Definitely different. I'm not a fan of the styrofoam, but the food wasn't bad. I want to drop in again and try other plates. It was fresh, and the chicken tasted crispy and juicy. For what the area offers, this restaurant is perfect when you want to change things up. 12/9/23 I tried the spam saimin and the bbq chicken saimin. The spam was a salty broth, of course, because that's how spam tastes, and i imagine does to anything you add to it. I was still curious, though. The bar b q chicken saimin I dug. Even though the meat was floating in the broth, the bbq taste was still present and not diluted. Both were hot, warming, and tasty. 5/27/25 Dropped in from home last min and had Katsu for dinner. I'm glad I decided to go 🔥 thank you again for a great meal. 6/27/25, i didn't want to rush to post this buuuut... let me begin by saying everyone was super friendly. I dropped by on a friday evening an hour before closing, and the dining room was already put up for closing. I got out to sit down and get some air away from home. Unfortunately, i wasn't sure where to sit, so i sat at a bench with chairs on the table akwardly. This young man was mopping, and when he got to me, he stood there waiting for me to finish so he could continue. When i didn't get up, he returned the register, and i saw him staring when i got up to throw away my food with 30 minutes left till closing. Before i left with the 30 minutes left, someone pulled up and walked in, and they asked if he ordered ahead because they were about to close soon. So that person turned around and left and sat in their car, from what it looked like, searching for somewhere else to go. Other ppl pulled up as i left, and i felt bad for them because, more than likely, they were going to be turned away. I work i get wanting to go home, but this was a bummer. I felt i needed to eat fast and go when it was supposed to be a cool moment alone. And i dont come by often and live close, so i thought an hour wasn't cutting it too close. I understand walking in 15 or 20 minutes before closing. Anyways. Just wanted to share the experience. The food was good though so no problem there.

This is my go to place when I want a hearty meal that will feel me up and make want to take a nap. Especially after a workout, this is the only place I come to get my protein fix. This is a meat lovers delight. Perfectly seasoned and tasty from the beef, chicken, pork, seafood and spam. Hope you enjoy it like I do.

Stumbled on this little spot riding down Austin Hwy and after checking the menu out online, I had to stop! I’m super glad I did! Food was awesome, staff was friendly, and they were jamming in there! Will definitely come back to try more of the menu!

Found this place after craving some hawaiian food. Good spot to get your fix. They have a lot of options and combos to create so that’s super nice. Staff is friendly and helpful. Service is pretty quick too

Simon which is called noodle soup there was mediocre. The noodles was hard and thick almost like thick spaghetti and broth was cold. They did put a generous amount of meat if you get the chicken. But, if you order the spam it was very little spam in there. It has changed over the years. I did purchase the kalua pork and chicken katsu which was good. Did L&L changed their recipe? The BBQ chicken is completely different than what it used to be. I was looking forward for the juicy bbq chicken meat with slight burnt skin. Now it does not taste bbq at all, just some stir fry dry chicken pieces. Very disappointed with the food quality at this price. They should take down their old pictures on the wall if that’s no longer what they’re serving, otherwise it would be false advertisement here. Staffs are friendly. Floor is real sticky tho.

This place is NOT what it used to be! The establishment used to be well maintained and welcoming. Aunty used to be behind the counter greeting everyone as they came in and the food used to remind me of back home. Now the staff seems ready to clock out, the roof is caving, there’s a food warmer setup at the register for the cashier to make plates and to make matters worse, the AC was blowing at 65 w when it’s already freezing 47 degreed outside. It was so cold we ate in the car! As for the food…not impressed. The musubi was rice, too much sauce & almost no meat. The loco moco was flavorless with more rice than anything else. Overall a really disappointing experience and it’s sad to see how this place has turned for the worse. Big Ali’i seems to be the last authentic Hawaiian spot left in this city.

I used to love this place. Now they are cutting corners. Food used to be cooked as ordered and it was hot and fresh. Now they cook it and sit food in a warmer until someone places an order. Steaming it for who knows how long. I always get that Katsu chicken and today it tasted like it was warmed in a microwave. There was no crunch from the breading because it was steamed for hours and flavor wasn't the same. For the amount they charge??!! I will sadly no longer being eating here.

The food here is really good, but I asked for fresh musabi in they got an attitude with me 🤷🏿 The reason I asked for it fresh is because the last time that I had gotten musabi that was sitting under the hot lamp, I got home and it was just gross and disgusting. I don't want to spend $30 on something and then get home and it's gross .the Cashier had an attitude. The guy in the back responded with Oh really? Whenever I ask about the fresh musabi.

