We visit Sushi Damo every time we have opportunity to visit NYC. The quality of food is the best, my personal favorite is, oddly, not sushi or sashimi bu their ramen Tantanmen. The waiters are friendly and attentive. Definitely a place to return.
Great sushi and great service, Orlando is always very kind, nice and awesome, great waiter
Best sushi and sashimi in New York City. Lovely staff; responsive, warm, and great, gifted cooks.
An amazing experience in every way! Great food, attentive staff and lovely ambience. Definitely give the buffalo special roll and the salmon and avocado rolls a go!
I used to come here a lot pre Covid and stopped. I just ordered delivery from here and have to say I was very impressed. The tuna was very fresh and buttery. The rolls were kind of small but fish made up for it. This will be my go to sushi again in the neighborhood.
I absolutely love this place. Let me start by addressing the service the people in here are so polite and gentle. They really make you feel like you are home. Now the food, is absolutely amazing the sushi is amazing. To be honest I am not the biggest sushi fan ever but this sushi was completely amazing I loved it. I will soon be comping back for more delicious sushi.
Sushi Damo is hands down one of my favorite spots for sushi. The veggie gyoza dumplings are absolutely amazing — crispy on the outside and full of flavor inside. My go-to rolls are the Spicy Toro Jalapeño, Sakura, and Thunder Roll — each one is fresh, flavorful, and uniquely delicious. I always top it off with their mango lemonade soda, which is super refreshing and the perfect way to end the meal. The service is consistently warm and attentive, and the ambience is modern, clean, and welcoming — great for both a casual dinner or a night out. Highly recommend!
Excellent food and service, fair pricing, and a convenient location. Highly recommend!
I’ve been for lunch several times and there is a nice lunch menu. The sushi is decent and they have a few unusual items, like a shrimp burger, as well as some competent bento boxes. It’s basically what you would expect from me nice sushi spot.
Service and food was really good . Loved the ramen and fried rice.
My favorite sushi spot. The staff are friendly and food is great!
The food was perfect. The sushi was delicious, fresh, melt in your mouth. Very simple but they have perfected it. Drinks menu was very nice. Service was outstanding.
Came here with a friend. I was happy with my food and the service was amazing. I didn’t have to look around for the waiter. They took real good care of us.
The sushi here tasted so good. Great flavor. Prices were rather fair. Came during happy hour and got some cheap beer as well. The beer was amazing too, really smooth. Highly recommend it. Our waiter was really sweet and answered any questions we had. Focus of servers tends to rest on the people at the bar, but when you’re the only member staffed up front it’s understandable. She was still super sweet and gave us all her attention when she could. Like I said though, highly recommended
Have eaten here a few times. The food and service never disappoints. The sashimi selections we ordered (pretty much everything except tuna/salmon and shellfish) were all very fresh. Interesting and inexpensive sake, called "Miracle Sake", that tasted fine with the food. Service was also noteworthy, polite, professional and swift. Overall a great experience eating here. Would definitely come back for more.
I ordered a Tantamen Ramen and its so delicious! The hot sesame oil is just right. And the Lime Mojito is so refreshing. Amazing
I love this restaurant! Excellent service and the best miso soup in NYC. I took my friend last week, and he had the eel sushi and said it was the best "blank blank" sushi he's ever had. Ordered another one as well! So many other great selections. The aromas, the taste, everything about this place is amazing!
We have cone back often to Damo. The fish is consistently great, the service is attentive but not intrusive and it is very close to Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and thus a very good pre-theater option.
Lovely ambience. Day of visit Feb. 3, 2019 around 15:00. The workers were so nice, making sure I was satisfied. The food was delicious, the gyoza was very tasty and crispy, sashimi and sushi was very fresh and full of flavor, the teriyaki chicken the sauce was delicious the chicken was a little bit over done but still delicious. I cant stop saying delicious because it was so delicious!
Homey, cozy sushi spot that’s perfect for a small family, date night, or small group of friends. Food was top notch and NOT expensive at all. Wonderful all around
I walked in waiting to be seated and the first thing the waitress asked me was “are you here to pick up a delivery?” I replied no. We then awkwardly stared at each other for about 30 seconds and then she ask me “well why are you here?” I replied I AM HERE TO EAT!!!!! She then proceeded to seat me looking surprised. I should not be asked what am I doing here because I’m black. I sat down ordered my food and watch her interactions with all the white customers that came in. Not once were they asked if they were there to pick up a delivery or what are they doing there.
