GREAT FOOD !!! For the past 10 years the quality of their food stayed AMAZING !! Fast and polite service, delicious food and great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Masakari is definitely my go to sushi place in Southern Brooklyn. It is very reasonably priced for the quality AND quantity of food you’re getting compared to other sushi places in the area. I love the presentations of the rolls and the raw fish literally melts in your mouth it tastes very high quality to me. My favorite things to get here is the dragon roll, shrimp tempura roll, Alaskan roll and vanilla crème brûlée. Besides the sushi, a lot of the appetizers like the mushroom soup and crispy duck roll are very satisfying. My boyfriend loves the fried rice entrees and ramen soups available in this gem. Delicious, right by the canal and perfect for catching up with friends.
Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday and discovered amazing Japanese food. Everything, just everything here was extremely good and a very quick service. Had a Summer Roll and it was really good. Their green tea is awesome to go along your meal, try it.
Our fave place for sushi. But this review is for the girl that works there - Alyssa. Amazing customer service, very quick and polite. Masakari owners- you are lucky to have such an employee. Deserves a raise or a bonus.
Excellent local sushi spot. Kind off the beaten path but still easy to find. Dishes were very tasty; freshest fish and great selection of sashimi. Great place to have some food and chat with friends.
The restaurant is squeaky clean and has a minimalist Oriental design adorned with traditional Japanese posters. The fish tank is beautifully illuminated. The menu is extensive, and the items listed on it are virtually ALL available. When they actually come to your table, they are a treat to watch, smell, and eventually eat. Great crisp food presentation makes your mouth water even before you take the first bite. No matter what you order here, you know one thing: your dish has been made with love. My crispy fried calamari came in in small breaded circles, actually steaming. The accompanying sauce was a true taste enhancer, not just merely an afterthought. For an appetizer, it was substantial in size. My main dish, a deep-fried soft shell crab extravaganza, was beautifully executed, with crispiness on the outside and marvelous moist goodness inside. The sauce was also on par. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay, which came in cold and refreshing. The chosen desert was an ice cream dish with embedded breading. Luscious, velvety, perfectly executed, not overly sweet, perfectly creamy. Needless to say, it was a fitting end to a brilliantly executed and served meal.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Masakari restaurant, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. the chef crafted an unforgettable meal that demonstrated an impeccable balance of flavor, creativity, and presentation. Every dish was a work of art, meticulously prepared and bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors. It’s clear that Masakari has a deep passion for her craft, and it shines through in every bite. Adding to the experience was our waiter, James, who provided outstanding service throughout the evening. He was attentive without being intrusive, incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and made thoughtful recommendations that perfectly complemented our meal. James’ warm and professional demeanor enhanced the entire dining experience, making us feel welcome and well taken care of. Overall, between chef’s culinary excellence and James’ exceptional service, Masskari delivered one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommended!
I’m pregnant and craving sushi, but can’t have raw fish. The staff went above and beyond, ensuring my vegetable rolls were made without any contact with fish, and they even made sure the shrimp in my tempura roll was thoroughly cooked. Their care and attention meant so much to me during this time. Thank you for making my sushi experience safe and enjoyable!
Service was fantastic, quick waiters, great atmosphere, and the guy serving us was so smilie, great sake, sushi was super fresh, overall 10/10!
I love this place very much. It always pleasure be here a d enjoy the food.
Our all-time favorite restaurant. The food is always fresh, the waiters are nice and the hostess is always sweet.
Fresh sushi and delicious food from the kitchen. The dinner boxes have so much food. They are my go to. If u want to take out call them and place the order. It’s cheaper than the app u go to to order on line. If u want delivery let them deliver it and save the crazed Uber eats fees. Enjoy!!!!
The best Sushi in Brooklyn!! I love the food there, everything tasted soo DELICIOUS! Amazing service. The place is so clean and nice. You should try this sushi restaurant, I am sure you will love it <3 <3
Amazing place, everyone so kind, everything is clean, amazing food!!!!
The environment is very warm, the meal is very enjoyable, the main food is very fresh, and I will bring my children back here next time
The best sushi place to go to! I cannot eat sushi anywhere else but here. I love the atmosphere there. The people are so friendly, I take my daughters (who I consider) to celebrate their birthdays. They love it!
The place is amazing! I really liked how friendly they were and how nice they greet their customers. The food tastes awesome and really fills you up. My new favorite place!!!! Give it a try!
