Great little omakase for a GREAT price. AYCD sake and a couple of cocktails too. Highlights for me were the Ozeki Nigori, Chinatown Sour, hamachi Yellowtale and eel—though everything was really nice. Will definitely be coming back and bringing friends.
This was such a good time. The food was amazing and the drinks were delicious. The staff were very friendly but not overbearing. Overall it was a great experience, will be going back.
We had such an amazing experience here! The food and drinks are wonderful and you can’t beat the fun energy- especially if it’s karaoke night. Highly recommend for anything from a date night to a night out with friends!
I had my birthday here and had a great time 10/10. My close friend group and I did the omakase. My favorite piece was either the eel or the wagyu. Once we finished we moved to the back room which had a private bar for all the people I invited. If you’re looking for something that has a nice atmosphere, good food and drinks you should go here.
Nicely done! Revamped menu and decor featuring an exclusive Omakase menu with AYCE nigiri and sake/beer. Can’t beat this deal!
I had the OMAXKASE and now I know why they put MAX in the name. I ate so much fresh amazing sushi. Aside from being the best deal in The City, it was really flavorful. On top of that, the sake qty for AYCD is outstanding. This is a must-visit when in NYC!
First time doing Omakase and it was amazing! The chef, B, and Tony were really nice and great to talk to. The place has a really cool vibe with a great sake selection as well as other specialty cocktails. The omakase menu was fantastic as well and I left feeling very satisfied! Overall would really recommend anyone try it. There’s also a speakeasy in the back where they’ll have a dj and serve drinks pretty soon. Would definitely go back on my next visit!
Awesome vibe and equally amazing food. I come here all the time with family and friends. Their unique sushi menu and Japanese comfort food are particularly good. They recently started doing a pop up with some of the best bahn mi in the city. The owner also throws great parties over the weekends. Couldn’t recommend Shinsen enough!
Sophisticated, yet chill atmosphere…our sushi was absolutely excellent and extremely fresh ingredients. Our cocktails were both mixed to perfection, and the service was hands-down excellent. They offer outdoor seating as well. The only thing I would change is to add some flat screen TVs and possibly live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Definitely will be returning here on out next visit, as it’s adjacent to our Hyatt Hotel and smack in Chinatown.
Fantastic sushi. Just the right temperature and very fresh. Pricey, but that is New York City. Miso soup was top notch too. The manager - Tony - came up and talked with me...said they only opened about 8 weeks ago. This is the only sushi in Chinatown that I could find. 2 doors down from the Hotel 50 Bowery. Will definitely go back next time I am in town.
Update - Feb. 2024 review: must try the Butter Lobster Hand Roll, it was packed with lobster and excellent warm butter for dipping. Gyoza was a little portion, 4 pcs only. But no worries, vegetable tempura was the other appetizer we ordered and it was more satisfying. Must try the salmon skin salad. Perfectly fried and delicious salad dressing, soy sauce base. Really enjoyed the Mulberry Bowl - scallop and uni was so fresh and delicious. It's still very dark in the dining room since it's giving off a club lounge lighting so it makes it hard to see the menu as well as the food. There's even a back room for Karaoke. Great club tunes play overhead while you enjoy your meal. Sept. 2023 - Rare find in Chinatown - a premium sushi spot that offers the Omakase experience. This place has nightclub vibes walking in with the bar counter right at the entrance and the neon lights. The entrance leads to a very dim lit dining room. Menu offers great snack and appetizer choices. Rice bowls and sushi a la carte or custom rolls. I enjoyed my uni and scallop bowl with the chefs choices. The wagyu sushi was good but not as flavorful as I hoped. Salmon skin salad was good - just need to mix the soy sauce based dressing more with the greens. Drink Menu doesn't disappoint!
I finally got to try this place aside from getting their amazing matcha latte and matcha affogato to go. Great coffee roast too and you can sit down and enjoy. I came here for lunch during Judy duty and ordered Canal St Chirashi Bowl, it was so good that I shed a tear (not wasabi effect). Great open space, minimalist, it's a new breadth in heart of Chinatown food scene unlike most surrounding restaurants. It's wonderful they chose this spot and want to bring some change to Bowery. The owners wife was super friendly, we had a nice chat, but overall great service and attentive staff. Oh and fresh wild salmon, let it be praised! Can’t wait to go back with friends.
Japanese Sushi spot of Canal and on Bowery St. I believe the target theme of the restaurant is trendy and upscale as the place felt a bit more like a bar / club than a restaurant. That being said, the prices reflected the upscale vibe. But, the food was very subpar at a premium price. We ordered a wide variety of drinks, appetizers and entrees, there was 6 of us and the bill came out to roughly 400$. 2 of the ppl on our group ordered high end Tuna with their entree and the Toro Tuna pieces were about the size of a quarter, what appeared to be a single piece cut into 2. The wait staff immediately attempted to solve our issue and offered a substitute instead, we suspected they were running short on Tuna Toro. The manager also comped 1 round of free drinks to compensate. If you are out for a total experience for a trendy bar / sushi spot give it a try, but if food and taste and portion is more important, go to a real sushi joint for upscale palate experience.
Came across this place. Looking for Noko. Since got seated, we thought we gave it a try, but ended up regretting it. Food is not good and definitely not fresh. Ambience is very dark, can barely see anything. Service is ok. We ordered the sashimi platter and the fish was dark, fishy and old. The curry katsu was dry, the curry sauce tasted ok but ordinary. Drinks were ok. I had the lychee martini, even though the portion was teeny tiny for $10 happy hour, it tasted ok but not too much alcohol. There's not good japanese/sushi restaurant in chinatown. Go to St. Marks.
Worst welcoming I’ve ever experienced. The man at the front desk was disrespectful. We explained that we drove all the way from Boston, didn’t know the area, and just wanted to eat there we even kindly asked if they could prepare something quickly. His response was, “Maybe you find another place to eat, there are many other places around” He basically kicked us out. There was absolutely no sense of hospitality or welcome. My boyfriend is Black, and honestly, I can’t ignore the possibility that his attitude might have been influenced by that. Either way, it was unacceptable and completely unprofessional!! Never recommending this place to anyone.
Horrrrrrrrrrible!!!!! Ordered sake and he brought one little cup and about 3oz of beer. Sake was watered down and cold… There was a bunch of mosquitoes flying around as well. So if you want to get your blood sucked and wallet drained go there. And my girlfriend and I were the only people there at 7:30 on a Thursday night! Avoid at all costs!
