Harris BBQ receives mixed reviews. Many customers praise the tri-tip, brisket, and mac & cheese, especially since the new pit master, Pat, took over. However, some find the meat dry or salty, and the sides inconsistent. Cleanliness and service are generally appreciated.

Tip: The reviews suggest the food quality has improved with new management. Ask about the pit master's recommendations and try the tri-tip.

Great Event Bourbon & BBQ at Harris BBQ. Food was very tasty.
Great Event Bourbon & BBQ at Harris BBQ. Food was very tasty.
The store was clean and set up that you felt welcomed and want to order. The food is amazing the tables were clean ready for to want to eat in there dining area. The grill master came around and asked how was the food. The food was delicious and amazing. The food was worth every penny.
The reviews and rankings are deceiving because the they are based on previous management. I went today and had a amazing tri tip sandwich! My friend said the ribs were the best he ever had. The Pit Master (Pat) came out an met us and told us his story and why he loves what he does. Like all BBQ it is a little pricy but it lives up to it! Highly recommend this place if you want good BBQ from people that live for it.
The food was pretty good here. I had the brisket, chicken, Mac & cheese, and potato salad. I would recommend it.
Just had the best lunch. The turkey and tri tip were great. The smoke flavor and moistness of the meat were the best. I don’t much care for Mac and cheese but the Mac and cheese there changed my mind. I bought olive oil and sauces to bring home but the best part was bringing home a loaded baked potato and brisket. I got a lb of smoked brisket for $20. Now to some it might sound expensive but the other day I ordered a small shake, burger and fries and that meal came to over $20. Not near the quality of the smoked brisket. Try it I don’t think you will be sorry.
This was our first time eating here. We got a couple of plates so we could sample the meats and sides. We really liked everything we ate! The meat was very juicy and flavorful by itself. And the sides were really good, also. Lots of good flavors blended together well. They have three different flavors of barbecue sauce: original, spicy, sweet. All very good! The tables are beautiful. They are wood covered in epoxy so you can see the wood really well! Everything is very clean! Staff is very friendly. We are looking forward to going back and trying a sandwich or a loaded baked potato!

Just want to mention I grew up in LA and most of the BBQ I ate was from Compton or LA area. I haven’t found any BBQ here in Bakersfield that is similar. I ordered the 2 meat combo, tri tip, and kids hotdog. Hotdog was good, surprised the bread wasn’t soggy, it was nice and toasted. At first it felt like it was a little food but it’s actually quite a lot with the sides. The ribs have been the best I’ve had here in Bakersfield, not dry or salty. The chicken was so moist and flavorful. Those two I would definitely order again. The sides were potato salad(husband gave it 4.5/5), beans (4/5, would have given them a 5, they were good just too spicy for me, wish they would add it to the description), and Mac and cheese (4.5, they were more creamy than cheesy and not too salty, I do prefer the Porkchop and Bubbas Mac, and this was still pretty good). Overall really good and did not think it’s over priced at all. Will be coming back for sure.

If you love barbecue, Harris Barbecue is a must-try. I'm a huge fan of their brisket-it's always tender, smoky, and full of flavor. But I recently tried their loaded brisket fries, and they were next-level delicious. Perfectly seasoned fries piled high with juicy brisket, cheese, and all the right toppings. Every bite was amazing.
Hi guys! We loved the place, the layout and the patio. But the food was too salty and spicy esp mac and cheese. Seems like everything had too much spices in it. Please maybe modify the cooking instructions? We would love to be back ❤️🍽️
Food is so good there's always a long line. Unfortunately, my pulled pork sandwich was a little dry. A lot of pork but without any veggies.

Overall a good place for some quick bbq. The food was ready quick, i would have liked for the meat in the sandwich to be more hot and juicier. The Brisket was a bit tuff for brisket. I believe they should have gave more bbq sauce considering how dry the sandwich was. Great selection on the soft drinks, definitely way more than other bbq places.
My son got the California chicken sandwich and fries. Looked a little burnt but seemed fine and fries were good. I got the Santa Maria trip sandwich with spicy sauce in the side and the white cheese potatoes with gravy. The tritip sandwich was okay, spicy sauce only slightly spicy. Would be nice to have it "deluxe" with maybe tomatoes, Mayo and shredded lettuce(I know that's not the norm). I don't think they make any of the sides but the mashed potatoes were good. Parking and entrance was confusing and the ringing bell Everytime the back door opens is so annoying.

