We loved Marti's Place since we moved to Alameda. We love Claudia and all the dishes we tried. We look forward to trying new dishes they added to the menu with the new re-opening.
If you looking for authentic classic breakfast cooked from an authentic kitchen and personal, this is the place to go.
Went for sunday morning breakfast. We had planned on eating at the Blue Dot, but found they were closed - On a sunday morning - who does that?(??!!). Anyways, we had walked by Marti's the day before and they're right across the street from the Blue Dot (and they were open of course). Dodged the oncoming traffic and headed inside. Lots of open tables. I had the Denver omlette and GF had Swedish pancakes with lingonberry jam, eggs/bacon. Omlette was healthy-sized and came with home fries and choice of toast. Good basic breakfast meal. Open on SUNDAYS! We'll go back. Check it out. They get 5 stars since Blue Dot was closed.
Trip back memory lane! I used to go here all the time for breakfast when I went to Sierra Academy at oak back in 2001 2002. Loved the Hungry Swede. I took my wife here a few years ago when we took a trip to Napa, bit of a drive from there but was nice to go there with her. I shall one day go with my kiddos (we live in Chicago).
We just moved to Alameda and came across this spot on a walk. This has become our goto place for breakfast or brunch on weekends. Everyone is so friendly and the food is delicious.
Really good! I'm not going to lie, I thought at first this place only served coffee sort of like a Starbucks but it turns out that they have a delicious breakfast menu. The staff was super friendly and bent over backwards to make sure you got everything you needed. I will come back!
Best pancakes ever. Martis scramble is amazing too. Delicious coffee both reg and decaf. Amazingly kind and wonderful staff. Always happy to be at Martis.
Their take on the classic Monte Cristo ("Breakfast Sandwich D" on their menu) was perfect, right down to the dusted coat of powdered sugar! The price was reasonable (by post-Covid standards), and the service was excellent... I'll be going back soon The prices were
Marti's Place is a cozy diner around the Gold Coast. I used to live near the area for the longest time, but now finally getting around to checking it out. Lots of great Mexican and American diner fare options. Homestyle potatoes are fresh, portions are huge, and service is fast.
The BEST breakfast and lunch place in town, in my opinion. The grilled tuna and potato salad is the best I've had anywhere (even outside of Alameda), as are the Swedish pancakes with lingonberry jam. Everything I've had has been great, really. Beautiful people working here; the hospitality and food is warm and comforting. I am saddened to see it has closed and do not know what the future holds for this place. God bless everyone at Marti's. We need more places like Marti's.
Food is delicious and the staff is great. The coffee is wonderful. Can’t recommend the huevos rancheros enough!!
From the warm, cozy, and friendly atmosphere to the delicious food, Marti’s place takes it all! Marti's place will have you feeling like you’re home surrounded with friends and family Sharing memories while having delicious food. Please don’t miss out. 😋
Linda and I discovered Marti's Place -- Alameda's very first "green" restaurant -- when we moved to an apartment a block away in 2009. We have enjoyed breakfast there regularly ever since. Fast, friendly service and great eggs and pancakes: my faves are the spinach omelette and the Marti's Scram (which I prefer without the cheese). We love seeing and staying in touch with the other regulars there. Remember -- cash or checks only!
Duuuude.. my breakfast was freaking awesome! It was my first time there and I called in a pickup. The sweedish breakfast was the best I've ever had. I wish I wasnt on the go cause I would have loved to share the meal with my sweetheart and slow down snd really savor it.. but let me tell you, the food is excellent, the staff felt like family, very caring.. it was busy too.. they didn't know it was my first time.. or that I offer my opinion publicly.. I highly recommend
Exceptional service and good food. This location is central to the community. A true dinner that brings people together.
Love me some Marti’s! Their French toast, pancakes, and eggs are always spot on. Staff is also super friendly.
Very friendly service from all of the staff and the food was excellent. I would definitely recommend this place the atmosphere is great. Thank you for the hospitality and good food
Absolutely delicious food! Awesome place for Swedish Pancakes, and any brunch, we loved the old town ambiance. They are also amazing with kiddos and make their pancakes with funny faces. This is now our new favorite spot for Sunday Brunch!
I love this place! I have been going here for over 15years. There was a change in ownership recently for the better! The head cook is also the owner. Food is sooooo good. I have had the chilaquiles and the huevos con chorizo. The service is very attentive. The atmosphere is homey. This place to me put Ole’s to shame. And it’s Latina owned which to me is important to support! This place is iconic! Yum! Go now! You will not be disappointed.
