Baby Acapulco is known for its lively atmosphere and potent Purple Margarita. Many reviewers praise the attentive service, especially mentioning servers Abby, Marleni, and Roger. Some find the restaurant a bit run-down, but the food is generally well-received.

Lively, big location of local Tex Mex chain. This place has several diving rooms and a large bar surrounded by stools. I enjoyed the large chicken tortilla soup, which comes with two tortillas and a plate of things to mix in. Their happy hour ends at 6pm. They have a large free parking lot and there is more parking across the street. There is also a covered drop off for hot or rainy days.
this austin classic is still so good!! everyone goes for the margaritas but the food was soooooo good. i hadn’t been in years and im glad i did. wish they had more locations still. the mini sopaipillas were out of this world!
My absolute favorite place in Austin! As an original Austinite, I’d definitely say Baby A’s is a must try. Ask for the Superman margarita
Went to Baby A's to meet up with friends at the bar! We had a great time! Our bartender Carolyn was awesome! The bar was crazy busy but she stayed on top of taking care of us! Definitely coming back for some more of them purple margaritas!
The group playing was great! Will come back with friends to hear the group and have some margaritas! Our waiter RogerV. was also great also!
Once again - the queso, margaritas, flautas and Clarita’s chicken were all on point. Everything tasted fresh, drinks were ice cold, food was piping hot and service was great.
I have been coming here for years, and I had the pleasure of introducing my friend to Baby A’s a few days ago. He had never been before and he was very impressed. He really enjoyed the food. Baby A’s has the best margaritas, the Superman or Purple is my favorite!! I love the queso and the chicken quesadilla. Everyone should check this place out!!
While the actual place is falling apart, food and service are solid. Has an authentic feel to it. Lovely patio as well. Live band on the outside stage every Saturday I believe. Usually classic rock, 80s. Only place with a regular live band in northwest Austin as far as I know. Every time I've seen a band up there they have been outstanding.
Everything about this place is good. The service is outstanding. Complimentary chips and salsa, and they’re very aware of when you need refills. We had tacos and relleno, flan and cheesecake, as well as a couple of flavored margaritas. It is a MUST to visit when you’re in Austin.
Visited Sat @6pm for dinner and drinks with friends. Was an approx 30 minute wait, but actually took about 45 min to a table. This place was hopping! The hostess informed us they were short staffed and had 2 large parties going on. But was very positive and attentive despite the busyness. Once seated drinks and apps surprisingly arrived very quickly! Took a little while for waitress to make her rounds and come back to take our order, but after that the dinner came out fresh, hot, and super quick!! Everything was on point, food was delicious, drinks were perfect... Our waitress was running around crazy but very polite and didn't miss a thing! We were impressed and satisfied! Was well worth thr wait!! Also the Mexican candy shot is well worth $8.50! Salsa was super fresh and tasty! Highly recommend this place!
We selected Baby A's for a special event (~50 people). Had pre-selected the menu, and had an open bar. Everything was PERFECT. I don't know how Roger (our assigned Server) kept up with the drink requests, but he did! Carolyn made sure the plan was ready to execute and she and Roger stayed on top of the food too. THANK YOU for making our event extra special!
I looove Baby A's. Really casual, great prices, good Tex-Mex. Drinks are strong and decently priced, especially during happy hour. The Mexican Martini in the shaker bottle is probably the best bang for your buck, plus the street tacos are about $7 (plate comes with three). The free salsa has a delicious flavor, but it's a bit spicy 🔥 so keep your drink handy! Their frozen margaritas are delicious, too. Just tried the tropical flight recently (the one in the pic) to try a few flavors I don't normally get. 10/10 would drink again. There's a large patio area with wooden picnic style seating, an indoor patio with large windows, an inside sports-bar-esque area with plenty of large TV's, and another, more secluded area by the a fireplace. Super convenient location near the Arboretum. PLENTY of parking (if the lot is full, the garage is available too). I'm a fan!
Most go here for the purple margaritas. I had the Al Pastor tacos and they were outstanding!! I really liked the fact that they had my favorite kind of hot sauce for my tacos.
