I ordered the Swiss and Mushroom Hamburger with steak fries. I have not had a hamburger this good in a very long time. The steak fries were crispy and piping hot. The portions were large and the prices were reasonable. The staff was friendly. What a divine meal!

Food was delicious! Everything was so good. I had spinach enchiladas, customized for my vegetarian diet. Yum. The saloon atmosphere was fun with beautiful stained glass windows and an enormous, gorgeous chandelier, and hardwood floors. Great place.

Quaint little spot downtown Brenham. The owner came to our table to make sure everything was all right. Food was good. Service was awesome atmosphere wonderful very clean. Loved it and will be back.

Great find in this cute little town. We are from Houston and travel to Austin quite often. We usually just drive through Brenham, but decided today to stop for lunch. We ended up at a beautiful old building with a small restaurant inside. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, and the staff is very friendly. We both got the steak fingers with okra and fries, very tasty! You can definitely tell it is cooked to order....very hot and fresh! They have artwork all through the building, it is worth walking around after eating. So happy that we decided to stop!

This was a delicious dinner 🍽 I highly recommend the pork chops. Tender and juicy with a great flavor. The sides were just as good. We will be back.

This little spot in historic Brenham is exactly what you hope to find in a small-town café—great food, friendly people, and a welcoming atmosphere. We came in with our soccer team after a game, and while the place was definitely not built for a group our size, the staff made it work. Even the locals jumped in, shifting tables to make room for our boys, which says a lot about the kind of community this is. The breakfast was simple, tasty, and reasonably priced—nothing fancy, just good, solid food done right. The old building adds to the charm, and the whole experience felt like a step back to a time when restaurants were about more than just food—they were about people. If you’re in Brenham and want a warm meal in a welcoming spot, this place is worth the stop.

This place brings me many memories of when I was younger and my older cousins used to cook here when it was a pool hall. The remodel is beautiful and cozy. The owner and staff are so friendly and courteous. The food is so gooood and the prices are as cheap as a fast food place or cheaper. This is my new favorite place to go to lunch, it's cute but small and you will not be disappointed. FYI it is closed on Wednesdays. I can't wait to try the breakfast. Also when you order food to go they don't miss a beat, they make sure everything that you need is in the bag and its packaged nice and neat. My goal is try everything on the menu, so far the meatloaf, hamburger, and chicken fried steak are a 10 out of 10.

The food is good, service is friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful, it transports you to another, slower time and you just leave feeling good and in vacation mode. 😀

My husband and I had a wonderful lunch here! Amazing service, quality food for a fair price. The sweet tea was fantastic, refills were spot on for the hot day. Complement bread was warm and unique, we had not had anything like it before. The owner seems to be waiting on tables and his team was amazing. Just the prefect balance of old school charm, and quick service. The wait staff was extremely attentive. Give this place a chance it was wonderful.

Terrific little place attached to a local inn. Great food with very generous portions of down-home cooking. We had the pork chops, meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, skillet potatoes, fried okra, and green beans. The atmosphere is elegant, southern style. The food was very reasonably priced with more than ample portions. Wait staff was very polite, friendly and attentive without being intrusive.

They are wonderful owners and their workers are very good. My favorite is chicken in spaghetti noodles, but they have a light butter garlic sauce. 😋 YUM. They are topped with broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. It is wonderful. A salad is served before the main dish. They serve a small bread, which is awesome. My husband likes their meatloaf served with a choice of two vegetables. He also likes their chicken tacos.

Today was OK. My burger I got was cooked to my liking. Next time I come, I'll try to get one of those pasta dishes. The staff was friendly. 1 waitress did curse a little one little spot I caught since there were children. Other than that, I enjoyed my service with them here.

