My admiration for MEAMA started from the moment I entered the restaurant, its elegant and inviting ambiance with beautiful Artwork pieces and lighting felt very pleasant right away. I love Georgian cuisine and decided to try this new place , and I am happy I did, the food is amazing and nicely presented. my favorite vegetarian dish Pkhali made of spinach, beets and eggplant and seasoned with walnut , cilantro and pomegranate paste, served with traditional cornbread was exceptionally good.
Delightful spot! Fun wine list, lovely ambiance and the Khachapuri was heaven. Our server Sebastian was wonderful and gave incredibly warm service. Will be back!
The food is absolutely amazing— everything is so flavorful! The service is wonderful as well, very friendly and attentive, which makes the experience even better. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food and great service!
The service was wonderful and everything was delicious, especially the veal stew! Looking forward to coming back.
David was a fantastic server, very knowledgeable on the wine list and gave great recommendations all around, food was amazing!
Didn’t even have time to take a photo of the food when it arrived before everyone on my table began to devour it. Meama takes Georgian cuisine and effortlessly presents it in a style and manner that fits like a puzzle within the East village landscape. Delicious, stylish, and just overall wonderful!
MUST TRY! Incredible ambiance & super friendly staff. Authentic Georgian dishes & the dumplings are a must try. Family owned & you can feel the kindness.
This is the new Georgian restaurant with modern twist of the delicious traditional dishes. Highly recommend khachapuri, khinkali and lots of vegetarian options, also great desserts - my favorite was the best bask cheesecake I ever tried.
Amazing ambiance and the food was great, arrived on time and everything tasted amazing. Definitely will be coming back. The atmosphere is super comfortable. I recommend trying the Adjaruli Khachapuri and all the other Georgian side dishes that pair amazingly with the rest of the menu.
Beautiful space to spend the evening with friend! Food is amazing, there’s live music 6-11, and both areas are separated! Perfect for taking with your friends then hitting the dance floor.
Great place for a nice dinner! Atmosphere conducive to conversation, service attentive but not intrusive, good food in nice sized portions. I will come back again.
One of the best dining experiences I've had in NYC. Incredible service, and their cheesecake is definitely the best I've ever had. Highly recommend!
The hospitality here is unmatched and the food superb, Marika & Nino always make me feel like I’m at home I’ve been to many a Georgian restaurants but this is on another level and the best thing it’s up the street from me! I love coming!
Every dish was incredible. Highly recommend the prosciutto peach salad, the lamb shank, and the cheesecake is a unique work of culinary art.
Amazing experience here!!! The restaurant is intimate and we were extremely well received by the waiter (I wish I got his name!) who was kind and knowledgeable. He was able to recommend food and multiple wines when we needed it. The food was to die for, each dish bursting with flavor. Portions are great too. I will definitely be back.
The Peach Bellini is so good, plus the Mtsvadi Bites were simply amazing!! Would recommend coming here!! Staff are lovely!!
We went here on a Saturday to try Georgian food for the first time. It was excellent. We will be back. The lobio and imeruli khachapuri were standouts. Don’t miss the basque cheesecake. And drink the Georgian wines.
Absolutely amazing! The tenderloin was delicious and I loved the dumplings. Definitely coming back!
I really enjoyed the food. Music was great, waiter was the nicest. If you never had Georgian food you should try it.
Outstanding food and the friendliest service I’ve had anywhere in NYC. We loved it :)
Wow, I don’t know how they nailed every component. The music, interior design, the silverware. Before the food even comes - it’s perfect. And the food…perfect.
Went to Meama for the first time tonight and had a fantastic experience! There was amazing live jazz music, and my server Johnny was so personable and helpful. Definitely recommend this place!
Excellent food and great recommendations from our server. Tranquil atmosphere with a great window for people watching. Highly recommend the beet bites.
Loved trying out this new (for me) cuisine. Service was outstanding. Food was tasty and exciting. Sat outside, pleasant sidewalk table
Delicious and authentic Georgian meals. Love spiced meats, perfectly baked breads, and abundant cheese? This is the spot for you. Attentive staff, solid portions, and good prices.
The food was absolutely amazing and the service was outstanding. They serve the most delicious cheesecake, chicken in blackberry sauce and Khachapuri. Atmosphere was really beautiful and enjoyable. I highly recommend my friends to go there and try their delicious food. I am definitely coming back.
