My husband and I visit Jim’s every chance we get!! The food is always delicious and reasonably priced. And literally everything is so good!! The service is why we come back though! Sandie and Brenda are the BEST!!! I will always recommend this place to anyone and everyone that asks!!
Came with my mom and son who is a notoriously picky eater. My son loved the spaghetti and side of fries. Ate every single bite! A miracle!! My pancakes, eggs, and bacon were delicious. My mom enjoyed her chicken fried chicken. Service was wonderful on top of the delicious meals! Thanks!
I absolutely love jims as well as my family. We went to the Austin location where as we live in San Antonio but it was still good. The only thing I didn't like and why I give the service four stars is that when me and my family went in it seemed like nobody wanted to wait on us. We ended up getting a young gentleman who was nice and courteous. He took our order with no problem and was just perfect overall. The food was hot and fast in my family was extremely pleased for we had an hour and 45 minutes ride home. It wasn't packed in there so I expected the food to come out kind of quick but we all got full and we all enjoyed our time I appreciate anyone who's willing to wait on a family of five and I know for a fact because I was a server at one point that most families don't clean up after themselves and make extra messes as well as leaves small tips. I had no problem leaving this dude a good tip because he was excellent. I wish I could remember his name but overall he knows who he is. Overall a great restaurant as well as a great location.
I have chemo on Mondays (just started) and my husband promised after I could have Jim’s! I thought about what I was gonna have all day!
I’ve been going to this exact Jim’s for about 10 years. The service is always friendly and warm. The food is always fresh and delicious. I highly recommend coming here! :)
We have been coming for years to the McNeil location, we love all of the waitstaff, Kim has been a consistent waitress for us, knowing our order and making our time at the restaurant like coming home. The food is always incredible, with the chicken fried steak being one of our litmus tests for chicken fried steak. The blue berry pancakes are beyond delicious!
O day special was meat loaf that was at least 3 inches tall and delicious. With mashed potatoes and peach. Loved it all☺️😊😁
We were in town for two days and a friend recommended Jim's. I am so glad that we ate here. I really wish I had a Jim's up in NE Texas where we are from. We ate breakfast and it was memorable. Those biscuits and gravy were like divine ambrosia to this southern man's heart. Bless this restaurant and may their success flourish for hundreds of years.
I have loved this restaurant since I was a kid growing up in San Antonio! Their onion rings are hands down the best anywhere...so ..imagine my disappointment this time when they came out undercooked and dripping in grease! They must have a new cook..😞
Vintage good ol American coziness. The world feels less on fire when you come here.
Breakfast was served to me within 12-15 minutes of ordering, regardless of them being packed with patrons. My server was very nice and attentive to my needs and requests. I had a simple 2 egg, hash browns, ham plate. It was reasonably priced, only complaint I would have is that I wasn't aware of an egg surcharge. They might let you know that when you place the order and your order has eggs. Other than that I'd go back anytime for good, fast, friendly service breakfast!
We were there Sat night around 7. Food was its great like always and had the BEST waiter!
I come in here regularly with my toddler, it is one of her favorite spots and everytime we come in the staff makes it a smooth experience. The food is quick to come out and our order is always correct. They are accommodating for kiddos and that is something special.
Jim's has never disappointed! Good food, good portions, good service, good price!
Jim’s is one of those Diner establishments that are still standing in a time when we don’t have much of these anymore. You have the exposed kitchen, booth seats, wonderful waiters and waitresses, fresh hot coffee at the drop of a hat and a full menu of breakfast all day. If you haven’t had their chicken fried steak breakfast, you’re not living your best life. Robert was such a delight to have serving us. Sweet tea was bomb and all the nostalgia of diner atmosphere made lunch with mom very special.
Good breakfast, better service! Chris was amazing and she was so attentive! Will definitely make this a go-to stop in Austin!
What can I say?I ate at gyms twice a week for breakfast.Great staff great food good prices
Great food and excellent service every time.
The classic diner experience. If you are looking for a no frills good meal, come here. Been eating their tortilla soup and breakfast tacos for years, and I will continue to do so until they close.
We have been wanting to try Jim’s. We moved here from Arkansas and finally got to come tonight and I would say it was worth the wait. The food was amazing and so was the Strawberry Pie and Coconut Cream Pie. I would definitely recommend this place and will definitely make this our new go to place. Very Good. Five stars for sure.
