Shared a wonderful dinner with friends at Union Pizza Works before a night out! It's the perfect spot for a delicious, well-priced meal. Atmosphere: chill and fun! Service: perfectly attentive. The staff explained the specials and menu items to us and were always ready to refill our drinks! I believe one of the managers/servers was Italian based on his accent, which is always a great sign! Food: excellent pizza! We ordered the special of the day which was AMAZING! We also ordered a margarita with prosciutto which was bellisimo! I could have had a whole one to myself 😂 We had the gem salad as well which was made exactly how I like it. Finally, we had some really great (and affordable!) cocktails and glasses of Prosecco.
One of our favorite restaurants in NYC. It's good. Take a lyft from midtown Manhattan good. My wife loves the 4 cheese pizza. They didn't have it today, we took the cacio e pepe. It was good. The crust is amazing - much better than eataly, at the very least. I love the cacio e pepe pasta and they made it for me with a smile. I can't describe how good this is. I've had it in several places and countries, and I have to adjust it. This one... Is just perfect. It's all that you want. Bite after bite of perfection. And I also have to call out their very famous Panacotta. My god. It is absolute heaven. You think you've had good desserts, but as you taste the blackberry and Panacotta together, you realize this is riding on an angel's wings. What a jewel of a restaurant. They put Manhattan to shame.
I’ve been coming here for years and it’s still the best pizza I’ve had in Bushwick. The atmosphere, the wine, the staff and of course… the pizza! It’s consistently delicious and satisfying. Most of all, I never feel that sluggish or guilty feeling after having a pizza or pasta here. The ingredients taste and feel different— highly recommend!
Nice vibes Good pizza Not anywhere near the best pizza in NYC but a great place if you're in the area and good for groups
There are other more well known pizza joints in New York but for me, these guys do the best pies! I’ve no idea how they are not more widely known. The rest of their menu is fantastic quality and also very affordable, particularly the happy hour meal deals! I can’t visit NYC without eating here.
Wonderful! Owners are super kind. delicious food at a decent price, and the best music when they have live DJs— the vibe is like a block party you’ve never seen!
The food was outstanding. Incredibly delicious and made me feel nourished and not just full. The service and atmosphere was top notch. Massimo, our server, was the bomb dot com. Quite possibly the greatest server in the whole city.
Agreed this is the best pizza in NY. True Neapolitan In the style of Roberta’s but union is better. Better crust better flavor. Also takes five minutes to come out not 30 min. Great people and reasonable prices.
Delicious, flaky slightly charred crust. Fragrant and flavorful tomato sauce. Had the Salami Piccante- wonderful and perfect balance between sweet tomato and spicy salami.
Fabulous ambiance, great food and friendly and intelligent service. Warehouse backyard style eating area with some great street art and fresh herbs all around. Family friendly, great menu. Great range of beer and food and deserts were beautifully presented and delicious. Quite busy, but service was very personal and the staff very responsive and kind to the children. Rolling Stones, great soundtrack.
Great pizza. Staff is friendly. Service was great too. I really like the vibe here. The space is decorated well it's open and spacious. It's a great atmosphere, and the pizza it's perfect. Truly one of the best in wood fired pies in Brooklyn.
Firewood, fresh made pizza that is just exquisite. Great place to share with family, date, or solo dinner. The staff is super friendly and attentive; they always make us feel welcome, and make the best suggestions. Their fried calamari, burrata, salame picante, and every pasta dish is magnificent. Glad to have this place near home.
Incredible pizza and gnocchi, I was blown away. On a whim we ordered a pizza with red sauce, anchovies, no cheese, it opened my mind to the idea that cheese is not essential to the pizza equation. Sauce is the most important factor! (and theirs is phenomenal)
Love this place!! Great pizza and the gem salad (ceasar) is exceptional. Laid back, cozy and welcoming vibe.
Great little spot! I walked over here after a show at Brooklyn Mirage. The servers were Italian and extremely friendly and polite. I enjoyed sitting outside with a Napoli pizza. It's a pretty cool neighborhood too. I would recommend.
Loved the outdoor seating and pizza was absolutely delicious. Service quick and efficient, but not very engaging. Tried two items off the special menu (a margarita-style pie and an order of roasted fennel). Really enjoyed everything. 👍👍
Had a great experience in Union Pizza on New Years Eve. Our server Ricardo went above and beyond. The food was delicious especially the pasta on the specials menu. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are considering eating out in 2021. Thanks again Ricardo for your excellent service.