This location takes card now! Fantastic breakfast food, my personal go-to is the salmon omelet with dill sauce. And after years of going, the consistency of the omelet is the same. They have a lot more items to choose from now, including chilaquiles, Mexican breakfast, and a breakfast burrito. The chips in the chilaquiles were a bit stale but it did not compromise the overall taste of the plate. The standard pancakes were really good and extra fluffy. Overall, the place has maintained a high standard, and is located in a quiet area without much traffic. Easily bikable but not much bike parking nearby.
We stopped in for a weekday breakfast. Not crowded, looked like regulars enjoying themselves. I ordered eggs bacon and swedish pancakes. The eggs and bacon were good and the pancakes were very tasty. My sister ordered the blintzes. I tried hers and wished I had ordered that instead! Next time...
Always good food, friendly people. The swedish pancakes are excellent. Cash only.

Service was magnificent. They got our table ready right away. All our food tasted fresh and homemade the waffles are a must. The restaurant is very clean. Very well run family business. 10 of 10
Love this lil mom & pop diner. Food is mix of American & Mexican dishes. Workers are friendly and service is awesome! Very fast and crew is nice to talk to. Compliments to the chef because the food is always great!
Great place for breakfast and lunch! Family friendly. My favorite is the Swedish pancakes but lots of other good choices.
A wonderful American dining experience! The service was attentive and friendly; our server made sure we had everything we needed and was very knowledgeable about the menu. I tried the pot roast, and it was incredibly tender and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables complemented it perfectly. The ambiance was welcoming, with a cozy, family-friendly vibe and rustic décor. The music and lighting created a pleasant atmosphere that made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this spot for a comforting meal!
The medium-cooked bacon was a standout, perfectly prepared. also enjoyed the berry waffles and hot chocolate. This was a fantastic experience, and l'm definitely looking forward to returning. l'd give it a 10/10.
Just a hot chocolate drinker here, who found this place charming and peaceful. We pay before leaving and a lot of people come in couples, that say a lot. It's actually busier than we think. This review was written under st Martin's eyes, so you can count on my honesty.
Underrated breakfast diner- loved the delicate and simple swedish pancakes! Well priced and good service. There wasn't a wait on a Sunday morning, give it a try
Great little place for breakfast. Excellent coffee that gets refilled often. My husband ordered Swedish pancakes and I ordered the scramble. Wonderful food and service.

Gathered here with a group of friends. 8 of us showed up, and the staff was kind enough to quickly put a couple tables together and take great care of us. The food was delicious as always, prices are reasonable, and they were extra kind to accommodate us each with separate checks, which is wonderful and saved us all from having to haggle over who owes what, and is the tip big enough.
Great little place, with smooth service, delightful plates. A pleasant mix of Mexican and American breakfast fare. Solid prices, too. I'll check the place out again, for sure!
Small, cozy place with brunch fare. Weekend daily specials board packed with so many choices you can't read the list from across the room because the print is too small. Two friends and I enjoyed a Sun breakfast there. I had a traditional eggs & bacon plate and was pleased to find real potatoes and crispy bacon. One friend enjoyed a mushroom & spinach omlette that was light, fluffy, and fresh. The other friend enjoyed two blueberry pancakes with so many sweet blueberries the usual pancake dressings of syrup and butter were optional. Marti's has two rooms; they clearly started in one space and expanded next door. Decor is local California. Single, but spacious, tidy, and tiled restroom.
First time at Marti’s. Mom and pop breakfast eatery. Offers various American breakfast entree as well as Mexican entree. Overall the food was delicious except that the home potatoes could be better - some potatoes were on the hard end so probably need to cook a little more. But it was flavorful, lightly crispy on the outside and not overly oily. I like the atmosphere since it wasn’t too loud and without any screens, it was great for kids compared to other breakfast locations on the island where it tends to be too loud, and without any screens all around.
It was good! The service was amazing, super fast and attentive staff. Very cozy place. The price and portions are good. But, the food looked better than it tasted. I got the Marti’s special omelet with potatoes. It was ok. The coffee was not strong and tasted instant made. I wish you could customize your own omelet, it would be great!
Marti's is pretty consistently Marti's. Cute little neighborhood place. The decor looks like the fun knick knacks around your favorite aunt's house, and the dishes and food are the same. If you want mind-blowing amazing food or the latest trends, go elsewhere. If you want consistent comfort food and atmosphere, you've found your place.
If you want authentic Swedish pancakes, Marti's is the place. Served as they should be: rolled, buttered, sprinkled with powdered sugar, and a side of lingonberry sauce. The coffee is nothing to shout about, but you won't care about that when you taste those Swedish pancakes. Cash only (ATM on premises).

