Ole's Waffle Shop offers hearty meals served by friendly staff in a very comfortable setting. Prices are very affordable and there is parking out front on the street. This is a very nostalgic place and I really enjoyed my meal.
I enjoyed it. Service was decent. Was it worth waiting in line outside ? Thats up to you. Breakfast was good, especially the waffles. The fried chicken I wasn’t too impressed. Cooked well but lacked flavor. I will go again.
Great place for breakfast! Place was clean and well put together in the kitchen. Waitress was very friendly..coffee was hot and strong. Biscuits were out of bounds good. Fluffy and a well put together mix. I enjoyed them very much. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys breakfast.
Hands down the best breakfast place I’ve ever been to. The food was so good I almost cried. I wanted to marry every chef in the kitchen that day. Every aspect of all of our meals were delicious, from the big chewy pancakes and crisp waffles to the fresh squeezed orange juice to the coffee, which I may have had one too many refills of. The service was attentive and welcoming, it felt homey and I will definitely be coming back in the near future :)
Great local spot for old skool diner vibes. Yummy American breakfast and diner fare. I enjoy their fried chicken and waffles the most, though their sandwiches are usually winners. The staff are always friendly and efficient. There's almost always a line for brunch and lunch, but you can get the same food with no wait if you go at dinner time.
This is one of the original waffle houses in the United States and it lives up to the hype! There is always a little bit of a line, but it’s well worth the 20 minute wait to get your seat. It’s still set up like the old 1920s diner, nothing much has changed there, and they’re delicious waffles and breakfast the test of time. Slightly pricey, but it’s California. However, if you want, probably the best waffle in United States, it’s well worth it! 10 out of 10!
A blast from the past! I got a chance to try out Ole’s Waffle Shop, a classic diner that has been opened for almost 100 years, using the classic same batter recipe since 1927. I got there at 6:30AM on Christmas Eve and they had were half packed, which is super impressive. Because the sun hasn’t risen yet, the outside of the diner lit up and it was such a cool sight to see. And they also decorated for the holidays so that was lovely as well. Walked in and was immediately greeted, offering us to sit at any table. We went for an open booth, asked if we wanted coffee and gave us a menu to look over the items. Coffee arrived quickly within a minute and lowkey was giving old school diner vibes that you see in tv shows (I’ve never been to one so this was a cool experience). I’m clearly easily amused haha… Coffee was solid. The orange juice was so fresh and I saw there was a pretty large juicer near the front of the bar seats. We ordered the Waffle Combo - I got it with a sunnyside up and bacons, and my friend got the scrambled eggs with sausage patty. The meal itself was super solid and really tasty! I generally don’t enjoy breakfast foods but this was pretty good. Service was fast, friendly, and good - curious how it is when it’s super packed. The vibe of the shop is giving 1900s for sure. The food is solid, and the price is as good as it gets in this economy. Overall, glad I tried this place out, knowing that a 100 year old diner still exists and is in the bay and is part of Alameda history. I’d definitely go again! Solid experience :)
Visited this spot on a weekend and left genuinely impressed. Even though it was quite busy, the team kept everything running smoothly, so getting seated didn’t take long and the experience felt comfortable from the very start. The atmosphere inside is warm and welcoming — cozy, relaxed, with a nice mix of classic details and an open kitchen where you can watch the cooks at work. The menu offers a great variety. Portions are generous, and every dish feels well-balanced and thoughtfully prepared. The pancakes were especially delightful — light, fluffy, and very satisfying. The omelette was excellent too: soft, flavorful, and served with tasty sides. The breakfast combos seem well put together and definitely worth trying. The coffee complements the meal nicely as well. Service was quick and friendly — the staff moves fast but still makes sure guests feel taken care of. The place works well for both small groups and couples. If you’re looking for a hearty, delicious breakfast in a cozy setting, I highly recommend stopping by — it’s easy to see why it’s so popular.
This is a great place to catch Breakfast or Brunch. Some people might call it a hole in the wall, I would call it Nostalgic. Reminded me of Diners I visited in my younger years. Atmosphere was very comfortable. Food was good and portions were quite filling, and I WAS hungry !! I had no wait to be seated but it was busy. Preparing the food was quick and prices are reasonable. While I was just visiting, my daughter is a regular here. There is mention of parking issues, but ANY city will have that. I must have been lucky, finding a spot close and quick.
My Mom was in town visiting for the weekend. We went on a brief hike before breakfast and sat at the counter rather than a booth which was an interesting and nostalgic experience as we imagined who sat in the same spot over the years. I had the french toast and hot chocolate which were both fantastic. The food prices are reasonable with nice sized portions. I will definitely return and recommend to others looking for a historic dining experience.
Good food. Excellent pancakes and waffles. Their eggs are fresh and hash browns cooked perfectly. Great house coffee! Fresh pressed OJ! Be prepared to wait outside, they fill fast. If dining alone or with a party of 2 you might get lucky to grab a counter “bar” stool right away. Parking is street and it’s crowded.
Let's start with, I was surprised that we had to wait in line outside. However, one thing I know is that great food will always have a line. We waited in line for all of 10 minutes or less talking to a random guy who gave us pointers on the food. I love hearing other people's opinions because 9/10 I don't eat the same foods on the menu. The service and atmosphere were ok. It was to be expected from what I like to call a hole in the wall restaurant, which BTW I love hole in the walls 🥰 so no disrespect intended. Our server was really nice. She was just stretched thin. We went on Sunday, January 19th (a holiday weekend), so everyone was there. I even ran into family from out of town. So you know the food was good 😋 I give Oles a 10/10 their food was AMAZING with nice portions and a variety of food options. I couldn't believe that they had grits and they were nice and creamy 🤗 one of my favorites. We will definitely be returning often. Either every weekend or every other weekend for breakfast. Thank you to all of the staff at Oles. We appreciate you.

