I absolutely love this place! We come every year for the Chinese New Year celebrations, and it’s always so much fun! The food is amazing, the surf and turf roll, and the fried rice are among the best. Super tasty and fresh. The shrimp tempura was delicious and perfectly crisp. The drinks are delicious too. The staff and service are fantastic and welcoming. I highly recommend it if you are in the mood for a wonderful night out. Ask Trinity to make you a special cocktail, and ask Rick to bring you a special roll. You won’t be disappointed.
We figured we would stop somewhere local for food and this place popped up in our search. We had just said goodbye to a family pet and didn’t want anything huge. Nanami looked decent and we figured we would give it a try. Fantastic food. The fish was really fresh. We were surprised with each dish to find that it was actually really good. Don’t miss this hidden gem. We had the pepper tuna stack, Lovers roll, Teriyaki beef, Miso soup, Salad, and the Yakisoba. The only thing we didn’t absolutely love was the Yakisoba, and it was still probably 8/10.
Man...this place is great. I'm not a fan of raw fish, but I tolerate it because my family loves it. Chef Ryan hooked me up with a nice yellowtail that was fantastic. Ask for the special spice they place on the fish to give it a spicy smokey taste. Super awesome place.
We came here late night, and the staff went above and beyond and stayed open for us. The service was absolutely incredible, so welcoming. Food was amazing. 10/10
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SPOT!!! Even if I didn’t live in the neighborhood, this would be my neighborhood spot! I would drive any amount of time to get here! Seriously. Not only is the food excellent- EXTREMELY fresh fish, the cuts are EXPERT, the staff treats you like family! Probably because they are family. I am here at least 2 times a week, if not more! The happy hour specials are awesome & the variety of dishes offered means you never get bored. Sometimes it’s bento box lunch, sometimes it’s hand rolls, sometimes it’s Chef’s choice! They have a full bar as well as a great beer and wine selection. Every night is a different special, both food and wine. When I first started coming here, I was most impressed by their cold sake selection, but all of their menu has impressed me. This will be my sushi spot for as long as they decide to stay in Austin! Which I think will be for a very long while since the owners are deeply rooted in the community here. I can’t say enough good things about this place! Come see for yourself!
Where to begin?!? The service was fantastic! Sonny took superb care of us! He was well acquainted with the menu and was able to recommend the most amazing options! Tuesdays sake is half off! Say less! The lovers roll was a delightful experience! The house sake was FANTASTIC!!! THEN, my friend mentioned that it was my birthday and Sonny came out with a tempura cheesecake!!! Everything was beyond amazing! It was like a lovely dream. I will definitely be back in the future!!!
I’ve been going to Nanami for years and simply love this place. The food is fantastic and the value is unmatched. I had my birthday there several years ago and they were so wonderful that I decided to host my partners surprise birthday party there this last September. They were unbelievably accommodating. They put together seating for 16, setup a table for our gifts and cupcake tower, let us come early to decorate, and even played music that my partner likes. On the food front, I highly recommend the boat for three (for two, haha) that is shown in the photo. That’s what my partner and I always have. So much good sushi. Delicious!
My wife and I ordered lunch specials. The sushi rolls were relatively small but very delicious, and the miso soup was tasty. The house salads consist of cheap iceberg lettuce and ginger dressing, but the real issue is that one salad had an unidentifiable, unpleasant aftertaste, rendering it inedible -- an unfortunate blemish on an otherwise excellent lunch.
As a sushi lover, it’s been disappointing here several times. Will not be a returning customer, the sushi is served cold, the fish portions were very small as well. I spent over 60$ for myself and got a watery Diet Coke, watery eel Sauce and sushi that was not good quality.
Overall it was good. The food was tasty, though it felt like they just added a lot of MSG. I got the chicken teriyaki bento box with California rolls. Good, but the mount of food was pitiful—there was more rice than chicken and it was just a half cup of rice. The sushi was good but the box was not worth the $26. $20, sure.
it was adequate. Unfortunately we did not enjoy the food there. TL;DR version - it is ok. They have a wide variety of Sushi Rolls (Nigiri) on the menu. The Teriyaki sauce they use is way too sweet, portion size leans on the small side. Most of the "sauces" they use for the many nigiri we ordered and the salads were over powering, and reduced the flavor of the actual item. I would not recommend this place. Went with several friends for a celebration dinner on a Sunday evening, and while not crowded, the wait staff was a bit off. For example, taking our glass of water away, and not returning it during our meal ... we had to ask for another glass of water. Refills on hot tea had to be requested often. The atmosphere of the dining area is dark, very dark, even at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon, it was difficult to read the menu. I was unable to get a feel for the establishment based on how dim the lighting was. At least the sushi bar seemed to be in well lit. The food was lacking in flavor, but great presentation. The many rolls we ordered were nicely presented, but the many sauces they pour were very sweet, which took away from the experience. Stay away from the Sashimi Salad, for $15 you get a small salad, drenched in a sweet dressing that overpowered the plate. I could not taste the individual (and small) portions of fish. Portion size; for the nigiri, it was the standard size. But the rest of the Kitchen Plates (on the menu) like Teriyaki Chicken, it was more of the same; small portions with over pour of sauce that took away from the dish as a whole. I can not recommend this establishment to anyone.
We were going here for date night planning to spend a few hundred. We were probably only 2 of 6 customers in the restaurant and we sat at the sushi bar. It took about 20 minutes to get drinks which was fine, then they finally came back and we got edemame, which was great. Then they never came back to order our food or check on is so after an hour we went to Uchi and spend 200$ at that fine establishment. Don't waste your time or money here. But they do have a cool saki botttle.
We visited the restaurant and the food was served fairly quickly, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was very disappointing. The scallop in the baked rolls had a very strong fishy smell and unpleasant taste. It seemed either not fresh or improperly stored (possibly previously frozen — we can’t say for sure). We ordered other rolls hoping the issue was only with one dish, but they were also not good. We couldn’t eat the food at all. Overall, we were very disappointed with the quality and hope the restaurant will pay more attention to the freshness of their ingredients and quality control.
I have tried many places around Austin and this was the first sushi was actually inedible. The spicy salmon roll was slimy, smelled insanely fishy, and was obviously on the verge of rotting. The philly roll was slightly better, but the fish was chewy and salty. The rock and roll avocado was brown and it looks like the shrimp was molding on the bottom. I attempted to eat it, but it was the worst, oldest tasting sushi I've ever had. Definitely getting a refund.
I tried it once more after we went once a very long time ago when they first opened and we’re not impressed. It was even worse this time. $10 “Kani salad” that was not only the smallest of portions but just simply was some sliced cucumber and imitation crab and made at all like a traditional kani. But I was shocked at the size for $10. The baked avocado also was small and slapped together and a mess when I opened it. So an $11 avocado with imitation crab and Mayo. Then the yellow tail collar was flavorless and dry (so shocking because it’s difficult to do a collar poorly, it’s such a delicate tasty cut). When we went before we had the “hamachi rice” which was terrible. We love places like Eurasia, Kome, and Otoko is just incredible, and I don’t mind spending money on good food, but even spending $40 on a terrible meal is just not ok. If you can’t make the basic things right for just quick lunch, I can’t imagine the rest.
I am unamused! The sushi smelt as if it was days old. The tempura and the calamari were both soggy. The sauce for the calamari was VINEGAR. Like someone explain that to me! Vinegar?? Will never ever return or recommend. Do better please for your 4.2 star review I honestly expected a lot more. That’s salmon and shrimp tempura. I’m unamused .