Great food many options very good staff It has may more options that just sushi
Fresh ingredients, well executed and tasty enough — though I wish the plum sauce was not splashed all over the sushi, but offered as an optional dip. Creative combinations make this an unorthodox sushi restaurant. Fairly priced. Out of busy hours, service was smooth. The rock music felt a bit overwhelming and unsuitable.
This is a great little spot for sushi. We had the sushi for 2 for $89 and it was delicious. We had a reservation for 4 at 6pm in a Saturday night and the fish was incredibly fresh, the service was friendly and accommodating. It’s nice a quiet Sonora a great place to meet friends but I’d recommend no more than 4 people. We’ll definitely be back.
Great midday sushi spot, plenty of choices, all great tasting and well put together. We started with shared appetizers, highly recommend the rock shrimp tempura and moved to our choices of rolls. Also enjoyed the pork gyoza and the harumaki. Pictured: Shiitake Mushroom Roll🌟🌟🌟 Salmon Family 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Sweet Potato Roll 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Shrimp Tempura Roll (No roe) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This sushi spot was a pleasant surprise! A wide array of different rolls, really fresh fish and delicious combinations of flavors. The pork gyoza was light and crispy. Nice atmosphere and quick/good service. Definitely try the Spicy Scallop roll, it was a favorite of ours. Highly recommend.
A really cold day in December, and a really nice warm Sake and Ramen bowl to complement it with. Coupled with the warm/low light and a soft sounding ambiance, it was a perfect package. I shouldn't have gone for dessert, but we're not local to NY so why not! Everything was presented graciously and elegantly. My wife and I adored the entire experience..
Hooray! SUSHI DAMO has returned and managed to reopen since their needed covid closure in mid March. Andy, their outstanding manager, sushi chefs and floor staff are back and ready to provide indoor dining, take-our plus delivery. Last night, my girlfriend and I were so fortunate to get a window table. Andy took our temperature upon entering and everything was done with done with 'safe distancing'. We started with their vegetable dumplings which were so delicious. Next a tuna sushi with avocado starter with a soy scallion sauce. Then, of course, we enjoyed several amazing specialty rolls from their menu. Being able to enjoy Sushi Damo once again brings hope to me, my friends and family--almost like an early Thanksgiving...especially as our daylight hours are getting shorter. Thanks Andy and Sushi Damo for your valiant reopening in our pandemic and the hope you provide to the Columbus Circle neighborhood!! Best wishes!
Amazing restaurant to experience Japanese cuisine in Hell's Kitchen. My wife and I were novices of sushi and the staff kindly guided us through the rich culinary tradition. We took the sushi-sashimi platter for two and loved it. There is a good collection of sake and I would recommend Muku or Snow on Kaga. If in for dessert do try the matcha cheesecake. The staff is warm and welcoming.
Second time here, great service and good food. Just too expensive but i came again because it is good workers are very nice
This restaurant has to be the best food that I’ve tasted it’s so flavorful, delicious, fresh and very affordable I would definitely recommend eating here. The waiters are super kind everybody who works their are super kind and mindful that’s what made my experience better.
Friendly and prompt service. Really enjoyed the atmosphere as well as my food! I had the Miso Soup, Philadelphia Roll and Shrimp Tempura Roll. I also had their Peach Lemonade Soda which was refreshing and light.
This sushi spot is a true gem in the city. I love grabbing a quiet window table for two, where you can enjoy an exceptional meal while people-watching. While the entire menu is a stunner, I have two absolute favorites I highly recommend: the Million Dollar Roll and an incredible top-shelf Espresso Martini. The service here is the epitome of hospitality—the staff are consistently exceptional. Beyond a quiet dinner with a friend or romantic partner, I’ve also hosted large dinners for up to 12 friends, and the service for groups is just as impeccable—everyone leaves happy. Sushi Damo is such a great experience, I am always excited to recommend it.
I was craving sushi, and this hit the spot. We ordered the California roll, Philadelphia roll, tuna sashimi and beef gyoza. Everything was delicious. We also got two orders of vanilla mochi, not realizing each came with three pieces, but no regrets, it was so good! The service was great too.
