This is my new favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. The restaurant is far from new, however, that doesn't make it any less exciting. Every single dish is exceptionally flavorful and the staff are all incredibly friendly, going out of their way to make you feel at home as long as you have the time to be nice to them as well. Every time I came here I asked a lot of questions about the food, and they were really excited to tell me everything I wanted to know. I particularly recommend the larb and the jackfruit but seriously, anything here is going to be incredible.
this little hole in the wall restaurant is such a gem! the food is so authentic and home-cooked for very good prices! staff is friendly and helpful. there is limited parking. overall, 5/5 stars! pictured are khao soi gai (bottom) and rad nar pork (top)
My friend and I are visitor from NYC. We were on a vacation trip in LA. Even we already ate, and we were supposed to meet her bf at another restaurant, on the way there, she saw the sign of Northern Thai food and she wanted to stop by to get some food to take home. The place is in a small valley but still have parking spaces. My friend got couple local northern Thai food orders because it remind her of where she was from which was also Chingari (one of the northern provinces in Thailand. Her bf ended up picking us up here because she has to wait for her order to finish. Outside also has some authentic Thai vegetable selling and I wish I can bring them to New York, but I couldn't because our trip still have long way to go and vegetable might be going bad. Anyway, were so jealous of Thais who live in CA now that they have more stuff we can find in NYC.
One of my favorite small but cozy Thai restaurants. Menu features items not as common in other restaurants. Personal standouts include both their southern and northern style sausage, pork and beef jerky (some of the best) and homey rice porridge. Service is also prompt, and one of the few places where they pack your leftovers.
Amazingly authentic Thai food. The khoa soi is exquisite and tastes just like it does in Thailand. And obviously the pad Thai was amazing as well. Kind and quick service. Clean and quiet restaurant space. And reasonable prices to boot!
BLUF: if you enjoy northern Thai food and happen to live or be visiting Hollywood, I found a place for you to try. It is very authentic. I had the khao soi. This is a dish unique to northern Thailand. I had it in Chiang Mai for the first time. This bowl took me back to that first experience. This restaurant is in Thai town, right off west sunset blvd. if you enjoy Thai food, this is a great spot. I also had Thai tea, of course. Can’t go to a Thai restaurant without getting Thai tea. It was delicious, man aroi (มันอร่อย).
When was the last time you ate at a place where every dish was so distinct in flavor, an explosion of spices and texture? This place is so, so good. We will come back to eat everything on their menu. Spicy is Thai-level spicy, so check yourself before you wreck yourself. Get lots of sticky rice and a side of jasmine rice to carry all that flavor 🤩 their som dum thai is the perfect lift, providing a burst of acid and palate cleansing crispness for the stews/sauces/curries. Dishes all under $10, good for eating in or taking out.
Very good! We dined inside and had the papaya salad and curry noodle, Thai tea and grass jelly. Inside is small and no frills but besides the point. I would recommend this place STOP using plastic, forks, plates and bowls / it’s wasteful, bad for the environment, bad for us (micro plastics in food) and takes away from the dine in experience. But otherwise food was very good as was the service!
I downed a khao soi gai after a little hike at Griffith. I don’t make it out into this area of LA very often so this was the only placed I had saved (recommended by a friend). The chicken was fall-off-bone tender and clung onto the coconut curry super well. The type of noodles weren’t my personal favorite but I definitely know people who like the egg noodle texture. The fried noodles they give you in the bag are SO delicious in the soup!! You will not regret trying it and the price point is pretty solid too!!
Such a little hidden gem, the most authentic northern Thai food. The service was extremely fast. Some of the food is served in plastic containers and all the utensils are plastic but it gives it a very street food feel. Also a little market outside selling vegetables, and miscellaneous food stuff.
I grew up in a Thai household and the food here is very much authentic! The Thai northern sausage “sai oua” (ไส้อั่ว) is made fresh and is soooo delicious! 🤤 It is difficult to find a Thai restaurant that makes this dish fresh, not frozen. The atmosphere is very humble and the restaurant space is small, but I don’t mind at all. They have a lot of choices for takeout food.
