Very delicious and authentic Cantonese food. Many vegetarian and vegan options! Portions are large and meant for family-style sharing. Highly recommended.

Great place for tea. Oolong with milk foam and dragon fruit are both great choices here. Plenty of seating. They have do have some desert choices that we have not tried yet but look good on the display. They do offer milk foam cake deserts. Always clean inside.

I would highly recommend coming for their lunch specials, which is $6.50 per plate. The salt and pepper fish is really good and the beef and egg noodles are a go to item as well.

This is one of the best places in houston when it comes to Asian cuisine. Me and my friends had a fun night eating in here. Their service is best, and the food is economical.

The food here is pretty good! I came here right after the winter storm and it was very crowded and short staffed, but they managed to serve everyone eventually. Their tea is also very good. It’s a good restaurant for large groups.

I enjoyed the fried noodles! It is smaller and has been around for a while, I can tell it is a local favorite.

Amazing little Chinese restaurant. Reasonably priced. With great variety of dishes on their menu. I wish I lived in Houston for this type of restaurants. Also surrounded by ice cream shops and a great super market. Will definitely return.

By far, one of the best places I’ve ever eaten before! I come from San Antonio, so there isn’t any places like this! Amazing experience overall and GREAT prices for the portion received. Definitely will return if I’m in Houston again.

R House is one of my favorite restaurants. They have great food and the staff is so nice. They have great prices and I’ve been going there for years. I love the salt and pepper tofu, string beans, and the egg and bitter melon.

I love this place so much! Great for a large group of people and delicious food every time. Been coming for years. They did a big remodel and redecorated and it feels wonderful to come back. The salt and pepper tofu is my all time favorite dish here!

The food here is consistently the best. The service can be a bit slow since they don’t have enough staff as a very small family owned restaurant. But - I think the wait is definitely worth it! They’re also very vegetarian friendly. Our favourites are: chow ho fun, eggplant and garlic, Chinese broccoli, and salt and pepper fried tofu! The lunch prices are low and still good portions.

I've been going to this restaurant for about 10 years. The staff is pretty small and, depending on how busy it is, you might have to wait for your food. But the hard working ladies here always manage to serve up a delicious meal. I should have written a review so many years ago but I just wrote my first one for another business and i figured it's time to give R House their roses. I usually end up going with a group of anything from 2-12 people and I always have a good meal. I'm always treated well by the staff and even though this restaurant is almost an hour away from where I live I always come for a meal 3-5 times a year because it's worth the trip. It doesn't seem they stay open until 2 am anymore and that's upsetting but the food is still good. I will just have to eat earlier.

Great tasting, authentic Cantonese food. Fairly priced for good sized portions, and lunch pricing is even better! Kind staff. Although, depending on how full it is, wait time for food can be sometimes long - but is very much worth it. Highly recommend!

One of the older Cantonese restaurant in Houston where the price is still fair and big portion, you will feel like home here. The steamed flounder fish was really good, the snow pea leafs was good also. No thrill and no frill Chinese restaurant.

I feel good for my meals here despite dinner or lunch. Every time I come here, I was treated with delicious food and welcoming service. Food always fresh and gorgeous, taste very full. They know how to cook, in the picture, they provide vegetable in the dish that make the taste improved better when serving the beef stew. Price are competitive with other, which means it is better than other places, comparing for the portion and taste. Always come back.

Our one of favorite spot for lunch special . 6.99$/dish . You barely can't find in a lot of place . But only one thing I complain about this place is they are very slow service . You don't expect good service in here . But after come here for a while , we get to use with it . We sit ourselves, get our own plates, bowl and menu . You should try to come early cause lunch time is very crowded and take a long time for food come out.

Great food and good price . Especially salted pork chops . A little bit slow on service and the wait for food come out but no wear can beat the lunch price like this place with deliciousness food .

Small shop and had a pretty good lunch menu and probably one of the last of the affordable lunch deals in Chinatown. The dinner sorted we got was good. The fried tofu and fish were great tonight.

Outstanding Cantonese food! My husband is from Canton and this is definitely one of the most delicious and authentic Cantonese food we’ve had. Despite its humble look, the food here pleasantly surprised us with the high quality. We had both lunch and dinner here in the same day. Highly recommend it!