Excellent service! It was friendly and clean with a great selection. The sushi and. noodles were tasty and they have seating by the bar, open by the window or even to watch the chef make the sushi one by one. Overall it was a really pleasant experience. Definitely highly recommend visiting again.
I love the ambience of this place. It's very chill. The servers are all attentive to your needs. The food arrived in a timely manner, and by golly, they all taste so good! The kanni salad is a must order. Their wasabi is real, and the fish is fresh. The servings are pretty big as well. It was a very enjoyable dinner and I know I will be back for more if opportunity allows me to go back to that area.
Food is delicious. Always enjoy bringing guests visiting. Only recommendation - you should give free refills on ice tea — it costs nothing to give refills and charging is a big turn off and not good look for the business.
the food was delicious. unfortunately the service personel was unfriendly, except for the male waiter who greets you at the entrance, he is very polite. but the other waitresses were haughty and not nice to talk to.
Everything we ordered was super yummy and fresh! I recommend the vegetable dumplings and all the rolls were perfect. I would take points off for service. During my time there the waitstaff was not very attentive or friendly. Easy to forgive, though, considering how good everything else was.
Loved it. Food was good quality and tastefully presented. Love the cozy atmosphere and the waiters are attentive. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that service is slow, even though it was barely half full. After that this place is Perfect for a good time with a friend or two.
Chic sushi restaurant. Beautiful and delicious sushis in a nice setting. Definitely try eel sushis, they are very good. Service is fast and very professional. Sitting area is very noisy, I had trouble hearing the person accross me. They should do something about it like adding noise dampeners.
The sushi at Sushi Damo was good, with midtown Manhattan prices, but not too bad. They had a lot of fun specialty rolls, one of the rolls we ordered was even shaped like a heart! The staff was a bit too attentive and the waitress was rushing us since the moment we sat down, despite having made a reservation - which got a bit annoying by the end of the meal.
Sushi Damo provided an intimate setting for a casual weekday date - with ambient lighting and attentive service. My date and I ordered a mix and match of spicy tuna, Philadelphia, and smoked salmon rolls with some salmon sashimi. We left satiated and interested in coming back to try more of the menu!
Nice sushi restaurant at Columbus Circle, had a portable ice fan unit for supplemental cooling for some reason. Salmon teriyaki was good, crispy and nice sauce. Though I ordered the dinner dish instead of lunch combo, but was quickly fixed. Good option and service that's not ludicrously priced.
Solid mid-tier sushi place near Columbus Circle. Fish is fresh and doesn’t smell fishy. Rice to fish ratio is good. The only thing I would improve on is the rice. It was a bit mushy which generally means either too much water was used leading to the individual grains breaking down and becoming soft and gluey or they didn’t wash the excess starch off. I think if they adjusted how they make their rice, it will lead to the sushi having a better texture. Overall a decent place for a quick lunch!
Went their since our first place was close and wasn't bad. The person I was with said it was their go to place so why not try it. Our waitress was on top of things, always there when we needed her, my friend very much enjoyed her sushi and the seafood teriyaki was tasty. Top it off with a nice vibe and it is a good place to go.
Got take out. Unfortunately we felt the sushi was below average. We were specifically disappointed with the speciality Passion Roll & Sweet Potato Roll. Lastly, they only gave us 3 packets of soy sauce for 5 rolls!!
The sushi rice is mushy and made with too much water. I remember this place being much better years ago. The spicy tuna tasted weird. And the prices were not inline with the quality. Then they are also not serving alcohol
a quick meal in Columbus Circle before our movie at Lincoln Square. the place was pretty empty on a Saturday afternoon and we were quickly seated near the window. i got the roll combo (california, shrimp tempura, eel cucumber roll) and chose the salad to go with them. the rolls were all quite good, only that the rice seemed a tad too wet but thankfully not mushy. service was good and we had no complaints. a good spot for a quick lunch when you're in the area.
It was an okay restaurant. The prices were more on the upper level and the location and decor were good (close to Columbus circle). Unfortunately the food was just okay. Definitely not bad but a middle range quality. The service did not matched the price we paid. The server was not very attentive. Once she took the order, she didn't come back to check with us. It was not worth it the price we paid. But if you don't mind to pay, and you won't mind a just okay food with mediocre service, then you can dine here.