Literally the best Thai food I ever had. Every time I eat from here it’s always amazing and consistent. Can’t recommend it enough!
I finally visited this restaurant and am glad I did it. I ordered to go, 1 pork curry and 1 jackfruit (vegan), and $10.99 each enough serving for 2 people. As soon as I got home, I ate it over white rice. The pork curry was an explosion of flavors. The meat melts in your mouth. While the jackfruit was sweet, tangy, and spicy, perfect pair to my pork curry. I now have a new favorite Thai restaurant. Go ahead and give them a try. You'll be hooked!
The Khao Soi was a nice mixture of creamy and acidic. The chunks of beef inside were super tender, that was a delightful surprise. The larb moo kua was spicy but super flavorful. Good assortment of chopped pork meats (including innards like pork stomach). Authentic flavors and good service. Would recommend
Owners were so friendly. The kang ho dish was so deeply flavorful ... kinda everything I’m looking for in a dish! The larb was freshly made, and also juicier and a different taste than what I usually have had elsewhere. The sausage was good, but I’m looking forward to going back to try the tamarind soups, khao sois, tomato curries and more!!! Go support, order a ton and some to go, and tip well! Thank me later!
Wow. This place is home like resto. Food great. Feels very home made and delicious. Owner ONUSA is the sweetest person I've met. I'm so glad I had the chance to meet owner. Try this place out, you'll want to come back and try other items.. 10 🌟
Sawasdee" (สวัสดี),: khrap (male speaker) or kha (female speaker) This was an unexpected surprise! An unassuming, quaint, sweet space, without all of the pomp and circumstance and delivers not just flavor but the sincere kindness Thai people are known for. The pad Thai (smelled so yummy I forgot to take a photo) was deliciously prepared. Tangy, sweet, satisfying, and piping hot. A must try if you’re in the area! I look forward to trying other items on their menu soon and so should you! 🙌 🙏💜
AMAZING ! We ordered Khao Soi and Gaeng Hang Lae and Pad See Ew … with sticky rice of course !!! 10000/10 super authentic, flavorful, filling, comforting . Very cozy restaurant with high quality affordable Thai food. The only Thai place I’ll be going from now own when I visit LA. If you’re ever in the area it’s worth a try! And if you’re not… it’s worth the drive ! Thank you Amphai for having us tonight !! Only got one pic of our food because we dived right in!!
This is one of my go-to spots for Thai food. The food and service are excellent. I recommend ordering the food for take-out as the space is small and crowded because it is a popular place. There hasn't been any outdoor seating when I've been there. As for parking, the plaza's lot is small, but I've always found a parking spot. Maybe I've been lucky.
Great authentic northern thai food. I believe the owner is from Chiang Mai too. Came on a Friday morning and got seated right away. Service is fast and you get your food shortly after ordering. The khao soi tasted amazing and components were similar to thailand's. It had a kick of spice already so the extra spice wasnt needed. One thing i like about this restaurant was that a bowl of khao soi only costed $11 when other places charge around $15-$17. The only downside here is the parking. Small parking lot in a plaza. I got lucky and snagged a spot but on other days might have to look for street parking.
Located in a strip mall next to a smoke shops is this small non-descript Thai restaurant. Don’t be fooled by looks, because the food slaps. It also has a small lot, so epic win. Full-disclosure I have not eaten inside and have only come in for take out, and usually when I’m not feeling well. What have I gotten? Their shrimp and rice porridge! It’s an amazing soup. Rice, spices, cilantro and a clean crisp broth. The broth is almost clear, but carries such a complex flavor. I think I taste garlic? The shrimp is plentiful, plump, and bouncy. It comes with two types of vinegar to further enhance the amazing flavor. If you’re feeling ill, I definitely suggest this!
I love the food. It's incredible. You should definitely try it. I used to order takeout from here through Doordash all the time. They're fast and offer good value. Five stars for all that. The dine-in experience is quaint. All the staff are kind and considerate. They're open till 2am. Go!