Service was refreshing, and friendly. Food was great, and even the timing of ordering and receiving was wonderful. Two thumbs up 👍
Came here for lunch after getting off work early. I'm lucky that I live near by that I can walk here :) My server was great and the food was delicious and fresh! I had the Club sandwich with french fries and Raspberry Iced Sweet Tea. Definitely check this place out if you like old school diner style! They have a huge menu to choose from. Even got a to-go cup!
My friend and I went recently and out of my 10 years in austin idk why I've never stopped by. Although busy service was fast and the waitress was nice. Full of locals and families. I ordered the country fried chicken steak with a single pancake and it was an amazing meal. I truly enjoyed it. I wish I left room for pie as it looked good when we walked in but I was stuffed. If youre looking for a place of nostalgia or just a classic diner you found it here.
Good ol’fashioned diner. I have no qualms with this place. Friendly staff and my waitress was very kind. She checked up on me frequently. My eggs were cooked perfectly. Bacon tasted like bacon. The hash browns were super good. Very crunchy on the outside, but soft on the inside. Pancakes were warm and fluffy. They didn’t skimp out on the butter and syrup too. And everything came out fast too! Good experience for me!
We usually eat at this Jim’s once a week. The food has been great including our most recent visit around 11am on Saturday June 21. We had a three egg plate and a grilled chicken over salad. The egg plate was tasty and everything came out as ordered. The chicken salad included generous portions of salad greens and ranch dressing and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Our server greeted us quickly and provided good service. It’s a come-as-you-are kind of place and we like that.
Jim's Restaurant is a local gem! The first time my husband and I ate here it was super busy, which we took as a great sign. Though it was busy, the turnover is really fast and you don't usually have to wait very long for a table. The food is always consistent and delicious. We usually get omelette's, and they're always cooked to perfection! The server's and host staff are very friendly and welcoming. Sometimes it's hard to find a parking spot, but you can use the very back portion of the HEB lot, if necessary. The restaurant is very easy to notice from the road as there is a very large and very tall "Jim's Restaurant" sign on the lot; you can even see the sign from either side of Highway 183, not just from the frontage road (Research Blvd.). If you haven't tried this restaurant, you're definitely missing out!
I got the ribeye and eggs, chef did amazing and cooked it perfectly. Ms Tammy was my service provider at the bar and was very attentive and kind. I didn’t catch the hostess name but she was so sweet with talking with me about how they have regulars. Had an amazing brunch. Thankful.
love the people that work there! consistently good food. best breakfast ever! great senior selection!!!
Enjoyed Texas Omellette w Egg Whites, Grits & Fruit. My toast was perfectly buttered😋 Mario R Perez Executive Chef
This is the first time I've gone to Jim's in probably 30 years since I worked night shifts. My wife hadn't ever tried it, and she was curious, so we came by. I was honestly expecting mediocre food and dismal service. Instead, the people were happy and laughing. Our waitress was absolutely amazing! Kind and solicitous, super friendly and fun. I got the chicken fried steak and I was completely blown away. It's actually really good, the batter was light and perfectly crispy, and it a great sized portion. The spinach was cooked perfectly. The fried okra was light and delicious. Whatever I was expecting when I came in, I was completely wrong. Everyone was funny, friendly, kind, and the food was amazing. And the value was AMAZING. The prices are VERY reasonable! We will DEFINITELY be back. I'm a little mad at myself that I've ignored this place for so long and it's 10 minutes from home. 🤬
My husband and I had dinner here tonight and it was great! I have never eaten at Jim's and my husband did quite a bit in the 90s when it was a 24-HR diner. We visited this location and had Octavia as our waitress. She was very friendly, talkative, and professional. She took our drink orders first and delivered them fast, yet gave us time to look over the menu. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak with spinach, fried okra, and a toast. I ordered the fried catfish and shrimp with carrots, cole slaw, and toast. Both meals were surprisingly good! The steak was thick and lightly battered, and the gravy was just perfect. The spinach was cooked but not overdone. And the fried okra was also lightly battered and delicious. My fried catfish was perfectly fried as was the shrimp, not over battered and over fried. It came with both tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. The carrots were cooked well, soft but not mushy. The cole slaw was good but not homemade, which is my favorite. We each also ordered a slice of pie to-go, chocolate pie and coconut cream pie. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food yet the prices were not outrageous. Octavia was a wonderful waitress. Her timing was great and she checked in on us without being overly attentive. She and her coworkers are a happy bunch, which was a delight to see and hear. It really brought a smile to our faces. They greeted regular customers like family and made sure everyone was tended to. I have missed this kind of diner environment for a long while and am so glad we stopped in this evening. Such a great location - very clean and nice. We were able to have a delicious meal in a relaxing environment. Thank you, Octavia, for taking good care of us. We will see you again soon.
