Honestly, so consistently good it’s annoying. Of course I mean that sarcastically, but I’ve literally never had a bad delivery order from them. Today they went above and beyond to add tater tots to my order after I had already placed it, and their service and timeliness made my day. Some favorites are the egg sandwich with kale. The sauce is delicious and not too spicy. The tater tots are perfectly crunchy as a side and not too greasy either.
One of my favorite coffee shops in NYC! Delicious coffee, great food, and love the atmosphere. This has been my go-to spot living in the upper east side. I recently placed an order and there were some issues with the delivery driver (to no fault of the cafe). Regardless, Hutch & Waldo provided incredible customer experience, totally making up for it and reinforcing how much I love this spot. Definitely recommend!
Nice little spot for a quick bite and a coffee! The corner is fun as there is also an ice cream spot right next door. It almost feel like a few minutes out of the city! So pretty and yummy!
Love their yogi burger! It's more a take out place but you can sit outside (covered and uncovered area). Burger was super fresh and tasty. I had it before and am visiting so had to stop by again. I'm not even vegetarian but love it so much.
As a reviewer, I have to say, this place is truly a hidden gem. If you manage to find it, consider yourself lucky—you’ve hit gold! Hutch and Waldo is a charming little spot that makes you feel at home the moment you walk in. The customer service here is top-notch, a solid five stars. The staff are attentive, friendly, and create a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while. One of the things that really sets this place apart is the freedom you have to enjoy it however you like. You can have meaningful conversations without the weight of today’s politics looming over you, or you can choose to sit quietly, get lost in a book, and let your mind wander. It’s the perfect place whether you’re feeling social or if you just want a bit of peaceful solitude. When it comes to kid-friendliness, Hutch and Waldo maintains a laid-back, relaxed vibe that’s suitable for families. While it’s more of a spot for quiet enjoyment, it’s not unwelcoming to kids, so you can feel comfortable bringing them along if needed. No matter what kind of day you're having, you'll find your spot here when you walk through these doors. Trust me—let them know you heard about it here, and you won't be disappointed.
The guys were amazed by the chicken sandwich and you know it’s hard to find places where 4 ppl come out satisfied!! The Avocado smash and iced coffee was great as well! Tables could have been bigger but we managed to sit outside so we were happy! :)
Hutch and Waldo is great neighborhood spot for a quick bite, I like the look of the place, it has an easy going feel. A nice spot to grab and go or stay and watch the crowd a bit.
I have been here more than half a dozen times! They have delicious, homemade, healthy food options that leave you feeling really satisfied. The breakfast burrito, açaí bowl, salads, and rolled oats/yogurt/granola are delicious. Same goes for their smoothies and coffee. Seating is limited and challenging to find on a hot, sunny spring/summer day. There’s usually a line on those days too. If you’ve never been, you should definitely go try it! What’s nice too is that you’re paying for great food - unlike some dinner prices that you’re feeling overly full and it was mediocre. This is actually delicious. Tons of vegetarian friendly and healthy options! PS: dog friendly!
The best coffee shop in NY UES! Great quality, friendly staff, and a cool vibe. You know it’s a great place when the NY Fire Department Crew stops here for coffee!
It's nice, I just wish the general area was a little less cramped. There's a lot of street obstacles like chairs, tables, dogs, kids and strollers with nowhere out of the way to park, so it becomes hard to navigate. Forming a line is hard as well due to the lack of space Please install a top wall or pigeon spikes on the ledges over the ordering/waiting area. Pigeons often sit up there and cause issues with poop falling.
A decent cozy cafe run by some really friendly Australian people! The space might be a bit limited, but people tend to not stay for a long time (which is a good thing), you can get a seat soon. The avocado toast I got was pretty good, with the extra egg on top and with the ginger tea I got it came down to something like 20 bucks. They had nice music playing and the vibe in there was nice. They seem to have have interesting coffees and would like to try their other food items.
