So glad I found this gem on the block a while ago. The pastries here are unique, delicious, and the choices are beyond. I often find myself not knowing which to get and end up with half a dozen varieties. I highly recommend the yolk pastries , their assortment of sliced cakes and the egg tart! The classic pineapple bread is so yummy as well.

My boyfriend and I stumbled across this place while navigating our way through Chinatown. We found ourselves walking in with no hesitation as the $1 egg tart sign on the outside accompanied by the sweet and buttery smell of the tarts wafted through the streets. To no surprise, the egg tarts were absolutely wonderful. Warm, sweet, creamy, flaky, and buttery, we couldn’t ask for anything more from a mid-day pick-me-up snack. We knew we had to visit once more before leaving the city. Before catching our bus at 9am a couple days later, we hurriedly made our way to Bake Culture to pick up a few breakfast items for our bus ride. After quickly scanning the racks of baked goods, we decided on a scallion bun, sausage bread, and of course—a couple of egg tarts. Although the egg tarts and scallion bread were great (as expected), the sausage bread was out of this world. It had a buttery flavor that’s hard to describe in words; almost an umami flavor hard to find in such a simple food such as this one. Although I could go on for days about our pleasant experience at Bake Culture, all I can really say is that you need to go try it for yourself. We’ll visit again soon.

Super friendly staff & great COVID-19 precautions taken. The egg tarts here are sold individually packaged 2 for $3. I came in too late in the day to try anything else unfortunately. Clean and nice interior. I'd come here again someday to try more of their baked goods.

We are delighted to have this great bakery in our neighborhood. We love everything we've tried - little sandwiches, great pastries, and even the birthday cake we ordered! That was particularly wonderful. If you're around this place, I highly recommend it.

Small place but really nice. Sit on the swing chairs feeling the sunshine while enjoying those savory breads. What a nice day! The pineapple bread smells delicious and the egg tarts is crispy outside and soooo soft inside, like pudding, which is warm! Sweet, tasty and special sale two only for$1.00! But seems like 9am is too early to see all kinds of breads,I couldn’t find anything else i like.So if u are going to eat here,I will recommend 9:15-30 in the morning.Foods would be most fresh and various.

I LOVE LOVE all the pastries there and their drinks are just over the top notch along with how quick all the staff make it!! I’ve been there since day one and the all the staff know how to treat their customers right. My favorite worker there is a female who looks to be around 5’3. She started working a year ago and her customer service won’t disappoint!!

I love their egg tarts! They’re one for $1 and it doesn’t really get cheaper than that. It’s very creamy and almost caramelized on the top. They’re baked fresh all day but when they come out of the oven they go fast! The crust is flakey but keeps its shape and doesn’t crumble when you pick it up. It’s also not a greasy feeling on the bottom.

Love at the first visit!!!! The baked goods are top notch in quality and taste. The bread is soft, fluffy and buttery while the filling is at the right level of sweetness. Personal opinion, this bakery is way better then the Paris Baguette😋

Love this place! When ever I'm in the city I have to stop by and pickup a lot of things. Best place to eat and breast prices for Manhattan. You get more bang for your buck! Love the egg sandwiches and the fish sandwiches plus cakes!!!

We tried a variety of sweet and savory items and all were excellent. Notably, I had the best egg tart ever. I seek these out wherever I can, including San Francisco's Chinatown and LA. These are essentially custard pastries with an oh so flakey crust. Also a mango cake was addictively outstanding! can't wait to come back.

Amazing bakery, everything is so tasty and fresh. The stuff is very nice. Especially the egg tart omg and the Japanese cheesecake is something else. Love love love. Oh forgot about their Matcha Latte probably the best that I ever had!!!

Lol the sitting areas are super neat it’s like little log chairs the food is very simple to grab and all their options looked great all the bread looked super soft and fresh and everything was very reasonably priced. It was super delicious!!!

A spot across the bridge in the heart of China town. I love the fruit teas, which are refreshing and tasteful. I also love the sponge cake if they have because the items sell out. Delightful pastries that not only look beautiful they taste well and aren’t overly sweet.

