, there were two halves. One of them looked like a half of a half. The meat was very sparse. I …

Service was horrible, food was decent not great. Took over an hour for us to get our food after ordering. Never came back to check on the table, we had to go find waiter.
FOOD POISONING ALERT!!!! I have been coming to this restaurant for 40+ years. I have friends visiting from out of town and visited on September 17. I arrived before my friend who came from out of town when I walked in the front of the restaurant was infested replies. My instinct told me to turn around and leave. I went against my better judgment. And stayed. Once inside the bar area I noticed it was very dirty in there. The floors were filthy and had food all over them Again this was another red flag and I should have left. I was embarrassed to tell my friends what was going on so we stayed once I got home. I was immediately sick very hot day. I called and reported the food poisoning right away. I spoke with the manager Farris. I have spoken with him twice plus another female manager. I was told I would be contacted by corporate office. From the very beginning I let Farris know I wanted a refund on my meal because I got sick period. It has now been almost 3 weeks and nobody has contacted me. The management the restaurant has not offered me any compensation refunding my meal any type of compensation. Still my phone call from the corporate office. This is the warning that I will not eat, quality of service was terrible. I was asked to pay my bill before we were even done with our server, leaving for the day. The situation has been handled very poorly. This is the second I've ever done, but I thought it needed to be brought to the attention not patronize this business if I were you. I will not be going back. This was the family favorite restaurant of ours with the way situation has been handled. It's totally unacceptable.
Had my birthday dinner here we had a reservation where sat down in about 5 to 10 minutes after we arrived the service can pretty quickly we ordered calamari I ordered a class of wine the calamari came out quickly I had to ask a second time for my wine after 30 minutes 3 other table had been sat about 15 to 20 minutes after us the service came and brought out beverages we asked if we could order he said he'd be back the then he went to the other tables and ordered there dinner and had not come back to our finally we thought we were going to ordered but he just brought more beverages an hour went by the other tables received there dinner then we were able to ordered he seam overwhelmed and frustrated my mother tried to cheer him up but that lasted all of 5 min. In about another 30 min we finally got our dinner i had the ribeye steak my brother in law had shrimp my steak was edible but really had not flavor tasted as if it was cooked in water my brother in law got sick to his stomach just before he arrived him. Before that, there was my birthday cake he brought out with the candles . He left there, walked away, not an extra plate, no silverware, and no knife to cut it with. i wound up using a butter, know. To round it all up, it was a horrible experience, and I will not go back again. I have been here before, which is why I wanted to eat here it was great then.
Very disappointed. Seemed like they’re not putting much effort in their food. Clam chowder was cold. Then my entree shrimp scampi, again cold undercooked and just underwhelming. My friends dinner was disappointing as well. Our server was never around. He was tending bar as well as serving food. I wouldn’t recommend Horatios like I used to. The food and service doesn’t match up to the price.
I have been going here for years it was a family favorite for birthdays, special occasions or just for a nice treat. I recently want this weekend to celebrate a birthday. I was disappointed in the food. The taste was just not the same. Idk if there’s a new chef but our server was excellent and the atmosphere is always pleasing to the eye. However I think I’ll just settle for a walk around the marina next time.
I’ve been here before; apparently it’s been a minute. I made the mistake of raving about this place, suggesting to a couple of friends that it would be a great spot for Sunday brunch. But was I wrong. I have never had service this horrible, especially at this price. We had trouble even getting place settings for the three of us. Drinks took almost 40 minutes, and getting water took forever. The appetizer took over an hour, and we ended up passing one plate around between the three of us because our server couldn’t get it together and simply bring plates out with the order. By the time we placed our entrée order, we had already been there over an hour. The food then took another 45 minutes to an hour to arrive. We had to repeatedly ask for the salad, which, where I come from, generally shows up before the entrée. We asked for condiments, and the server put her hands up and said, “Wait!”—that she was trying to get the salad out. The place was not that busy. At all. To make it worse, the service felt incredibly impersonal. The server never introduced herself, staff do not wear name tags, and we had no idea who was actually taking care of us. We were not impressed by any of it, especially the service. Had our server actually introduced herself, I’d put her on blast right now. Finally, someone helped us get a manager to our table. The manager had noticed we’d been waiting a long time, yet didn’t step in until we asked. After making excuses for the lousy service, we sent the filet mignon back. It was dry and tough. Other food was overcooked, soggy, or lukewarm. The manager did end up sending out another filet and comping the entire meal. Even if they had tried to be a little more professional and courteous and kept drinks coming, it probably would have gone a long way. But being ignored, hands up and told to wait, is completely unacceptable. These people were rude and disingenuous—they’re in the wrong business. I felt terrible for suggesting this place. That’s 3.5–4 hours of life we won’t get back. I won't make that mistake twice.