Recommended to come here and it didn’t disappoint. It’s located just inside the Ant Street Inn, and has an air of classiness with white linen tables and a stocked bar as well. Fresh baked warm bread accompanied our drinks, and the bread was ciabatta like, dense but soft. We ordered the mushroom and Swiss burger, and the eggplant parmigiana with fettuccine Alfredo. Both dishes were excellent, the eggplant and pasta both hot and prepared well, and the mushroom burger cooked to perfection without even asking. The steak fries that came with the burgers were excellent, they tasted like golden potatoes and were definitely different than the regular steak fries you may have had before. We recommend getting a sangria to drink, it’s sweet and delicious. The place was very clean and the food came out a lot quicker than we expected. Advise the gentleman to visit the men’s room for a cultured experience wink wink. All in all a great place we would definitely go to again to try different items from the menu. Our two dishes and two alcoholic drinks totaled under $40, so it’s definitely not going to break the bank.

The Brenham Grill is one of those somewhat hidden places that can be found in a lot of small cities. It's in the old Ant Street Inn in the Brenham Historic District (a nice place to stay if you're spending a night in Brenham) and is a pleasant low key place with a nice atmosphere at food that's reliably good, particularly the "South of the Border" selections. We live locally and have been eating at the Brenham Gill for years...no complaints yet.

Exactly what I was hoping for! Very small place but a beautiful sweet spot for a little birthday lunch! Not super fast or overly attentive but caring and kind service. Reasonable prices for very good food. 8 people with me and we all loved what we got! Best club sandwich I've ever had! Okra tasted fresh, not frozen. YUMMM!

I had the Texas Cobb salad with chicken and the salad was good. The reason for only 4 stars was when they brought out the bread which was hot and good there was no real butter. Just tabs of 40% vegetable oil. I feel if you are serving hot homemade bread it should come with real butter. As far as service it was okay but I felt rushed to leave. The waiter came with the check and never asked if we needed anything else. I was looking for desert which caused him to take back the check and allowed us to order. I ordered the peach cobbler which was very good.

Old time feeling inside the restaurant. Has the look and feel of having been a saloon at one time. Service was good and staff friendly. Typical Southern food fare. Chicken fried steak was on the small side compared to other Southern restaurants. Peach cobbler with Blue Bell ice cream was delicious but received a corner piece of cobbler which was hard and chewy. Get a middle piece if you order it. Overall good experience.

The Brenham Grill is a great place to visit for a casual lunch in a nice atmosphere. I had the fried catfish and it was delicious, and the sides were great, too. One note I will add to the owner is to make the front door entrance more accessible and obvious. Other than that, great job on the menu and service!

Passing through Historic Downtown Brenham on Sunday morning and this was the only place we could find that was open early. Wanted breakfast but they stopped serving at 10:00 (we arrived almost 10:30). Stayed for lunch and enjoyed it. Service wasn’t overly friendly but efficient. (The Grill is right next door to the Ant Street Inn. Keep in mind that none of the downtown shopping is open on Sunday except for a couple shops that open at 12 or 1 pm.)

Staff seemed a little grumpy or frustrated?? Breakfast was pretty good, loved the French toast, but the bacon was hard & flavorless. I will be back though, just hoping they were having an off day.

The complimentary bread was hot and delicious. However, the Chicken Cobb Salad was not as great. I called the owner over and asked if this was indeed chicken, as it did not look, smell, or taste like chicken; it tasted like stale, dried-out fish. He was affronted and marched off after telling me, "Of course, it is chicken." I won't be going back. I've never questioned anyone before about a restaurant meal, and was distressed that the man didn't want to be bothered.

Food is decent (standard Sysco-sourced?). Atmosphere, nice, due to vintage furnishings, historic hotel ambience. Our first time here, Friday night, 7:30 pm. Only two other tables of customers besides us. In my humble opinion, the restsurant's service misses the mark. Servers sloppily dressed, didn't bother to come check on us after serving us. Would we come back - most likely, yes. Highly recommend? Not until they improve their service (place does have potential, just not fully utilizing it).

Beautiful and quaint bed and breakfast. Where the decor was gorgeous, the food left much to be desired. My husband ordered the grilled chicken and vegetables with spaghetti. Very tasteless. He says he will not return. I will give them another chance. Wait staff was not attentive. Refills on drinks were very expensive. The chandelier was gorgeous!