A very nice and cozy bakery place around the corner of bowery street. Bake culture has its own vibe to the bustling city of new york. I stopped by while on my way to the malaysian restaurant not too far from Bake culture. To my surprise, this place has amazing selections of bread, beverage and especially their home made egg tarts! I wish I had bought more of the egg tarts. Mind you, I bought 8 pieces of egg tarts and still thinks that I need to buy more. Flaky, creamy and sweet all into one is one way to describe their egg tarts.

Came to try their egg tarts and got the portuguese ones. One of the few bakeries that charge tax on goods and only 2 pack, no single which is a bummer but oh well. Overall delicious egg tarts, firm on both the crust and cream, would try again.

Me and my husband stumbled on this place and I am so glad we found this place. We had a chicken sandwich and red bean bread and both were delicious! Red bean bread was super moist, soft, fluffy and red bean paste was not too sweet. I wish I bought more if I knew how good their breads were going to be! Next time when I am around the area, I will definitely try their other breads!

Great ambiance, friendly staff, and very tasty egg tarts. It's not the biggest cafe but if you are in the area make sure to stop by for at least the superb egg tarts. The crust is flaky and super tasty. The tart is a bit on the eggier side and similar to the egg tarts you get in Hong Kong vs the Portuguese style you may find in Portugal or Macau. It's pretty cheap as well - highly recommended!

Where do I even start? This bakery has the cutest little croissant chairs in the front. The breads that I bought with my friends were sooo good! I am pescatarian and my friend is vegetarian and I was glad they had many options for us bread wise. We tried the fish sandwich, sweet coconut bread, and the mooncakes. Their mooncakes are so delicious and for someone like me who doesn't like mooncakes, the taro mooncake surprised me. The filling was a taro mochi and the outside tasted like the traditional mooncake. The employee (young man) assisted me with choosing the pastries I'd like. He was very helpful and kind and got to everyone even though he had a full store. For the service, price, and quality of the pastries, I definitely recommend this bakery! Btw they have bubble tea cake but you have to preorder.

The Taro latte was a new experience and I’m glad I tried it! It’s bright fruity and obviously a fun purple color.

The Bowery location is my favorite. The egg tarts are what attracted me in the first place and then discovered so much more. I also have to compliment the staff, especially one who's name is Miracle. She is always so helpful and friendly. I really like the 3 for $10 special. This place can be addictive so be warned. 😂 Also, when you buy a pastry you can get a coffee for $1.00. Great deal

This awesome bakery is located in front of the Manhattan Bridge, in the heart of Chinatown ! I love shopping here for my fresh pastries and coffee ! My favorites are roast pork bun, German pudding, coconut pastry, the chocolate crisp cookie, the chicken cucumber sandwich, the scallion toast, egg tarts, the Japanese cheese cake , and all their cakes are delicious + fresh ! Most of all, I love the service by “Miracle “, she is helpful, very nice to all customers and very friendly - as if you walked into her home for dinner ! What a gracious host she is @ the bakery and lovely as well ! 💕 If you haven’t patronaged this bakery, one should, it’s a very nice place to meet a friend for tea, delicious coffee or a specialize drink over nice music and a great atmosphere! They have a special running for specific bake goods 3 for $10.00…. Can’t beat that 💕☕️

This is a cute little bakery. It’s a chain, but don’t let that fool you. Bake Culture has a huge selection of sweet and savory baked goods. I've passed by the bakery on several occasions while in Chinatown and was able to go in today for the first time. They have so many food options whether you're in the mood for sweet or savory. The staff was a lady named Miracle who was so kind and helpful. I really appreciated the cleanliness of the bakery and saw Miracle wiping down the seats after each customer. Definitely stop by the shop for the delicious food, $0.50 coffee (with purchase), and the vibes!

These are the BEST egg tarts I've ever had in my ENTIRE life. Usually they're sitting out in the cold in other bakeries, but these guys bake it fresh and serve it steaming hot. Every single bite tasted creamy and heavenly! I visited when they were selling egg tarts for a $1 each. I tried one, loved it, and instantly went back to give them more money. I bought 4 more for my mom since she always bought them for me when I was a kid.

M

Excellent for a Chinatown bakery. My favorite here are their egg-custard cups for $1 each which are flavorful with beautifully flaky pastry shells. Add excellent drip coffee to their very good baking and Bake Culture is worth your time if you happen to already be in Chinatown.