Gnocchi and margerita pizza were incredible. The gnocchi was pillowy soft and the pizza was legit. I've had pizza in Napoli and UPW can whip up a good pie. We sat at the end of the bar and had a front row viewing of their beautiful wood fire pizza oven. Great place to come with friends or on a date. If you want a table on a weekend night, I'd recommend you make a reservation.
First off, if you don't or have not solo dined, do yourself a favor and go and experience it. My review is both to praise the food and there server but cause awareness on how tough it is out there for restaurants. So I had the prosciutto e Funghi pizza with a magnificently paired wine. The dough was fresh and had this gorgeous char that only comes from a brick oven, the sauce was light and sweet and bagged you to continue to eat. The wine had nicely earthy notes that paired well with the mushrooms. Definitely an envelope siciliano style pizza. My server had this welcoming and charming personality that meshed so well with the place, amazingly accomodating. As far as outdoor dining goes it was well secure of the elements far better then most Bushwick establishments. I was warm and had no wind whipping me in my face and didnt have to wear gloves to eat my food. Though that is the less ideal way, we do what we do in order to keep these restaurants open during this harsh climate. Also, be mindful of the strain this places are going through and tip generously!
Love this spot, easily the best pizza spot in Manhattan/ Brooklyn that I have been to, Robertas has nothing on this place . Food is quick. Decor and ambiance is rustic, open brick, there's a fire place thin, lots of seating, staff are awesome and the pizzas are superb. My favorite is the Salami Picante
Fantastic pizza. This pizza is just as good as Roberta's pizza. It has delicious hand-rolled dough, fresh ingredients, wood-fired oven. I got a pizza to go. The decor of this restaurant bar is really nice, warm, cozy, intimate, with low lighting and wooden and rustic decor. Recommend. On Troutman Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, a 5 minute walk from the Jefferson Avenue L train.
Three lovely recent Italian immigrants who opened a restaurant. They know how to make you feel home and special. Service is excellent and the crusty and thin pizza pie is real artisanal Italian made, not as other American Italian wanna pizza places...
Amazing customer service very friendly and welcoming. I had the drink Betty, loved it. If you’re into fruity drinks I recommend. It is also refreshing. For my meal I had the scrambled eggs with bacon and Caesar salad. Delicious. My son had the pizza (I took a slice lol) it was also delicious and very healthy tasting. Like everything was fresh and you could tell wasn’t anything extra in the food that wasn’t good for you.
One of the best pizzas in New York (guaranteed by an Italian). They have a wood-fired oven and I guess that makes the difference. Ingredients are simply the best quality, you can feel it from the first bite. The atmosphere is very cozy too.
I know you hear this a lot, but I genuinely think this is the best pizza in Brooklyn. The texture and gluten structure of the dough is perfect, the ingredients they use are fresh, the tomatoes have the ideal acidity and the cheese is always melted beautifully. I personally always like to finish off with a glass of the grappa bianca, which is definitely worth trying if you've never had it. This is the restaurant I miss the most since moving across the country, and I still visit pretty much every time I'm back in the area.
This is what I call a great business model. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The pizza is so good and the ingredients are surprisingly of a great quality. The brick oven makes it even tastier. The staff team is amazing. I went with my friend and he forgot to tell them that he's vegetarian and asked them to give us whatever they recommend. They brought us 2 pizzas and then we told them that he's vegetarian. They apologized for the inconvenience and brought us a vegetarian pizza and refused to charge us for it, although it was definitely our mistake. This is a restaurant that I will go to again and again.
More than just Pizza at this fun and eclectic Italian restaurant in Bushwick. All their pasta and pizza dough is freshly made daily which greatly adds to the quality of all their spaghetti & pizza offerings. Their Cacio and Pepe is second to none in NYC, and all their Buffalo Mozzarella pizzas are to die for! One of the best signs of how great the food is here, is that many of their patrons are real Italians from the motherland who are either visiting or live now in NY. They accept Credit Cards, not sure why some recent reviews say that only cash is accepted, that just not true. Love this spot!
Very cool late night, quality food restaurant. We were impressed with the modern industrial decor, ambiance and the delicious Neapolitan style pizza. To my taste, the dough lacked a bit of salt but otherwise a great experience!