Me and my wife recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at Meama in NYC, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed not just as guests, but almost like family. We were lucky enough to try a special dish prepared by Chef Natia: baby chicken in blackberry juice. It was absolutely outstanding perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with a balance of flavors that was both unique and unforgettable. Every bite showcased the kind of creativity and passion that makes this restaurant stand out. What made our evening even more memorable was having the chance to chat with the owner. Their warmth, hospitality, and genuine pride in sharing Georgian culture added such a personal touch to our visit. It’s not often that you leave a restaurant feeling like you’ve just been part of something special, but that’s exactly how Meama makes you feel. If you’re in New York and want to experience authentic Georgian cuisine at its finest Meama is the place. We can’t wait to come back!
Second time ever having Georgian food! Saba was our server and was super helpful with recommending dishes for us. Everything was delicious and the vibe was cosy as well ☺️ Will come back the next time we’re in NYC!
The hospitality is only trumped by the taste of the incredible food! Key items to order: their signature cheese bread with pears and honey or the traditional bread cheese boat, the chicken soup is incredible, off the menu - lamb or beef dumplings, the lamb shank falls off the bone.
Happy hour featured a Georgian lager and an Adjaruli Khachapuri. The Adjaruli Khachapuri was a cheesy, salty good meal. The lager was reminiscent of a cream ale or Kolsch rather than the Czech or German pilsners. Having opened a week ago this place is not yet well known but I think that will change.
I recently discovered Meama, a wonderful new Georgian restaurant in the Lower East Side, and I'm so glad I did! The chicken and pork skewers were absolutely delicious – perfectly grilled with beautiful char and so flavorful. What really elevated them was the plum sauce, which added just the right sweet-tart complement to the savory meat. It was such a thoughtful touch that showed real attention to detail. I also loved the opportunity to explore their Georgian wine selection. As someone who hadn't tried many Georgian wines before, it was a real treat to discover these unique varieties. The staff was happy to guide us through the options, which made the experience even better. If you're looking to try something different in the neighborhood, Meama is definitely worth a visit. The food is excellent, and it's a great spot to expand your culinary horizons with Georgian cuisine. Highly recommend!
Fantastic! Stopped in for a light meal and had the Pkhali Trio and dumplings and were blown away. Our server was so friendly and gave great recommendations, plus the atmosphere was super cozy. Highly recommend.
Cozy and atmospheric wine bar serving delicious Georgian food. We came in for happy hour which featured 3 excellent house wines. The soup, khachapuri, and the Basque cheesecake were all incredible--as was the service!
What a great experience. Good music, excellent wine based cocktails and solid service. Everything is homemade and fresh and you can tell everything is made with love and care. Recommend this location for a date night or just to stop by and have a drink!
It was my sixth visit and so far I loved everything I ordered. Discovered new tastes, combinations and the Khinkali are to die for. Modern twist on a complex cuisine. And the atmosphere is great, welcoming. Staff are always warm and passionate about what they will serve you. New dishes are created regularly. Come quickly before it becomes too popular
Stopped in for Happy Hour wine and had some amazing butternut squash soup and Basque Cheesecake. It had a caramelized crust and very light like cream brûlée. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the cuisine.
My wife and I never had Georgian food before and didn't know what to expect. This place was amazing. Staff was awesome and the food was perfect. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. If you're on the fence about trying Georgian food I'd say just give it a go. You won't be disappointed by this restaurant. The flavors are really well balanced and the atmosphere is very charming.
Everything—from the food’s taste and presentation to the service and ambiance—is top quality at this restaurant. The menu features all the classic Georgian dishes, and the desserts are to die for, especially the cheesecake.
Incredible place, the food was amazing and the service was so friendly. Absolutely get the Georgian soup dumplings.
This is such a wonderful place. Extremely delicious food, excellent happy hour deals, and the most friendly and helpful staff. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening here and I look forward to returning.
I usually go to two other Georgian restaurants in the West Village, this one in the East Village, MEAMA is far superior. I have not had Georgian food this good since my trips to Tbilisi.
What a wonderful surprise. I've never tasted anything like this food before, and it was superb. The chef came to speak with us and asked what we thought, and shared about trying new dishes. It was a whole new experience of flavor. Our waiter was lovely and helpful about helping us decide what to try for a first time. Spot on, and the owner also came over to ask us what we thought, which is how I learned that Meama means it is a pleasure and wonderful experience. Spot on!