The pastries were individually packaged which means they stay fresh all day. Stopped by around 6pm on a Sunday. Limited selection but quality goods. I got an almond croissant, a shredded coconut topped pastry and a lemon filled braid. All were light on the sugar and pillowy soft. I would go back.

K

It was very nice and fancy in there. There was a swing in the front. Everything looked so delicious. The fact that everything was already prepackaged looks very neat. There are all sorts of different pastries from buns to cakes and bread. Had a few unique items for Chinese New Year too. Only thing is... everything seemed a bit pricey.

The bubble tea is pretty good. The passion fruit and lime bubble tea is refreshing! The strawberry bubble tea is sweet and milky. We did not try the pastries. I love the swing seat, even though it's not actually a swing.

I only buy the strawberry cakes at this store. An 8 inch cake cost around $36. It comes with candles and a knife. When I don't want Taipan cake, I go here. It's similar to a Paris Baguette or Tous Les Jours. The breads are pricey so I avoid them. I took out one star b.c the consistency of the cake taste is not the same. I bought their cakes 3 times and they all tasted different. The cake with the Logitech mouse tasted too sweet and the design was lazily finished. The second one with the macaroon was the best tasting one. The third one with strawberry glaze is different, and would rate it last. Cake is moist (that's right i said it) and fruits taste fresh for the most part. They have green tea, blueberry, and chocolate cakes too. But i have not tried them yet. Customer service was good; staffs speak English and Chinese.

The taro bun is decent, the sweet potatoes are literally sweet potatoes covered in crepe sheets, and the almond croissant doesn't have much almond filling.

K

After a disappointing lunch, walked by the bakery and tried their red bean bun. Very good. Their bubble tea wasn’t sickly sweet either. So all in all, a great experience.

J
Juan Lima

Some of baked goods in this chain bakery is very unique and some of the pricier items are very delicious. We had a few items for take out. The Taro Danish will filled with taro and the Strawberryholic had one of the best fillings I had in a pastry in a long time. It was oozing with cream with every bite! The only disappointment was the Matcha Bubble Milk Tea which didn't resemble or taste like Matcha. The bubbles had a hardened center. It wasn't worth snapping a pic .

A break from the craziness of Chinatown! Calm music, wooden and minimalistic decoration. Simple place. Love the croissant 🥐 and baguette 🥖 seat rests inside the bakery. They offer 3 pastries x $10! Good deal! I haven’t ate yet what I bought but I like it so far. They have a good variety of sweet and salty pastries. Also boba 🧋 drinks.

After our Mid-Autumn Festival dinner, I insisted we hunt for mooncakes even though most bakeries were probably closed. That's how I wound up at Bake Culture, where we gorged on the perfectly made (though pricey) Purple Taro and Red Bean mini-Mooncakes. The Condensed Milk Bun was a disappointment--not enough filling, but the classic Coconut Bun was perfect. While Chinese/Taiwanese bakeries abound here, Bake Culture edges out in my memory by being open late enough to make a good post-dinner dessert spot. Also gotta love the seat backs that are shaped like croissants and baguettes.

Nellie R

Went in this cute lil bakery trying to find a cake for a birthday, they had a few small cakes, we needed a larger sized cake. Compared to the pictures before going in, different designs at the time from what I recorded. They did have a huge selection of pastries and some sandwiches. And different tea drinks that we ended up getting as well. I bought a red bean bun and did like it. Indoor seating was blocked off at this location.

S
Sharon Man

I got here at 10:30am on a Saturday, and the trays were mostly bare - they have a nice tray system where the tray slides out smoothly and the glass lifts up so you can pick up your bun of choice (of the 6 options left). The buns that were left were fine, but not tastier than the other cheaper offerings in other local bakeries. The roast pork bun was pretty standard a but overpriced at $1.75, the coconut cocktail bun was fine, the pineapple pork floss bun was not worth $2.50. the buns were all cold, partly due to the way the cold air would blow in anytime the door opened. Probably should get there early if you want to have buns to choose from.