Probably the most reliable place for Italian food in the north brooklyn area - I’ve been coming since circa 2016. Always exceptional pasta, pizza, apps, and desserts. I would bring my friends, even the ones from Italy, and they could eat it happily. For years and years! Mirco & Riccardo held down the operations and the menus and the standard was always beyond belief. Past couple of times, it has not been quite as good. Riccardo just left; Mirco is about to leave soon. Other staff has left because of this, food has slipped. It’s a shame. I’ll come back but it won’t be the same. I’ll miss the prime cuisine this place has provided for years. ❤️ - Andrew
It’s one of the best pizza restaurant in Brooklyn in my opinion. The staff is very nice and the atmosphere is great. Highly recommend it!!
Exceptional Pizza, I will definitely return for more when I go back to NY.
Union serves up authentic thin crust pizza in a converted garage space. It's warm and comfortable, with good drinks. Though the pizza gets a bit droopy in the center, it's tasty, and the pasta dishes steal the show. Try the rigatoni Norma, with sautéed eggplant and ricotta - delicious!
I loved the food. I ordered the Salame piccante 12inch pizza along with a margarita and it filled me up. The ambiance is really relaxed. I originally sat outside but since my phone was drying I moved inside where they let me charge my phone. The only problem I had here was the waiters weren’t really checking up on me to see what I wanted. I ended up putting my order at the bar. I would give 5 stars if the wait time wasn’t so long but overall great price, food and the drink was nice 😊
It is a beautiful space for both indoor and outdoor crowd. Ideal spot for brunch in the hipster heaven of Brooklyn. Most dishes are big portion, great for sharing. Staffs are very friendly and attentive!
Very busy for a Monday night. After we sat down, the host disappeared, but the bartender saw our hungry faces and came to take our order. While the food was great, the establishment was not ready for so much traffic. The couple that was seated next to us waited over half an hour and did not receive their food due to a backlog of orders. Unfortunately, they left.
the Vegana is no longer on the menu, but $3 to substitute vegan mozzarella on any pie IS. My friend went to lengths to secure a vegan salad dressing with the server...who completely missed the point & the salad arrived with slabs of cheese. Read the room... Delicious, regardless, but $$$€€€.
Had a great time with some friends before a show. Pizza was delicious! Menu isn't super big, limited kinds of beer & wine.
Normally, I love Union! It's a perfect neighborhood spot that's romantic but casual and the service is always fast, friendly and attentive. On this last visit though, I wasn't pleased with the food. The pastas are priced the same as some of the more revered pasta options in NYC, but the quality just isn't it. The peas in the Maccheroni weren't fully cooked so the texture was crunchy & unpleasant. The Cacio e Pepe was made with cream which isn't authentic or necessary – the dairy drowned out the peppery flavor! Just wish more attention went into the other menu items the same they put into their pizzas, because those are great.
Pizza was good, but slightly too expensive for the price. Service was very nice and welcoming. AC only really did its job in parts of the building, it was super dependent where you sat whether it was cool enough.
Many of the reviews say that this is the best pizza in Brooklyn. I'm adding my vote that it's very good. I don't want to argue, I just want to eat it. We had the Breakfast pizza with tomatoes, scamorza, arugula, egg, and bacon. It was supposed to have asparagus on it and no one said anything... Whatever... We also shared a very solid kale salad with sun-dried tomatoes and anchovies in a rich dressing. The service seems a bit gruff and harried. It was much more chill than Roberta's. I'm looking forward to checking out the rest of the menu next time.
Excellent pizza here. I had the margarita and a spicy tequila cocktail. The food and drinks are great of course but a bit too long of a wait for the meal.
I had the pesto pizza. I thought it said something about roasted tomatoes in the description. There was tomatoes on the pizza but I don’t think they were roasted before they were put on the pizza. I would have just called that tomatoes. Anyway tomato or tomato. The pizza was good and the space was really nice. I kinda wished it was a bit busier.
I love pizza very much. I eat pizza a lot and I go to different places to try every week in Brooklyn and I was left disappointed by this place. They pizza was just OK. The dough was very good and perfectly cooked but the Tomatoe sauce was plain and flavorless. Also the service for us was bad. We ordered a couple of beers which took forever to come and catching the servers attention was almost impossible. We were trying to get the check for like 10 mins and the place wasn't even full. The best thing about the place is the restaurant itself. It is very pretty and cozy. But the rest was disappointing.
The place is awesome. Stuff is very friendly and cool. Pizza was great but... pies are much smaller than in any other places in Brooklyn and it feels like you don't get much for money you pay.
