We found Mazzat thanks to Google Maps and had a wonderful and memorable dinner here after walking the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. It's a lovely place with attentive service and fantastic food. We had beer and wine to drink, but it looks like they make great cocktails too.
Food was way more than 5/5. I went with my friend at the end of July when visiting New York and still think about the chicken 🩵 also it was lovely to speak with the owner, you can see how much he loves the restaurant
Last minute dinner plans and it was a great experience wonderful food and great staff
The most underrated restaurant in Brooklyn. The execution on the proteins was excellent: filet, lamb rack, individual seafood items in the seafood tagine all perfectly cooked. A specific callout is the kofta - after having it here, I’ve realized all other kofta I’ve had has been overcooked. It was incredibly juicy and flavorful. The atmosphere is old school but relaxing and upscale. My friends and I got here fairly late, but Jay (the host) welcomed us in. Overall, we had a great time, and I will definitely be coming back!
Everything here was great! The service was fantastic, everyone was very attentive and social and kind. The food was amazing, especially the kofta and the lamb rack. Will definitely be visiting here again
Great place! Will definitely be coming back! Waiter was amazing, super helpful. And the food was amazing- fantastic rack of lamb and mixed grill. Seafood was fantastic too. Highly recommended!
Mazzat on Columbia Street is a true neighborhood gem. I have been here a few times already and recently came back on consecutive days just for the chicken orzo soup. It reminds me of what food used to taste like growing up, comforting and made with care, just like mom used to make. The lamb dishes are also outstanding, full of flavor and perfectly cooked. A place I will definitely keep coming back to.
We had a lovely dinner on snow filled night. We made a whole meal of the appetizers - hummus, falafel, spinach pie, great salad. All wonderful. Great food and reasonably priced. Recommend.
An incredible place, with amazing food and even better staff. With endless choices in the city this restaurant really stands out. Jim loves what he does and loves to share his food and culture with everyone who walks through the door. I could not recommend this place enough.
Really nice ambience and atmosphere. The waiters are always paying attention and have really good recommendations. The food was brought out quickly and was always warm. Their vanilla ice cream is to die for and goes amazingly well with their cheese kunafa. I ordered a lamb shank for myself and it had enough lamb to feed 3 people 😂.
Absolutely love this place! Mazzat is easily one of the best Mediterranean restaurants in Brooklyn. The food is incredible — super fresh, flavorful, and made with care. You can really taste the authenticity in every dish. The falafel is crispy and light, the lamb shank falls right off the bone, and even the labneh and za’atar are amazing. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, and the whole vibe of the place makes you feel at home. Chef Jimmy clearly puts his heart into the food and it shows. If you haven’t been yet, definitely give Mazzat a try. Whether it’s lunch, dinner, or just drinks with friends, you’ll leave full and happy every time!
I found Mazzat almost on accident while walking from Red Hook to Prospect Heights. The storefront exudes an understated sophistication, which the interior matches. There’s nothing pretentious or gaudy in this restaurant. It’s all functional without being completely barebones or lacking aesthetic sense. The wait staff are very friendly and professional. They pay attention to your table, offer tasteful advice and pairings, and aren’t overly pushy about anything. I ordered a beefsteak tomato salad, a chicken wrap with fries, and a lemonade. The lemonade tasted very fresh, not drawn from preservatives at all—it had the tang characteristic of real lemonade. The salad was awesome. It had tomatoes, olives, cheese slices, and red onions, all doused in a nice olive oil and lemon mixture. The chicken wrap was solid, with juicy, high-quality chicken. The fries were quite good too, certainly far above most basic fry options you get at diners or “faster” Mediterranean restaurants. They were crispy and seasoned, while also having no lingering oil or grease on them at all. The waiter offered me a baklava for dessert, which I decided to go for. I’m definitely glad I did. It had a perfect pastry layer that was fluffy and crispy. The pistachio filling was awesome as well. This is the second-best baklava I’ve ever had honestly (the only one that beats it is at Finjan Coffee in San Diego). Mazzat is an absolute need-to-try. If you’re in Brooklyn—heck, if you’re in Manhattan or Queens—you need to make it a point to try this restaurant out.
Incredible meal at Mazzat in Brooklyn — and coming from someone who’s Middle Eastern, trust me when I say this place nails it. The flavors are authentic, the dishes feel like home, and the execution is top notch. Falafel? Best I’ve ever had. Light, crispy, and packed with flavor — like little golden clouds. The lentil soup was comforting and rich, lamb shank fell off the bone, and even the labneh and zatar hit just right. The mezze platter was a standout — fresh tabbouleh, smooth and smoky baba ghanoush, and more. The chef is incredible, and the staff made the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. Can’t speak highly enough about it. If you want real-deal Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food, this is it. I’ll definitely be back.
Went to Mazzat about a week ago and it was really good. We started off with some chicken cigars and falafel. The falafel was delightful. I liked the chicken cigars but they were a little dry which was helped by the sauce accompanying it. I had a grilled chicken plate with garlic sauce and oh my gosh. It was sooo good. The rice had this delicious buttery taste to it. My friend liked their wrap which had chicken in it. The baklava we finished so quickly because it was just that good. The bartender was so kind and so was the waiter. If this wasnt so far from me, I would go there all the time. Looking forward to my next trek there :)