Quite an underrated establishment with amazing and authentic Chinese cuisine. The braise pork dish is such a wonder, definitely a must-try. Overall the taste is there, flavorful yet simplistic, nothing too fancy but rather well-balanced. Service is wonderful. Staff is so sweet and friendly. Atmosphere may be a bit stuffed, but it makes up with a feeling of coziness, like a true family restaurant. Highly recommended and definitely coming back for more!

10 stars for this Cantonese family restaurant. I just want to say, every plate was bursting with flavor. My favorite was the fried squid, mouth watering, full of flavor with every bite. I also want to point out. Patrons here were very friendly, a few asked if it was our first time. Apparently, a lot of older Asian couples and families fine here. Keep in mind, this is a family restaurant so be prepared to wait for your delicious food.

What a surprise hole in the wall. Chinese food is like Mexican….everybody has an opinion. So why is this restaurant a place to try? Simple Cantonese style food. This is not an extravagant restaurant selling you an environment, this is just simple home food. Simple is not easy to do, because over seasoning is so common in asian cuisine yet R House feels like authentic home cooked meals. Our family loves traveling and eating in Houston ( from San Antonio) and we love trying new restaurants…. This will be a comeback

Most of the Cantonese food that we tried were good. We ordered the scallion pancakes, bo luc lac (shaking beef), and pork with tomatoes - all were good. My daughter ordered the udon soup and she said that it’s really bland. We also had a dinner meeting there and ordered a lot of dishes that were mostly delicious.

I ordered lunch specials here. Ordered 3 dishes. $6.50 each. The lady that answered the phone hung up on me before giving me the total and time frame. I had to call her back to confirm. 30 mins wait for pickup. When I arrived she looked confused and busy calculating the ticket price for another customer. I wait maybe ten more mins there before she pack my orders to pickup. Food overall was good. Portion was good, big box of rice. The outer part of salt pepper tofu was a little hard. Not crispy. So most likely won't order that. the other one bitter melon with eggs and eggplants are good. For the price I'll go back and try their other dishes.

This is a conflicting review, lol. We waited for 75 minutes before our first dish comes out. Then 10 minutes before the next one. My buddy didn’t want to give it higher than a 3 star bc they took so long. But for the price? It’s very affordable. ***The second time we went, we waited 20 minutes so much improved. We ordered the salted pepper fish, good. They use a softer batter, which I don’t prefer. Fish was good in general. The black pepper sauce fish? Pretty awesome as well as the eggplant. The second best items were the snow pea leaves. The weakest dish was the mopo tofu, average, but some people may like the softer tofu dish. Overall for the food and price, 4 star. For the service, WAS 2 star and now 3-4 star. I hypothesize that the waiter/help staff put our ticket at the bottom behind 3 other tables and we got screwed in time. So either they needed more help or this guy messed up. Random: They remodeled several months later (2024). Gray walls and got rid of the pink.

Red Review – A Must-Try Spot! Wow! The food at Red Review was absolutely delicious. I had the salted tofu and flat noodles with vegetables, and both were packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The textures were just right—crispy tofu, tender noodles, and fresh veggies. To top it off, the hot tea was a perfect complement to the meal. Highly recommend ordering it! Overall, a fantastic dining experience. I’ll definitely be back!

We arrived at about 11pm to order some shrimp fried rice to take home. It was reasonably priced and the portions were generous. It was very tasty and there was shrimp throughout. I could smell mildew when I walked in and I wasn't told how long my wait would be. I would recommend the shrimp fried rice at this restaurant.

Service- 👎🏻 extremely slow. Only 1 worker in the front. We waited 15 minutes before someone even came to our table to provide menus. Atmosphere- 👎🏻 definitely not the cleanliest Food- 👍🏻 if you’re willing to put up with everything else, the food is good with great portion sizes and prices.