I got three meats plate to go. First meatvi tried was the chicken, was not impressed it was dry even loaded with bbq sauce. Next up was the pulled pork it had good flavor and was decent. Then the brisket was up it was flavorful moist and I give it a thumbs up, the Cole slaw was dry. The French fries were delicious was expecting a bit more out of a BBQ place, 4/10

Update on Harris BBQ's new restaurant 7/1/25: For $41, I got a small side of Mac-n-Cheese, a side of Okra, 1/2 lb. brisket, 1/2 lb., pulled pork and 1 6oz jalapeno sausage. Cons: • Mac-n-Cheese was room temp and mediocre • Brisket was room temp and dry, lean • Pulled pork was flavorless, near room temp • Jalapeno sausage was okay, but not $7 okay. I've cooked a better brat at home • BBQ tastes cheap, too much liquid smoke • BBQ sauce pumps require pressure to dispense, but explode. Got sauce on shirt. • Lots of flies indoors Pro: I actually liked the fried okra, not the best. Warmest thing I had. I gave them a chance from visit to their Sully's restaurant, hoping they'd grow and get better. Sadly, it has not. Disappointing. Paid $18.35!!! for 1/2 lb. of brisket and a medium side of fries. The barbeque sauce served was reminiscent of cheap restaurant bottles sauce. Not worth it. Service was mediocre as was the food. One girl lightly calls out the numbers and walks away. 2 minutes she calls it out again. Someone used the PA system once. I waited for mine to be called out, but they never did; I had to ask about it. There is an outdoor/indoor dining area to sit but they never called the numbers out in the room, except the one PA system call. Why not always use the PA system?!? Avoid it. Don't pay the prices for small portions of food. There's little to no value here. UPDATE: Tried the breakfast burrito. Mostly potato with a tiny sprinkling of brisket. Cold cheese. No salsa. Dry mouthful. Pretty sure the eggs are powdered.
1st time trying. Heard how good the location on I-5 was and couldn’t wait to try. Service was friendly and polite. Offered variety of sauces and asked if loaded was ok for the pulled pork fries that I ordered. I appreciated the question. The fries arrived quickly and I had my order home within 10 minutes. When I opened the package the food was Luke warm and the amount of pork was enough to fill a slider. The cheese, I assumed was from a can. And the amount of green onions overpowered not only the smell of the dish, but the taste. First bite lacked flavor all the way through. The sauce that was added took some of the blandness from the dish, but was too thin and one container is not enough to cover the dish that needed more. Compare that to the size of the dish and my $13.85, which included a tip, it was far from worth it. I truly wished it was better.
Really mid Brisket is a dry and falls apart Corn bread is also really dry! But still ok if just stopping to eat something on a long drive

Nothing special here and a little on the salty side. Mac N Cheese is SPICY without any warning of such. Outside tables were mostly dirty and they have an ant issue out there. One of those "Pick up your own food and serve yourself but we still want a tip." places. Meals came with a gratuitous piece of Wonder Bread? In a town full of BBQ joints, nothing sticks out here but the high prices. Not worth the drive from Rosedale....
Well, the flavor of the TriTip is **monumentally** ordinary. (Go to Salty’s if you want good Tri-Tip.) The sauces are vinegar or honey, as the original sauce is heavy in vinegar and the sweet sauce has so much honey in it, it tastes like you are pouring honey on it. I’m sure the beef is high quality, but seriously **dry**. It was $25 per person with drink and no tip as the employee rushed past the tip screen (I’m guessing she feels bad about the value?). If it was $15 per person with drink, I would consider it a solid option, but there are SO many other options in town for Tri-Tip, like Salty’s or any outdoor parking lot bbq at a random Fastrip in the county. Service was quick and friendly, the ambience is fine if not a tad minimal for a Harris establishment. I don’t see this place lasting very long as there is hardly anyone ever here. Really hoped it would have been better as it is close to home.

“BEWARE” pick up order at 3:30pm & ate at 7:40pm. Had a staple inside beans. Been a customer in the past and had a great experience, but this is unbelievable . Open up beans and had a staple inside of it. I’m glad it was floating at the top for me to notice. If my family member ate it we would have had problems!!!!! I don’t want a refund nor a new plate. We will never return to this place!!!! The owner please review cameras of your employees and please make sure they are no longer there employed.

EDIT: tried this place again since Bakersfield is a food dessert. Tri tip is so bad. Seriously rubbery, bland and sad. Brisket is chewy and not properly smoked/rendered. Sides are still disappointing (especially the beans). Find a new chef, pit boss or whatever is leading your kitchen. Really embarrassing to call this bbq. You couldn’t dry out meat more if you tried. Stringy & pathetic. Sides are out of bags, sauce is sugar. Please learn a craft before bragging about your skills. pit master pat should be ashamed. Title revoked…
We have been wanting to try Harris restaurant ever since they opened. We went to Harris Ranch for a wedding years ago and the food was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately I can't say the same for this Buena Vista location. The restaurant itself is nice and clean. The service was great, and the people were friendly. We ordered the ribs and they were mostly fat and barley eaten because they were so bad. Waste of money in my opinion. The pulled pork sandwich was pretty good and so was the tri-tip sandwich. I seriously don't recommend the garlic bread- it was a soggy slice of bread with little to no taste. To be honest the Brisket and coleslaw stole the show. If you want better ribs go to chili's or for the best ribs go to Hungry hunter and you will pay less for a much superior rack of ribs that fall off the bone. I have had better Tri-tip locally and at much better prices. This was just my families experience here, so please try them out for yourself. I doubt we will go back as it is just not worth the money.
