The Ugly Rooster is A.W.E.S.O.M.E!! Everything Ive had here has been awesome. I just had the Reess waffle. That....was good. It had Reese's pieces, peanut butter spread, and the waffle was chocolate. It was sweet, but oddly enough, it wasn't the sweetest waffle I've had before. I liked that. I also liked their coffee. And the service was great!!
I can only say what is true. I couldn't wait to sit on the toilet. I woke up 2 hours later and I'm on the toilet again. That's all I can say about their food. It was nicely prepared and tasty. I liked it, but it seems that my stomach doesn't like it!
My wife and I ate there on her birthday and we talked with our server, Ray, not a guy and she was the best. First the food was very good, good portions, and clean area. We mentioned to Ray how cold it was and that we were up from Tampa where it was 90 each day. This was May 5th, 2025, that it was my wife’s birthday and we were up visiting family. She checked back with us several times to see if we needed anything. When she brought the check, she also had a card for my wife from her and another gal with $20.00 in it for her to get a margarita at the Mexican place we had mentioned we were eating at for dinner. OMG That was the nicest thing we had ever seen in all our travels. Would highly recommend this restaurant for the food and ask for Ray. A+++
Two of us that each had a burrito. They were delicious. I like it here so much better than Malta Diner.Service was really good too!!
Wonderful lunch for 3 of us making different choices. Despite in being lunchtime at 12:30 we were seated and our waitress greeted us promptly. Food, service and timing were great. Will return and do recommend!
Amazing corned beef hash, omelette, and home fries. Will return whoenever in the area.
Always absolutely delicious food. The serving sizes are large so be aware. Food saves well for later though! Eggs Benedict, home fries, and biscuits with gravy are my favorites.
Excellent breakfast option. Affordable and good. It can get really crowded on Sunday mornings, but every place does especially if you're coming with just 2, 4 or 6 people. Food has gotten better over the years and this is now our first choice.
My first experience of home fries lol this place was a great relax and eat
If you have the time and patience to wait for a table you won't be disappointed. This restaurant is run so well. The wait staff is great and the food is delicious. Definitely a keeper
Never disappointed at the Ugly Rooster! Fresh delicious food.
First time going and it was excellent. The staff were all friendly and supported each other with tables which I find to be pretty rare. The prices were reasonable and the portions were surprisingly generous. Edit: it's been a couple of years since my first review and google wanted me to update. I'm happy to report that it's been pretty amazing amongst many return visits and has become somewhere that we visit once a month or so, even though its about a 20 minute drive. The breakfast options are especially good. Edit: it's when awhile since my last edit and things continue to be pretty stellar here. This review now spans multiple years and they've been consistently good.
Great service, tasty food, charming diner atmosphere. This was a great place to stop in before a day of work- the food fueled me all day long!
This place was amazing! Not only was the breakfast incredible, but the service was outstanding. Our server, Victoria was just the best. She couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating. We will definitely be coming back.
The food here is so good! Everyone at the table loved it. I had a BLT with so much bacon that I shared the bacon with my companions. The only problem was the toast was burned. We tried the burger, eggs, eggs Benedict, and strawberry-chocolate chip pancakes. All great! Our waitress was delightful. Wait time was appropriate.
This is by far THE best diner to go to if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed with a single item in their menu and they're extremely gluten free friendly!!! If you come I HIGHLY recommend you get the loaded home fries!
You can't go run with the place! Great food and service!
Here for breakfast and being a holiday it was busy, so I get the staff is stressed but our waitress was a little rude. But food was delicious and we did enjoy ourselves.
Best in Breakfast and lunch, fabulous service and a hometown feel, ask for Flo
Good food and service. Not freezing or hot air blowing on you. Great menu, didn't wait long for food, and the waitress was there when we needed her.
We ordered take out for breakfast on Mother’s Day and it was phenomenal. The owner is always there answering the phone and helping at the door. He’s fantastic and on top of everything. I love their “Cup O Benny” appetizer when I’m in the mood for eggs Benedict, but only want take out. It holds up to go and the egg is always cooked perfectly. This time we also tried the harvest cake which was basically a pancake with pecans, craisons, and sausage. It was so good! Light and fluffy. I will definitely be ordering it again. We also got the fried green tomatoes. They were great and the sauce that comes with them was fantastic. They had just the right kick of spice. The prices and portions are great, and the food is delicious. Highly recommend!!!