Food Is Very Good . And Staff are Wonderful & Friendly. Everything is GOOD. Just One Thing I Want To Ask. Can You guts Make Coffee Just a Little Stronger. Just a TAD Stronger. Thank You
It was the first restaurant my family went to when we came down here in 1989. The food is solid, very affordable, and the diner feel is authentic and not very common anymore. Breakfast is great and the lunch and dinner are spot on, too. Here’s to many more years of this place being fantastic.
Stopped by Jim’s Restaurant for breakfast and I was impressed — the Buttermilk Pancakes were fluffy and perfectly browned, and their Chicken Fried Breakfast (hand-battered chicken on top with gravy and eggs) was hearty and comforting. The Texas Omelet, stuffed with bacon, sausage, diced ham, and cheese, was also a solid choice. The staff were warm and genuine, the atmosphere felt like a classic American diner, and the portions were generous (you don’t leave hungry!). Definitely a go-to when you want a satisfying, down-to-earth meal with that homey diner feel.
Jim's is always my family's go-to spot. We usually go to the other location but I'm so glad we stopped here. The food was hot & fresh, everyone's order was A1! Our waitress Johnsie was amazing. Super friendly w/a great demeanor, you guys should give her a raise! One more thing we noticed was how clean this Jim's is! I mean the other one isn't dirty (they could change out the blinds & make sure booths are cleaned) but this one was just spotless✨ thanks to the staff for paying more attention to detail. Love it! We'll definitely be back to this location
I like it here. It’s older and a bit worn maybe. Old school even. But it feels like home. Food was good. Waitress was great. And even with a 50 cent egg surcharge due to Bidenomics, still a good deal for breakfast! Heck yeah come here. Sure wish a Leander area location existed. Come here.
I love the lunch specials. It's a good amount of food for the price. I usually call it in and within 10 minutes I'm walking out their door with it. They package it well for transportation and the food is still hot when I arrive home. I would recommend it if you want some quick comfort food at a good price!
Don't think you can't eat clean at Jim's. The answer is that you can. And you can enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get something lite and still so yummy. I loved it as usual. But this time it was lunch time and it had to be something quick. No problem for the great staff at Jim's. They can't do enough to make one feel good about coming in for a meal. Can't say enough about the excellent customer service and the meal. Do yourself a favor and try it.

Awesome hash browns, waffle and chicken fried chicken. 10/10! Service was fast and friendly.
Our server was amazing. Answered our questions, took care of us and made us feel welcome. Great service. Great food. Good atmosphere for food and conversation.

I have always loved old style diners, and Jims is a good one. Parking is plentiful, it is popular and the menu is quite extensive. The service is friendly and the food very good.

This place has an old school feel from the moment you walk in. The wait staff was very friendly and the service was fast. I had pancakes and they were old school diner delicious. We will be back!
When friends get together for informal meals, we generally pick Jim’s Restaurants. The location is accessible, parking generous, menu broad, service excellent, and food very good.
Old-school Texas alternative to IHOP, probably hasn't changed in decades. Excellent prices for straightforward meals, including breakfast all day
Their chicken fried steak is always good. It’s worth it.
My burger 🍔 was hands down amazing!!!! I got half fries and half onion rings. Thank you. The pinyin rings are 💯 delicious.
I went old school and tried Jim's. Still looks like a diner and had the old fashioned front counter seating available, well spaced out between customers. The chicken fried steak was surprisingly pretty good 👍. Not over breaded, good size steak and hot out of the fryer. Old school mashed potatoes with classic cream gravy and creamy coleslaw.
