Whether it be the food, service or the price - it is perfect! 34$ for a very good meal for two.
It is, in fact, right next to Wo Hop. I appreciate the clarity in their name. Was not misled, felt very at home. My friend was a water FIEND for some reason and kept drinking the water, so I apologize belatedly for her consumption. But five stars on all fronts, would visit again.
No, wait! We were craving quick, delicious food, and they only accepted cash. Everyone was delighted with the egg rolls—they were surprisingly crispy and not greasy at all. As soon as we settled in, they promptly brought us tea, water, and those delectable crunchy noodles with their delectable dipping sauces. The soup was a fantastic start to our meal.
Wo Hop Next Door is the sister restaurant to Wo Hop. It is a cash only establishment. I went with my office colleagues and was immediately drawn to the fried wonton "chips" with the sweet tangy sauce it is addicting! The Oolong tea, was delightful! We ordered a number of items to share: The beef and broccoli (delicious), the special fried rice (yummy), chicken and broccoli, the chicken was tender and the sauce....amazing! Egg rolls, fried porkchops (my least favorite, drenched in sauce with a spongy consistency) and shrimp with garlic sauce. There is also a set menu for larger groups for an excellent price. The service was top tier! The wait staff was attentive, ensure we had refills and even provided watermelon to end the meal. The food was fresh and delicious! I will definitely go back!
this place is my family’s go-to spot. they serve authentic cantonese dishes with good portions and great flavors. they also have two separate menus: one in chinese and the other in english. each menu is slightly different and has slightly different dishes. the english menu has much more americanized dishes like fried rice and noodles. the chinese menu are larger dishes for family style and you would eat with rice. menu highlights: cantonese style lobster, meat patty with salted egg yolk, veggies in broth, and stir fried razor clams.
Super good and affordable Chinese food. Referred here by a friend that used to live in the city and it definitely delivered. Every dish we got tasted good and clean, no weird after taste or anything like that. Portions in the restaurant were extremely generous (enough to share between 2-3 ppl minimum) and did I mention the prices were very reasonable. Definitely will be going back whenever I make it back in town again to try some more things. FYI it’s cash only.
Affordable, very efficient and friendly sister-restaurant of the crazy popular Wo Hop situated next door. Cash only. Beer $5. After waiting 10 minutes in the queue next door with the family we decided to jump to next door. Same owners and a slightly smaller menu but with most of the classics. Enjoyed it all, especially the Beef with garlic, fried dumplings & noodles. Evening finished off with a sliced orange; fortune cookies and a reasonable bill with reasonable 16% tip added.
Today we took the A line from Far Rockaway straight into Chinatown to get some real Chinese cuisine. Guess what, y’all? No border pass needed 😄 We originally came for Wo Hop, but the line was a bit long. Luckily, Wo Hop Next Door welcomed us immediately and seated us right away. We ordered hot tea, beef fried rice, and beef with onions and peppers. The fried rice came in a healthy portion with great texture—eggs scrambled throughout and light sprinkles of vegetables. The beef with onions and peppers was full of flavor and cooked in a delicious, savory broth. Heads up: the restaurant is cash only, so my digital babies—come prepared. The service was no-nonsense but fast and efficient, exactly what you want in a spot like this. 9/10 recommend. Way better than your local Chinese joint—this one’s worth the trip.
We arrived around 4:30pm and waited in line 15 minutes. Then we were taken to a different line... one for small groups (we were only 2). Small groups were seated upstairs, large groups went down stairs. I don't know what its like down there but I did overhear a local insisting his group wanted to eat downstairs. Simple setting, good food, waiter a bit abrupt and pushy, but not too the point of being offensive (just being NY).
There are some good dishes and some ok dishes. The fish filet with tofu was delicious as hell, a highlights of the lunch, and so was the fresh pork w. String beans(delicious, but little compared to other places), the squid salt and pepper was good, the Peking pork chops was another great dish, crispy enough and still tender and juicy, and still be able other grab some flavor of the Peking sauce. The fremented bean curds w. ong choy(water spinach) was blan(as usual). The beef w. Eggplant with spicy sauce, turned into just Eggplant with spicy sauce😤. It was ok. The garlic chicken could have been fried longer, I mean it was still soft, not crunchy at all. The pork curry with chow fun, was actually roast pork with curry tomatoes w. chow fun(was ok, it was a little sour, and curry sauce, not sweet, or not salty. It was Mediocre). It's funny some dishes wasn't even in the menu, but it's in most restaurants. Since this is a café catering more to tourists, and English people. It was surprising some dishes turned out spectacularly. The service was ok, the atmosphere couldn't really tell much since we were seated near the stair, so tightly packed and when I turned my head to see my surroundings, my head knocked into the board of the stairs. Also the stair to the bathroom was really too close to the wall could hardly use it as a handle for the stairs. The bathroom stall and pretty tight any body over 254 lbs might be in trouble trying to use the toilet. It was a very tight space. The toilets paper was 3 ply. For the special day soft shell crabs $19.95, and pigeons is $25.95
UPDATE: I thought that we were at the ACTUAL WO HOP RESTAURANT. We were actually at THE WO HOP NEXT DOOR. Which is at 15 Mott st. THEY ARE DIFFERENT. Now I see why no one was hardly in the restaurant and they rushed to get us in the door and seated. SHAME ON WO HOP NEXT DOOR FOR TAKING ADVANTAGE OF CUSTOMER WHO Don’t KNOW THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. 1/12/26 @ 5pm DISCRIMINATION ALERT‼️ So let me start off by saying that my parents use to take me here as a child to eat. This is the first time I have been back since childhood. I live in another state now, 10 hours away, but I am in NY this week visiting family and thought I would eat here to bring back good memories. The staff is very friendly, attentive and welcoming. The restaurant is very clean. I’m giving 1-stars because the food had no flavor. And I have a few other concerns. The food came out hot and fresh and looking great. But it was disappointing. Also, they are way overpriced for the quality of food you get and the lack of taste. I don’t mind paying more money if the food is good. But you’re better off to go to your local corner store Chinese restaurant for better food. Also, everything is A La carte. Lastly, it was strange that when they gave us our bill. They crossed out the TOTAL with a pen and wrote in and extra $10. That made no sense. We have no idea what the write-in fee was for. But maybe it was for the TIP??? And they did not do this to Everyone. It was like they targeted certain people, and added a tip/ fee to their bill. I think that they think that certain people will not leave tips, so they use a pen to write in the tip on the bill. We were going to tip anyway, so I kind of feel like they have DISHONEST/ DISCRIMINATORY practices. It hurts that a place that brings back so many good childhood memories is now very questionable.