We celebrated my birthday at Meama with over 30 Turkish friends, and it was amazing! The food was super tasty – we especially loved the khinkali and khachapuri. The service was great too. The staff were friendly, helpful, and really took care of us, even with such a big group. The place has a nice vibe and beautiful decoration. Everyone had a great time and left very happy. Thanks to the Meama team for making my birthday so special. We’ll definitely come back!
Delicious. First time trying Georgian food after having wanted to for a long time. What an awesome introduction to such an interesting and tasty cuisine. David and staff couldn’t have been nicer. Whole place was very cozy- ven the bathrooms were decorated beautifully.
Absolutely outstanding experience! The atmosphere was elegant yet cozy — perfect for a relaxed evening or a romantic dinner. Every detail, from the music to the lighting, felt perfectly curated. The staff were attentive and genuinely kind, making us feel like special guests. The food was flavorful, beautifully presented, and full of authentic Georgian taste. Definitely one of those hidden gems you never forget. Highly recommended! 👌🏽🍷
We chose this restaurant after much research, and we are visiting NYC from New Zealand. What a great find! We tried the wine flights, and all our food was delicious. A special mention about the Khachapuri and the hand rolled dumplings, plus the wine flights. We loved our main meals too. The team at Meama were fabulous, friendly and kind. You won’t regret dining at Meama.
My friend and I shared 4 things and they were all amazing. We got butternut squash soup, the bean boat, the chicken kebabs and the dumplings (2 beef 1 cheese) the cheese dumpling was SO juicy and delicious, butternut squash was yummy and light, the bean bit was SO creamy and really good in the squash soup… and the kebabs were perfectly cooked and so good with the salad.
The food was incredible, everything tasted so fresh and the flavors were absolutely perfectly balanced. I couldnt choose a favorite dish because everything was so perfect. The bread was also supppppeerrrbbbbbbbbbb. so crunchy but soft and herby. I will be coming back 100%.
It was a very pleasant atmosphere. We walked in, two of us. Decor was inviting, colorful and light. Music was not too loud, able to talk and enjoy the meal casually. The service was exactly what we needed. Great wine, Saperavi, Nadelevi. The mushrooms and the khachapuri were absolutely delicious!
Been coming here since they opened last year! Food and service is consistently top notch and has even improved with new additions to their menu. Portions and flavor are incredible! Don't miss out on the eggplant walnut rolls to start 🙏
Fantastic and delicious unique dishes! Georgian Fusion --- Pomegranate Saperavi Sangria was very good. Khinkali soup dumplings were excellent as were the lamb shanks. The Lobio and Meama Signature Khachapuri bread were standouts.
A beautiful place with an inviting atmosphere and truly delicious food. Everything we tried was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The Trio Pkhali was excellent — rich, fresh, and perfectly balanced with walnuts. My favorite dish was the Georgian-style chicken soup: comforting, flavorful, and done just right. Desserts were a highlight as well. The signature Napoleon cake was unlike the classic version — light, delicate, and absolutely delicious. The Basque cheesecake felt like more than just dessert; it was a celebration. The Pelamushi cocktail was a lovely surprise — creative, well-balanced, and a great nod to the traditional Georgian grape dessert. To top it all off, the selection of traditional Georgian wines was fantastic. A wonderful spot for anyone looking to experience Georgian cuisine with a modern, refined touch. Highly recommend!
This is a gem that needs to be discovered by more people. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The food is amazing. The dumplings(make sure you get instructions from the owner before you try and eat them) were delicious as was the pear flatbread. We were treated to a surprise appetizer that was as tasty as it was delicious. I am so happy that we decided to stop in!!
Had a great time in this cozy restaurant. The atmosphere was quiet, calming and felt just like home. The food was top-notch — it tasted homemade but with the most incredible flavors. I especially enjoyed the beet bites, pear salad, khinkali, lamb shank and the cheesecake… truly the most delicious dessert I’ve ever had! The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. The host, Michelle, was so much fun, Chef George was kind and personable and the baker, Marika, recommended their signature cheesecake — and hands down, it was the BEST cheesecake I’ve ever had in my life. Can’t wait to come back soon!
Amazing atmosphere, staff were friendly and attentive. Every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The Lamb shank was a masterpiece, slow cooked, flavorful, tender and huge portion. Highly recommend for flavor seekers! We ordered few other dishes , including Khinkali- Hand-rolled dumplings filled with seasoned ground meat, savory broth, herbs and onion, it was amazing, as well as Georgian Salad- Tomatoes, cucumber, marinated red onions, grilled plums, fermented sprouts, house dressing was well balanced and tasteful. Huge organic Georgian Wine selection. Thank you Chef and Team for creativity and high class presentation! We'll be returning soon!