We decided to find a nice local diner to eat breakfast, and the Ugly rooster came up on Google maps. The whole diner was very welcoming and the service was friendly. I had the egg Benedict which was super tasty, the cornbeef hash was also really flavoursome. Mum had the pancakes and they were large and fluffy and she really enjoyed them. The waitress was really helpful and attentive. I would definitely eat her again and I would recommend anyone to give it try, you will not be disappointed.
Great menu, Great prices and smiley attentive servers. Fantastic simple food prepared with care and great pride. Wide range of choices. And best of all Great atmosphere and perfect lighting. Sorry for rambling on. This area has needed a restaurant like this for a long long time. Go treat yourself and support this locally owned business. You will not be disappointed.
What an awesome place! Our favorite meal to have out is breakfast and this place was by far the best we've had. They didn't chintz on the great quality local maple syrup! We'll definitely be back!
Our new favorite weekend breakfast spot! This is our third time and every time the food has been excellent, the service friendly and fast. You may have to wait for a table, but it is completely worth the wait! They even have coffee set up outside to make your wait a little more enjoyable.
What a wonderful gem of a diner The Ugly Rooster in Malta is!!! The staff was outstanding, the diner clean and inviting, and the pannycakes ... WOW. Every dish that came out of the kitchen looked incredibly delicious. Today I chose the blueberry pannycakes (I LOVE that this is what they call them on their menu!) and they were ... DELICIOUS. It's difficult to mess up diner breakfasts but at the Ugly Rooster, well, they absolutely excel with every aspects of the dining experience. Looking forward to many more visits to this delightful piece of history.
A great spot for breakfast! Eggs Benedict in fried potato halves! Never had that any where else! Super delicious! Gluten free options are tasty! But the service is where it shines! Great group of women working here!
We randomly stopped here on day one of a road trip and LOVED it. Intentionally made it a stop on the way back home. Everything was so fresh and truly delicious. LOVED The Farmer’s Daughter sandwich. Anywhere that allows you to order a single pancake for the table is a win in my book. Will be back.
Great variety of food, all really good. If you enjoy sweets, the banana’s foster French toast is fantastic. It was our favorite on the menu. But we had great eggs, breakfast burritos, and even a really good salad. Also, there’s a painting in the waiting area just outside where it asks you to find all the ugly roosters. We found 22, game on.
We stopped in on a Saturday morning before the Saratoga Jazz Festival. We were pleasantly surprised we got a table for two immediately, even though it appeared to be very busy. With it so busy, one would think it was hard to hear ourselves talk, but no, the atmosphere was not raucous, and we were able to converse easily. Excellent service. Excellent food. The home-made corned beef hash was so good, we took the rest back with us. We even picked up a couple of those naughty tee shirts!
This place must be great. But they need a bigger parking lot. I drove all the way around it twice and there was not a single open parking spot, and I saw several others doing the same thing. As I waited in a nearby driveway to connect with the person I had planned to meet for lunch, I saw 2 different people park illegally and furtively head off toward the Ugly Rooster. This was on a Thursday at lunch time during Track season.
Wonderful place, great food and service. Always stop there to eat when I'm in Malta.
I stopped in for lunch ahead of a medical appointment nearby. The service was very friendly and quick. I had the Farmer's Daughter (veggie) sandwich; it was fresh and delicious!
Great food always! We go at least once a week when we are there
10/10 would recommend! Even when they're busy the staff is always friendly and the food is always delicious. I think our longest wait was 20 minutes but it's so worth it if you have the time. I highly recommend the loaded home fries, they're so flavorful and cheesy!
The URC is simply the place, somewhere you can walk in and instantly feel comfortable, cared for, and leave with a very happy, very full belly. And their corned beef? Hands-down the best. An absolute must-try!