It was a delightful experience, especially the waitress we had. She went above and beyond her service. But when I first took a bite of the fried catfish, it was seasoned with too much salt. Thank you for exchanging the fish and giving me shrimp instead. The coleslaw, onion rings, and shrimp were great.
Eat here quite often for late breakfast. Food is always good. Service is most of the time good. The restaurant is quite old but that's part of the charm.
Pretty decent breakfast. Went about 10a on a Saturday and was really busy. Food was server hot even though we were in a large group of 8 people. Enjoyed the fresh fruit, a lot of times you eat fruit at a restaurant and it is not that fresh, but this was good. Enjoyed the poached eggs, but the ham and bacon were not that great. I would go back again for breakfast.
I have been to both locations on 183 and I have some comparisons: - This location seems to only cook to speed, or don't like cooking crispy French fries and crispy hashbrowns. - It's a bit gloomy inside, but I'm sure for the late night shifts when the bars close. Other location just seems to be focusing on the quality and consistency of food. Photos include a to go order today from them. Over medium eggs were over hard eggs and the hashbrowns weren't even cooked long it looked like. The chicken fried steak was good but a bit smaller than usual. I went to both locations around the same time of the day, between 1-3pm. I got to go today because I had my kid with me but the pictures should clarify the difference in locations. With the homeless tents right across the street at this location, it doesn't seem too safe either. I would just go to the one off 183 and mopac for a better family experience or late night experience. Either way, jims is still great to eat at!
I had the catfish plate, it came with two catfish and two sides and tartar sauce. There were no complaints here from this place. I even went with a party of 9 and we were taken care of very quickly and efficiently. Thank you to our server, im sorry I forgot her name. Wonderful service and food.
Usually get great service, and great food here… today was completely off. Had a waitress we had never had before, can’t remember her name but she had shorter hair and I think a nose or lip piercing? Anyways, ordered our food like we usually do, and then the food arrived. My partner’s eggs were wrong, not a huge deal, eggs are eggs. But my tacos were unfortunately both wrong. We waited almost 10 minutes for the server to come back, to which I had to ask for my remade tacos to go, as my partner had already completely finished his food. It was just disappointing as she had no other tables from what I could see. Love Jim’s, but will probably go out of my way to not sit in her section again.
I’ve always enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Jim's Restaurant. The dishes are consistently delicious, and it’s been a go-to spot for me. However, I’ve noticed recently that the staff seems a bit down and less enthusiastic, which does affect the overall experience. I hope management can look into ways to support their team, as the friendly service has always been part of what makes Jim’s great!

Food is always good, but the service has become really hit or miss over the last few years. I've stopped going after the last time. Was seated 20 minutes and no one brought a menu or water or anything. Feels like attending to my table has been put on the back burner several times. The Jim's that's closer to Burnett has a little better service. Had too many parents not keep their children under control too many times, and staff won't do anything. BIG sewage odor prob in bathroom.
At noon today I walk in to make a order to go no issue. Older lady just stands there no greeting or acknowledgement. Just bad vibes just coming off her order my food. Lady still was treating me like I stole something from her ask if she was ok and if she had a problem with me? She walk away from my talking manager Luis steps in and says ill talk with her i ask do you wanted know what happen he no ill talk with her??? Been going here for many decades and this experience just ruin that.
We love Jim’s and come here occasionally. We missed our normal waitress Kim while there are other great servers here today felt like an off day for the restaurant. Our waitress today was nice and attentive despite the other workers being snippy at the bar. Just one of those days.
Seems like its going down hill, id be sad to see it go. A Texas staple. Needs a face lift at every location ive been too, paint on walls and ceiling at least. Theres always at least A fly in there. Good food and an ok price otherwise.
Jim's is usually a great restaurant. This location, I believe on this day, was a bit off. The food was not as good as it usually is. The service and atmosphere of the restaurant was great. I will still continue to visit Jim's. One "bad" day isn't the end of the world.
I went here on my lunch break hoping to get a nice decent good lunch in a timely fashion. I seated myself at the bar and proceeded to order a half-and-half, tea, and a double meat cheeseburger,…
The food was really good except the biscuits they are kinda dry but while I was in the restroom I saw a tequila bottle in one of the restroom stalls. Though my waitress Celia was extremely polite

We had a basic breakfast that was pretty basic and did the job. The photos on the menu are so unappetizing it made it more difficult to order. I would go back for breakfast food.

