i LOVE this speakeasy and i try to stop by anytime im in Austin amazing drinks, brilliant atmosphere, and love the name of it
Came for new Year's Eve. First off, you have to have a password to get in. Luckily we had a regular who invited us out and had said password. Once inside you are great with a bar and swings. Seating is first come first serve. You are encouraged to use any open spot.. Right away we had a staff bring us water and menus. We took a moment to check everything out and landed on woo girl, trix are not for kids and beanwild rotational and a spice margherita. After that round we had a round of mimosas with a st. Germain floater. Fantastic. This place is fun and the new manager came by and made sure we where good to go. Staff was super friendly and the music kicked as from the DJ. You will have to work to earn the password from what I'm told but once you do there is a news letter to keep you up to date. Check out Floppy Disk repair Co.
Best place in Austin!! My friends n I stumbled upon this place while trying to find a bar that wasn’t packed on a Monday. Awesome concept and killer music. Menu was hilarious, and bartender was super accommodating. Had the best penicillin here, and it was on the house too! Bartenders are super passionate, will definitely come again when I’m in town!
Visited Austin for a work trip and wanted to visit this special place based on recommendations from co-workers. You have to have the special code to get in, but once you find it and punch it in you enter a magical bar with delicious cocktails. Just be warned the drink names are quite “interesting” so keep an open mind.
Very not the theme you would think but Jennifer was so awesome and caring would definitely stop by here again love the atmosphere the vibes super awesome n chill and again Jennifer is awesome bartender
LOVE THIS PLACE! Fun drinks, cool atmosphere, great spot! The drinks all have fun names and they are really good. The service is awesome, friendly and funny staff.
Speakeasy Horror Review: Floppy Disc, Austin, TX By: Your Favorite Bloody-Minded Boozehound If a haunted house, a dive bar, and your darkest sense of humor had a love child—it would be Floppy Disc. And that child would be weird, sticky, unhinged, and absolutely perfect. This place is every horror fan’s wet dream—literally and metaphorically. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by an unholy army of creepy dolls and teddy bears staring at you with the dead-eyed judgment of something that definitely saw what you did last summer. Oh, and casually lurking in the corner? A full-on sheep’s head wearing Hannibal Lecter’s muzzle. Because apparently “Silence of the Lambs” jokes are not only encouraged—they’re taxidermied. Let’s talk cocktails. The menu reads like a raunchy fanfic between Freddy Krueger and a bachelorette party. I nearly ordered one of everything just for the names. “Bloody Rim Job,” “Midsommargarita,” and “Satan’s Backwash”? Who’s writing this? Satan’s bartender? Give that person a raise and maybe a light exorcism. But what really made me lose my mind—and possibly my bladder—was the women’s bathroom. Picture this: walls covered in smeared blood, “REDRUM” scrawled across the mirror, and the pièce de résistance—an axe handle on the bathroom door like you just Jack Torranced your way into salvation. I felt more emotionally seen than I ever have in therapy. Floppy Disc isn’t just a bar. It’s a chaotic shrine to horror, humor, and hedonism. If you’re the kind of person who’d swipe right on Beetlejuice, sleep next to a Chucky doll, or decorate your house with Ouija boards and cocktail napkins—this is your mothership. Rating: 666/10. Would sell my soul for another round. If you’re a freak like me, Sloppy Disc isn’t just a recommendation—it’s a bloody rite of passage.
Fun place to hang out in if you can get in. Arrived around 6pm on a Friday and there were only 2 people here. Has a little bit of a horror spooky vibe and fun drinks and menu to read. Tix are not for kids was certainly the most interesting and unique drink we had. Take your time to read the menu and try some of the most outlandish things you can find. There are some fun group drinks on the later pages that would be worth a try if you have a bigger group.
An amazing speakeasy. The name is incredible, and the interior is radically different. Behind the racy drink names lie some incredible flavor and obvious skill among the bartenders. The atmosphere is happening - a compact space that's packed and incredibly loud, but an amazing evening.
