Couldn't have been better, the staffs made sure that we are absolutely comfortable and provided detailed services to our needs. The food were melting in my mouth. So much flavour, and nicely structured course meal. They also were considerate to people who couldn't eat pork, and made sure to take out all the ingredients.
Honestly the lunch set here was one of the best i have had. It was so clean and 정갈해. You could tell there was a lot of thought that went into everything from the rice, main protein, to individual side dish 반찬. Dessert was ok but the lunch really did impress me. Pretty good service and the folks down stairs were super friendly explaining the cars and the Genesis house itself. Worth a stop if you are in the area.
Food is service is as amazing as always. I don’t do reviews, I gatekeep. But this time we had the honor of being served by Minh. If you haven’t dined here yet you should definitely consider. Still a shining star for me among, beating out at least 20 Michelin restaurants I’ve had. Executive Chef Shin Min Cheol’s food is something people should be grateful to have. Another Anniversary here in the books. Thank you for always giving us the experience we expect. This was our lunch (a la carte), trust me dinner tasting menu is amazing as well. Just look at this photo “Hills with a meadow of flowers”.
Took my husband there for his birthday dinner and enjoyed the experience from beginning to end. We got there 30 minutes before our reservation time and stopped in to see Chroma, the current art installation on the basement level. It can be a quick walk through or you can linger and experience it at your leisure. I really enjoyed it and truth be told it is how I heard about the place/restaurant. Afterwards we headed to the 2nd floor for our dinner reservation. The restaurant is quiet with soft music so you can hear your conversation - a nice welcome from the usual restaurants in the meat packing district. We ordered a la carte and enjoyed the meal from beginning to end. Service was attentive but not overly in your face. At the end of the meal, my husband and I “fought” over the check to which I mentioned it was for his birthday (he hates celebrating his birthday and insisted it wasn’t). Our server Deionte picked up on it and within minutes, brought out a gesture from the staff - a delicious strawberry sorbet with a candle for my husband’s birthday. It was so thoughtful - we really appreciated it. Thank you for making his non-birthday-birthday dinner a success!
First time at genesis house did not disappoint!! There was some initial confusion about access to the free exhibit but was able to sort and visit before our dinner reservation. Did the tasting menu for dinner and I was hesitant as I’m not super adventurous in food but every course was DELISH. They do their own take on classic Korean dishes but still managed to maintain the authentic taste to my pleasant surprise. Even the broths that went with few of the courses were all different but all so good, cleaned my plate. Food portions was perfect, not too light or too much, well balanced. To top it all off they assisted me in a special surprise for my partner’s birthday with a raspberry sorbet and candle and some additional desserts on the house which was truly appreciated. Just before leaving we were given a Polaroid picture, nice touch. Will def be back, thank you to everyone who made our evening a wonderful experience!
I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the Genesis House in meatpacking district in New York, NY, USA. Genesis House is truly a hidden gem — located on the second floor of the Genesis car dealership, which you access through the showroom, either by stairs or elevator. The restaurant offers both a tasting and an à la carte menu; we went for the latter. We started with the beef tartare with egg yolk, beautifully seasoned with chili and tomato. It was spicy, creamy, and perfectly balanced — an absolute success. The lobster rice followed, served with a salmon roll and a generous piece of lobster. Presented in a striking, almost artistic way, it revealed even more depth of flavor once mixed together. The short rib with serrano pesto and broccolini was likely the highlight of the evening — tender, flavorful, and simply outstanding. For dessert, we tried the banana puff pastry with candied banana and banana milk ice cream — a delicious explosion of flavor. We also enjoyed a soothing ginger and citrus infusion to finish the meal. Every dish was executed with precision and creativity — worthy, in my opinion, of a Michelin star. The interior design is spectacular — rich wood tones, refined architecture, and even a library seating area where guests remove their shoes and dine close to the floor in the traditional Korean way. The kitchen is semi-open, and the staff are warm, attentive, and professional. Considering the exceptional quality, the pricing is very reasonable. Some tables offer a lovely view over the Hudson River, just steps away from Little Island. Genesis House instantly became one of my new favorite restaurants in New York.
