Absolutely delightful modern Mexican cuisine place. Key word here is insects. As much as it sounds gross at first, it is actually awesome! Grasshoppers to be more precise, that's what you need to try here. The Black Ant is one absolutely eccentric place. Take traditional Mexican dish and think how it would look like if Uncle Fester from The Adams Family is the chef. I'm talking only about the looks, taste that's a whole different level. Blend of spices and sauces will be refreshment and adventure for your senses. Drinks are very amazingly delicious and creative. Cocktail list is margarita based. I tried Mayan God Remedy. Tastes like it sounds. Big kudos for artworks on the walls and ambient overall. It is on the edge between classy and obscure. Staff is very friendly, attentive and contribute a lot to overall experience.

This slightly hidden hideaway has some of the best enchiladas ive ever had, the food is decadent and crafted uniquely for each guest. The atmosphere is amazing and if you think your one of those people that wants an eating experience over just going to get food to eat, than this place is for you.

Our waitress Andrea was great ! The fish tacos were really good! The tres leches and the flan 100% recommended !! I love it! I would definitely recommend 🤍🤍🤍

The best place in the city to eat some bugs! (Or not, if you don't want to). Prices tend to be on the slightly fancier side, bit the quality of the food is to match. They seriously have the very best guacamole that I have ever tasted in my life.

We were a group of family and friends who chose to go for a meal at the Black Ant. First time for all of us. We had a pitcher of sangria, we hadto add an extra 2 glasses of Tempranillo to imprive the flavor. We ate Happy hour appetizers then 4 selections from the entree menu. Enjoyed our evening!

n NYC, anything and everything can become fancy with a modern twist. Here at The Black Ant, they have successfully turned the Mexican cuisine into something more creative and upscale. And what else is great about this place? Their happy hour. So we decided to check them out during the happy hour. Since we were there specifically for the happy hour, we sat at the outside. If you want to order from the happy hour menu, you have to be at/around bar area. We heard a lot about their Guacamole, so we decided to start off with that. And my goodness it was amazing! I had the "Holy Guacamole!!!" moment. And this is coming from not-so-fan of guacamole (me). Everything else we ordered was fantastic, each very tasty, high quality, creative and delicious! We also ordered a cactus fries off the regular menu, as I was curious.I have not had cactus fries before, and I heard they do a really great ones here. And, I would say it was a good call. They were pretty good, the texture and taste similar to zucchini. After the wonderful meal and drinks, we decided to order one dessert to share. I noticed one dessert item that said "good to share" on it, so we decided to go with that. We ordered Ya Supe Lupe Sundae. I was a bit concerned when I read the "Avocado ice cream" as I am not a fan of avocado. But, they created the most delicious Guacamole I have ever tasted here, so the ice cream must also be delicious, right? the answer is YES! The ice cream was so tasty, creamy, velvety, just perfect! I can't believe it was made with avocado... The food was amazing, service was great, we really enjoyed our dining experience here. It is now one of our favorite spot. I can't wait to go back for some more wonderful creations! Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

The staff is amazing, the food is good and the Margaritas are ridiculously delicious (the Mango is my favorite both regular and spicy).

You have to try the Pato taco and the margaritas. If the waitress recommends switching tequila for mezcal, do not hesitate!

Everything was absolutely delicious. The ambience was amazing. The drinks were amazing and the food was fabulous. I get to try out a different experience that I have never tried before which is eating grasshopper on a croquet. Can’t wait to go back again. Thanks you for wonderful service, compliment to the Chef.

Despite the waiter informing us that they were understaffed, which we appreciated the transparency, service was really good and fast! Food was good too! Everyone in my group enjoyed the food and the mimosas. The waiter even informed us when we were close to our end time for boozy brunch. I did have reservations.

I originally ended up at this establishment because someone invited me here and didn't tell me exactly what this restaurant was all about. They told me it was "extremely" unique food. They ordered food for me and asked me to eat it with an open mind. The ground grasshopper-crusted shrimp and black ant guacamole was ordered. I ate it and actually enjoyed it and the rest of the meal. I thought it was one of the most delicious meals I had ever eaten. When we left the restaurant that is when I was old what it was. I wasn't to happy but when I got home I realized that I had enjoyed it and ended up going back to try a few more of their dishes. This place does a pretty good job of making insects into delicatessens. I do recommend if you can stomach it to go and try this place out, you will not regret it.