It’s not often I leave a review, and the only thing I have to say is this: if you want to know the talent the chef’s here have, order the Creme’ Mushroom Soup (Russian style which was surprising!!!) , and DEFINITELY the Unagi rolls. The staff are as well-presented as the dishes which were so good that I forgot all about photographing them. If you are in the area, this place is a must visit for quality Japanese Fusion style food. It’s now on our “repeat visit” list after weeks of searching for a reliable eatery nearby.
I walked in with my service animal and didn’t receive any hostility, or was pressed about whether if he was a service animal or not which he is. They were so nice. I got seated at a nice table, and there was absolutely no animosity towards my dog. The service is wonderful. The food is delicious. I would definitely come back here. This is my first time here and its been amazing.
we had the most magical and memorable experience ever. everything exceeded our expectations and left us with memories we’ll truly cherish. the food was absolutely delicious. a huge thank you to our amazing server james, you made the night even more special!
Masakari is a gem in south Brooklyn. One of my favorite spots to go for sushi. Their service is Always top notch, awesome atmosphere and vibe. Their menu is perfectly priced and their menu choices are very proper for anyone to feel comfortable and order the right meal. I’ve had the best the times here every time. Love this place. A++++ The sushi is super fresh and delicious. Thank you masakari!
I love this place so much, the environment is really nice and clean as well as the waiters and staff, very sweet. This is always my go to place to go for some japanese food, especially sushi, all the food is fresh and always hits the spot. The prices are good compared other sushi places around.. I would highly recommend coming here😁
Masakari Sushi is hands down the best sushi spot in the neighborhood—and has been for decades. As one of the oldest and most trusted restaurants in the area, it continues to deliver unmatched quality in both food and service. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm smiles and a cozy, authentic atmosphere that feels like home. The sushi is always fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. Every bite reminds me why this place has stood the test of time. What truly sets Masakari apart is the service. The staff are incredibly attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, always ready to make recommendations or accommodate any requests. And let’s talk about the sake—easily the best I’ve had in the past 20 years. Smooth, crisp, and perfectly chilled, it pairs wonderfully with any dish on the menu. Masakari Sushi is more than just a restaurant—it’s a neighborhood gem and a culinary institution. Whether you’re a longtime local or a first-time visitor, this is a place you’ll keep coming back to. Five stars without hesitation!
The sushi is pretty good for a local spot has good service and a decent atmosphere.
Masakari Sushi is a place we've trusted for years, and they've never let us down! The reason we're loyal customers is simple, the sushi and the service are consistently top-notch. You can really taste the freshness in their sushi, and it's amazing that they maintain such high quality while keeping their prices so reasonable. It’s a combination that's hard to beat! And a little tip, you absolutely have to try their green tea crepe cake. It’s a definite highlight. For any sushi lover who wants a reliably great meal, this is the spot.
Masakari Sushi has been our go-to sushi restaurant for years, and for good reason! The service and food are consistently amazing, every single time. We're always impressed by the high quality of their sushi, and it's all offered at very reasonable prices. It's this unbeatable combination that keeps us coming back year after year. If you're looking for fantastic sushi and a reliable, wonderful dining experience, Masakari Sushi is the place to go.
Sushi is excellent quality and the menu is quite extensive and creative. One thing I would not recommend is the greentea creme brule dessert. I love greentea flavor, so while I was skeptical of it being combined with creme brule, I wanted to try it. It was too bitter, as the top layer was burnt and didn't work with the natural bitterness of the matcha. I recommend the greentea mile crepe cake instead
I don’t usually review restaurants, but this location was different. After some pondering, me and my family decided to go for a Japanese restaurant to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. We chose Masakari because the restaurant photos and reviews looked promising. Upon stepping into the restaurant, I was greeted by friendly staff and seated immediately. I was instantly impressed by how organized and clean this location looked compared to other similarly priced restaurants I have been to. The waiter was extremely friendly, recommending me unique and authentic dishes, such as the Kobe beef special roll, Sambal lobster, and the live scallops appetizer. The food came quickly despite how crowded it was, and words cannot describe how DELICIOUS everything was. The lobster was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had! Me and my family were incredibly impressed by the amazing taste and presentation of the food. Everything was so fresh and well-made! From the amazing service to wonderful food, this is a location that I will definitely go to again. 10/10!