Love this place. Usually have our lunch outings here. Highly recommend The purple drink.. yes that's the name.. or the Superman. Carmen was my waitress. She's amazing and very helpful
I don't ever write reviews, but the manager at this location was very professional and patient with me. I can be a little bossy, but he was great! We will definitely be back.
We held a very last minute Shower/Gender Reveal at this location. We ordered the catered Nacho’s, and others ordered individual food and drinks. The food was awesome and the service matched. Allyson did an amazing job taking care of the needs of all of our guests!! Carolyn….I can not thank you enough for your kindness, patience, responsiveness, and flexibility!! We appreciate you and your staff so much for helping to make this event amazing and memorable.
Carolyn had excellent service that exceeded expectations. I appreciate her and the staff at BabyAs. Thanks!
The shrimp enchiladas are delish, love the mexican martini, nachos and the frozen margs 👍👍
One of the best Tex-Mex restaurants that I've ever eaten at. And I have eaten at a bunch of them. All. The food was great.
I enjoyed the food and company tonight at Baby A’s! I tried their famous strong purple margarita and I wasn’t feeling it (tasted like grape dimetapp, in my opinion). I may have to try the Superman marg next time. I got a regular frozen, some queso and also the Brisas Bowl with grilled shrimp, avocado, and a sweet habanero sauce. The puffy tacos also look good! It’s a popular spot with a few locations around Austin.
Of course the purples are fabulous!! Andrea does a terrific job and the food is yummy 😋!!
While I only had the chips and salsa (and some drinks) when I was there, the salsa was great! Just the right amount of flavor and heat. Service staff were very polite!
This place is great. We were staying at the Hyatt (in the same parking lot) and walked over because it was convenient. I'm glad we did. The food was delicious; very generous portions, and very reasonably priced. Our server, Roger, was very personable and very attentive. Thank you so much for having us. We'll definitely be back if visiting Austin again.
We love very close by and have heard some great leads from friends that the margaritas are well worth it. I can say with certainty that they live up to the hype! I was able to take in two Purple Rita's while my girlfriend had an Earth Rita. The 2x limit on the Purple makes sense. We also had some queso and al pastor tacos. The tortilla chips were served warm and the queso was good enough to want to scrape the sides of the bowl with a spoon to get as much out of it as possible! We'll definitely be coming back again. Also.. love the attention to detail and atmosphere with the intricate paintings on the HVAC systems. They made an eyesore into something great!
Went here for a girls' lunch date, and the food was amazing! Huge portions, fresh and hot too! I ordered the puffy tacos with chicken because I don't eat red meat, and unfortunately, they got my order wrong. I asked my waiter for a new order and why, then without hesitation, took the plate and brought me a whole new plate with the correct order on it. My friend ordered an alcoholic drink and it didn't disappoint either! Super strong and delicious as well. The next time we are in this area we will definitely be back!
I popped in at about 930 pm on a Friday. They're open until 11 on Friday but it felt like everything was winding down. The chips were warm and the salsa had a nice spicy bite. I ordered the shredded beef sopes and the shredded chicken puffy tacos. The sopes were well made with generous toppings and good flavor. The green salsa made the dish though, and I don't think it would have been as good without it. The puffy tacos were pretty good, too, with standard Tex-Mex queso flavor. The rice was great and the beans were ok. Service was solid with my server checking in and refilling my water without feeling overbearing. I did notice a faint scent of greasy bleach water a couple times. It's walkable from the hotel I stay at while in Austin so I'll be back in future trips.
We sat out on the patio. Jordan waited on us. The food, comprised of flautas and puffy tacos was excellent. The margaritas here are just excellent! Jordan made the evening fun. We spoke to his manager afterwards to give Jordan kudos. Altogether a fun!
Sat at the bar and service was phenomenal. Food and drinks were 10/10 but felt the need to rate the atmosphere lower not because of the staff but because of the couple sitting next to us at the bar. My husband and I are older and frequent Baby A’s mid afternoon because it’s usually pretty quiet. We always sit at the bar. A couple came in about 25-30 minutes shy of happy hour. They looked young so the bartender asked for ID’s. The man said he did not have his ID and offered a picture of it in his phone. The bartender politely informed him that that would not suffice due to policy. That set them off. As the bartender exited the bar area they began to make fun of the bartender’s appearance, race and weight. Ultimately the manager was called over after this couple didn’t get what they were wanted. Thankfully the manager backed her employee and the customers finally left. It’s time for establishments to start banning clientele that behave this way. Nobody wants to see or hear that type of behavior. Great job to the bartender for never losing her cool and being professional during the entire encounter. We will be back as we love our Baby A’s excursions and the service we get from Andrea every time. Management is always so polite and welcoming every time as well. Thank you Baby A’s for all the good times! Please don’t go anywhere anytime soon .