Fantastic atmosphere – a lil shop with beachy vibes that serves great coffee and delicious food! This place makes me happy I've moved to the Upper East Side The drip coffee was amazing. I never thought I'd say this outside of Seattle but the drip had fantastic extraction and tasted almost like a well done pourover! Will definitely be coming back to try out their espresso drinks :) Foodwise – the breaky sando (I added bacon to mine) was great! Bread was on point and the carmelized onions were just what I wanted in a sandwich. The bacon added a nice meaty/salty touch for me so I think next time I'd definitely go with adding bacon again.
I walked out feeling that the restaurant had done its job well. The serving portions reflect fair pricing. Employees provided good service and everyone was ready to help! They offer diverse menu items, reasonable pricing and service that stands out. The staff show remarkable attention with genuine professionalism.
Australian coffeeshops, all brewing great coffee, seem to have taken over NY and Hutch and Waldo is no exception. I came here for a latte but seeing all the people hanging out enjoying brunch, I ended up getting a bite. I had the avocado toast - not the most amazing I’ve had - but let me just say, they do not skimp on the avocado. Excellent value! And the coffee’s great!
I recently had the pleasure of spending 3.5 weeks on the Australian coast, situated between Brisbane and Byron Bay. There, I fell in love with the coffee and café culture and suddenly realized why Aussie spots have been proliferating across Manhattan and LA. It’s because the baristas are friendlier; the food is fresher, more vibrant, healthier; the lattes are always smooth and satisfying. These spots are *that* much better than what most Americans are used to; Hutch & Waldo encapsulates that perfectly. Order at the counter; chat with the staff; enjoy an excellent latte or some nourishing bites. The conversations happening across the counter are genuine, and everything I’ve ordered here has been great as well - love the use of Matchaful in the matcha lattes. 🍵 I’ll be leaving NYC next month, but I’m happy the neighborhood now has a spot like Hutch & Waldo. An experience here should make any New Yorker just a bit friendlier and less uptight.
Go to weekend brunch spot. Food is consistently good and service, once seated, is fast enough. Have also ordered delivery on several occasions with no complaints. I was however recently disappointed to see they got rid of one of my favorites, Matcha Lemonade. I do hope the owners take note and bring this back, especially as summer comes into full swing.
I want to hate it because it’s so small, the music is so loud, it’s so full of annoying people (customers and staff) and they have a “to-go cup only” policy on weekends but they make an absolutely unimpeachable flat white so I have no choice but to come back for coffee when I’m on the UES.
I wanted to hate this place so bad. I was hungry after going to the guggenheim and trying to eat on the upper east side is a nightmare. Like most things on the UES I wanted it to be bad because the UES sucks. But this place is amazing. The food is a great value for what you pay. And it tastes great. The tea was brewed well. My friend who got a coffee said that coffee was good but did expect a little better from the coffee. Overall pretty good but atmosphere gets a 2 out of 5 stars as you have to be surrounded by the people of the UES.
Such a cute spot for a quick lunch/coffee. Servers are attentive and orders come out really quick even when busy. Iced latte was perfect along with the burrito with cauliflower rice, panko chicken and Pico. Tasted light, flavorful yet filling. The spicy hutch club was great too. Fresh ingredients.
Positive The avocado on sourdough toast is great! Less positive The seating is basically first come first serve which makes it slightly unappealing as you essentially have to hover over others in order to secure a spot. Probably better to go when there's less demand, i.e. not brunch time. The service was limited, with fewer attempts to keep the space tidy which may be in line with the first come first serve theme that seems to be the case here. Be prepared to clean the space that others have left.
Delicious coffee of all types. Hot. Cold. Espresso, etc.
We went here on Saturday for a weekend tea and brunch. Seating space is limited to the outdoors and there aren’t many seats available, but the atmosphere is nice once you do find seating. We tried the matcha and the masala chai almond milk latte, and it was very refreshing. Their spicy hutch sandwich is nice too, and I really liked the ciabatta. It’s a very pleasant place to stop by for the vibes for those who are in the area.