A great gem in the neighborhood! My boyfriend and I randomly stumbled into this restaurant looking for some wine and a bite to eat and this place definitely deserves more traffic. The mushroom entree was AMAZINGGG and so flavorful! The people who work here are so sweet and really put love and care into their food and service. Will definitely be coming back.
One of the best beet salads I’ve ever eaten . The freshness of the greens, the sweetness of the roasted beets, and the creaminess of the cheese all came together perfectly. The textures were spot-on — crunchy, soft, and smooth in every bite. It’s a beautifully prepared vegetarian dish that feels both light and satisfying. Absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend trying it!!! 🤩🤩🤤
I’m usually not a big fan of Georgian cuisine—but MEAMA completely changed my mind! The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. I ordered the peach salad and it was a total game-changer—so fresh, so flavorful, just wow. My husband got the khinkali and said they were insanely good as well. We also shared the Adjaruli khachapuri and oh my god… pure bliss. Warm, cheesy, buttery perfection. We paired everything with sangria, which was also really tasty and refreshing. The service was excellent—our server was super friendly and the food came out surprisingly fast. Highly recommend this place, even if Georgian food isn’t normally your thing. You might just fall in love with it here!
Fantastic experience. When I saw a Georgian grandma working her magic back in the kitchen I knew something special was about to take place. I have been to every Georgian restaurant in the city (and Georgia itself) and this was as close to the source as I could find. The chkmeruli adjaruli chachapuri wines, Konkani, and service was impeccable. Our server Ana was fantastic, attentive, warm, and welcoming. Great ambiance , really the perfect date spot. Go here you won’t regret it!
Side notes/mini review. I'd heavily recommend the kubdari with the khinkali also being pricey but excellent. I went to this new Georgian restaurant/wine bar earlier in the evening with a pretty large group. In terms of prices, I would compare this place more to Chito Gvrito than some other places or as noted in the side notes, a classier take on Chama Mama. The staff was friendly here, whether it was the waiters or the woman whom I believe was the owner. They have a larger selection of Georgian wines, as well as other mostly European wines, including the traditional amber/qveri, along with red, sparkling, and white, with the prices ranging from around $15 to $25. There are also also as small flights from $20 to $29 (with the latter one having 4 2 oz pours.) They otherwise have cocktails, a Georgian beer, and some soft drinks. Not in the mood for alcohol, I went with a Tarragon Soda, which was the usual Natakhtari brand, for $7. We were going to order the Eggplant Rolls with Walnut (or Nigvziani Badrijani,) which was $21, but they were unfortunately out of them and making more, so instead, they recommended the Pkhali Trio, which was $25. Said dish came with spinach, beans, and red beets seasoned with walnut paste and garnished with cilantro oil and pomegranate reduction. The pkhali was nicely flavored, though a bit less garlicky than some other spots before, with a good texture. The portion was adequate for the price point, even with splitting it in four. We also got some of their Khinkali, a Georgian type of dumpling more akin to a soup dumpling where you bite off a small part of it and drink the hot soup before eating the rest. The prices are a bit high for this, with it being $17 for three dumplings of one type or $18 for a trio where you can pick, but at least the skin in general was a bit thinner. We went with two plates of the Lamb khinkali and one plate of the Mushroom one. I first tried the mushroom khinkali, which was nice and earthy with a good texture, as noted. The lamb version, which I had half of, was even better with plenty of soup and a nice tender meaty inside. Even with the price point, these are much better than some other spots I have been to so I would probably still recommend them. The best main dish was unexpected for me, which was the Kubdari, for $23 or so, listed as organic chopped beef pie seasoned with onions and fresh herbs and baked on an open fire. The dish came topped with some lightly pickled carrots and cabbage along with a pickled piece of cauliflower. I usually find this meat pie in most Georgia spots to be rather boring, but this was outstanding, with a very nice inside with plenty of tender meat. It was a bit more flavored than most, almost being more similar to the inside of a samsa or similar. The crust was also nice and thin We, of course, also got a khachapuri but went with a unique one instead of the more traditional Megruli or Adjaruli. In this case, it was the Khachapuri With Pear and Roquefort Cheese for $29 listed as Meama signature Khachapuri, baked on an open fire, and topped with conference pear slices and Roquefort cheese. This was a very tasty spin, being a bit less salty than the usual versions with the cheese adding a unique funk compared to the usual sulguni and imeruli. The only thing I was not a fan of here was their odd take on Shkmeruli, for $32, listed as golden roasted Cornish hen in garlic cream sauce and served with house baked bread. I usually find this dish to be very garlicky and quite delicious, but this was different, with the sauce being thicker with a nuttier consistency, almost reminding me of satsivi (which is a dish I like less.) The chicken was also unfortunately undersalted and not super tender either. Outside of the miss with the shkmeruli, this is a tasty Georgian spot. It's a bit pricier than most but in terms of pricier Georgian spots, this is one of the better ones. Leaving a high rating as I hope they do well, but I might bump this down to a 4 eventually.