Jordan waited on us and was one of the best servers we’ve had in a long time! Puffy tacos and queso were on point! Perfect Friday night. Do yourself a favor and ask to sit in Jordan’s section.
We had a big group meet here for lunch and it was such a great experience! The food was delicious, the staff were all so kind, and our server Abby was very friendly and helpful! Thanks for making our afternoon so lovely!
🌮 Baby Acapulco’s Review – Austin’s Colorful, Tequila-Fueled Fiesta Spot 💜 If you’re in Austin and haven’t been to Baby Acapulco’s (aka Baby A’s), are you even living your best life? This spot is a local legend — a little bit retro, a whole lotta fun, and home to some of the most dangerously delicious drinks and comfort Tex-Mex you’ll find in the city. Let’s start with the puffy tacos — because, wow. Crispy, airy shells that practically melt when you bite into them, stuffed with juicy, perfectly seasoned meat and topped with fresh lettuce, tomato, and cheese. They’re light, crunchy, and somehow comforting and indulgent all at once. Basically, it’s a hug in taco form. Now for the real star of the show: the Purple Margarita. This iconic drink isn’t just Insta-worthy — it’s Austin-famous for a reason. It’s sweet, tangy, a little mysterious, and packs just enough of a punch to make you forget your to-do list. Pro tip: one is plenty (trust me, they don’t play around). The vibe? Classic Austin — bright colors, chill crowd, and a “come-as-you-are” energy. Whether you’re wrangling a group of out-of-towners, showing your besties what Austin’s all about, or just craving that perfect combo of tacos and tequila, Baby A’s hits every note. ✅ Great food ✅ Legendary drinks ✅ Killer patio ✅ Pure Austin charm Bottom line: Baby Acapulco’s is the kind of place that reminds you why people fall in love with this city. Bring your friends, grab a purple marg, and thank me later. 💜🍹 Would you like me to make it sound more like a Google review (short and punchy) or keep it like this — more blog-style and chatty?
We recently hosted a client appreciation event at Baby Acapulco on Stonelake Blvd, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. Carolyn, the General Manager, was incredibly accommodating, and Marleni, our server, provided top-notch service throughout the entire event. The food was amazing, the service was seamless, and the atmosphere was perfect for connecting with our clients in a fun, relaxed setting. Carolyn and her team made sure everything went smoothly, and it truly made a lasting impression on our guests. Highly recommend Baby A’s for anyone planning a professional event with a personal touch. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
We are visiting Austin for the weekend and this restaurant is right by our hotel. We went for lunch on a 100+ degree day so we sat inside, but the outdoor seating area looks so fun! We were greeted immediately and sat down and received our waters and chips/salsa. Both delicious! I ordered grilled fish tacos and it was so good and fresh! My husband had the taco salad and loved it! The waitress was very friendly and charming. I hope we are able to visit this place again!
The Purple Rita's are a must-have if you like sweet drinks! The salads were amazing. We had the nicest server for lunch and the bartender near closing (yes, we went twice in a day) were both wonderful. A must visit restaurant for sure! They do have a numbering system on drinks to ensure you do not drink too much. Great time, lots of different seating options, and sometimes there is a band.
Fabulous customer service in english or spanish. Puffy tacos and queso unlike any others, purple margarita, piña colada, hot tortillas... yum. Jordi took great care of us, answering all our questions about ingredients to keep us safe from food sensitivities. The bartender happily.Let me look at the ingredients before I ordered a mixed drink. They made me feel welcome. Even though I know it can be demanding with so many questions and customizations to an order.