Man the food was so yummy. The cricket dish was also very delicious and did not make me squimish at all. I wish they have a restaurant like this back in Canada. Will probably have to come back in the future next time I visit new York. Also the cocktails were very yummy. 5/5 stars

The Black Ant is a great spot for delicious Mexican food + cocktails in the East Village of Manhattan!! I came in for the first time this weekend with a couple of friends - we caught the end of their Happy Hour and had a lovely experience! :-) Mackenzie took amazing care of us @ the bar, so much so that we decided to hang around past Happy Hour's conclusion. The cocktails here are SO delicious (I had the Traditional Margarita in Pink Guava + in Passion Fruit). For food, we only tried the Black Ant Guac, but that alone told us that the dishes here must be really good!! The guacamole was fresh and full of flavor. The atmosphere inside The Black Ant is really lovely as well. This is a great spot - go see Mackenzie at the bar & enjoy!!

Like this place, especially the ants in food lol. Many foods have black ants in it, just like the name. It is a great Mexican food, i like the tacos a lot. Bottomless drink for sure! Hidden big tables at the back, can take big group for 8-10 people.

As a foodie and mezcal enthusiastic I would say I was very satisfied with the selection of mezcal that black ant possess. I enjoy my time there in company of good people as well, I love the service was lovely, the bartender was generous to us to help us go through the mezcal and give us some suggestions about the taste as well. I definitely will be back to make more memories and remember to savor the taste of mezcal for sure.

Duck Rancheros $16 is the best entree, so delicious. The bottomless brunch $25 seems pricey for 90 minutes but it's pretty great. The drinks pack a punch, you won't be left wanting.

It wasn't super busy, making the service great! We got the bottomless brunch and let's just say they topped off our mimosas everytime! The food was also delicious and not too much! Such a cute place inside and out.

Excellent drinks, very cool decor. They clearly take the whole ant motif very seriously! There's a dope wall mural in the back. Was here on date night and it felt trendy / bumpin but not so loud as to lose a sense of intimacy. The tlacoto was interesting and I'm glad I tried it but the tortilla was a little soggy so the texture felt off. The trout was superb and perfect in every way - sooo flavorful and well-balanced.

Great experience about #mextizo at black ant. A new concept of food between Peruvian and Mexican chefs, the plates are super tasty with a touch of modern ingredients. Such a great experience I enjoyed having the opportunity to taste this fusion of cultures and dishes.

Short: Great Mexican style restaurant with insect dishes Long: Mexican style restaurant with insect dishes on their menu for Dinner (not around Brunch time!!). Eating there sets you back around 80-100 dollars for two persons (including drinks). The staff is very friendly and quick, the ambience is stylish, facilities are clean and COVID rules (masks, sanitizers) are applied. The only "downside" for us was that the music was a bit too loud for chatting while eating.

Came here on a Friday night around 8pm and there were a few open tables for walk ins. The restaurant had a few good options with black ants and grasshoppers. We tried the black ant guacamole and there was an option to have it without the ants. We tried it and couldn’t really feel a difference with the ants being there, but we enjoyed the novelty factor and trying something new. I recommend this place if you are adventurous and want to try something different

Checked this place out for brunch and it was fantastic! Everything on the menu sounds delicious so we’ll definitely go back. I can easily recommend the steak and eggs or the burger. The drinks are made well too! The mimosa was made with pulpy orange juice which made it taste fresh and refreshing.

This is some pretty great Mexican with several unique twists. Nice vibe and atmosphere, and good drinks and cocktails. And not so inventive and precious it doesn’t fill you up: it does, with generous portions and solid, expected flavors that come with a singular flair. And some exotic choices too if you’re feeling up for it.

We came as a group on Saturday and had the best experience for a bottomless brunch. The food was delicious and the menu offered something for everyone. The bottomless deal is either mimosas or margaritas and our glasses were never empty. The servers were incredible. I would 100% recommend!

We checked out the black ant or happy hour. Excellent margaritas! I opted to have mine with the ant and salt and sugar rim on the glass. I don't think ants have a lot of flavor but the combination of ingredients was tasty. We had really delicious snacks at very reasonable prices. It's busy but not rushed. You can even sit outside because it has an outdoor area on the street. Go early. Get trashed. Eat some carbs so you don't get a hangover. Lots of fun!

Went with two friends and booked a reservation ahead of time. The food and the drinks were very very good, as was the service. A member of our party had a gluten allergy, and the server had no issue giving her recommendations based on her needs. The only setback was the price!