Our order was taken within 10 minutes of being sat, we got out food in 15 minutes and left within an hour. We walked in around 12:35pm; the parking lot was full and so were most of the tables, but service was quick efficient, and the food was great! I got the Bananas Foster French Toast with side of sausage links and shared their homemade corned beef hash with my sister.
Busy but efficient, my Irish Benny arrived hot and well-seasoned. The other diners in my party also enjoyed their meal. I would definitely return.
Alays awesome. Great food items, some really over the top indulgent which is a great treat. Foods always fresh, well prepared, friendly staff, upbeat atmosphere/vibe. We love the Ugly Rooster and will continue to go!
I took my work crew here today and the food and service was very good. This is our new go to spot when we're in Malta. Cup o' Benny and berry bruscetta were 5/5.
This place is great. Today 2 of us went in around 8:30. There was a wait so we decided to sit at the counter. Nikole was our server. (the only one on that side of the restaurant and it was jammed packed) We really didn’t wait at all, she kept our coffee topped off and checked in on us appropriately. Our food came out hot, very fast and perfectly cooked. We have leftovers and are full on $40. I really want to stress how amazing “Nikki” was. She was running her backside off with a smile. The entire staff was also friendly. When I say they were packed, there was a wait line out the door and everyone treated us like it was a slow Sunday. Highly recommend!
We had a great time at the Ugly Rooster for breakfast. The food was amazing and the corned beef hash was to die for. Will be going back!
I was accommodated so well. There were complications with the friend who was planning on meeting me there. The mgr offered a different table ( she needs protection from “germs”) The host fellow was also wonderful in meeting my extra needs. My waitress Nicole was also understanding and friendly. The food and coffee was, as always, plentiful and delicious. The French toast slices were so big that I only had 1 of the three! Even though so many people were there and continued to come in, there was enough room to choose your seat or booth. Outstanding in every way!!
If you want that good breakfast cafe/diner feel head over here. Our waitress was amazing and the food was great. I also got a hot chocolate and it was hands down the best hot chocolate I have ever had, the whipped cream was amazinggg!
Walked in and immediately felt like I time-traveled straight into the 1970s—in a good way. Old-school booths that look like they’ve seen some things, but are still holding strong. The counter has those classic swivel bar stools that make you feel obligated to spin at least once. Christmas music was playing, decorations everywhere… honestly, it felt like your cool aunt’s house during the holidays. The waitresses didn’t waste any time and greeted me right away—super welcoming vibes. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich because it came highly recommended, and I get why. Freshly made, juicy, and solidly delicious. Only thing missing was a tomato, but I survived. Overall, good food, good service, cozy throwback atmosphere. The Ugly Rooster may be ugly in name only—this place is a good time 🐔
The place was packed at 11am on a Saturday (a good sign) and people were even waiting outside but when I got my pager, it was only a 10 minute wait for a party of three. The server was cool. We all felt welcome and probably stayed past that but still felt welcome 😆 The food and prices were impressive. One coffee and three meals was only about $50 including a tip.
I went to the restaurant with my family including my young grandsons. The waitress "Sue" was awesome. She attended to us promptly, treated my grand kids incredibly well and food came quickly and as ordered. All the food was terrific and Sue checked with us frequently to provide what we needed. The food was great, large portions and Sue made the entire experience totally awesome. She was terrific!!!
So good! I went in with a party of 5 at 9am on Sunday. Historically a super busy time and day for any diner. We were seated immediately, despite visibly being busy. Our waitress was very friendly and the food came out hot and quick. Everyone at the table said their food was excellent! We shared an eggs benedict appetizer which turned out to be my personal favorite. The kids loved their waffles and french toast, and we all left with full bellies! Can't wait to go back for seconds
I had a good experience! The food was delicious— flavorful and generously portioned. The service was top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff making sure everything was perfect. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it a great spot for a relaxing meal. I’ll definitely be coming back in the future! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great breakfast or lunch spot.