It’s a very small mom n pop shop that i found randomly when i was craving khao soi. ( free front parking). Only a few small tables inside so is a more suitable for takeout orders typa place but we got a table to dine in. The taste n service did not disappointed like other reviewers said, might have been one of the best I’ve ever received ngl. Food came out v quick and they open super late so that’s great. We ordered: - Chicken Khao Soi ($14): ultra flavourful creamy n filling, chicken was so tender the meat fell of the leg bone. One of the damn best thing to get here, so good that i bought another to go after! 😆😆 - Gang Kae Gai ($14): chicken sweet and soud soup w veggie. INSANELY SPICY we were sweating while eating it. It was very delish but it is so not for the faint of heart 😭😭 Bill came out to 46$ for 3 meals which is pretty good. Cheaper than other thai places usually. Service is awesome, the lady ( think her name is Panna?) refilled our water constantly and eventually just gave us 2 cups of thai tea FOR FREE probs to calm us down from constant water drinking lol😭😭 very appreciate it. Top tier food, even “topper” tier service 🙌👍👍👍
Very lovely little store, the owner lady is so nice, makes me feel like home. And the food is absolutely delicious, I can tell many Thai people visit there.
Excellent authentic Thai food!!!! Super friendly staff or owners I had Pan fried minced pork, liver pork, pork skin and fresh mint leaves in northern spices. I did not need to add any more spice. It was perfect!!! Open until 2am to boot!!
Really loved this beautiful little gem! Delicious sausage, khao soi and larb. An even better experience from the sweet owners who took amazing care of us! Our glasses stayed full and they were engaging and so sweet! Truly heart warming experience coming in, you feel like family! Would definitely order the sausage again ASAP that was out of this world!
The food is authentically Thai. I personally love their made in-house sai oua and the khao soi. Also, the service is good, and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant space is small and humble, and reminds me of Thailand. This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Los Angeles!
This is the ultimate Mom &Pop place for Norhtern Thai foods. Whenever we are in the area, this is the place to stop for excellent Thai food and at a very reasonable price. The complexity of all the flavors are to savor on. They mean business when it comes to to how spiciness. Even with the medium spicy, I was sweating. The popular dishes like Kao soi, papaya Salad, jackfruit salad and crying Tiger are a must try. They rearranged the area a bit so there are more seatings. Even greater now that they are opened until 2AM for us vampires roaming the Hollywood area. The ladies are great as getting what you need. Very quaint little place but packed with excellent foods and services.
So delicious and the absolute kindest service! 10/10 Their menu is very unique. Can’t wait to try everything!
Amazing amazing restaurant, my girlfriend and I had a stellar meal. We had the khao soi, sai ua, sour pork sausage, pork salad, and jackfruit salad. The sai ua was superb, I’d say my favorite I’ve ever had. Just so well textured and loaded with aromatics that made it truly delicious and addictive. The pork salad was also exceptional, very well seasoned and spiced. Khao Soi was delicious too, I highly recommend this restaurant.
Recommended to me by most locals, I knew as a traveler I had to pop by and see what all the hype was about. And let me tell you? The praise is not only rightfully deserved, but also doesn’t Amphai a service. The food exceeded the praise in the best of ways, filling and fulfilling in every way.
thai food here is so authentic and i love them. my favorite was #1 - it’s so good. pad thai here is good as well. for appetizers and sharables, i’d recommend crispy pork belly and green mango salad. the restaurant is a little small tho.
Best place to have northern Thai food in CA. We tried most of every menu they have and found that the test is very authentic. Our favorite dishes are the northern sausage and the chili pastes menu. Services also really great for the small restaurant. The server she always asks how much spices you want and recommends dishes for you.
We tried the Kao soi chicken and beef. We shared the Pad see ew and fried rice. The food was great and very affordable, my favorite was the Pad see ew. The parking lot might be the problem since the parking are is very limited.
very delicious Thai food ! We ordered the curry beef noodle , pad see & TomYam gung, everything is super tasty !
Amphai has the best Northern Thai food I’ve had (and I’m originally from Thailand)! Every time I’m in LA, I have to stop by, and this is my third time already. The food is fresh and totally authentic, the service is super friendly, and the prices are great. Their Nam Prick Num, Sai Oua, Khao Soi, Kang Aom Moo were 💯💯💯 Definitely a hidden gem in LA!