Lovely spot for brunch. The food was tasty and the portion sizes were perfect (brown rice bowl on left, blue smoothie bowl on right). My oat cortado didn’t make the picture as the milk wasn’t steamed well - too frothy and began to look curdled which spoiled the overall taste (as a barista myself I know it’s possible for oatly’s barista milk to make great latte art). However as an overall experience I would highly recommend it and would definitely pop back in again! Friendly staff and quick service as well :)
Great spot for a quick lunch, with several outdoor tables for outdoor seating. Got the breakfast burrito, which is served all day. Grilled like a panini, the tortilla was crispy and filled with egg, beans, cheese, tater tots, and bacon. Combined with hot sauce, it was a really solid breakfast burrito. My friend got the Hutch brekkie which looked a bit more on the healthy side.
Came with a friend for a quick bite. We enjoyed the coffee and matcha latte and the fact that macadamia milk was an option is a major plus. I loved the concept of the menu and the biodegradable cutlery & plates. In practice, the breakfast meals we ordered were fairly under-seasoned but maybe that was just bad luck. Also worth noting that it’s outdoor seating only but overall a fairly good coffee place.
I was immediately drawn to this place because the ambience and food options reminded me of coastal cafe/coffee shops in Charleston, SC. Specifically Huriyali, Second State Coffee, The Daily and The Harbinger Cafe & Bakery. However, while the atmosphere is on point, the coffee is a hit or miss and the food is pretty good, but missing that flavor pop. Overall still recommend, but be prepared to pay $$ for a small coffee.
A really cute spot. I got an iced coffee latte and the kale and crunchy quinoa salad. The quinoa salad was fantastic and the coffee was good, nothing super memorable for me. I waited 30 minutes for my salad which seemed a little too much. There is mist spray out from their awning to keep you cool with 2-person outdoor tables with a few covered by an umbrella. I was disappointed to find there was no wifi. This is not a coffee shop to stop by and do work, but a great place for a quick lunch or to chat with a friend.
Breakfast burrito (no beans) and chocolate croissant were good. Would not recommend almond butter add-on to açaí bowl. Base bowl mid-to-good, not the best for price. Cold brew coffee was good. Berry bondi smoothie not bad, but better described as banana smoothie rather than strawberry, blueberry, banana, and maple syrup. Dining experience solid. Many dogs, good vibes. 6/10 only due to price.
It's a quaint place. I gave it 4 stars because it is a little small and there's no bathroom. It is still a quality place and has a lot of good qualities such as the decor and food and drink options. They even have vegan smoothies. The staff is very friendly as well and always smiling.
The staff was very nice and accommodating even when I switched my coffee order to cardamom latte (good!) after paying. The breakfast burrito was ok, nothing too special but relative to the price, thought I’d get something a bit more. I liked the counter structure which was orderly conducted.
Food was good, coffee got good reviews with my friends. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table and the food was delayed but it was worth the wait. We ordered the avocado smash (but the one at Bluestone Lane is better) , morning greens and the Waldo burger and everything was delicious. Smoothies are also recommended here. Friendly service 👌
Great coffee, breakfast sandwiches were mid. Maybe bc we walked to the park with them and they got cooled off a little? I think wrapping them in that insulated paper would be good in retaining heat instead of the box.
Iced latte was delicious 🤤 ham and cheese croissant was great too. Staff were friendly 🙇♀️ The only reason I gave 3 stars is I was somewhat disappointed of going with my dog and finding it not to be so dog friendly as other reviews in here and posts from their Instagram suggested, mainly due to the space. Everything felt SO cramped and tight and that ruined the whole experience for me 🙄
Very small space, waited for 15-20 minutes for seats. Ordered coffee in the meantime, friendly service. Only problem is that for the price paid, I'd expect to get served on real plates, slightly bigger portions. It's a cute spot but more of cafeteria vibes re: the takeaway cardboard boxes and wooden implements. Coffee is good quality for New York, food was tasty (got mushroom sage toast and boyfriend got avo smash) but paying $15 for one piece of toast and an egg in a plastic container didn't quite live up to my expectations for this cute Aussie Outpost 🤷♀️
Average breakfast, coupled with unfriendly service which i am at a loss to understand what i did to deserve - i asked for sugar for my flat white (which was not a flat white btw) and was reluctantly given one, i asked for another and that was met with something bordering on disdain. I paid $36 for an average quality breakfast with overcooked scrambled eggs, and a poor quality coffee. I dont expect to be met with anything when i ask for some sugar for my coffee, other than yes mam, how many would you like. I felt there was a big disconnect between the vibe promised on the website, and the reality of the place.