C

Went here for a friend reunion and the menu had options for everyone. Veggie tacos with beets are great. The backyard is cozy and the staff very welcoming. Great guac! Not the best margaritas I’ve had but overall very good experience!

E

The ambiance and decor is really nice, and even some outdoor seating that's great to take a small party. If it get's chilly there's also a heat lamp to help a bit. The food is quite tasty but the portions are small. They also serve actual black ants and other more unique foods so that's really cool since I know it's a big part of the culture!

S

This restaurant was fantastic. I celebrated my 25th birthday in the garden room. The food was very good and I loved the atmosphere. I requested an open bar and the pre-fixed menu. The margaritas were very yummy and strong! Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this place.

This is a decent spot for drinks and food. Drinks are made well and strong. Food was solid and tasty Mexican American food. Prices were average city prices. They have good happy hour options for drinks ranging from beers, wine including Sangria, and Margaritas at decent prices ($5-$9). Their signature Smokey Jalapenos Margaritas was smooth and well-balanced. You can taste the "smokey" but not overly spicy. They also have a good selection of food on their happy hour menu. I also tried their Enchapulinados (grasshopper shrimp tacos). It sounds more exotic then it looked. I could not find or taste the grasshoppers in this dish. It was just fried shrimp and was too dry from being over cooked. For brunch, their black ant burger and the octopus sandwich on an hot dog bun were scrumptious with huge amount of fries and salad on the side.

I

Context: went during brunch on a Sunday around 2PM in Mar 2021. Tried few of the flavored margaritas and they were great. Food was great as well, but the price point was a bit high for quality. Very understaffed as the wait just to pay was very long (assuming this is due to reopening recently after relaxed COVID rules). Overall good experience, but not perfect.

S
Selene Muñoz

Decent food and reasonable prices. I went for dinner with my friends. The food is exotic Mexican food. If you are brave enough to try the grasshoppers, I recommend that you do. The guacamole was amazing! And so was the octopus and rabbit enchiladas. I also tried the lechon, it tasted good, but it was in a block and wasn't too appealing.

G
Gary Walderich

Great, authentic, gourmet style Mexican food. Superb cocktails and you have to order their guacamole as an appetizer. I would have given them a 5 star, however, our service was spotty/slow and we would always have to wave down our waitress to order or get additional items/drinks.

Interesting vibe for East 4th street. The food is delicious with a twist. Mexican food with a hint of hipster. The decoration isn’t my favorite. I do not want to see ants while I am eating. Drinks are good and strong!

Came here with a friend without a reservation around 6:15pm on a Saturday night. Comfortable booths, dim lighting, kind staff, and a super cute bartender :) The chicken tacos were delicious. Didn’t love the salsa for the chips and salsa, not a ton of flavor. My friend seemed to like her fish tacos too. They have a pretty patio as well, although didn’t get a good look at it.

I could rate everything 5 stars because what I ordered with my partner was great except the side of beans that were lack of cook, dull flavor. Also, I’d say a little expensive. But! The good things: The staff is amazing, warm people, and the best is the patio! It’s beautiful and they have great events there!

I went to the black ant during happy hour. The place is unique and the service is great. I loved their guacamole. I ordered chicken tacos which I did not enjoy because it was a little too dry. There wasn't any type of sauce in it. I was a little disappointed about that.

Love this spot! The 3/4 food items were delicious croquettes, shrimp tacos, and home marrow tacos were a must order! Skip the albondigas. Chips and salsa were great to. The Black Ant is an outstanding dining experience. The staff is friendly and professional and the food is excellent. My only criticism is I think they should lean more heavily into the insect motif in their food. They have a black ant guac and grasshopper croquettes that are AMAZING but they have zero entrees with insect protein. This is a huge oversight. Good Mexican food is not hard to find in NYC, but if the Black Ant committed more to their insect theme they could stand out as a truly unique NY restaurant.

Natalia Le

We got the croquetas and tlayuda to start, then chicken al pastor tacos and carne asada. The grasshopper croquetas were the highlight of the meal, but we enjoyed everything we ate. The chicken al pastor tacos were a bit sweet for my taste. The margaritas were just ok. We sat in the indoor garden (cute area), and it was warm enough with heated lamps, but I'd recommend sitting inside or bringing a jacket if you get cold easily.

Joel A.R.

Quite a nice atmosphere, food is good. I got attracted to the tortillas, orange and kind of fluffy a tiny bit sweet but very tasty. You have to try the grasshoppers either as appetizer or garnish they taste quite good. The service is good and staff is friendly. Oh yeah, they have a good selection of tequila if you're in the mood. I will definitely come back to try more dishes.