The purple marg is a must. I have no idea what's in it but u do know this, you can only get two and that's for good reason. I had the Enchiladas Verde and they were good. The server was attentive a…
The one in Barton springs used to be a favorite haunt during school days, that closed down and moved into a secluded corner next to Gateway area, with a nice ambiance. However, the menu seemed to have shrunk, and my favorite chile rellenos was not there (google menu is inaccurate, said the manager), so I settled for Sopes (corn cakes) which were ok. I was alone, but might come back with company for their margaritas.
This was my first visit upon recommendation by a friend. The location I originally went to was on Howard Lane in Austin Texas, but it was permanently closed. I had good service, and my food came out relatively quickly. It wasn't too busy at the time I went, which was on a Thursday evening.I got the Helen's combo plate, which, comes with an enchilada, puffy taco rice and a soup. And for my drink I superman margarita; it was really strong 👌🏾 well worth it. The chips and Salsa were really good. My food was ok. Nothing special really. My enchilada was really salty. However, I had plenty of food on my plate, they give you a good portion of food and the price wasn't too bad. I would come back and try something else. I'm not big on Mexican food, even though I live in Texas but, I do love nachos and crispy tacos, so I'll try that next time! It's in a nice area and they have outdoor seating and live music in certain days. It's nice hangout spot with friends.
I love that you can see live bands out back, but I wasn't allowed to order a drink from the bar and was told to wait for my server on the patio. This would have been okay if the wait wasn't so long, and with the heat it was pretty unpleasant. It took about 45 minutes or longer to get my food. I was overcharged on my bill and I had to ask multiple times for a resolution. I felt bad for my server as he was very nice and I didn't feel like this was his fault. He wouldn't let me tip him in the end because he felt so bad. Normally, I wouldn't return due to the wait and mixup but I like the location and the entertainment. Please keep booking the classic rock/pop bands. Ponzo Scheme was outstanding!!
Great food, great ambiance and great margaritas! The purple Marg is the bomb! Staff was very attentive. Will definitely be back.
Nice local restaurant made for decent dining. We had a bunch of appetizers for a group dinner. The wings were surprisingly spicy but that's what you get in Texas. Everything else was tasty and the special drinks were great too. The purple liquor drink that I can't think of the name will def sneak up on you. Be careful.
Food is great. But clean your windows there is food, fingers prints on them its gross people!
This is a great Mexican food restaurant but I was surprised that there were so few customers. This place is a little obscure and off the beaten path but go find it because it’s worth the trip. The drinks were delicious and the food was good. I liked the vibe but disappointed that three of the really cool T-shirt’s that I wanted were not available.
I had a Purple and a Fajita Steak Taco Salad, my cousin had queso and Tortilla soup. All of the food was great and the drink was hittin like always. My only complaint is I don't remember my Purple being $11 and I thought almost $20 for a taco salad that was filled with lettuce was not really worth it.
I stopped at Baby As during a slow time but this place looks really fun and festive when it's packed. The chips were good, the salsa was good, the enchiladas were good, the rice and beans were good, and the service was great. I know everybody likes something different but personally I wasn't blown away with any of the food. Not necessarily large portions and I still don't know why there's celery in the beef. Nice restaurant though.
The food is good. The beer selection has one craft beer. The waiter did not understand what craft beer is. Service tonight was good. Other times here is has been horrible. Guess we got a better waiter.
Sweet surprise to have this gem. Friends and I had food and drinks here and shout out to our server Roger who was very attentive and made sure our table was attended to. Best mango margarita I had! You can choose indoors and outdoors but it was hot and the indoors felt like outdoors without the heat since we were sat next to a window with huge tree! My friends had the purple drink and hit the spot for her ;). The food: we had pastor bowl, fish tacos, and shrimp bowl with avocado and free chips and salsa. Fresh and yummy. Mind you, I'm picky with food! They do have military discount!!! Recommended chill place for family and friends!!!