I took watermelon salad & fried calamari, calamari was very tasty & not to oily, salad was small portion & also tasty. THEY DONT HAVE TO GO SILVERWARE 🍴 IF YOUR PLANNING TO EAT OUTSIDE THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR YOU, or you can eat with hands 🙌🏽 as I did 😱 I don’t understand how restaurants can have take out option without silverware 🍴???
Foods great. Atmosphere is great. Service is great. Manager needs to understand what being a reasonable empathic human being means. I made a reservation online which didn't mention any event going on, after arriving we saw there was a DJ set and a private event. We figured we could deal with it. However as the night went on the music got louder and louder. By the end of dinner we were shouting to talk to each other. This spot is normally a chill date spot so this was very unusual. The wait staff were reasonable and understanding, not their fault after all. At the end we told the manager that it would have been nice to know while making the reservation that an event was going on. Manager told us that yes they could have done that, but however we should have told him sooner. Listen man, we couldn't have planned for the music to get worse. Also you're the manager, it's your responsibility to make sure all the guests are treated fairly and correctly, not just the ones having a big party that affects the rest of the patrons.
I've been here before and was pleased, but this time I was truly disappointed. Barely any cheese or basil and tasted a little burnt. This experience was nothing like I remembered. I even looked at other reviews with pics and quickly realized I got the short end of the stick. I paid 18.50 for this 12 in Margherita pizza..
We had a reservation tonight, a Saturday, at 6:30pm. While the food was pretty good, we had to ask to be moved outside because of the DJ. We had no idea they were going to be going for a club vibe in a pizza place that early. The music was super loud and we had to push through a small crowd of people dancing to go anywhere near the door. We had no idea this was happening until we got there. Couldnt find anything on their website or socials about it, and we weren't warned when making the reservation.
Updated 2022-11-06: NOT THE SAME RESTAURANT! Absolutely not comparable to the original! Original WAS 5/5 in everything. The new one is 3/5 at best. The pizza is smaller. SKIP the pasta. The calamari and burrata app are NOT the same. Very sad 😔 this has changed for the worse. The Original was on par and maybe even better than Roberta's. The new UPW is not comparable at all. Go to Roberta's. The two wonderful wait staff has also left. This is a completely different restaurant. Even judged on its own merit this is is average across the board at best. Not worth coming back. Updated (4/22/2022); Came for the dinner this time! Was just as amazing! Food and service are always amazing. A real neighborhood spot! 5/5!!!! The calamari app was was super tender and crispy! Squid ink seafood pasta was savory and fresh! Tagliatelle with ragu was meaty and satisfying. Both homemade pasta dishes were all on point! We also had the pizza with speck, this was amazing as expected. The lemon Pana Cotta with pineapple was light and the smokey creme burle were excellent desserts! Great food, excellent potions, friendly and warm service, and real cozy atmosphere. Definitely one of our favorites! Original review for brunch: Excellent food. Excellent service. Excellent atmosphere. Overall fantastic! Everything exceeded expectations. The portions were great and the flavors were on point! Made reservations for the Saturday lunch/brunch around 2pm. Quiet and breezy day and we sat outside. Service was quick and we were quickly seated. Ordered the paloma cocktail. Nicely balanced with tequila, grapefruit juice, and a hint of sweetness from the sugar. Not too much ice and came out quickly. For appetizer, we had the burrata with prosciutto. More than enough to share between 2 people. There's drizzle of olive oil and fresh black pepper. The burrata was creamy and went well with the flavor of the prosciutto. There was also complementary foccia bread. This was excellent cheese and ham! For entrees, we had the carbonara and pizza with mushrooms and prosciutto. Both were excellent in portion and flavor. The carbonara was just right, al dente, the flavor was really cheesey. Not the saucey type of carbonara but it was excellent nonetheless. The pizza came out piping hot. The thin crust was crunchy, the toppings, the sauce, and the cheese were excellent together. Great texture from the toppings and then sauce. The crust was good as well, it wasn't burnt and has nkxe chewy texture. For desert we had the Panna Cotta with the berry jam on top. Soft creamy and milky texture from the Panna Cotta contrasted well with the tangy and slightly sourness from the berry jam. Light, flavorful, and not overly sweet. Superb neighborhood spot! Will definitely be back for dinner!
Very uncomfortable seating. All seating is on little metal stools. The food is okay. They do offer Vegan food. The Vegan pizza was better than regular. Overall, it was an okay dinner.
Good pizza. Forget bresaola. Undrinkable Chardonnay, Aperol Spritz flat, watery and warm. Unwelcoming atmosphere. I'd been there before the pandemic and the quality of food and the atmosphere were really good. I don't know what happened to the place.