What an experience! Talk about the total package - this place has it all. If you aren’t familiar with the Genesis House (i.e. me, despite walking past by many times), the lobby is the showroom for Genesis, the basement has the special exhibition throughout the year, and the 2nd floor is the dining room. If you have a dining reservation here, you can visit the exhibition before or after the meal. Jose, our friendly host, helped us with navigating the planning. The menu features a tasting menu and à la carte. For a restaurant that deserves a Michelin star, it is truly a gem to discover a very reasonably priced tasting menu. Since the four of us aren’t particularly hungry, we ordered a bunch from à la carte to share. Our server, Patrick, was great at recommendations - beef tartare (order with the lotus chips), rice cake, pork noodles (daeji guksu), and short rib (tteokgalbi). Not only were the dishes beautifully presented, despite the simplicity of the name, each dish was carefully executed with traditional Korean cooking while adding a modern twist to it. The beverage menu was very fun too! We had the k-town soju pear + perilla (tasty and sweet), Hanbang (balanced), and two different kinds of makgeolli (try mixing both into one special kind). The service was outstanding! Our water glass was never empty, the service was attentive but not overwhelming. We had a wonderful 5-year anniversary celebration with our family at Genesis House. We will return for the tasting menu next time!
Visited Genesis House for the Chroma: Hues Between the Chaos light show, and it was great! It’s about a 10–15 minute walk-through experience with stunning displays of lighting and color transitions. Apart from the show, I also visited their library and terrace on the 2nd floor. The library is super cute — a cozy spot to sit, relax, and read. Downstairs, they have a lineup of Genesis cars in their showroom, which is definitely worth checking out. I tried the G80 sedan model and was blown away by its features. As a Hyundai owner, I could relate to the feel of the car, but it stood out with its incredibly comfortable seats and tons of additional features. Their latest model even has a built-in massager, which is mind-blowing!
I dined here more than 15 times. There are many amazing restaurants in NYC, yet Genesis House is one of my most favorite eateries. A great ambience that gives you calmness, collection of excellent quality plates, creative translation of Korean cuisine always made me and my fellow diners put our thumbs up.
Went for a cup of tea during a quiet afternoon. Sat in the library area. Originally wanted coffee but then I saw how tea-focused the menu was and switched. Very tranquil and was able to sit there a while. There's a main dining area, tea/library section, and outdoor terrace. Pricey, but it's what we would call "자리 값", yes? (Price of place/taking up space)
A quiet and peaceful space for tea, cocktails, or a meal. We had the lunch set which come with vegetarian bibimbap, a choice of protein, and sides. I went with the grilled gochujang chicken which was juicy and tender. My partner had the boiled pork belly. It was also tender and flavorful. We moved to the tea seating area after lunch. Service was impeccable and staff were friendly. Highly recommend if you looking for a place to chill with good food and drinks
Amazing dinner with an excellent pairing of Korean spirits. Beautiful space and outstanding service. Michelin Star quality for a comparatively reasonable price. My husband and I had the tasting menu with spirits pairing. We enjoyed each course and pairing. Outstanding flavors. Our waitress was excellent. She was assisted by Genesis, the head bartender. They both provided great service and treated us very well. We will be back!
Beautiful pop up real forest with flowers. You get to see Genesis house where they have the Genesis car line but you also have food on a different floor as well as you will see downstairs is a floral and forest exhibit. It is free and we didn't really wait much online more than five minutes. And you're allowed to take pictures even with the flash and the flowers and the bamboo and The tree trees are all real and beautiful. And there's a beautiful natural smell of floral and tree life.
Genesis House is the brain child of the Genesis brand, a luxury car designed by the Hyundai. This place combines an art exhibition, tea room, and restaurant all into one alongside their car exhibition rooms. The cars are quite nice looking, and the staff are friendly to show you around the cars and showcase the interiors. The tea room and restaurant were unfortunately booked, but the staff were friendly enough to let us walk around upstairs and observe the library, which was designed very nicely and gave off a wonderful feel that we want to come back and experience on another day. What we came here for was The Forest Within, the art exhibition designed by Gwyneth Paltrow and the Genesis House team. The line was pretty long, but the exhibit was not that big and the line moved quite quickly. The exhibit itself was wonderfully designed, with large peonies dotting the rocks and great areas for a photo opportunity. The walkways are a bit small so it may be hard to take larger group photos, but individual shots are nice. Overall a wonderful experience and looking forward to trying the food.