This is a painful place to review. Before the pandemic it was our favorite restaurant in Chinatown and we went every weekend for a year, and never thought of trying anywhere else. It was absolutely the best combination of quality and price we could find. Then the pandemic hit and staff were laid off and the focus became on delivery and pick up orders and, in short, they did what they had to do to survive. The service eventually became so slow that for us it was intolerable, and we went elsewhere. We tried them again for the first time in a year, maybe even two years, last night. Same hard working, friendly faces, but also the same short staffing and an absurdly long wait time. The food is still good, though not as good as I remember, and the prices are still the best for what you get. The beef brisket and tendon clay pot is my favorite dish at R House and it still beats any I have tried elsewhere. If you have more time than money, R House is a good bet, but if you think time is money, we choose House of Bowls.

Nice cheap eatery in Chinatown. Their price is amazingly cheap for lunch with dozens of selection for $5.5. We ordered the pan fried fish, veggie dish, and pork chop, bitter melon in fried eggs all tasted good. This place opens until 2am so great for late eat out. It is a bit hard to find parking during peak hours for lunch and dinner but worth the wait. We will come back for more.

Went here on New Year’s Day for a quick meal. On the same day its seems they were having their own family new year celebration. We waited patiently for someone to take our order but no one came and we flagged someone. They came and then there was food delay. They brought me my entree but no rice. I had to flag for it twice. We ended up getting our own utensils from the side of the bar. Each time we tried to get someone’s attention, they were talking to their family. It’s a very small restaurant. Maybe like 8-10 tightly squeezed tables. What saves them is their walnut shrimp, that was amazing. But taking into account our entire experience and other food ordered we won’t be going there again.

Lol....for some reason all the places in the plaza close at 10pm. This is the only one open late. Its basically Chinese American. Gets the job done if you are starving. Good service but def not special.

Came here to eat midnight food and we were so disappointed. My friend's noodles dish was tasteless. The seafood and sauce were bland. I ordered curry chicken noodles. Menu said beef in English and chicken in Chinese. It came out to be chicken. The sauce was pour over bland noodle soup. I wish I would just stay home eat instant noodles.

I wish this place would've closed down and not my beloved fufu cafe. I ordered 3 dishes to-go but the one I was really looking forward to was the worst beef noodle soup I have ever had. My dogs loved it so it did not go to waste, but for what I paid made me sad. Only reason I go by these restaurants is because they are open late but the food is horrible. Take your hard earned money somewhere else.

Sorry, first of all, it was a bad feelings of a new year, when me with my friends were going to this restaurant at night at around 11:30pm, we ordered 2 dishes, and we wait for more than an hour until when the other of my friend came, we still have to wait 20-30 more minutes, i dont want to say it but, it was the first day of a new year 2025, we just hope we can get the most wonderful feelings but actually it was disappointed us. When we asked the server, she just say ok but didnt mentioned when will the food gonna be ready!! The food was ok, not good at all, one of them was to salty and the others were just too plain. I got nothing to say more, hope that ur restaurant can improve in the services and also the experience if customers, the food too.

I recently tried out this Chinese restaurant, and it left quite a bit to be desired. The food was okay, nothing to write home about – pretty much in line with what you'd find at other Chinese places in Chinatown. On the plus side, the prices won't break the bank, so there's that. Now, onto the not-so-rosy part: the service. It was slow. I mean, "watching-paint-dry" slow. There was a single waitress bravely attempting to manage the entire dining area, and communication was a bit of a challenge due to the language barrier. We had our own version of charades going on. As for the restaurant's cleanliness, well, let's just say it left something to be desired. Greasy menus and tables strewn with dirty dishes don't exactly scream "sanitary." And don't even get me started on the restroom – it was a sight I won't easily forget. We decided to take the plunge and ordered four entrees, hoping they'd make up for the less-than-stellar experience so far. However, patience was truly tested as we waited a solid 30 minutes for those dishes to grace our table. We realized we hadn't ordered noodles, so we made that request. But after waiting an additional 40 minutes with no noodles in sight, we threw in the towel. In conclusion, unless you have a lot of time to spare and an unshakeable tolerance for slow service and questionable cleanliness, this might not be the place for you. While the prices are reasonable, the overall experience falls short of satisfying.

The sweet and sour sauce was made from ketchup, the meat was only flavored with salt and pepper. The service only talked to us once and took 20 minutes to try and get thier attention to pay the bill before we had to get up and go to the desk to get the ticket. If you can avoid this place do so, litteraly right next door is fufu cafe 10 times better.