Had the Chef Special Menu and the courses were all fresh with different flavors. The final flan made with the black ant topping was sweet and savory, sangria was good, and overall it was an experience. 4/5 for pricing and portions

Let me start off with I love their music play list haha as a latin dancer, I just wanted to get up and dance at the restaurant. The atmosphere was relaxed and cozy. We ordered every thing from the happy hour menu. They came out very good. Very refreshing. Also the drinks are tropical. I loved my mango margarita. The tacos are yummy 🤤 not too greasy. The size and portion are good and price is reasonable. Only disappointment was not able to see the grasshopper in the grasshopper taco. I’m not sure if they chopped up the grasshoppers or what, but I would really want to see the whole grasshopper and be able to taste it lol

My husband and I ordered drinks and appetizers. The service was amazing. Prices are ok. The food is good but maybe my expectations were too off, I thought that all their plates would have insects as ingredients. I was kind of disappointed to learn that was not the case. The guacamole was the best I ate in Manhattan so far, but the ants were barely noticeable. The drinks were very good too.

A
Andrew Dabydeen

Came here with a few friends on a Friday night and we were able to get a table without reservations. The service was great but the portion size really isn’t the greatest, especially since the food is decently expensive. The tacos were okay, nothing amazing but the chips and guacamole were awesome. Not sure if I’ll stop by again if I’m in the area as once was enough for me.

J
JJ

Average food, high prices for the menu and drinks. Friendly staff and service! The food menu didn’t really interest me much so I got the dessert only and I liked it. I can’t really judge on the food menu but my friend got tacos and dumplings and said they were alright but would not recommend.

Dined at The Black Ant last weekend for a birthday brunch. The establishment was able to accommodate 16 people with multiple tables pushed together to form a long row. We were seated in the brightly lit patio in the back of the restaurant - so glad we got to dine out there as opposed to the darker alternative in the indoor parts of the restaurant. Really changed up the mood of the place FOOD: For brunch, I ordered the Steak Rancheros. There were maybe 3 small pieces of steak in there - they weren't too impressive or tasty. Even though there wasn't that much food, I wasn't really feeling the dish, and gave the rest of it away to be finished. Many other people who ordered the Steak Rancheros were still left hungry, so they stepped out for a bit in search of pizza or takoyaki to supplement their meal. The birthday girl ordered the Black Ant Burger - she was able to replace the beef patty with chicken instead, as she doesn't eat beef. The burger buns were black, but same taste as a regular bun (it was only black food coloring or something). My friend said the burger was good but nothing too special. Another guy ordered an omelet for brunch - it was just a regular omelet, looked small and unspectacular. Our food took a really long time to arrive, but he got his meal last out of the 16 of us haha even though it prob takes the shortest amount of time to cook an omelet. DRINKS: From the brunch drinks menu, you're able to choose from a mimosa, bloody maria, traditional margarita, and smoky jalapeno margarita. You have the option of adding flavor to each drink for $1 (flavors include cucumber, mango, passionfruit, and prickly pear). The drinks were strong & the favorite one of the table seemed to be the mango margarita. TL;DR All in all, the food at The Black Ant was very meh imo. Waited a while for our water cups to be refilled. The drinks and dishes could've came out a bit faster. The waiters were nice, no complaints there. I liked the atmosphere of the patio section of the establishment though!

A group dinner of people on a Saturday night. It was enjoyable but not sure I will be inclined to repeat. Menu has rather limited choices and it lead to quite a few people of the group to choose the "safe" dish which was pork tacos. The highlight of the food was their crudo style dish. If you do not have reservations they sit you at the back of the restaurant which was a bit odd since we walked thru an empty restaurant.

K
Kajol Parikh

The atmosphere was all we paid for. It had very basic vegetarian options and overpriced too. Wouldn't recommend if you're vegetarian/vegan.

We went for brunch on a Saturday and the pace was super crowded. Since it was a very hot day, everyone was sitting indoors, and it was a bit stuffy. But the food was decent. I really liked my fish tacos. My friend thought the chilaquiles lacked in flavor. The mimosas were strong!

F
F H

Food was tasty but waitress forgot one of our orders, included cheese in a meal that was requested without cheese, and was oddly disengaged, with an air of impatience and condescension. Pretty basic stuff, all wrong! Additionally certain drinks can only be ordered in a separate menu that does not include certain meals?