VERY crowded, but I mean the food is amazing so I see why lol. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach , the presentation of the food is GORGEOUS The leftovers were nice for later also. The staff was attentive and kind, but I really wish they would've let me spin the wheel before I left, I mean who doesn't want to spin a wheel 😏 and it was my first time there so it definitely would've gave me a reason to come back. Just expect to spend a decent amount of money here! (It's worth it though👻)
My friends and I went here for dinner and it definitely satisfied our sushi craving. The food was delicious and the drinks were good as well. The service is on point and the staff was friendly and professional. Everything met our expectations. The presentation of the sushi was beautiful and the fish was fresh. I’d definitely be back!
Amazing service and fresh sushi 🍣 Didn’t go here for couple of years and visited again last week and it was amazing! Fresh seafood and tasty sushi. Highly recommend to eat oysters shots and yellowtail jalapeño appetiser. Simple sushi rolls are great Friendly staff Will be back again soon
This place is pretty good for a chinese-owned Brooklyn Japanese sushi restaurant. They have a fairly big turn around, so their food is always fresh. In my opinion this is the best sushi restaurant in a 2-4 mile radius. However the reason I didn't give it five stars is that they use imitation crab meat and claim that it's real crab.
The best sushi I’ve ever had, the appetizers are also amazing. Great scenery! Been going there for years because the prices are unbeatable! But recently, the prices of the regular rolls went up a little and the sushi wasn’t the greatest that day. The food is still good but I am definitely going to go to a different place with fresher food especially since they hiked the price, not worth the travel to sheepshead. If you’re already in the area, this is for sure the best place!
They always serve fresh sushi, which is something that not every sushi place can be proud of, and i have been checking most sushi places in the area. They can do little better with their customer service, and especially with their delivery, but still, they worth it. I have been here many times, and i am planning to come back in the future. And the prices are ok too, which make it my ideal place for sushi. Very good appetizers, and when they are not too busy they can be very friendly.
Very good place. But not cheap at all. Food is great, service is great. Price is high.
The restaurant is located in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn. They prepare Japanese cuisine. Soups, salads, hot and cold appetizers, sushi, entrees, hibachi dinners, lunch specials, desserts and beverages are available. I ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner and salmon teriyaki dinner. Both included miso soup or salad. The hibachi noodles were added as a side dish. The food was very good and well-prepared. Friendly and helpful staff.
The food was good but two chicken tempura orders became two chicken tempura rolls. Everyone loses with this employee mistake. We don't get enough food, the restaurant doesn't sell a higher priced item and I have to write an average review. Heard another guy complain his food took over an hour along with everyone waiting for food voicing there unhappy opinion.
A little "overhyped" place for the food they are making. Decent sushi/rolls, but nothing special about them, definitely overpriced them for no reason.
Nothing special about the rolls at all, the tuna/walnut salad was drenched in some syropy sauce, service is not great either. No “thank you”, nothing. Seems like the waiters do not wanna be there.
UPDATE: It appears that the restaurant is under new ownership. The cork fee is now $10 and the fish is not consistently fresh. Unfortunately, this place has gone considerably down hill and I can longer recommend it. Unassuming, no frills, BYOB with $5 cork fee sushi spot. Solid rolls, decent prices and fresh fish. Best time to visit is on Friday evenings when they might have something special that's off the menu like a live scallop or live uni. All you have to do is ask about the specials. Two of the best rolls are tobiko King and Cajun blue crab.
The food is really good but the customer service rep. was rude to me two orders in a row. So if is kind of bringing down the overall experience. Fair to say that waiters were always nice when eating in.
Used to be a regular customer three years ago until I moved out-of-state. I came back here in 2022 because my girlfriend likes sushi I wanted to show her my favorite local sushi place. The place looks completely different - probably new management. TLDR - customer service took a big hit. We came when there were maybe 3-4 tables of people (about 15% of full capacity) and basically had to beg for the basics. Some of the food was the same as before and the rolls were pretty good/average, but the customer service was really bad - nobody was attentive to anything, it took about 10 minutes for them to ask us what we want to drink and give us the bare minimum (water), we weren't given any plates, napkins, or silverware/chopsticks for shared dishes until we asked, and some of the food didn't taste as fresh as it used to. The tuna tartare was worse than before, the uni was completely spoiled (but they gave money back for the pieces we didn't eat which is okay from a customer service standpoint).