Well, it is clear I have found my new go-to place for breakfast. I live a half hour away and will happily make the drive. 3 friends and I met here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. When I saw the packed parking lot, I thought for sure we were in trouble. On my way home, I passed a coffee station on the outside porch. I had never seen anything like it before and thought it was a really nice and considerate touch for waiting customers. To my surprise, my 2 friends that arrived ahead of me had already secured a table. It was definitely busy, but somehow, not so loud that we had to yell to hear each other. Despite the number of people, it was easy to converse with the waitress and each other. Our waitress was also super sweet and very helpful. She answered our many questions patiently and added items as we were ordering and realized we wanted something extra. And the food! Oh. My. Goodness. The amount of food was unreal. Do you see that pile of pancakes? If you have a sweet tooth, these cannoli pancakes will not disappoint. The homefries were perfect, which is amazing as it is very hard to find ones that are seasoned well and actually have flavor. Finally, that (homemade) corned beef hash. I usually wait all year for a trip to our favorite spot in Maine to get this. I am so excited knowing I have this option close by now, too! I did ask for it crispy, so I don't know if it would have come this way normally, but it was perfectly delicious. I highly, highly recommend stopping here for breakfast when you have the chance.
Was toward the middle of lunch hour (12;30) when I got there. Place was packed, so I sat at counter. Waitress was on the spot. Service was quick, and as always, food was phenomenal, especially the hash. You gotta try the hash!!! Highly recommend both locations. You WILL leave full n happy!!! 😎
Nice place to bring your family or just yourself for a bite to eat. The menu has different items than normal places which makes it more fun and exciting. I ordered the fried green tomato BLT and it was excellent. Silver dollar pancakes were a good price and you get 5 as well. French toast was good but expensive for just some bread, egg, & sugar! Lol Our waitress was kind, friendly, and patient as well. We will certainly be back!
This place is your typical, neighborhood greasy spoon. Our waitress was nice and friendly. She was patient with us while we took some extra time to decide. I had the Foghorn Leghorn Burrito and he had the Breakfast Club Sandwich. On my burrito I ordered it with jalapeños and subbed in cheddar cheese. There were no issues. We received our food in about 10 minutes and it was even better than expected. The meat on my burrito was well seasoned and the steak was tender. I thought the smoked paprika was a nice touch on my homefries. The cheese was gooey, the eggs were soft and fluffy, and they gave me such a great amount of steak! I wish the salsa was made in house but I can never hate salsa so I was happy either way. The bread on his sandwich was buttery and crispy. It had just the right amount of mayo. The vegetables were fresh and perfect. The waitress was attentive and checked on us during the meal to make sure we had what we need and the food was prepared well. Overall the portions were generous for the final price of $40, including an $8 tip. We had left overs for a couple of days. It was worth the $40 and we enjoyed it. The restaurant has heart. The walls are decorated with the restaurant’s philanthropic efforts in the community and the news stories concerning the restaurant and brand. There is a sense of humor in the way the restaurant is decorated in general and the atmosphere is fun and laid back while honoring the culture of the small town it serves. There is a gift shop in the back selling jewelry and even some more mystical items. The person working the cash register was sweet and nice. The only real complaint I have, and it’s not much of one, is someday the dinning room could use a new coat of paint and the seating could be updated but honestly? As a neighborhood greasy spoon with great service, good food, and a positive vibe, even those criticisms fade into the background. It is absolutely worth a visit, just bring your appetite.
This was a fun spot to stop for brunch! We were headed out of town and wanted to check it out since it was so busy - a good sign of delicious food! We figured the wait would be super long, but the restaurant is huge on the inside and they have a solid system in place to utilize every spit and get folks in and out, so the wait was only about 10 minutes! We were a party of 3 and got a beeper and waited outside with most of the other people who were waiting. We were seated in a booth and our server was so friendly and fast! They were awesome! The atmosphere reminded me of a 70s diner. Dark wood, mirrors on the walls, classic tables and seats. I would say they could use an upgrade, but in this case, it works because it is just part of the vibe of the Ugly Rooster! Our food was awesome and we would definitely go back to enjoy everything on the menu! It was hard to choose! My husband is a reuben sandwich snob and has had probably 100 different reubens in his life... and he placed this one on his top 3!!!