June 1, 2024 On this visit the food and the service by our ne waitress was really good. JP had his regular shrimp Enchiladas plate, and I tried something different. I tried the Carne Guisada plate and substituted the Mexican rice for a salad instead, and it was very delicious.😋 The only drawback and complaint we have is this: the Stonelake BA location seems to be falling apart in some areas, because the AC vent above our booth dropped condensation on JP's seat while we were dining, and I asked for a towel to be placed next to him. After we were seated at this booth, even our neighbors warned 'the wait staff' and us that that's exactly why they were no longer sitting in the booth we were given. We would've moved, but as we looked around the restaurant, the open and occupied booths in the circular dining area had the same issue, accept their vents were located above the actual tables, and our particular was located above the actual seat. Plus, when we walked in, there were several wood planks that had been removed and laying in front of a large hole in the wall at the customers entrance. Thank God! it dripped at the beginning and end, but not during our meal. Nevertheless, this should be UNACCEPTABLE. *** BA, Listen, when I, your repeat customer, say, "Baby A's chips are outstanding, and better than all restaurants in the Austin Metroplex." My husband and I don't expect that to change on our next visit, April 25, 2024. Please check your chips daily before setting a clump of chips on your customer's table. See the picture. **** The Enchiladas Verde Veggie, mushrooms, or shrimp are still our go-to plates. Even though the Howard Lane location has been indefinitely closed, it's still possible to enjoy the ambiance, music, and food at the Stonelake Arboretum location. We suggest they DECREASE the s🧂lt as much as possible to keep us returning for more deliciousness. FYI: N🚫 restaurant in the Austin Metroplex can beat Baby A's chips and salsa. Just forget about it!
The table salsa that comes with the chips are good but the salsa are like the can salsa. As we stoped by the outside hosted area we were not treated as employees walked by. We decided to go inside and employees walked by and did not great us or try to sit us. After 5 minutes a older gentleman helped seat us. Then Juan took our order. He was pleasant. The Jerry burrito has nacho cheese sauce. It was ok and as described. I would prefer melted cheese but it was still good. My wife liked her enchilada but didn't care for the rice. The food comments are our preference and I didn't lower the stars due to the food. I lowered do to 6 different employees walking by and not greeting or helping us sit. The sign was up to wait to be seated.
I ordered a white wine sangria and they brought me glass of frozen glop withe some red wine pored on it. No fruit and lacked style. The fried stuff avocado looked more like leftover meatloaf. It tasted ok. Our waitress was pleasant. We had to send someone to find here so we could pay the bill. The location is convenient. The setting is pleasant.
Honestly, the food was meh. There is probably better Mexican food out there. My drink was awful! I had a strawberry lime margarita and it tasted like dish soap mixed with chemicals. My friends seemed to enjoy their drinks but only went for one round. I found a bone in my chicken taco, but shout out to the manager who came right over to make things right. They make their own chicken and debone it themselves, hence the bone, but I was too afraid to keep eating. The manager ended up taking it off our bill, which I appreciated. We walked there from our hotel which shares a parking lot, but for the convenience, I would not go back.
I would give this place a 5 star for their food. The service wasn’t so great. Me and my best friend went on a Monday and the service took almost a hour for us to check out after placing a Baby A’s soup to-go. The salsa lady was wonderful and made sure we had chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. Most likely under staffed on Monday’s, food was great to me overall.
Enjoyed the Mexican martini and sat outside the waiter was great...the burrito looked like it had been warmed up in a microwave. The cheese looked like it had cling wrap on it with a shiny layer and the middle wasn't even that warm. Just broke it up and ate the good meat pieces but very disappointing. chips and salsa was solid though.
The food and drinks were decent, but this restaurant has seen better days. While most of the restaurant was dimly lit, some parts of the restaurant were dark and seemingly abandoned. The building itself felt a little run down. It feels like whoever owns this place lost their passion for it. Probably won’t be back.

When we pulled up, we thought it was closed, but they also go off a point system . We were staying at the hotel and ubered there. The point system was 1 point per drink, and you could not have more than 6 points. Margaritas were 3 points, so you could only have 2, very disappointing. We were at the bar, and three different people left because they were all cut off due to the point system. Will not come back
The food is way over priced. The margarita is twice or more than any other place I've had a Rita. The margarita was good but 14 dollars for one glass is nuts. They are way over priced.
It is run down the food is not good and, on a Wednesday evening, there were only a few diners and a few people at the bar. The bar tender was nice but. With all the good Mexican food in Austin, go elsewhere.