The staff was really friendly. It is a quaint little restaurant. As for price, quality and quantity I would say not well balanced. Also, they do not take cards, cash only. I know they are a mom and pop establishment but we rarely pay cash. Thank goodness we had some on hand.
Local mom and pop breakfast place,it's much older and even the decor and setting is of older style. Food taste was decent....The pancake however was soaked with too much butter, the potatoes were little burnt. It's a old school breakfast hub. Not bad. Parking is hard to find especially on busy days
Don't fall in to the reviews saying this place is good. It's not. Maybe it's because I went there on a Thursday but the place was horribly dead. The water served to us had the taste of stale ice so that was out of the question. The "Mexican omelette" special for $15 was Fritos chips, tube squeezed "guacamole" and way too much sour cream making the inside of the omelette a veritable mess of smush. I cannot imagine why other people would give this place 4 or 5 stars when there are so many better options within walking distance.
I came here with my wife and she had chorizo con huevos which was quite bad. The chorizo tasted like old pork and smelled like it was going bad. Additionally, it was not cooked fully. It came with beans that were canned and two small tortillas that black coal from the grill. I got martis special and the taste was decent but it was a very small portion and they only gave me 1.5 pieces of toast which was odd. We asked for salsa and were given salsa that tasted like canned salsa ,(terrible flavor, salty and not spicy) as other reviews have mentioned they seem to have an issue providing fresh food and have presented old spoiled food to customers as in the case of the chorizo we received so I would not return or recommend.
Absolutely horrendous food honestly, I try to be open minded but the eggs were probably whisked with water or something. Very bad flavor all around and there were pieces of charcoal on my potatoes, which made it taste horrible. I never got any refills on my water even though it sat empty for 25 minutes, and my wife never got her coffee refilled until I asked. Bad experience and won't recommend or come back.
Well, the scramble was good. Unfortunately serving my partner and I super dry seemingly day old, burned potatoes with lots of bits of charcoal might seem innapropriate elsewhere, but here is just fine . I WISH this was an exaggeration. Oh and if you are vegetarian, forget it. No substitutions or decent options for non meat eaters. Swap bacon for cheaper spinach instead? $4.00 extra. Cheese cake was SO dry and hard two of us tried it and sent it to the garbage. I don't know why this town gives high ratings for everything, but burned day old potatoes does not say to me that you as a business care for repeat customers. Take the money and run. 1 coffee that was never refilled, 1 slice of cement cake, 1 ham and cheese omelet and one scramble, both with papas a carbón de ayer. My vote is $41.00 gets you much more elsewhere and they might actually care about what they are serving a customer. For breakfast in this country if you just keep the coffee full, have fresh food and don't burn it you are 90% there. Nice space but a resounding "What's the point!" For Marti's. PS Maybe I sound offended for my loved one and I being shuffled through and served what we were, but that would be a very accurate reading. After all, you are what you eat. That understanding has to be respected.
I’m concerned about the quality of the food here. They served us molded raspberries and Burnt pancakes. The waitress apologized, removed the waffle with berries from our bill, and gave us a 10% discount. However, the raspberries are obviously molded yet they still served it to my 4-year-old son with the molded part buried inside the whipped cream making it hard to see. If I did not check it, he could have eaten all of it. Or if they served it to people with bad eyesight they would have eaten it too. The other berries are not fresh either.

Other reviews are partially correct. They do give you a lot of food. Unfortunately the food was awful. Everything just tastes cheap and old. Even the coffee. Pros: Nice staff. Very helpful and friendly. This place could clean up if they cut portion sizes and increased quality and freshness. Unfortunately I don't see that happening. :-(
I called for a togo pickup order and saw my food ready on the counter while multiple staff said someone would be with me. Literally 10 minutes later I was rung up by the control person. Won't do that again.
We got here and sat down as instructed. Got our menus and ordered hot chocolate and our Marti’s scrambles and an extra waffle. Another party came in and sat down - they were loud as hell. That room is an echo chamber so if others are not using their inside voice, you’ll have to shout to be heard across the table. Dude was throwing around his weight. Their entire order came out and we were still waiting for our food. At least they remembered our drinks. The other party was almost done with their food. No one checked in on us. So we finally went to go ask where our food was (had to get up and go to the other room to the counter). Turns out they completely forgot our order. We paid for our hot chocolate and left, hungry and angry. Ended up going to Jim’s instead. I understand forgetting. But weren’t they wondering why we weren’t eating? Why we hadn’t ordered? Servers were constantly coming to the room but not one of them even bothered to check in. It wasn’t even busy for a Sunday, the place was barely half full. Once they realized we had been forgotten, they didn’t even bother to apologize. Yeah. I had been here a few times before and the food is just okay. Mediocre. Never coming back because the service sucks.