My sandwich was missing two of the ingredients listed on the menu and the tater tots were soggy. Disappointing
Cute quirky place. Very small so expect to wait for a while for a table on the weekend. Food is tasty but portions are pretty small and way overpriced. Overall I'd say it's not worth it and probably wouldn't come here again. A flight to Melbourne may be cheaper! Coffee was passable but not the best - compares well to other NY coffee options but a pale shadow of proper Aussie coffee. As others have mentioned the dishes are all disposables which is a pity, though at least they are all biodegradable. But it's not so easy or pleasant to cut through toast with the blunt bamboo knife and fork...
I hadn’t had a burrito from this spot in over a year, and I was genuinely excited to try it again today. Sadly, things seem to have changed—and not for the better. Right from the start, I noticed that this burrito didn’t hold its shape at all, and it was loaded with an excessive amount of salsa that created a total mess inside. The few beans and unexpected addition of corn felt out of place, especially since I used to love the potato they added, which really made it something special. While they used to serve salsa on the side, this time, there was no need (or space) for extra—it was practically swimming in salsa on the inside. The quality has definitely declined, and unfortunately, it just doesn’t meet the standard it once did.
Food and coffee is great, but service not amazing. We came in and it was full, no-one acknowledged us. We waited for seats, sat down, tried to ask if it was counter or table service, staff too busy. Then when our meals came, the +$3 side of scrambled eggs was very small, a bit disappointing. So overall, not terrible, but we had a bad experience. Wouldn't come back.
first time visitor. asked for pumpkin spice in my coffee (and paid extra for it). not sure if they use syrup or some kind of spice assortment but either the barista completely forgot or it wasn't noticeable at all. it was a sunday morning so it was way too busy/not worth my time to return so this was a miss for me
I come here for takeout a lot and usually it’s pretty good, although not always consistently good. Today I came later in the day and you could tell I was given tater tots that were not fresh, they were pretty stale when I ate them, and I got a sandwich where the eggs were cold. I was pretty disappointed by the clear lack of effort for freshly made food.
Used to love this place and get a breakfast burrito 3 times a week. They changed their recipe and started baking the eggs…the consistency is off putting to say the least. And the tots have also changed. Sad to see quality drop in favor of improving margins.
Rain and shine, windy or snowy, inside or outside Hutch and Waldo is open and serving their their customers. However: You Accept cash as a Tip but you don’t accept cash for a $5 coffee? I don’t get this? How does this makes sense? If you say ‘We don’t Accept cash! But, if you give us cash in a Tip form, that’s ok? And one of the workers said: Our customers want to give us a Tip, So carrying cash to leave a tip is ok, but You will Not accept Cash for a $5 coffee to Not to spread the virus??? I’m just asking? What is your justification for that? Coffee and food is excellent but this behavior is Not! You are loosing and you will be loosing customers this way.
Very below average food from this cafe. The sourdough toast for the avo smash was burnt black. The B.A.E roll was difficult to eat as the bacon pieces and scrambled eggs kept falling off. The roll also just sad. Very little bacon, no flavour from the scrambled eggs and the avocado was grey instead of green. The staff weren’t rude but they certainly weren’t friendly.
We got a few things that were all mediocre to bad. The blueberry scone was flavorless, the naked bowl had sweet potatoes that were hard and not cooked through. The cashier who took our order was radiating bad energy and was very unpleasant when he couldn’t hear us well over their music playing. Felt like a very negative experience overall both in interaction and sub par food.
This feels like a dark kitchen despite trying to market themselves as a place you can pop in. We used to come regularly. However, we noticed that they always prioritize the mobile orders instead of prioritizing helping the people who have walked in and are waiting. One day, we ordered and waited a full 10 minutes with a baby in a stroller. Various orders came and went. No one bothered to check on us. Finally, we asked for a refund and planned to go somewhere else. At that point, they said they hadn’t started the order so could get to it (shocking that they would wait 10 min to start the coffee order). We said no, we’ll take the refund. Then, they said they refunded us but couldn’t print the receipt due to technical issues (another red flag?). We found it quite shocking a food and beverage establishment can’t print a paper receipt. We will not be coming back, but if we did, mobile order is the way to go, since this is clearly not a cute coffee shop where you can walk in and expect a relaxing experience.