Please remind me not to go when the owner (older women) is there. I come here several times a week to unwind after long days. Yes, there has been a change since serifin has left. We live very close by and love supporting local. Everyone has quit because the owner is horrible and doesn't care about anything, but her self. She treats the employees bad. I had a puff taco that was bad and she brought it back to me and said that was just made. Which is wasn't the chip was stale and not good. She made a huge scene and it's bad when the employee are apologizing for lack of customer service skills. I feel bad for all the employees. Some employees even said thank you for speaking up and putting her in her place. There is a special place for rude, selfish, and ignorant people like her.
I just left this restaurant I was told by the bartender that the owner now takes off a half of inch of drink off the purple margaritas. This lady is so greedy the purple is 13.50 and now she made a new rule to make the drinks a finger short. I will never return. And she wonders why she does not get customers I cannot stand her and will never return she sucks
No service outside due to only having three servers. WTH, we could not even get a cocktail. We were told that there was a 45 minute wait when we got there. We were told we could go out to see the band and would be called when a table came open. After an hour that still hadn't happened. Meanwhile other patrons were being sat and served as they got there. My partner spoke to the the manager that was pretty rude. We were finally served but not after unnecessary wait and bad customer service. The food was not particularly tasty either.
Worst experience ever. Food was absolutely disgusting. Not even sure why this location is open. Waitress brought over plates for my husband and I that were dirty. Not a little dirty like my water cup I refused to touch. But full on queso was left on them. She sort of apologized for it but it wasn't enough. The purple margarita.. was pretty good. But spending $60 plus including a good tip was NOT worth pretty good. I couldn't even eat the food. Table was dirty. Seats were dirty. Not many customers should equal a clean restaurant. Total waist of time and money that I can never get back.
Pretty unpleasant experience, slow service, waiters seemed like they didn’t want to be there. Used to love this place, seems like things are going down hill.
Drinks are good, but they never have the wings that are on the Happy Hour Menu.. I hadn't been to Baby A's in over a year so I decided to go again, but of course no wings. The waitress said they only make a certain amount for the week and they are normally gone by Wednesday. I'm highly confused as to why even after multiple locations closing, the amount of prepared wings don't match the demand or customer volume.. The person responsible for inventory is highly ineffective, and bad for business.
this place seems like it would have good vibes in theory, however a women literally stared me down during my entire visit. i later found out it was the owner. why is the owner staring me down? very unprofessional. the only thing that made me feel comfortable was the sweet bartender jordy
Me and a friend sat at the bar and the woman serving us was HORRIBLE!! Heavyset older Caucasian woman she worked in the daytime went during Happy hour!! I had one Purple Rita and I tried to buy a jug to go she said I couldn’t purchase the jug because I already had one drink!! My friend didnt drink and when he tried to purchase the jug she gave another excuse to why she couldn’t let us have it !! Just lying making stuff up as she went then tried to charge $70 for the jug!!!needless to say she was giving us a hard time and rude !!! Shes very lucky we were being cordial because she definetly deserved a mouth full !!! She needs to be fired
Tried to get a drink at the bar before our table arrived and they told us we couldn’t get a table if we drank anything before they got there. So we decided to get a drink and leave and the manager, Arturo, came to us at the bar and was like “aw, yall are leaving?” We had a table for 7 and because of their policy we left. I’ve never been treated like that at a restaurant before.
Horrible customer service! We went there on a Saturday night around 9 pm, and the crew looked frustrated and mad. We asked for a table, and the waiters kept walking past us. We asked someone else, and he was the manager who told us they were not going to be able to serve us because they were too busy. He said that out loud and very rude. There were barely any people there. We waited and asked if we could sit at the bar and the waiter came back more unprofessional and told us that it wasnt going to happen because they were too busy. We had never been treated with such disrespect. We left the restaurant to go celebrate somewhere else. We were so disappointed!
Absolutely ridiculous. Ordered a burrito online, came with no sauce on the burrito. Asked for a refund for the burrito but because it was ordered online they couldn’t do a refund. Offered a free meal which I declined, we wont be coming back. Terrible customer service. Terrible order experience. No parking for curbside pickup. Manager then went on to explain that because we ordered a sauce that is not typically on the burrito that’s why they got confused. Needless to say the burrito does not taste good without sauce. Complete waste of money.