Place looks nice and clean but that is about it. This is probably the worst tasting sushi place in Brooklyn.Sushi rolls that I picked off their menu were not fresh and with some funky chewy texture. It didn't even taste like sushi. When I wanted to speak with their manager I was told by the waiter he was not available.Guy acted like he didn't understand English all of a sudden. That's great news ! I am glad I only ordered 2 rolls of sushi and I didn't even bother finish it. I will never eat there again...until they hire better sushi chefs.
Their food is always great but last time I got really bad food poisoning from their sushi
Used to be my favorite sushi take out restaurant, but food quality began changing few month ago. They started using lower quality fish for their rolls and sushi. My last order they used fat part of the salmon on my ordered sushi, it looked disgusting. I complained few times, but it didn't really make a difference.
Giving it a two star review because they skimped out on the sushi. Meaning instead of putting yellowtail in my roll they put fake crab meat.. love that. Thanks (rainbow roll photo attached below) and also as I went to grab a leaf from next to the sushi ( realized there’s black dirt, the wash was not proper and I don’t know how much more of dirt I’ve eaten … dropping stars there. Hopefully we won’t get sick.
We used to visit this place before, but now our friend picked up a delivery for us. I ordered miso soup and spider rolls. The miso soup was okay, but the $11 spider roll was disappointing! The size was incredibly small, the rolls were practically see-through, and there was no avocado as advertised. They even included spoiled crab... When you eat it, the crab tastes like swamp, some kind of dirt, or maybe even its own waste. I was left hungry, so thanks for the awful dinner and for leaving me hungry. P.S. I hope I don't wake up with food poisoning tomorrow.
They used to offer a great lunch; unfortunately, since last year the quality went down. I ordered beef nagimaki & it wasn’t good, the mango kani salad was cut up in weird chunks and it was soggy, the rolls were okay but not uniform. Disappointing…
The service was slow for a small quantity of people on a 2pm sunday and it took nearly 15 minutes for ONE roll. Not to mention the food poisoning that I experienced earlier today around an hour after I ate. I saw previously they responded to another persons review replying with that they do not have anything that mixes with raw and cooked fish well thats a flat out lie. They served me a Volcano roll with cooked fish in the roll and raw spicy salmon on the top. That is not okay at all. This establishment may have been amazing 6-7 years ago but now it is nowhere near the quality it used to be especially for its price. Do better, I expect more from a sushi establishment that has serious competition on the same block.
DO NOT EAT HERE! Me and my friend got food poisoning and called them to let them know and they called us liars. they were skimpy with the fish and it wasn’t even safe to eat anyways. Every time we eat here we tip good and order a good amount. The disrespect is astonishing. EDIT: apparently the owners think they have a medical degree and give out false information. Food poisoning can start 6 hours to three DAYS… we called within the three days. We were both sick and haven’t eaten at any other establishment other than here together. Shame they don’t care about their customers!
The salmon cucumber roll I ordered the salmon was tasteless and the rice was super sticky to the point that the soy sauce wasn't absorbing it...also the to go soy sauce taste sweet and not salty. Used to be my favorite place to order out
This place is absolutely horrific. To start off the food we ordered was late so we waited an extra 15 minutes for it after ordering 40 minutes ahead. Next when we got home the order was completely wrong. Missing food items. Next as I was eating, the curly black hair was seen on my entire order of sushi. It was as long as Scottie Pippins nose. It was disgusting. This place used to be very good but now it's an disgrace to nature and all human sources of life. If you want to take your chances be my guest 😫
This restaurant has become completely obnoxious with cost cutting. Iv been ordering here for 10 years and this is the last time. I ordered $100 worth of sushi and they didn’t give any soy sauce or chop sticks, when I called to mention they said it’s part of the new policy, can’t give soy sauce for free? It’s a sushi restaurant soy sauce should be included for free. The quality has gone too. Do not order from here.