Stopped by to try Georgian food for the first time. Saba, the bartender was incredibly helpful and patient on explaining the food and wine. And the experience was just fantastic. I had the beef and pork dumplings with Georgian beer which really hit the spot. Then I got the red Georgian wine with cheese boat with great taste and texture.
We’ve been to quite a few Georgian restaurants before. This one is definitely one of the best ones in the city. All the food we tried was fresh and delicious, the people are super friendly and welcoming. We had a wonderful time. Definitely get the basque cheesecake for desert - it’s to die for.
Our visit was an absolute blast! The place had this warm and inviting atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious - we couldn’t stop talking about how tasty it was. This place is a hidden gem! It’s unique and super good. I’ve never had modern Georgian food as flavorful and interesting as this. We had the Georgian salad, which was a mix of traditional and new flavors. The meat, mushroom, and spinach dumplings were all great, and the khachapuri dish with pear, honey, and blue cheese was the star of the show. And for dessert, we had the bask cheese cake brûlée, which was absolutely incredible! We’re definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu. A special shoutout to Saba, our server, who made our evening truly memorable!
My new favorite spot in NYC! The atmosphere was so lovely, the staff were very friendly and the food was delicious! I visited with my family and we had Eggplant rolls with walnut, Pkhali Trio, Adjaruli Khachapuri and Chikhirtma. Everything was delicious but eggplant rolls and Chikhirtma were my favorite! I highly recommend their cocktails too, I had Pelamushi (a wine cocktail) and I’m definitely coming back for this one. Also their Basque cheesecake tasted as good as one I had in San Sebastian! 10/10
The food was delicious. We got the beef dumplings, cheese boat and the Cornish hen. My only complaint/rec would be to provide some kind of side with the Cornish hen. It was pretty expensive to not even come with a side… It looks like in other photos the Cornish hen with blackberry sauce was served with veggies and bread so consistency would be nice! It did mention bread was served with the dish on the menu but we never got any.
It was good. The reviews made me think it was going to be exceptional but it was just good. I think everything was priced a bit high. I grew up eating Georgian food but was most excited for the eggplant roll ups (nigvziani badrijani), I thought they were priced way too high and were bland. The hachipuri was good. Maybe I was there on an off night but this is not a place I’d walk away saying “OMG YOU MUST GO”.
The cornish hen with the blackberry sauce was really memorable! I was worried at first because the sauce looked like it'd be overpowering, but it was actually pretty light and a great addition to the chicken, which I thought was cooked well. The adjarian khachapuri was also TO DIE FOR. Probably one of the best I've had. The beef mtsvadi was on the drier side. I liked the flavor, but wouldn't order again. We also had the eggplant with tomato sauce appetizer. It was served cold, which I didn't expect, but that's on me for not knowing. It wasn't bad but wasn't great, it was just okay. Our server Saba(?) was pleasant and answered our questions thoughtfully. He also gave us extra bread, which I'm guessing was made in-house. It was pretty good! Overall would recommend this place!
Let me start by saying this was a huge disappointment. A friend and I stopped in on a whim because we were starving and the space looked cute from the outside. Unfortunately, that is where the positives ended. The service was slow from the start. We had to ask for menus after being seated, and when we were finally ready to order, we had to flag someone down. There were only about three staff members working the entire restaurant, which likely explains the delay, but it still made for a frustrating experience. We ordered a cheeseboard and were honestly shocked by how underwhelming it was. It looked like something thrown together at home. The crackers were basic Ritz, the grapes did not appear to be rinsed, and overall it felt very low effort, especially for $25. We also ordered dumplings, and the cheese inside was cold and unappetizing. The food was not enjoyable and actually left us feeling sick afterward. The most disappointing part was the bill. For over $70, we expected much better quality and service. Sadly, this was not worth the price, and I would not recommend this place.
