Akemi is a popular sushi restaurant known for its fresh, high-quality sushi and adventurous rolls. The Evil Roll and Lion King Roll are frequently praised. Customers appreciate the sake selection and friendly staff, though some find the okonomiyaki too salty.

Such a high quality and adventurist selection of non-basic sushi rolls… and an affordable price.I think it’s a brave thing to honor traditional cooking styles, while merging with modern styles. This place is the sushi of tomorrow amongst the most elegant ambience. When we come here we always try something we’ve never had. It’s a great second date stop.
It had been a while since while since I came to Akemi and some friends were feeling like a sushi night so I suggested this place. I’m so glad their food is still good as I remembered it and my favorite roll will always be their Evil Roll! So delicious we tried a variety of different and were happy with our choices.
This restaurant serves delicious Sushi. The fish tasted fresh and the service was good. The service might be a bit slow before dinner but I'll be worth it.
Excellent. I’ve been here several times since 2022 and this was the best. The okonomiyaki is crunchy and amazing. The salmon plate is always great. Salmon is super high quality. The tempura is light and delicious. The only thing I would change is slightly brighter lighting.
Randomly picked this place for lunch and my group was so pleased! We ordered miso soup, salmon sashimi, lion king roll, and asemi rolls. They were all delicious, especially the lion king roll. Service was excellent and the ambience was lovely. We will remember this place the next time we are in Berkeley, for sure.
Our new to go sushi spot in Berkeley. The staff is always friendly and the food is always top notch. Love the variations of nigiris and rolls!
It is a fulfilling experience. The combination dinner is of good size. The Waygu beef is soft. The salmon is good. Shirashi is delightful. Tampura is yummy. Overall I like this place. My family wants to come back again. I am impressed with the Japanese maple trees that they have outdoor. Those are not cheap.
Fresh sushi with excellent sake selection. I usually go for the sushi, but I'm in LOVE with their pork belly dish and the slightly tangy, mustard sauce they put on it. The restaurant's modern decor is not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoy the huge slab of wood that's the sushi bar and the fun urchin-like lighting fixtures. They put different touches on some of their dishes which makes it special fun. For instance, I've never seen yuzu panne cotta before - delicious, creamy and tart. Highly recommend it.
Hands down my favorite sushi place in the Bay Area. Order anything off the menu, you can't go wrong. Worth traveling from out of town to go to. Good for small groups and special occasions if you want to spend a bit to have an exceptional meal.
Upscale Edomae sushi establishment, where everything's a little fresher, and a little more well put together than your average sushi restaurant. Fish is absolutely fresh, and what really stands out here is a very special selection of Sake, served ice cold in a small box of water. As usual. I got the sushi and sashimi, and one roll. I was very impressed by the freshness. Interior is quiet and dark, a nice place to talk, centrally located on Solano, with a really nice staff. Highly recommended for dates, or romantic dinners.
Very delicious, fresh, and authentic. The lobster ramen was a particular treat, and the agedashi, hotategai, Hokkaido seaweed salad, and the rolls: lion king, baked scallop, spider, and double hamachi were very good. They did not honor our special request via OpenTable but perhaps that was on OpenTable's end. Servers were very nice.
Excellent ramen and sushi, a rare restaurant that can do both well. It's a nice date atmosphere

Mainly had sashimi and sushi - excellent quality and beautifully made. They were also incredibly accommodating to us and smoked some salmon for those who couldn't eat raw fish! 11/10 would go again.

This place was fantastic. The service was 100%. The restaurant ambiance was five star. I really liked this restaurant, but I didn't think that cost was accurate for the taste. I thought the food was good but everything else was incredible. I love how they do their sake set up too!
Akemi had an enjoyable ambiance with a wood and stone feeling to the place. The lighting definitely sets the mood. The garlic edamame was phenomenal! A must get. We also very much enjoyed the Hawaii role.

I had the Miso soaked Salmon dinner and a Rock and Roll. The bits of char on the Salmon seemed to hide the flavor of the Salmon and the Miso. The service was excellent.
Had a mixed experience here. The sweet shrimp quality is excellent. The okinawayaki is excessively oily and salty, exacerbated by the sauce. The black cod is alright, but the overdose of okinawayaki makes it a bit overwhelming. The karaage is good, but the overall discomfort caused by the excessive oil and salt, particularly in the okinawayaki, impacts the overall experience.
The experience overall was good but food quality was inconsistent. We reserved a table through OpenTable for a Saturday at noon. There was plenty of seating and we picked a table with ample sunlight inside after showing proof of vaccination. The baked scallops roll came first and was amazing! So creamy and delicious with a great balance of crunch from tht roll. Next, the 10 piece chef's choice sashimi and unagi don arrived. The sashimi was disappointing. The fish didn't feel the best and left a poor aftertaste. It was the opposite of melt in your mouth goodness that left us wanting more. The unagi don was really good. The unagi really carried the dish. The rice was just rice and it came with some steamed broccoli. I've had more compelling unagi dons elsewhere that include other toppings to compliment the unagi. I still loved the soft, warm and delicious unagi pieces. I didn't feel the unagi was well supported by the rest of the dish. Service was courteous and attentive. The feel in the restaurant was nice, quiet and relaxing. I would come back to try other items but sadly will pass on the sashimi.

As a rule, I like to order a selection of nigiri but I found the selection quite limited. Tai was very tough so I mentioned it to the server. The sushi chef presented a complimentary chu toro by way of an apology. That was very kind of him. Spicy tuna seems to just be tuna mixed with sriracha so was disappointing. Unagi was overly sweet and a little dry. Shrimp tempura inside a roll that I ordered was chewy and overcooked. I think I am obviously very spoiled after years of going to Sugata at the bottom of Solano and before that, Sushi Banzai on Camelia in Berkeley, as I know a lot of reviewers love this place. Sadly, I shall not be returning.

Well…Sushi in Safeway or even 99 ranch has a better taste than here. Sashimi is TERRIBLE (with this price). Ramen is no better than the instant noodles (see the “poached eggs”). Okonomiyaki is too salty. Will never come again.