We had travelled LA for 4 days and came here for 3 dinners continuously, we also ordered to-go dishes for breakfast. Foods were a little bit spicy but really delicious! We love the deep fried pork belly most! We always order a combination of 1 dish of sour salad, 1 main dish with meat, and 1 bowl of porridge or noodle. That was perfect for two people in both quantity and flavor. Additionally, the owner was super friendly, and price was fair.
It's rare for me to find authentic food that truly captures the taste of its origin. After years of craving the flavors of home, this place has earned a special place in my heart. Their Gang Hang Lae (Northern Pork Curry) is a must-try if you love perfectly stewed pork with curry powder and ginger. Don't miss the Sai Oua (Northern Spicy Pork Sausage) with sticky rice either. The combination of herbs and spices in the sausage with the hot sticky rice is a match made in heaven. Next time you're craving Northern Thai food, this is the only place you should consider.

We tried so many delicious dishes. I am not positive what everything was but it was super tasty, tons of flavor and the most authentic Thai I have had since returning from Thailand. The curries were good. The papaya salad was legit. I felt like I was at someone's house eating homemade food. Lots of people stopped by to pick up. Everyone new each other. Great little spot!!
Came to know about this place thanks to Mark Weins (Thai-food YouTuber). The Khao Soi spiciness is definitely adjusted for the American palette but the flavors are just as good as in Chiang Mai. The Nam Prik Ong was okay - the flavor changes from restaurant to restaurant even in Thailand. I was a bit underwhelmed by the lack of assorted veggies that came out (especially when compared with the photo). Mine sadly only came with some cabbage and cucumber. That said, it's probably as authentic you can get especially for the price.
Los Angeles Times selected this hole in the wall as top 101 restaurants back few years ago.. yelp average rating is 4.7… can this truly a hole in the wall Thai restaurant really this good? Hasn’t been here for few years so it is time to give it a try again… with seats fewer than 20, this is truly a hole in the wall .. similar to many restaurants in Thailand.. we had 2 of their most popular soup .. curry chicken which I love and my wife chose the tomato soup with pork… and of course, tiger signature dish-spicy sausage.. very delicious taste with lemon grass..
I’ll be honest—I’m not a big fan of Thai food in general. But my Thai friends brought me here and they love it, saying, “It’s legit.” So that definitely says something. If you’re not Thai or not used to authentic Thai flavors, be aware that some dishes can be very spicy. Personally, I didn’t find the food all that exciting, but I also haven’t visited that many Thai places, so I won’t pretend to be an expert. If you already enjoy Thai cuisine, this might be a great spot for you. But if you’re trying it for the first time and prefer a more traditional, sit-down vibe (instead of plastic forks and a casual setup), this place might not be your jam.
I heard about this place through the Munchies YouTube series by Vice and decided I had to check it out, and it was def worth it since there are so few places in California, if not the US that serve up Northern Thai food. I got a chicken Khao Soi, a signature dish, and it was great! Succulent chicken drumsticks in a savory and creamy curry. Had fun in this small yet homey restaurant.

I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while based on other reviews. I am not Thai but have been to Thailand a handful of times and love eating Thai food. I see the appeal of this mom and pop authentic northern Thai restaurant but unfortunately the food i ordered was just okay and i probably would go somewhere else next time. Ordered the chicken Khao soi, crying tiger, morning glory and fried rice. Khao soi was good- Not the best I ever had but very solid w a lot of good complex flavors. The morning glory and fried rice were just okay. Crying tiger special was not for me. Usually I love this dish but I could only eat a piece or 2 of the steak it just was disappointing in texture and flavor. I love the cozy atmosphere and kind service and wish I enjoyed the food more. Maybe I ordered the wrong things. Idk. Come see for yourself
Decent Thai food, zero ambiance, limited seating. Located in a strip mall with limited parking. Found food to be ok, very authentic but unlikely to please everyone. Service friendly and helpful. The interior offers a few seats and little else on offer. Not quite sure about the 5 star ratings people are giving.
