I saw the reviews of this place and thought it might be hype. For the record, I also rarely give 5 stars. This place was truly a surprise. The facade of the restaurant appears dated, but it opens up to a gorgeous backyard patio. Their brunch menu was excellent and I can highly recommend the Chilaquiles (comes with a delicious salsa and guac) and Cinnamon French Toast! Everything was flavorful right down to the fruit it was topped with.
I really enjoyed the covered patio dining experience. Some indoor places have such bad acoustics that it's difficult to carry on a conversation. Sam’s patio dining is the notable exception. Great atmosphere!
Sam's is my go-to brunch spot :) i usually stick to classic breakfast stuff but everything looks good. I love the coffee bar and all the nooks and crannies. the main reason i keep coming back is the open garden vibe! sometimes butterflies flutter around, and there are lots of plants and trees that are homey and well maintained.
Adorable!!! How I didn't know this existed is beyond me! My friend was in town from Tokyo pre-Folsom festival and we were looking for a lil breakfast, before driving to Pt. Reyes. Did a lil search and this spot looked cute as a button. Rustic with a lil outdoor garden area to sit. I saw a stage, so I assume there is live music sometimes. Anyways....food was great. I had grits and eggs...lovely. For my taste, it just needed a dash of hot sauce; but I always need a dash of hot sauce for cheese grits. I finished my plate in record time because I was famished. My friend got the Reuben (I know ...for breakfast?), but he said it was delicious and filling. Fresh squeezed OJ was excellent and pulpy and the folks working were very kind indeed. I definitely plan to go back to try their collards because they sounded like they'd be a lil bit of heaven. Specials board was interesting as well.
Nice place to get brunch. Seating is all outside, but a lot of it is covered so you can mostly get shade. Menu is not huge, but has good variety, with some good Mexican style options. Main downside is we tend to eat brunch on the later side and they're usually out of scones by then, and if you can get the scones (varying flavors) you definitely want them.
It had been close to 10 years since I'd been to the log cabin. To start, I think that their bacon got even better. Proportions were more than adequate and exceptionally flavorful. Seeing as this dad covers the meals, I was pleasantly surprised (in a positive way) with the final tab and that they do not charge a fee for tables with more than 4 guests. That made it so much easier to tip in the upper 20% range. Will return soon. Thanks
Amazing food, service and location. A wonderful place to get breakfast (6 people max). Make sure to wait out front after you put your name down. I recommend spending the time waiting out front to look over the menu. Hosts and servers are very kind and helpful. Food is really amazing, the French toast is quite scrumptious.
I stopped going here ages ago because of the long waits for very minimal seating. Little did I know, they have closed the indoor seating and opened up their beautiful patio, equipped with heating lamps. No reservations over the phone but they nicely update you how the long the current waitlist is. We waited about fifteen minutes before being seated. To keep a good rotation of patrons, they are well staffed, ready to take your order. Nice little menu, marked with dietary restrictions. I ordered the seasonal veggie sandwich (perfect for the vegans) and she ordered the daily pancakes and orange juice. For lactose intolerant they have oat or soy milk. Food came quickly and it was perfectly delicious. Great customer service, wonderful ambiance, street only parking. Bathroom indoors where their old dining was.
Cute brunch restaurant with outdoor seating and a homey atmosphere. Feels like I’m sitting in someone’s backyard! Outdoor only and super dog friendly, with heaters and patio umbrellas as well. Arrived at around 10:50 on a Sunday morning with many people already in line but only had to wait about 15min for a table. Tasty food and friendly staff! For sure becoming one of our usual spots 😊
We had a lovely breakfast here! The servers were very friendly, the decor was beautiful (and fun!), and the atmosphere welcoming. The raspberry almond pancakes, which they made into a smiley face for the kid, were delicious and 2 was way more than the kid could eat! The hot chocolate was piled with whipped cream. We had biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs, which were tasty and filling. The daily special scramble was also good. The mochas were served in jar style mugs. We appreciated the outdoor heating in the early morning chill.