Had lunch on a Sunday and it wasn’t great. Since it was a full “self service” - we ordered at the cashier and had to come and pick up our food (not sure why i had to leave tip). Then it took them ages to prepare out our food, while I saw other people who order after me getting theirs (I had to go and ask if they forgot my order). Food was in to-go boxes although we told them that we were eating-in. The quinoa / kale was dry and extremely boring and over priced for what it was. I asked for additional tahini and spicy sauces to help it out
The deliveries are absolutely in your control. You pack the orders. You chose what to sell for your business. You pick the packaging. There's no way for us to deliver this safely without spilling your coffee smoothies whatever's inside because you don't pick proper packaging to keep the drink standing upright inside the bag they're too loose They jiggle around there's nothing you can do once you close that bag. this is your business, if the stuff spills inside the bag and the bag is still sealed, we don't get in trouble for it. Uber sees the damaged items when the customer reports it. The customer takes a photo of The damaged items and uber sees how you packed it. If it's packaged poorly it's your fault 😉
Went to visit based on recommendation by the New York City Cafe Passport. We purchased 2 drinks: an americano and their cardamon latte. However, we were disappointed that they were very watered down. You know a good americano when you taste the coffee. I'll go back if I'm around but I won't go out of my way.
Owner calls me aggressive because I asked for better packaging to deliver his coffee inside of a bag 😅 most people just take the coffee and spill it and just don't think about it ever again I'm trying to help And you're turning it around and telling me I'm a bad person 😅 classic New York City small business owner nobody can tell you what to do 😅 this is the only way me and your employees can get your attention about changing your packaging. Sorry if you think I'm aggressive 😅😅
The next time you purchase packaging for drinks you should consider riding a bicycle and taking some deliveries from your place first see how it goes 😅 Just because you see other businesses on the platform selling things doesn't mean you can do it too. Other people know how to pack their stuff and not make it spill this is including coffees hot coffees. You guys can't figure it out. The employees at your store told me that you won't budge You're very stubborn about your packaging. They beg us to be careful with the cups there's nothing we can do the bag is sealed The coffee's jiggling around inside the bag.
I just went there like 5 minutes ago (1/16/25 at 12:30pm) Coffee was great and the place is nice but their customer service sucks; the lady at the register was super rude and had a horrible attitude. This totally ruined my experience. Not trying to be a hater; just saying that people with poor customer service skills should not be in the front of the house.
i watched two workers go pet a dog. one barely washed her hands afterwards just rinsed with water then handed me my food. the other one didn’t bother to wash AT ALL then went back to making drinks. DISGUSTING!!! i told the girl who rinsed off to tell her coworker to wash her hands after touching a dog and she looked at me like i had 5 heads. additionally, they never put black beans when i order the burrito. as expensive as they are i want my BLACK BEANS. never going back here.
Ordered through Ubereats, and food came cold. The food was flavorless, and the eggs tasted like fast food pre packaged eggs.
Parts of my order was wrong. Parts of my order was cold. Try getting support for the wrong order. There is no where to get support online or by phone.
I have been ordering and visiting Hutch & Waldo for the past few years and it has been a favorite breakfast place of mine in the UES. I have not had any problems with the food or customer service until recently where I found a staple in my food. I almost ingested it and I was lucky that it did not injure me. I have contacted Hutch and Waldo just to make them aware of this problem, but I have not heard back from them. This has been quite disappointing.
My first time eating here was great unfortunately the lunch i ordered today is unacceptable and I do not know how you can serve someone something like this knowing they paid with their hard earned money. I placed a pick up order and arrive 6 minutes post the pick up ready time just to receive ice cold food. The eggs and toast was cold. The bread was not toasted. The side of tots were from a leftover order as they were also hard, stale and cold as well. I tried to heat up the tots at work but since they were old it doesn't help