Came here on a Sunday late morning. All street parking so took awhile to find a spot. Waited about thirty minutes in line for five people. There is two sections of this place but it's super busy so there was a wait outside. This place has been here since I was in grade school. Nothing has been upgraded. Felt homie though. Old fashion seats. They have some bar seats to see the action in the kitchen. Friendly and helpful staff but always on the go. Prices are decent. Had their fluffy pancakes combo and asked for extra crispy bacon. Loved their bacon as it was good thick size. Their ultimate omelette eggs was pretty good, too and comes with a side of hash and toast. Their Benedict was decent. Their coffee was ok but not strong. Their waffle was a little disappointing as it was pretty thin but good enough. Had some sides too but I would stick to combos! Food was good and good size portions. I would come back here again if they were not so busy. Definitely get the pancake combo and omelettes. You won't be disappointed.
Solid diner experience! Huge American portions and they served fresh strawberries on the pancakes. Definitely shareable size-wise. The pancakes were “classic” diner quality and the coffee was hot. Coffee and water refills came about every hour (and going to a diner is largely about large amounts of coffee), but they were busy!
Came here for the first time. They asked me if I wanted to be seated next to a large party and I agreed. Because of that the service was a little slow but the server was very polite. The food was delicious. I had the corned beef special. The portions were very generous. The corned beef was a little bit sweeter than what I was expecting but the rest of the meal was great. I would definitely would like to come back again.
I’ve been looking around waffle houses in the Bay Area. Not really since the Bay Area doesn’t really have any but this restaurant is the closest one I can ever find. It’s located at the streets in Downtown Alameda. I see that the waffles look different compared to most I see in restaurants. They are quite thin makes the portion smaller than the average. I see that the pancakes are much larger than it. Kinda doesn’t really add up when they’re about the same price. Anyways, the food is not that bad though. I also was expecting the waffles to somehow taste different, but it’s alright. I probably should go back again and order pancakes or other items.

Consider this review a 3.5, rounded down. Found this place through social media and decided to try it out. Brought the boyfriend here for an early Valentine's day breakfast (his favorite type of food) and grabbed the last parking spot in front of the restaurant at 6:45am. He had the French toast combo while I asked about the chicken and waffles. Coffee for both of us, which was good and overflowing, waters delivered to the table shortly after we sat down. The French toast was good, and so was my waffle. I would actually say that the waffle was the best part of the meal, which was made all the more apparent after trying the friend chicken that I got with it. For the fried chicken portion, you get to chose what part of the chicken you get, even tenders if you want. I got a thigh and wing, and regretted chosing the chicken at all. I am generally sensitive to salt, but I had to add some to my order, as, agreeing with another reviewer, there was no flavor whatsoever despite being cooked well. I drove in from San Francisco to try this place since it has been hyped as such an old establishment, and I'm always looking for reasons to visit Alameda, but this was not worth crossing the bridge for me. While I'm willing to come back to try it again only if I'm already on this side of the bridge, I can heartily suggest the waffles, but advise to steer clear of friend chicken (maybe my order was a fluke, as our waitress reported she enjoyed the chicken). The service was top notch, and the ambiance is very classic diner feeling, with various updated vintage touches here and there. I can understand why locals would like to come here, and it's fun to watch the juicer make OJ while waiting for your food, or hear community coming together as regulars recognize each other or the wait staff. The waffles are definitely delicious, and the French toast gets the job done well, so I think the pricing is fair. I don't know if I would wait in line for food here now that I've been able to try it once without a wait, but if you enjoy morning diner coffee and classic breakfast, I can see this one being a good option if there's no wait.
I really want to like this place, this seems to be a theme lately. I also order my breakfast early in the morning. I ordered the country fried steak... The meat and breading was okay, but the gravy was a cream of mushroom from a can, not a country gravy at all. O'Brian potatoes had no crunch. Strawberry's with the waffle came unwashed, with the greens still attached to the cut pieces. I feel the quality is deteriorating, and that is unfortunate Alameda need a quality breakfast. Let's just say Gordon Ramsay would have a lot of curse words for the cooks at this place.
I have heard some really amazing things about this place! So I gave it a try. I called ahead and picked up my order. Service was brief but the ladies were polite. The place was packed pretty snuggly with a mixed crowd. Everyone seemed happy and looked to be enjoying their food and services. I order biscuits & gravy with sausage. Sausage was overcooked, but still tasted good. B&G: Gravy was bland, biscuits were really dense and flavorless. For the ($25) I spent, I expected much better. It may have just been a busy morning, so I do intend to try again another time. I'll update my review when I make it back there.
I’m not sure what the hype is for this place , went here today and asked for biscuits and gravy and they were the sloppiest I’ve ever seen , tasteless gravy and super dry biscuits they seemed old . French toast was not it either ,only thing that was good was the coffee and Chicken and bacon 🥓 , they really need to elevate the cooking in the back , wouldn’t go back if I can just make this food at home and 10x better . Also the wine place they sat us down was nice and all but tables for 2 are tiny …