We wanted to try a different sushi spot other than our usual. This place had a lot of good reviews on Maps/Open Table. We should have known better that those reviews are either inaccurate or misleading. It’s not a coincidence that we had the same experience with some of the dishes as Dennis who wrote a review on Open Table on September 7th. The staff is welcoming and friendly and the ambiance is nice but nothing more than what you would normally expect based on the pictures. All our appetizers were like items from a neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Soft shell crabs dipped in flour and fried, tasteless. Fried oysters horrible and the mini dumplings were the best of the three but still not what we expected. The udon noodles were undercooked and hard/chewy. All of the sushi tasted ok but the seared tuna was more than seared, more like cooked. There were large chunks of avocado in the rolls and also a lot of condiments to add flavor or hide something. This is not an authentic sushi spot especially when most of the rolls have imitation crab and lobster. We opted for the real crab and lobster rolls but there were only a three from a list or dozens. Disappointing.
Overpriced, yes, but also the only decent sushi spot in the immediate area. The regular rolls like Salmon Avocado are small, the special rolls like the Golden Roll are bigger, and the Chirashi is remarkably huge. I don't know who decides portion sizes, but they might need a magnifying glass... Also, skip the Strawberry Lemonade. It's made with artificial syrup and tastes like thrown up Kool-Aid.
Don’t be fooled by the rating - the food was very disappointing. Hamachi Kama very dry and the sushi was terrible. Rubbery unagi, very wet, soggy, flavorless rice. Big bummer because the rating tricked me into it 🤢
Ordered take out at store - got (2) rolls: eel and salmon ikura roll. Two problems: A good portion of the rolls were broken (look at photo) I ordered the salmon ikura roll and there was no salmon at all … I didn’t know until I left and arrived at my destination 5 minutes later and saw their mistake. Order total was $25 and huge regret for the quality.
Pros: Tasty Tokyo and Dragon rolls. Tasty seafood soup. Cons: Tiny rolls and tiny portions. Soup had only two pieces of shrimp and two thin slices of scallop. Seaweed wrap on sushi was virtually undetectable. My Togo order took 30 minutes. My meal didn’t fill me at all and was nearly $45.
We live in the neighborhood and come here often. Food is good and service is good. Prices increased way too much recently and the sizes of the pieces of sushi decreased. We have many other options in the neighborhood for great sushi so we won’t be back here. Too bad they did this. Every restaurant slightly increased prices recently, and we understand. We’ve never seen prices like these for a neighborhood sushi place. Shameful. They’ll have to depend on tourists and expense accounts. We’re all too smart for this. We both left hungry!
The service and atmosphere are good. However, this is not typical Japanese restaurant. So, you cannot expect good quality of foods. I had Yaki Fyoza and Unagi Don. But could not eat them because they are very very bad!
Came here yesterday evening before a show. Nice atmosphere, unfortunately, shortly after eating we had to leave the show early due to stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, and extreme dizziness. EMS thought food poisoning from the raw fish I consumed. Be wary.
The quality of the fish was extremely poor. Very bad value for money - will not go or order from here again.
This place is so overrated. We went on a Friday evening late and it wasn't super busy but the food that came out was never hot if you ordered warm food. Only paid $5 for a glass of iced tea. My husband got a refill. Which in the south is free. But apparently in New York City it's another five bucks. We were flabbergasted. The spider roll was chewy and we could even finish it. The waiter didn't seem to understand us or he just nodded in agreement. It was a strange disappointing experience. And while we got a good laugh out of it we were very disappointed because it was supposed to be a better experience based on reviews
Me and my friends went to eat there and they charged 25% tips for no reason. We never let them charge 25% tips and they scammed us just because we were some random teenagers. THEY SCAMMED US I REPEAT.
I came on Saturday, and the wait wasn’t too long, everyone was attentive and friendly. I assumed that the restaurant would serve sushi grade food, but I write this as I currently have diarrhea, vomiting, headache, stomach ache, and low grade fever. My mom warned me that the tuna inside the roll didn’t look right, but I brushed it off thinking it was all right, since they looked like they had certified sushi chefs, but perhaps not. Please beware