"Wonderful cocktails in a rad environment" First thing to know, this is a pass coded speakeasy, and the code does change often. I'd recommend going to a nearby saloon and treating the bartender real nice, and maybe they'll help you out with getting an invite. Drinks were absolutely top notch here, with hilarious names and descriptions. Prices were around 15$ a drink. There is a happy hour until ~6pm with $10 cocktails. Highly recommend coming during happy hour. Staff were all super friendly and we will definitely return!
Super cool (smallish) dive bar/speakeasy w/ above average drinks (and price). Killer (and varied) playlist from the speakers w/ attentive service. Buy a drink next door at El Cockfight and grab the code to get in!
I don’t know if I’m just not in the know and everyone is aware of the vibes, but it definitely was a surprise when my friend said this was a speakeasy and it turned out to be a horror themed bar on the inside. There’s body bags and random man sized dolls on chairs. The drink themes are funny and cool and the swings and vibe is cool for photos. However, the music is exceptionally loud for such a tiny place and not an actual club.
We had an awesome time here last Friday night except that the guy at the door was aggressively rude and condescending. Otherwise everyone else was incredibly nice! Drinks were great, vibe was awesome, and the DJ was so cool! Would return and would speak to guy at door as little as possible lol
If Valerie is working make sure to stop in. She is the only one working there with a positive attitude. Including the door man. Avoid otherwise.. I guess not everyone understands the correlation between revenue and hospitality!!!
Waited quite a while for drinks on a dead Wednesday night. Mine was fine but my buddy couldn’t finish his. We snagged the code from the website easy enough. It was way more fun to get access than to actually be inside. Really expensive for the drinks that were ok.
Homophobic establishment. Went pee with a buddy and they kicked us out. Nothing inappropriate happened was in the restroom for maybe 90 seconds and they made us leave.
The Soul of Floppy Disk Is Gone If you’re looking for the old Floppy Disk in Austin… don’t bother. It doesn’t exist anymore. The new ownership has completely nuked everything that made this place special. First off, getting rid of the OG bartenders was the worst mistake they could’ve made. Those people were the identity, the attitude, the heartbeat of the bar. They remembered faces, they knew how to read a crowd, they kept the energy tight. Now? You’re lucky if the new staff can make eye contact, let alone a proper drink. The music? Absolute trash. Whatever playlist they’re running sounds like a red-headed stepchild version of somebody’s “quirky dive bar” Pinterest board. It’s bland, awkward, and sucks every ounce of vibe out of the room. This used to be a spot where you walked in and immediately felt plugged into something—now it feels like a waiting room with liquor. And the energy… man, it’s just gone. The whole place feels drained, like they unplugged the soul and left the shell standing. No vibe, no personality, no spark. Just a bar trying way too hard without understanding what made it great in the first place. If you loved the old Floppy Disk, prepare to be disappointed. The new management took something authentic and vibrant and somehow managed to strip it into complete nothingness. RIP to an Austin staple. The takeover absolutely ruined it.
I’m reviewing as a speakeasy and it misses on so many levels. If I was reviewing as a dive bar, my rating would be much better. The floppy disk company/redheaded stepchild speakeasy, (which is the same bar) in Austin was a huge disappointment. I’d even say it’s not even a speakeasy themed bar, if it wasn’t for the secret code to enter. That is actually the best part of this speakeasy. It is a well kept secret and you either have to know someone who will give you a code or sign up to receive a code via text. When I went, I requested the code the day of and when I showed up the code didn’t work. There was someone else there who said that code was from last month, although I went on the 16th. Once inside, it’s just a regular dive bar with loud music and expensive but poorly and cheaply made drinks. This was a sore spot because you usually pay more for a craft cocktail from a mixologist. This place charged easy prices for a regular well drink you would get at a shot bar. Talk about the $ markup. Truly a disappointment. The place was old and dirty although it did have a cool red light appearance. I don’t know if there was something about the day we went whether it was a DJ party, but I felt like this bar was more for someone in there early 20s going to any bar on dirty 6th. It doesn’t have the sophistication of other speakeasies in Austin or really anywhere. I cannot recommend this place. Outside of the secret entrance, this place doesn’t resemble a speakeasy at all and was a huge letdown. If you’re looking for a dive bar, just like the others on 6th Street, this might be your place. As a dive bar, you would really enjoy this place, except for the expensive drinks.
