Westmead Bar and Restaurant

Went there on the 11th June 2021 for my wife's birthday the meals were superb and our waiter was so friendly nothing was to much trouble for what we asked for

Friendly reception, well organised and warm room perfect for our needs and ideal location for our member

Was here for 3 weeks and the staff were lovely. Made me feel so welcome and safe. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

This really is a first class venue. Just everything was perfect. I can not recommend this place enough.

I have to admit I've not eaten in the restaurant, I go regularly and eat in the bar area, but the seating is well laid out and very clean I've eaten a few things from the menus and I can't complain, however I normally find myself in there on a Thursday 2-4-1 on pizza's. Big rustic style pizza from a stone oven cooked in front of you so you know it's for real and not premade out back and thrown in an oven. Averaging about £13 a pop. The bar has a good selection of drinks and there are normally a few ales on tap too. Give it a go on pizza night.

We visited to try the festive afternoon tea and had a great time. The food was good, and the service was exceptional! The staff were really attentive and helpful. We will definitely be heading back; we’ve heard good things about the pizza so keen to try that next.

Staff excellent, great service, food; amazing! Room is a bit chilly, in fact whole place is on the chilly side but I expect it's because it's quiet. Cleaning ok. Only here for a couple of nights but would stay again. Theo in the bar; top service. Theo is helpful and polite and top marks to the chef who accomodated my food preferences.

Food menu good food cold ...staff ...had to keep chasing bar staff to serve

A great find. The waiters were polite and efficient. The food was tasty and we didn't have to wait too long for our mains, although the starters took a little bit longer than usual. A lovely atmosphere and ample parking. Slightly pricey but the food and service softened the blow.

We shared afternoon tea with my family, for my Mums 90th Birthday. It was so quiet there? We did enjoy meeting with the family, but not another soul to be seen? The Ladies toilets weren't sparkling, so I flushed each one to get rid of unwanted loo paper! Standards as we call it was in Retail. Sorry to have to report this, but little things matter.

Busy hotel very popular with wedding receptions, although staff were challenged with the volume of customers, food reasonable and a good range of drinks.

The food quality was good. However, by entrance severe fish smell was really bothering.

Food OK had better for the money service was lacking wasn't offered pudding 😒

Fairly expensive for what I assume was frozen produce. Food not terrible but wish I'd gone further afield.

This place is practically on my doorstep, great I thought. Its a pleasant enough place never too busy, we sit in the pizza restaurant, the pizzas are excellent, cooked too order. The cocktails are expensive but for a treat OK. BUT.. they are never the same, we have been 4 times now, and paying £8-9 for a cocktail expect consistency. First couple of times OK, last twice, had to ask what it was as nothing like previous ones! When I asked what he had put in it, quoted the menu.. Er yes I know what should have been in it!! Gave up when he offered to top it up with vodka!!! Shame... Could have been the start of a beautiful friendship. Lol. Back to the Red lion.

This used to be the best Sunday dinner going, but visited recently and was very disappointed. . Unhelpful and unknowledgeable bar staff and the dinner was awful. Potatoes were hard and cold , soggy veg and the whole dinner was bland we couldn't eat it . I also asked for a drinks menu. The waitress looked lost. She then returned with a pice of printed paper, folded in half, with the drinks list.... some of the list was printed upside down so you had to keep turning it around to read it! A hotel without a proper dinks/wine list..... come on Westmead .. And whilst we're at it.. we were charged £2 for a dash of blackcurrant in one of the drinks!! £2.. extortionate! Real shame to see this place go down so much since covid.

When we made our hotel reservation I enquired about whether the restaurant would be open on Sunday evening. The person I spoke to went to enquire and came back to confirm that it would be open. On arrival it was confirmed that we could eat in the restaurant. At 6.30 in a chance conversation I was informed that the restaurant was only serving until 7. We arrived in the restaurant at 6.40 and was told that the dining room was closed at 6.30. I complained, I had driven from Dorset, with my 90 year old brother and we were tired and hungry, it's the night of the football final and it's pouring with rain and the last thing I needed was to drive again in order to find a meal. I was very angry and annoyed. A young woman, I think called Jeanie, worked hard to help us and explained that there was some food left from the lunch menu that we could have. She did her best. The plates of food that arrived were piled high but the food was very disappointing, tough meat and very hard vegetables. I was grateful to eat mine but my brother was unable to eat his. On every level this was not a good experience. And then we learn that breakfast is only served until 8.30 am. This is not a cheap hotel.

The only good thing was it was buy one get one free !! Had to send pizzas back,came out burnt,I mean black not a slight tinge,and the cocktails were glasses of ice with a shot squeezed in ! Not a good experience,keep trying to give this place a chance but it never lives up to it's quite attractive appearance.!!

Very limited menu. Both ordered the roast beef to be told they had run out so opted for the pork. Waitress came back after a couple of minutes to say only 1portion of pork left but chef could defrost some beef !! Should have left then but agreed to it. Must admit the beef was the only half decent think. Yorkshire puddings and veg were barely warm. Wouldn't return

Worst Sunday lunch l have had meat mainly fat vegetables tasteless cold instead of pork cold gammon no taste manager not helpful avoid if you like good value and tasty food

Waited 55 minutes for adult meals which weren't great, they forgot 3 year old child's meal which was a mini burger and chips then the burger came out and was adult size and burnt. Terrible service and food

Avoid the Westmead Hotel ! There are so many other options for Sunday lunch, McDonald's or your local Chipshop would be a preferable. I ordered roast pork, was served a scrap of Gammon. I attempted to discuss this with the manager on duty. I can only assume he was having a bad day, he not only ignored my concern but avoided any eye contact or requests for a moment of his time. A young lady attended to me and made a sincere apology on his behalf.