If you like a diner experience with really good food and service this is where you'll find it. Me and my husband just came here today (not our first time) and got the Fried green tomato BLT and the Southern style sandwich. The BLT was delicious. Perfect crispy bacon (a lot of it), fresh lettuce, perfectly tart green tomatoes with crispy cornmeal breading and fresh bread (I chose rye) with the perfect crispy fries on the side. My husband's sandwich has the same perfect bacon, delicious sausage gravy, very good biscuits, fried green tomatoes, eggs and cheddar cheese with their famous home fries on the side. We both had their very good coffee (must try) and we are set for the day. The service is always warm and friendly. It's the perfect spot to go to.
We were driving in an awful storm and decided to stop for some breakfast/brunch. So happy we did. The service and food were very delicious. Portions were great and it just really hit the spot. We had a scrambled something which was very delicious and a more traditional breakfast. I recommend the marble rye as a toast option! The French toast was the only thing that maybe could have used some love, but I’m biased- i love challah French toast - So i won’t take away any stars. Lol
Enjoying my final day off from work, by having breakfast right down the street from the office. Can't tell you how many times I have driven past this location in the last 6 years, but enough that I remember when this was still called the Malta Diner. Which subsequently closed down, and then was bought and reopened as the Ugly Rooster. Meant to try this spot sooner, but the times for when they open and when I need to be at work just never aligned and the trip here takes me roughly 30 to 45 minutes. But I have discovered, the wait was worth it. Walked in around 8:00AM to find a pretty quite atmosphere, very classic cafe and diner ascetic, and super friendly staff. I was promptly seated and brought my decaf coffee in seconds, excellent service. My server Radine was pleasant and quick on everything, always checking in on me but not too much that I felt rushed or bothered. Ended up going with an order of a waffle with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, and the 2-egg breakfast which came with eggs of your choice, toast of your choice, and home fries. Only took 5-7 minutes and my meal was on the table. The waffle was outstanding, 10/10, best waffle I have had in a long time. Had a vanilla flavor with a slight sweetness, so I didn't need to use too much syrup. The whipped cream was not overly sweet either, and the tartness of the fresh strawberries offset things to form a perfect harmony. Would consume again. The eggs were fine, not much to write home about, but they did go great with the toast, making a fine egg sandwich without any extra pepper or salt required. The toast itself was the most wheat-y wheat toast I have ever had, crunchy crust, grainy flavor, and just enough butter to soften it without being greasy. And let's not forget those home fries, which were wonderfully spicy. But I don't mean "ow hot" spicy, I mean it had a tremendous pepper flavor to them. Normally I've found most locations over-salt their home fries, but here, that is not the case. Very fresh cracked pepper, tasty fried flavor, a slightly crisp exterior, and a soft potato-y interior. Thumbs up. All together my bill only came to a little over $19, which was also a perfect way to end the breakfast. A delicious start to the day.
Checked this place out for the first time last weekend. I can tell you that this is our new breakfast spot! Service is quick and very friendly, most servers have many years of experience and it shows. Coming from the south homefries are a staple for us. They knock these out of the park!! Will be returning very soon and highly recommend them to anyone looking for great food at very reasonable prices and awesome service. Also noticed starting at the end of January they will be serving dinners, excited to see what they offer.
Solid diner. Good is very good and everyone is very friendly.
Typical diner. Catchy names for thier dishes. Nothing special except the French Fries. For what ever reason they are truly amazing. Will probably go back if we're up that way.
We visited again the other day for breakfast. Review at the end. We had breakfast and it was fine, after the toast came out dry as I ordered. My wife had eggs Benedict and she liked it. She likes real maple syrup in her coffee. It was available in a little bottle for a small price. The service was good and the food came out quickly. OK place for breakfast . I can make no comment on any other items. Breakfast again the other day after a medical procedure in Malta. My wife had eggs and a waffle, some bacon and bought another small bottle of syrup. She enjoyed it. I had eggs, home fries and toast. Very good also. A regular breakfast but our waitress was Marissa, with baby, and a ray of sunshine. This mom to be, brightened up our day. Changed the atmosphere up a star.
We wanted to go for a nice breakfast & we find The Ugly Rooster. 🐓 We got there early & it was full but we got a table right away. They served us coffee & then ordered breakfast. French Toast With Strawberries was very good. My man ordered a Farmers Scramble with everything & it was good. Very nice place & we will go again the next time we go to Saratoga springs..