Not the best place for pizza. The dough was not cooked properly leaving more than half the slice dangling. Quality of the toppings were also mediocre. They charge a $3 service fee for each card when paying.
It's crazy that an established restaurant in 2016 operates on cash only. But fear not, there's a cash machine in the front with hefty ATM fees. Service was slow. The pizza was good but not exceptional. I'd have given it 4 stars if I was only evaluating the food. But they lose a star for speed and a star for not taking debit/credit cards. This is, after all, the 21st century.
Please take the vegana pizza off the menu if you don’t serve it anymore. Wasted a trip here to be told there’s only vegan cheese (could’ve went a million other places for that) and couldn’t even modify to add the extra veggies I wanted.
Terrible service. I made a reservation for a Tuesday evening around 6pm. As we entered, the restaurant was pretty empty with the exception of a few diners. We were greeted promptly and directed to be seated at a 2 person table which my bf and I found a bit small. I asked if we could move to a table with some more room, referring to the shared style tables that can accommodate multiple groups, to which the server/manager answers “sure, but if a table of 5 happens to come in and we need the space we will have you move”. So if you just stay here I won’t have to bother you”. I was so taken back by his comment that I had to have him reiterate just so I could be clear, and he just confirmed. It was so unnecessary. His demeanor was careless and pompous. He then suggested a round table in the back that he felt safer to put us in. You know, as the restaurant awaited the huge Tuesday night wave that we would have somehow interfered with. All I remember thinking was “this place better be jam packed by the time we’re done with our dinner to even quarterly justify that rude comment he made”. And it wasn’t. Like the nerve of him ! I understand that some restaurants have strict policies about seating, but he could have just said no. And if I didn’t like it I could have just went somewhere else. Even as we were eating, another couple walked in and sat themselves at the same picnic style long table that we asked to be and were accommodated, no problem, no warning. I really wanted to like this place and even traveled far to get there bc the vibe seemed great online. but this experience was disappointing.
We were a party of 8 people, all Italians as the waiter who served us. We came there to celebrate the birthday of a friend, who brought a cake. Pizza very good but when we paid the waiter came back with the check asking if there were any problems because we didn't leave them the tip they wanted. We left a sum between 15 and 18%, but for him it wasn't enough so we left other money and left. The pizza is good but the place was very cold (apparently, only one wood stove to heat all the place); moreover, some of us needed to take over the contact lens because the restaurant was very smoky (probably because of the wood oven). Considering all these details, the waiter's behavior was very inappropriate.
I came here with a friend but I highly do not recommend going here, they literally took an hour to make 1 pie and the waiter completely ignored us the entire night. The pie was just ok, I thought it was way too bready for pizza. We actually wanted to order another pie but was afraid of the wait time so afterwards we went to Artichoke Basille's pizza literally right at the end of the block and got the best pizza slices. I would pick bassille pizza takeout over this place any day. Quick and slices are much bigger than their 1 pie.
Took our order on the website for pickup. We arrived during regular business hours only to find the business closed. Called - noone answered. Turns out they are “undergoing repairs” which is apparently posted on their Instagram page. Somehow they did not bother noting this small fact on their website and decided to allow orders and charge folks’ cards. Emailed for refund - no response. SMH
Review is for the gluten free pizza only: Union Pizza Works used to do a great gluten free pizza but now seem to have replaced it with a frozen base which is awful. On this occasion it was also not fully cooked and so inedible. It would be better for pizza restaurants to not serve a gluten free product than to serve one that falls well below the standard of the rest of their menu.
This was a restaurant my family enjoyed going to but unfortunately the waiter/managers behavior was very inappropriate. We ordered food that did not arrive and we were bought a pizza that we did not order. We explained to him that he did not get our order correct and there were missing items. We asked if he can remove items from the check. His response was very defensive and unprofessional. He was licking his lips, shaking his head as if we did not know what we ordered and responding with a very passive aggressive attitude. Instead of being understanding about the situation he proceeded to argue with my family. That evening did not sit well with us. Horrible hospitality.
We booked a table at what was supposed to be a decent restaurant. Turned out to be one of the worst dinner experiences of my life. The DJ was absolute trash, playing on what must be the worst sound system ever created by mankind. The music was so loud I couldn’t even talk to my friends at the table. The $50 wine? I wouldn’t drink it again even if I was dying of thirst. Food was okay. Honestly, I’d rather lick the subway floor than eat there again.