My recent visit to Masakari restaurant with my two friends turned into a disheartening experience due to the appalling lack of service we encountered. Despite the restaurant being far from busy, we faced a shocking wait time of 15 minutes just to place our order. Unfortunately, the ordeal did not end there, as we had to endure more than 30 additional minutes before our order was even processed, revealing a severe flaw in the restaurant's service system. When we arrived at Masakari, it was evident that the restaurant was not experiencing a high volume of customers. Therefore, we expected prompt and attentive service. However, after being seated, it took an inexplicable 15 minutes for a server to approach our table to take our order. During this time, we tried to get the attention of the staff, but our efforts went unnoticed. Finally, when the server eventually came over, we placed our order, hoping that the delay would be compensated with quick service. Regrettably, this was not the case. To our dismay, more than 30 minutes had passed since we placed our order, and there was no sign of our food arriving. We began to wonder if our order had even been put into the system. Observing the server, we noticed that he was attentive and efficient with another party of customers nearby. They had arrived later than us but received their orders in a timely fashion, while we were left in the dark about our own meal. The lack of attention and the indifference displayed by our server were disheartening. It was evident that we were not given the same level of importance as the other party, and the entire experience left us feeling neglected and unvalued as customers. The situation only worsened when we eventually inquired about our order's status, and it was revealed that our order had not been entered into the system at all. This revelation was shocking and completely unacceptable. We had wasted a significant amount of time waiting for a meal that had not even been processed. In conclusion, the service we experienced at Masakari was deeply disappointing. The 15-minute wait to place our order, followed by more than 30 minutes of neglect despite the restaurant's low occupancy, reflects a severe lack of attention to customers' needs. The blatant inefficiency and indifference displayed by the server highlight the restaurant's failure to prioritize its patrons adequately. As a result, I cannot recommend Masakari to others until they address these serious service issues and demonstrate a commitment to providing equal and efficient service to all their customers.
it was my favorite sushi place before today’s experience. I ordered 3 rolls lunch. I love spicy yellowtail roll but couple of times including today it was disgusting. No chunky, no even spicy mayo inside, just rice and HUGE pieces of fish which is really nastily 🤢. very disappointed. you guys need to pay attention on the quality of your food.
The sushi was good but the server almost begged for a tip at the end. We asked for change on our cash bill and they frantically ran back to us and said ‘You do realize the bill doesn’t include tip?’ and we were like ‘…We know…’. We just use the change from the cash to pay the tip. I have never been back since. And never going back.
Waited 1.5 hours for delivery and then they didn’t even package the order the right way with caviar on it as they charged me. When I called they had no meager to speak to. Very disappointing.
They offered good food in the past, but not anymore. The dragon roll was terrible, the eel was mostly missing, and it did not even have a eel flavour. It’s a shame. Time to check other restaurants in the neighbourhood.
Purchased 2 spicy salmon rolls with crunch. My niece was eating the rolls and made a squealing noise. Opened her mouth and there was a sharp piece of plastic. Which cut the top of her mouth. Thank god she didn’t swallow it! The next day I started calling the restaurant as soon as they opened, the manager was not there I left a message by 4pm still no response. After several calls the solution was sorry he’s your money back. No remorse very bad customer service and a high chocking hazard!
This has been my local go-to sushi spot for so many years. I had stopped going here momentarily due to food poisoning years ago but started ordering from here again. The sushi quality is not always consistent I must say, but it gets the job done. Last night I ordered sushi and sashimi platters. At 5am middle of night I woke up to horrible stomachache and diarrhea. Food poisoning all over again. It is now evident that they do not have quality control over their sushi, and this is very scary. I am out of commission again, and in such pain. I felt compelled to leave a review this time. Never again will I go here. Edit review after reading response: I’m not sure why they claim I keep saying I got food poisoning? Literally the first and only time I commented, but since we are going there, other family members have also had food poisoning after eating your stale sushi, but I was always reluctant to speak up because this has been my spot for so so long but enough is enough. Really surprised by the defensive response, rather than a simply apology? but it makes sense now.
Super ridiculous! The rice is falling off. For reg $ ..4 rolls for 38$... many places you can get a party tray of 10 rolls for 35-40$. The rolls are extremely small as well. They place all 4 rolls in one box...( online is buy 1 get 1 free - placed 2 orders of it ) it is common sense for 2 people.. how you put all the rolls in 1 box. Supposed to be ready by 12:30pm but it wasn't ready till 1:09pm. Called to ask and the staff was super rude. Bad customer service trying to argue. Not recommended at all!
terrible experience. we waited forever — way longer than any restaurant should make people wait — and when we finally tried to ask what was going on, the staff literally yelled at us. no professionalism, no apology, nothing. just rude. the whole place felt unorganized and chaotic. definitely not worth your time or money. i won’t be coming back and i wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
honestly the worst experience ever. we waited three hours and still didn’t get a single thing we ordered. the staff kept ignoring us, and when we tried to ask what was going on they literally yelled at us like it was our fault they couldn’t serve the food. the place was disorganized, rude, and just not worth your time or money. save yourself the stress and go literally anywhere else. told us to wait 1 hour when we already waited a maximum of 3.