My partner and I have been fairly frequent diners at the Genesis House with our most recent visit just yesterday, and we have been consistently been impressed by the quality of both the food and service. The set menus, for both lunch and dinner, are thoughtfully curated, and the wine and soju pairings offer excellent value and complement the cuisine beautifully. In fact, I'd say this restaurant surpasses the experience offered by many one-Michelin-starred establishments in NYC. While my experiences have been overwhelmingly positive, I have a couple of suggestions that could further elevate the dining experience: 1. Tableware Harmony: The restaurant's fusion of traditional and modern Korean influences is reflected beautifully in the food. However, this aesthetic isn't always mirrored in the tableware. For instance, the placemats we had were somewhat distracting and seemed at odds with the overall design of the tables and plates. We ultimately requested they be removed, which did improve the aesthetic. A more cohesive approach to tableware would enhance the overall dining experience. 2. Ambiance: The open layout, while generally appealing, can occasionally be a bit distracting. Because the restaurant shares space with a cafe, there are times when tourists or other visitors come into the dining area, particularly near the windows, to take photos. This activity can disrupt the dining experience. Perhaps some subtle delineation between the cafe and restaurant areas, or strategic placement of seating, could mitigate this issue and create a more serene atmosphere for diners."
Overall, this place is cute. It’s above a car dealership, which is still a little strange but it’s cute. The first time I went the drinks were just OK so I personally won’t get mixed drinks so the second time I went we got wine. My experience here have always been good when it comes to staff and the space. The drinks is iffy, but the food is also good. I may actually consider coming back here again for a third time which is very rare for me. Food – everything I ate was good and everything looked very presentable, beautiful even however, they stand out here with the tuna tartare. However, the tuna tartare does not come with chips or bread, which is kind of annoying, but the staff did recommend to get these crispy chip appetizer as a great side for that and honestly kudos to the staff that was a genius idea and it made me very happy. They should literally be served together. It doesn’t make sense. Everything I have was good. Everything made me happy. I think I made noise noises delicious noise noises every time and it made me very happy. The wine pairing was good. See the pics I attached because come on. It’s beautiful. Atmosphere – ambience - the space is cute however, I always find it quite empty and a a little too quiet. But at night time it was during the day and it’s really comfortable. It’s a huge space and as I mentioned, it’s above a car dealership so after you’re done, go look at cute cars the staff here is always attentive and always amazing and honestly they really set up the standard. However they took my jacket and they didn’t didn’t take my friends jackets so strange. Go for the food go back for the food. It was so good.
Absolutely gorgeous restaurant and unique experience. We started with the light show downstairs prior to dinner. The food was all beautifully presented, however we only really enjoyed the first few dishes. We had a tasting menu and probably would have been better ordering a la carts, as duck and the spare ribs were not something I would typically ever eat. That being said, the spare ribs were macerated into an almost meatball and I don’t think that presentation is something I would ever want to see again. Desert was good. Restaurant was incredibly cold inside, which also made the experience a little less well received.
Went for drinks, stayed for snacks and dessert. Elevated Korean inspired fare and drinks. Very accommodating. Views of little island are probably nicer in the day time. The terrace was closed due to wind but not much of a view from terrace anyway. LL interactive experience was better than expected but pretty simple and straightforward.
We went to the Genesis House for the CHROMA: Tales Between Hues. The exhibit was absolutely amazing! It wasn't as big as I thought it would be. It took us probably 15-20 minutes to see everything, but it was gorgeous! We went around 12pm so it wasn't crowded at all. I wish we were given the opportunity to be able to record in peace. I felt a little rushed, there were a couple of people in front of me that were sort of just standing in the way and obviously I was not going to rush them. The security guard didn't say anything to them, and we were waiting for a whiiiile, but when I was able to go up and take pictures the security guard sort of rushed me, which I didn't like. Because he didn't say anything to the woman in front who took quite some time, lol. We were offered tea before we left which I loved. I will be going back, and it will be to finally try out the restaurant
food is visually impressive and sounds good on the menu but fails to deliver. the seollongtang myeon (beef noodle soup) was almost flavorless, and came barely lukewarm. the lobster bap looked beautiful but the flavors didnt come together in a cohesive way. the tteokgalbi is served in a burger like patty form. it was cooked fine just wasn’t very interesting.