I have been eating L&L forever. San Diego, Tucson, and San Antonio....But something changed last night. First the new employee did not know how to ring up the original barbecue mix plate. It's a very common item. That's really not on the employee. It's on the management leaving somebody who's not trained correctly on shift with no supervision. Second the mac salad had big chunks of onions. I've been eating it forever and never had big chunks of onions in my Mac salad 🤷🤢. Third I got some plates to go and I live in Kerrville. Two barbecue chicken plates and an extra order of mac salad. I got back to Kerrville and learned that there was no extra order of mac salad. I was treating myself on Thanksgiving that night Wednesday since I had to work on Thursday. And I brought a friend who never been and I was bragging to her about how yummy the food is. It's too far away to go back and get my side order of mac salad I think $5. Plus I tipped $4 because it was the holidays and I was trying to be nice. I actually called the night before to ask the hours for Wednesday night. Knowing it was holiday Eve. And the person who answered the phone didn't know the hours and didn't even know Thursday was Thanksgiving I don't think I'll go back anytime soon until they get better staff. One more thing the place was almost empty and it took us a very long time to get our food 😕

RAW FOOD. So sad to leave this review. I’ve been coming here for close to 9 years… There have been a few times in the last 1-2 years that we’ve noticed the chicken wasn’t cooked all the way through. It’s been so random that we brushed it off, as it was just a piece or two. Well today the lumpia was RAW. Pink and not cooked all the way through. Squishy and not crispy at all. They changed it… it’s different than it’s been the past 9 years. So sad because that was one of my favorite things to order. You can tell it’s gone down since auntie left and we were trying to remain faithful customers but I think this is the last time we’ll be here. Unless we go just for the musubi… and it doesn’t disappoint next time. My son’s fries weren’t even cooked all the way. Just stiff, undercooked potato. I had to throw them in the oven when we got home and the rice portions are so small now. I would suggest going to another location or going to Big Aloha instead. Unacceptable. Waste of our money tonight. Disappointed.

An item was missing from my order via DD who made 0 effort to assist me with a refund or by redelivery. I called the location who spoke with a manager who was even less willing to help me and thought it was appropriate to hang up in my face. Don't worry about offering me a store credit. Keep the money for the product that was not delivered and I'll keep my business. I'll never do business with this chain again.

We attempted to place an order online but the system was having difficulty since we were close by we decided to just place the order in store. We placed the order in store cost was 43.47. I went to sit down and realized that sound a lot higher then what I seen online when we were going to order online the exact same food. Looked and it was 35.69. Now initially u would think its the other way around as most business charge extra for online ordering with processing fees convenience fees so I asked the the employee at the front and was told straight forward that ordering online makes you a vip member and it pushes there customers to order online instead of having them coming in. So there prices are quite abit higher for in store orders. Which sounds so weird but I guess that’s what works for them. Noted.

Went in today 3rd of August at 3:45 pm right after their break to order some food. After waiting outside for them to open my wife finally goes in and makes an order. She tells me that the cashier and the cooks were looking at her a little weird and they looked upset. After ordering she comes back outside and asks me to go in to get the food after 15 min because of the experience. I go inside and ask if the order is ready and they tell me "what order?" So I tell him the exact thing my wife order and he says they have nothing. I try to explain the best way I can and he tells me there's nothing. I go back outside and ask my wife for the receipt and go back inside. They misheard my wife when they took her name. So the cashier asks the cooks if they have the order in the back. They say no and they're confused. He then asks them again and they say " oh yeah, we are waiting for ribs".... so I keep on waiting. Finally the food comes out after 20 minutes and I ask for sauces. The cashier rudely says "what sauces" I tell him I want Sriracha and teriyaki and he says they don't have sriracha. As all this is happening the cooks are just staring and being super weird.... so we leave and thought that was the end of it..... We finally get home with the food and BOOM! Plate with nothing but burnt meat. I was going to say full of burnt meat but the plate was everything but full. I can literally count the shreds of cabbage at the bottom.... not only that. Worlds smallest scoops of rice.... and all the burnt meat and chicken. Taste like we are eating charcoal. Can't even cover it with Sriracha because they didn't have any. Such a terrible experience and staff. Also have been calling for 20 min trying to talk to a manager and no luck. Been hung up on twice. Not to mention I was in military uniform and still received this type of service. Spent $40 for this...