A

It’s a lovely atmosphere but the food was less than impressive and the service was meh. I would not recommend the calamari- as you can see in the photo it’s just frozen. The chicken parm was cooked perfectly and tender and then drowned in red sauce so that is all you could taste. Potatoes and chicken fried steak and pinto beans all needed salt - didn’t have much flavor at all. Staff was pleasant - just not super attentive and messy. Overall we are unlikely to return - but it had potential.

The restaurant is gorgeous. The food was not anything special. Also, it took forever for our waitress to bring chips and salsa.

Overall, the food was alright, but I left a little disappointed. Given the restaurant’s old-school, classy charm, I was hoping for a more elevated culinary experience. It may have just been an off day, and I do plan to return for another try.

There food is really bland and mostly store bought. I had a nice fresh salad and then they give you a small container of store bought ranch dressing. Such a shame, we'll never go back!

The place is really cool and in a very neat area. But the food was super bland. Tastes like chicken was frozen or from a can and the service wasn’t very good at all. Not very friendly.

Beatiful dining room and tables with excellent service and friendly staff. However, I used my free meal voucher only once during my stay at the hotel, and I'm glad I didn't pay for the food myself. I got the eggs benedict, which the egg was essentially hard boiled, not poached with a runny and very pale yellow hollandaise. It was not very satisfying, and as for the potatoes on the side were just as disappointing. The hotel, the staff, and the dining room honestly set a precendence that's lost once you are actually served.

Food was very bland. I felt like the waitress was rushing us to leave. She was grabbing plates over us while we were eating and trying to grab our plates while we clearly wasn't finished. The place looked good.

My husband and I drove into Brenham for the day. Looked up top venues to eat, this was in top 5. It is located in a hotel with impeccable old world charm, the atmosphere was upscale, but inviting, and a waiting line based on the honor system. We felt we’d found a hidden gem. However, once inside..not so much! Restaurant was busy, understaffed, and not very friendly. Food was moderate at best. I’d ordered a spinach/walnut salad with beef. I’m quite the salad connoisseur, I was very dissatisfied. Bowl was filled with spinach, few walnuts, couple 1/4 slices of tomatoes, and chewy beef fajita meet on top. That was IT! My husband ordered chopped steak and onions..it was a formed hamburger patty with cold gravy. Green beans and mashed potatoes were okay, but not great. Glad we visited once, but will not return.

We drove from Houston to have breakfast here. We got here at 11:00am and it’s ended. They said breakfast ended at 10:00am. Had it been posted online we wouldn’t have come all this way. We had a coffee and left.

B

I have no idea how this place has a 4 star rating. We ordered the mozzarella sticks to start, they came out quickly but clearly looked, and tasted, like they were previously frozen instead of made fresh. I ordered a bacon burger with steak fries for the entree and got the same feeling. Nothing was fresh. Yikes.

B
Bre S

The staff was rude and seemed annoyed that we there. The food was good except the bacon which tasted like it had been deep fried, it was not good! Atmosphere was not warm or inviting. So definitely a place I will not be revisiting anytime soon!

S

Honestly, this was the worst breakfast out that we’ve ever had. Everything we ate was either microwaved or pre made or purchased from Costco “ready to eat”. The “bacon” had zero flavor. The “poached eggs” on the Benedict were pathetic. McDonalds does a better job. Perfectly round and flat, there’s nothing poached about them. The sauce had to be from a jar. Super runny. Very gross. Fruit? Flavorless My advice? Find a chef who actually wants to cook food. Look up how to poach an egg. Learn how to make a sauce. Cook bacon to order. It’s not difficult if you are a chef. A waste of $36.00

Surly, slow service. This restaurant stops serving breakfast at 10:30am (!!!) on Sunday, and the lunch menu is heavy dishes that are just not appealing at that hour. The kitchen was very slow, we got our food 40 minutes after we got there (though it took forever to order because staff ignored us). We had to ask for refills, and someone tried to bus our table while we were eating. The food was fine but not worth the strife. No kids' menu.