A
Albert K

Really horrible pork BBQ. No meat, no sugar, and extremely small for $2.50. You can definitely do better everywhere in Chinatown. Really good grapefruit tea drink. Extremely unique, full of fruit, and crushed ice. I would definitely get that again. Overall, their pastries were not good at all, possibly because it was the end of the day. Drinks? Definitely. Will come by again for drinks

The milk roll was good until I tasted the center, the cream in the center was frozen and it does not taste good. The fish sandwich was good.

So this is the new kid around the block with a lot of positive hype. On my third attempt, the bakery is finally opened to customers with inventory, the first two times I walk by during lunch and it closed down because they sold out of baked goodies. Arrived here 8:20am, I would like to say 1/5 of the shelves were empty! Please note there are 3 staff during the morning rush, a cashier and an assistant bagger, and a barista. Due to short staffing, there was a covered rack of baked goods that were not place on display. How unfortunate! Since they sell out so early, I was surprise the baked goods are not much different than the typical Chinese bakeries around. I see a lot of pictures of this cheese tarts, and puff pastries, no were available when I was there at 8:20am! Nabbed a chocolate bo lor Bao with a banana and chocolate filling, taste reminded of a thick banana chocolate crepe. Scallion bun was loaded with scallions but nothing to rave about. Offers the typical assortment of cream filled buns, hot dog buns in cute animal shapes, and loaves of pre sliced bread. Also an assortment of Asian potato chips and bottle drinks. They offer the typical coffee, latte assortment. Cute, instagram-able store front seating in shape of croissants and baguette. Not much seating but enough for the crowd for traffic.

P
Pavel Push

Quite unusual place for chinatown. Long, open and bright room with shelfs along walls. Everything on shells - breads, baked goods, books with very manly or even boysy covers. On the front - rocking chair on straps. Being here such a fun, but just all the baked goods is kind of not real. Untasted, un structured fluffy substation. Huge bulk and almost zero weight. Egg tart for $1 is a great deal, but coffee for $3 - isn’t. Disappointed.

Jessica Yang
Jessica Yang

Expensive considering there are many Asian bakeries in the neighborhood with lower prices. I hate the way the goods are packaged. The pastries are sealed in a way that when you open it, you have to eat the whole thing. The bag rips open and you cannot reseal it and you can't even keep it in the bag because it's ripped open. I love taro buns. As pretty as the taro bun is here, the taro filling inside has no flavor. It is well filled, but what does that matter when it's flavorless. There are much better quality and cheaper bakeries within a block or two.

Javier Kohen
Javier Kohen

Very pretty pastries. The flavors were good, but the preparation was average. When I visited around noon some of the pastries were a bit dry and what should be flaky had started solidifying. The quality didn't justify the high prices.

Jyoti Shankar
Jyoti Shankar

Mixed experience here. Their signature pineapple pastry is delicious. The green tea pastry was oily, rancid and not very pleasant. The German pudding was bland and not flavorful. These two are best avoided. The seashell pastry was very good with a delicate buttered toast flavor. The coconut cream pastry was also okay. We got the 500ml of rose oolong hot tea and it was $5 - which was odd because on the menu the cold version was only $3.60. Overall, the place is expensive and not really extraordinary. I would get selected items here and get tea elsewhere in Chinatown.

The bread is ok but the lady in the front is very rude,no manner, no smile, loud voice and lack of patient.

The food was ok, but the staff had terrible attitudes. They didn't care about customers at all, often sitting around playing on their phones. Even when you were at the counter ready to pay, the staff just focused on chatting among themselves and treated customers very dismissively.

The first time I had their egg tarts I thought it was delicious. There was a lot of egg flavor and the tart was light and flaky. The second time I purchased, it was spoiled. Either I got a day old egg tart or it’s because they put the tarts in plastic bags before they have fully cooled off (you can see the moisture in the bags).

The bakery was deserted when I entered. The main reason was probably the cashier's indifference and condescending attitude towards customers. It was really unbearable.

I went to this bakery today. The shop was very clean. There was only one person from the cashier to the tea making. I could feel the cashier's impatience and anxiety. The service without a smile was very uncomfortable

The bakery is very clean and the bread is just okay, but the service attitude is really speechless. They don't even accept 5 cents or 10 cents in change. This is the first time I've seen this. The cashier has a bad attitude and an unfriendly face.

The ambience is nice. However the employees are rude. Even after tipping they still are very bothered that they have customers.