Food was great, bacon was a little crispy for my liking, but overall a great breakfast or brunch place. Very busy so get there early.
Good food. A little pricey for what you get. Friendly staff.
I dined with 6 other people, and everyone loved their food. Huge portions that feels like it was made with love. I do have to say that, even though the French fries were hot and crispy, there was an odd flavor to them.
This was a last-minute breakfast find. My partner and I were in the area and got here at 1pm. The staff was attentive, kind, courteous, and the food was delicious. Would definitely stop here again. :) note to self for next time - queso has peppers in it, and was a bit spicy but still good :)
If you love breakfast food especially pancakes but suffer from a Gluten allergy, come check this place out! You get the real cozy feel of a Diner/Coffee house/Cafe being family owned is a plus. Customer service is punctual and attentive. The seating plan is very open so no matter where your table is you're always in view.
Great food, and service. BUT the staff in the front needs to not allow people waiting for their table to stand on top of people eating at the tables. I’m trying to enjoy breakfast with my family and have conversations and I can’t when the group of folks are leaning on top of the booth talking loud.
In my opinion this place thrives on breakfast. The lunch I had wasn’t that great. I tried their *new* crispy chicken sandwich and it was lacking any taste. Also, whoever breaded the chicken forgot to dry the chicken before breading causing all of the breading to slide right off of the chicken breast. Also I think it may be time to update the tables! They still say Malta Diner all over them!
Good, but it ain't the Rooster in Mechanicville. It's got the same menu, except the prices are higher and the food doesn't come out the same. Corned beef hash here has onions in it. Something about the meat is different, almost like it's processed twice instead of once. The Ham and Swiss club is made the same but it lacks the chief ingredient, love. Now I've never got a Reuben in Mechanicville but the one here has kraut on both sides of the meat. What that means is a soggy bottom bun when it comes out. To me, that's a cool that's never eaten a Reuben before. And for $13.50 when they're $10 in Mechanicville? Please.. Place was packed when we arrived. Jostled to the host to ask about seating. We were lucky enough to score some seats at the diner bar. Took 25 minutes for the food to come out, which is quick considering I counted 40 people in bar section alone. I've never been in a place so busy. I don't hate it, but I'd rather drive the extra 15 minutes to the real Rooster
Went for lunch. The air was stagnant. A/C was not working and it was hot indoors. With it hot in the dining I wonder how hot the kitchen was and if the staff were sweating over the food. The carpet looked 20 years of grime and needs replacement. Food was not that great. Service was slow and felt neglected. Had a tea and the replacement was watered down. Not worth the hype.
Ordered online.. said I would pick up the for at 1230 per choice on the website. Got there and was told they dont prepare the food until you get there.. said it is better to call. That should be noted on the website. I only get a 30 minute lunch. That is nonsense and even gave them a tip. Not a good way to run a business.
Seems like this is an outlier but we didn’t have a great experience. The service was friendly and quick but we were disappointed with the food. My husband’s poached eggs were undercooked (raw whites) and his hollandaise sauce had split. Neither of us enjoyed the breakfast potatoes or the coffee. My poached eggs were fine and so was the toast. Overall we would not return.
Depressing place with worst service. Waited forever for breakfast while waitress was sittin down checking her phone. Food is average, smushed on a tiny plate. Lousy coffee.
I’ve hear good things about The Ugly Rooster Cafe so I thought I’d give it a try. I ordered a waffle, corned beef hash and bacon. The food was served in less than 5 minutes. After cooking for my family for over 50 years, I knew this was not fresh. The bacon was served cold, the waffle was barely warm and the hash was awful! The waiter disappeared and never returned to refill my coffee. He only came over to give me the check. He asked how everything was. I said, “Not good.” I politely told him about the food and his response was “Our hash is made fresh and not out of a can.” I went to pay the bill ($27.55 for one person, for breakfast!!!). The hostess asked “How was everything?” I told her the same. She didn’t seem to care, no apology, nothing. Big signs in the windows looking for cooks should have been my first warning. As an elderly woman, I am tired of being taken advantage of and ripped off. I will never go here again.