Food was a good 4 star quality but the restaurant is so dirty and un-maintained, it completely ruined the dining experience. The ceiling tiles are disgusting (yet would be cheap to repair). The ceiling fans had a carpet-thick layer of dust…. It makes you wonder if the owners don’t care enough about these things, what else are they not cleaning in the kitchen where the food is prepared?
We have been coming here for many years. Today was pretty bad. Waited a long time to not get what we ordered. Waited a long time to run our credit card. The waitress had metal rings in her face which was unappetizing. The manager at one point was shaking his finger in her face saying “don’t do that!”
MANAGER who rang me out on front cash register messed up assuming the change in cash that I was to receive. I paid $42.43 in cash for a bill of $(27.43) I was supposed to receive $15.00 change. HE ONLY GAVE me $7.00 He assumed and stole $8.00 from me. I called a to go order. Food was excellent and person on the phone who took the to go order also did very well. The manager cannot count out cash to customers. Manager hung up on me when I called to inform him on the phone. The person who took my to go order handed it to him. Both were men. Awful response to my lunch. Needs improvement and those who do not assume you WILL TIP them.

I use too eat at this Jim's Years back.Decided to stop and order the older waitress was super friendly . The Spanish cook was a girl and was yelling at the other male cook. They had orders that were backed up. I placed an order too go, I get home and the food was just Nasty.. I threw the food away. I call the store to let them know. The Manager had no Mgr Skills , No I'm sorry or how can I make it better.. Just AWFUL.. VERY VERY BAD ATTITUDE.. Overall the food was Awful, The Managers attitude was awful as well. The Waitress was very friendly.. I would not return Ever Again..
I’ve been a regular at Jim’s as long as I can remember. I love all the Jim’s which used to include this one, but recently it’s been bad energy. This woman (I believe her name was Kim) who is one of the servers had an attitude issue with another server. She was being very harsh and abrasive towards her and belittling IN FRONT of the customers. She clearly frazzled that young girl and made the atmosphere extremely uncomfortable. I love Jim’s for its feel good, relaxed energy and this location has become toxic. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen this woman create this atmosphere. I really don’t understand how she still has a job and why management hasn’t done anything . If it’s an employment issue for why you keep her I’d imagine you’d have more servers if they were welcomed with a healthy work environment.
I’m a regular here at this Jim’s,There’s a lot of sweet workers but the environment is really toxic. You can just tell from dining in ,it’s so unfair just having to sit thru your whole meal watching those poor workers degrade other servers. I notice Brenda and Sandy repeatedly grab all the customers. When I ask for a specific server they lie on her name. This is not a fair work environment and the manager fails to do anything about it. I would hate to see servers leave due to the unfair system these “mean girls” show and put them through. I will not be coming back anymore due to my concerns not being heard and i hope it gets better.
I've been going to this location for over 15 years. The food is good, great breakfasts and the waitstaff works hard. However, the one constant was it's uncleanliness. There was always food, napkins and straw wrappers under the tables. Something I somehow always managed to ignore. I'm not sure I ever saw anyone cleaning under the tables. Then I made an awful mistake the last time I was there. For some reason I looked up at the ceiling. And what I saw made me feel sick. Most of the ceiling had a brown to black coloring across most of it. The vents were disgusting. It was mold. And by the looks of it, it had been there forever. I seriously doubt that the ceiling was "ever" cleaned or repaired in any way whatsoever. Unfortunately, that was a sight that I can't get out of my mind and I'll never again visit that location. I hate that, because it was my go to for breakfast. But there's no way now that I'll be able to regain my appetite there again. With much regret, Goodbye Jim's 👋
I never give bad reviews but this is a must. If I could I would give no stars. First time here and bad experience. We went to go eat here for my son’s 3rd birthday and it took long to get our food, about 30mins-40mins. They had nats flying around, we already had our drinks ordered or we would have left. My daughter had pink lemonade and it was sour. I had a hamburger with fries and the hamburger was burnt. They give me another one without my fries so I had to asked for my fries back because I just ate 3-5 fries. I would never go here again. Plus The server didn’t seem like she didn’t like her job.