T
Terri L. Wilder

The guacamole is amazing. Got the veggie enchiladas. Horrible. Not worth the price. Literally shreds of vegetables in corn tortilla. No beans, no cheese. It was just covered in tons of red sauce that tasted like tomato sauce. Please revisit the recipe and make it something that has some substance.

We paid $65 per person for an “open bar” that consisted of three options: beer, wine, or premixed margaritas. I’m pretty sure the margarita mix was bad because we ended up sick. The food was good tho, just really suspect drinks.

Went there a few months ago with a friend who thought it was cool, and on her list of places to go. I'm a vegetarian, and eating here is basically impossible. Not because they don't have options, but because their menu says things are vegetarian or vegan when they absolutely aren't. And at the same time, dishes that seem vegetarian don't have the icon to let you know. For example, guac has blank ant salt (contains ants) and is labeled vegan. Tacos with oxaca cheese is labeled vegan. I waited a few months to post this review in case they changed it after I mentioned, but they didn't. I can't trust eating here with a dietary restriction and I'm not sure you should either. P.S. double zero is across the street, and we got food there after, and it's phenomenal.

The Baja fish tacos was reasonable and the guacamole was fresh and tasty. I gave two stars because the staff was bad. 10 minutes before the end of happy hour, our waitress said "last call on happy hour drinks" in which we made our order in time and still charged us full price for the drinks when knowing that's not fair. First they claim they gave us the wrong bill after we paid in full and replaced it a much higher bill. The excuse our waitress said her server "accidentally" gave us the wrong bill. You shouldn't have to wait 15 minutes after we paid to realize it was the wrong check. The staff needs improvements and better communication. First and last time at the Black Ant.. I can make my own guacamole just as better

The food is fine but over-designed and less tasty than most cheaper Mexican restaurants. The watermelon mocktailThe gimmick is intriguing but, as it turns out, very disappointing. None of the main dishes have insects, only some of the appetizers; and those have so little insect in them that doubtless many customers have eaten them without realizing it. I hoped to enjoy and experience insects as food, instead I had slightly underwhelming chicken tacos. Save your money and your palate: go to a food truck.

Highly recommend that you do not go here. The service was exceptionally slow. Are the enchiladas worth almost $30? No. They taste like sawdust. Is the pitcher of margaritas worth $70? Not for a minute. Do yourself a favor and go to taqueria st marks.

The place was nice and the staff is very friendly. Only good thing about this establishment. I had the oxtail dumplings. I didn’t really it at all. The taste was very bland. Nothing on the menu interested me initially but this was the spot that my friend group decided on. I wanted to try the quesadillas to give the place another shot but it was a “brunch only” menu item which is silly. Nothing on the “dinner” menu seemed appetizing. Greatly disappointed.

I wish I could do 2 1/2 stars. 2 seems kind of mean and this could really just be a personal preference on my part but everything was too sweet. If I had a restaurant I might find I had to Americanize recipes with more sugar too rather than go out of business but it was too much for me. The sauce on the rabbit was sweet. The ant salt on the rim of the glass was sugared. They put that ant sauce on the guacamole too. I don't want sugar in my guacamole. gross! But again, maybe that's personal preference. I love savory foods and sour cocktails. As completely charming (like seriously lovely) all the waitstaff was, I watched the ice in my drink melting on the bar for a good while before it was brought it to my table. I guess there was some delay in getting my partners wine poured. It wasn't very crowded that night. FYI For people who need this sort of thing --- it was kid friendly.

Actually decently tasty food, but about half the brunch menu was not available on a Saturday (basically all the best items), can't have that degree of supply issues for the weekend. Also messed up one of our orders. Not a bad experience, but you can do much better in the neighborhood.