Welcoming spot for breakfast and lunch. Lovely outdoor patio, food is great with good coffee! Have had a few items on the menu including daily scramble, corned beef hash, fried chicken sandwich and all were tasty. Service can be a bit slow at times but overall it is a great spot to enjoy a meal
I had been wanting to try this place for a while and finally go to today. There was good and bad. Went for breakfast and was super disappointed in the coffee — this is a big deal for me and going out for breakfast! I also didn't love that I had to get my own water and coffee. Just not my preference. I had a buttermilk pancake which was not especially good. I liked the outdoor seating area, but overall, I don't intend to go back.
What we had that was good was really good (Cornmeal pancakes were delicious and the French toast was great too) but what wasn’t was really disappointing and that could have easily been avoided. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy and I can only assume that they had run out of biscuits, as what he got was gravy over a hamburger bun. We would have been completely understanding if our server had let us know they were going to substitute the biscuit out, although we definitely would have chosen to order something else, but no one ever mentioned to us that there would be no biscuit in the biscuits and gravy. There were a couple other pretty obvious substitutions made to our orders, which we were also not told about before the food arrived. I just wish someone had told us up front about the changes that would be made, as we really wanted to like eating here.
From the skepticism of the host, questioning me about whether all my party was there (my husbsnd had to walk slowly), to the mediocre food, to the spotty service, where you must continually request things that should be provided and where you have to get up to get water and coffee from a communal table, yet they want a 20% tip, this place is completely worth passing by. The only good thing was the excellent, though overpriced orange juice.
It’s a very cute place, but it felt like many of the positive reviews are driven more by nostalgia than the actual experience. The food was mediocre at best. I was especially disappointed with the chilaquiles and ended up ordering a second dish because of it. Unfortunately, the service was lacking a lot as well, we were never checked on, and we had to work hard just to get someone’s attention to ask for the bill. I would definitely not come back here
They have the outside porch ambience doing a lot for them, so much so that they really don't care about the taste of their food. We ordered the chilaquiles and mac and cheese, both were just so bad, it spoilt our mood and started the day off so bad. I mean it is one thing to make a dish american-style and call it something else but its another to completely ruin it such that the customers feel cheated ordering it. Soggy tortilla chips covered in this super sweet ketchup-y sauce that even looks so bad, and tasteless mac and cheese is what we paid for. A friend got the fried chicken sandwich which was the only decent thing on the table.
The Good the bad the ugly Good: Atmosphere - cute, rustic outdoor area. Bad: service was very non welcoming to first timers. We almost felt guilty asking for anything and were heavily redirected to go walk and get your own. No available inside seating because staff has taken over the dining room as their closet rack and staging area. Which you will have to pass through if you need the restrooms. Ugly: Food was not good. Terrible bacon. Grits.. an abomination. Bad Mac and cheese. This spot should have a classic American vibe you should feel like you have escaped the hustle and hustle and are getting superb food and service. However it was the opposite. Surrounded by dogs everywhere it felt more like a dog park with a good truck on the back and tables. It has now become a joke for us when breakfast options come up. We will never return. Not even with our dog. Extremely disappointed.
This place used to be really cool. Ive been coming for 20 years. While ago they decided that they didn't want wait staff to serve coffee and creamer anymore. You're now expected to get up and get your own. The best part about going to eat out for breakfast is having somebody fill your coffee cup. What else am I tipping for? The change was probably to help the wait staff get to more people so that more people could enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Some of the waitstaff are nice, but some are mean and shallow. The Food has always been just okay. I come for the back patio where I can bring my dog. But this time around i made the mistake of allowing my dog to lick my Cobb salad plate clean. The waitress said that she would have to throw the bowl away. And she did. I could hear it being tossed in the trash. She said it was in the recycling. I didn't know ceramic was recycled. I think I embarrassed myself a little bit by saying it was ridiculous. But no matter I'm not going to come back here again. I hope you all enjoy the patio and I hope you don't mind getting up every time you want a fresh cup of coffee. But after 20 years I'll be brunching somewhere else. Bye Sam's. Good luck.
I’ve seen so many people stand in long lines for this place so I thought it’d be good. Ordered the Chilaquiles and was extremely disappointed. Color was beautiful, flavor was awful. Too sweet not enough spice. This is what you order when you think you want something Mexican without committing to the actual flavor of the dish. If that sounds like you, then I guess that’s your order. Bacon was good. Coffee was bad. The server with a mauve dress that was helping us seemed like she was in a bad mood which contributed to the overall experience. Also some of the items were overpriced. I’m okay never coming back here again.