This restaurant is under staffed. One server took care the whole restaurant. Food were terrible. Kung Po chicken & ox tail clay pot have no flavor. Stir fried clams was full of sand, sauteed flat noodles was substituted with pork instead of beef and was neglected to inform customer...

Came on a saturday, completely forgot that it gets busy around here at most restaurants, saw this place and was a little confused about not seeing anybody in here… just to realize why we didn’t see anybody in here. I was extremely hungry and just ordered the first thing that came to mind and immediately regretted it when the food was brought out. the chicken was literally just boiled. no seasoning, no sauce, just bland plain naked chicken. I didn’t eat it.. I tried to give it a chance and couldn’t eat it. the spicy chicken however was a lot better and i ate that (it was a tolerable meal, it wasn’t the best but it was tolerable to eat), and pushed the chicken and broccoli to the side. Definitely do not recommend this place if you have other options. I was extremely disappointed in the food and won’t be coming back. However the bland chicken would be a pretty good treat for our cat and that’s the only reason why we took it home! *** UPDATE: we tried feeding some to our cat and even he did NOT want to eat it… which says a lot because he loves to eat ANYTHING!

The food here is pretty good! The service is the worst service I’ve ever gotten in my life. I’ll keep it brief, the workers are straight up rude. Not only was I feeling uncomfortable but the whole restaurant. They mock you, very short, AGGRESSIVE (throwing plates, cute you off), and just have no respect for the customers it was disgusting. I work in the food service industry but gosh this was horrible. A man and his wife noticed the severe was being very rude to us and he came up to us and told us “don’t feel bad about it, if u don’t speak Chinese they aren’t nice to you” it was genuinely sad that someone had to come up to us because he said he comes here all the time and they’re just rude. Cone for the food, the service will shock you

P

If you place an order over the phone in English they will acknowledge and confirm it, but totally dismiss it. When you get there they will deny ever receiving the order and even have the audacity to say you might have dialed the wrong number. At the same time, they are attentively taking orders over the phone in Chinese.

R
Red Zone

If you come here and order first (To-Go) , they serve you last. If you (dine-in) even though there’s a whole line waiting in front, they will serve you first anyways. I ordered my food first, other people came in later. I literally waited 2 hours and the cooks served the food to people who dined in ,…even though I got here before them. Even after they finished eating I still didn’t get my food TOGO. It should only take 10-15 min but they force me to wait 2 hours. Almost 3 hours. No restaurant has ever treated me with contempt unlike here. I am always nice, professional wherever I go. It’s suppose to be 1st come 1st serve. But here they do the opposite… they need to start fix this problem or they will lose happy customers.

Came here because of good reviews, walk out disappointed. It is one of the few restaurants that open late. Fried rice and noddle are very good. You can tell they cook it from scratch and high heat. But the beef taste like a week old. Sweet and sour pork should be easy to make, but they still manage to mess it up. Sauce is bland, gallons of red dye in the sauce. Meat is thin and mostly cover in batter. Pineapple is like a month old. Brisket pot was a bowl of fat. Just get fried rice or stir fry noodles if you decide to come here.

Came in felt unwelcome. Horrible service. Had to wait +20 minutes to get menus and drinks, waited more than a hour for the food. Three people came in after us and they got their food and drinks before us. Did not tip because of the service, and then one of the ladies came after us outside asking us to tip her, made it clear to her that we were not going to tip, so unprofessional and unlikable. 👎🙄

I went here tonight with a group of my friends, we're obviously Hispanic and immediately felt unwanted. The waitress ignored our table for 30 minutes, attended other customers that arrived after us. Once they took our order, one hour passed and we received one plate of food and had to wait an extra 30 minutes to get the rest. The food was not great either, bland, dry, big portions though for $14-$16. Definitely would not recommend this place. The service and food was awful. The waitress demanded a tip despite never once coming to check on our table, speak to us kindly, and avoided us. I have never felt so scammed while paying for my food, I left her know that I did not like or eat my food and she did not care. Tbh I should have not paid but oh well, do not come here.