Came here looking for insects and it was a bit tame and lackluster than i wanted. I ordered their Black Ant Negroni, first thing was the glass they served the drink in. They gave me a taller glass for their drink that reach just halfway up. It looks absurd, like someone had a taste test and decided to sip it a few more times before serving it. Not the best in presentation. I actually was expecting the black ant salt to be on the rim or sprinkled on top but it's mixed in the cocktail. While the negroni itself was fine, the black ant salt didn't really work too well in the cocktail. The sharpness of the earthy flavor contrast with the bitter negroni flavor a bit more than I wanted to. Then there was the grasshopper croquettes. I really should had known it was their appetizer and not one of the meals cause the 4 croquette balls were small. 3 out of 4 of us each ordered it and was left pretty unsatisfied. We probably should had ordered the main meal but $13 for those 4 small balls and $14 for a bowl of guac was enough to discourage us from ordering more. The croquettes were good but for a place that encourages eating insects, it was pretty tame. I wish they had deep fried the grasshoppers instead of blending it with the yucca where most of the flavor and texture of the grasshopper was lost. The grasshopper blended salsa had just the right amount of heat but it reminded me of anchos pepper salsa more than the earthiness of insects. The fried crickets/grasshopper on top was a nice touch but just reminded me of it's short comings (get it?). Overall I guess this is what I should had expected for a fancy restaurant in St. Mark's area which really caters to young Middle Americans who moved to the village and wants to try exotic foods but can't seem to break out of their comfort zone enough to jump into the real deal.

The service is 5 star but I we all know the food is what matters! Two words to describe Black Ant would be basic and underwhelming. If I had to choose a third word it would be mediocre. The food was just okay! I was very disappointed with the flavors.

I've been to the black ant before and had great experiences but had a very scary and horrible experience last night. I and another person in my party have severe nut allergies. I told the waiter this when we put in our order for guacamole and saw him write down "peanut allergy" - he assured me I would be fine and there would be no nuts. I ate the guacamole and felt off immediately. I felt progressively worse and left the restaurant. Our party was told after there were in fact nuts in the guacamole. Extreme negligence on behalf of the staff could have led to a deadly dining experience. Do not recommend this restaurant if you have allergies!

Happy Hour rip off! (/fraud?) - margaritas are $8 for happy hour. We followed our server's advice to upgrade to a pitcher which serves 5 people. Pitcher was $70. So by following their advice and buying more, we were charged almost 50% more than if we'd just bought individually!

The setting is decent. They have great place to eat food. But the food is not worth the quality and quantity anyone would expect for a brunch. New York has much better places to eat and this is not one of them. My friend ordered papas con chimmichurri which was basically home fries and ketchup. The chimmichurri sauce was non existent. When we told the waiter about there being no chimmichurri sauce they said it was mixed with the potato. It seemed as if they mixed some common hot and spicy sauce with the potatoes and served it. I ordered a quesadilla and it was more plain corn tortilla than an actual quesadilla. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant if you’re trying to have a decent meal.

Booked a group of nine for a bachelorette brunch. Received an automated text confirming thirty minutes prior to our reservation time, but when we showed up the restaurant windows were papered over and a “temporarily closed” sign was on the door. Had to scramble to find someplace else that could accommodate us. Would have been nice for them to remember to cancel their bookings.

Don’t plan an event here. Thought everything was great until the Monday before when I received a text message from an unknown number saying, “Unfortunately their was a broken pipe from the building that's happened to flood and cause issue in the kitchen and we won't be able to host your reservation. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing.” No name, no additional information. Since I was holding multiple events within a few weeks I stopped by the next day to see if it really was this restaurant because they had been great in the planning. It was, they closed up and I had to scramble to find another spot to host 30 people in 2 days. I understand that sometimes things happen that are out of your control, but they should’ve called me to let me know.

BEWARE PULSD USERS ⚠️: If you buy a voucher for this place, they will charge you an insane amount for "tax and tip". We bought a $40 brunch deal for 2, which included an entree each + 2 drinks, absolute max value of $76. The norm is that they charge you tax on that $40, but the bill we got claimed a $120 value that they charged tax and a mandatory 20% gratuity on. There is no way that this deal could ever be worth that much, nor would I ever tip that much with the below average level of service we got. Paid just as much at the restaurant as we did in advance for the "deal". To add to this, we reserved a table in the"garden" patio area – when we got there we were told "sorry, it's not open" even though it's enclosed and it was a beautiful day. No advance notice whatsoever.

This place went down. The new bartender doesn’t know how to make drinks, and I tried to be understanding and patient but no. Everything was amiss. And the bartender needs to up his skills in customer service. Literally had to flag him down, never checked in. Made faces. As of he’s doing me a favor to make a drink. I’m never coming back. The food runners were much better.

Made a brunch reservation for a small party, for a surprise birthday party For my girlfriend. Showed up to find a sign on the door saying “temporarily closed” Extremely, exceptionally poor management of a restaurant. Would have been simple to just access reservations and send out cancellations. Luckily a nearby restaurant was able to accommodate, and food / service was much better than anything I ever experienced at Black Ant. I hope this clown show of an excuse for a restaurant stays closed, for the greater good.
