We had a great experience at Elefanthai in Cancun. The restaurant was beautiful and the atmosphere was very relaxing, especially with the lagoon view. The staff was very pleasant and attentive throughout the meal. One of the highlights was being able to see alligators from our table, which made the experience feel unique and memorable. The food was excellent and full of flavor and everything we ordered was really enjoyable. If you go at night be prepared for mosquitoes, but the staff is happy to bring mosquito repellent if you ask. Overall a wonderful dining experience and definitely worth visiting while in Cancun.
Elfan Thai is a must-visit restaurant. The ambiance is pleasant and welcoming, and the food is flavorful and well prepared. Overall, it offers a great dining experience.
Our family of four all at once rarely find a restaurant that is perfect in all aspects. Elefanthai is one of those gems we all four enjoyed. All food items we ordered, service, ambience, and location were perfect. We started with Thai beer and mocktails (Gulepe and Junoon Thai) and appetizers (Tandoor Chicken Tikka, Kashmiri Paneer, and Spring Rolls). The mocktails were awesome, made perfect to our taste. Tandoor Chicken Tikka was so juicy and tasty that we reordered it. Then we tried Thai Fried Rice and Irani Chicken Curry with Garlic Naan. Super tasty. The Mango Sticky Rice as dessert was very delicious. Ambience was great for a family conversation, each table nicely secluded in a hut. We did not see any crocodiles as some reviewers said they did; but as we enquired that staff it is true apparently and they shared some pictures. They also said in last 20 years they never saw any issues with any crocodiles encroaching into dining areas.
Wow! The sunset from this restaurant is just and amazing view while your eating or chatting over drinks and snacks. The food was awesome, flavorful, good size portions. The hut private tables are unique and some are higher than others so it’s some what private. Great place for dates. The decor is phenomenal. Especially when it’s a little dark out and all the lights are on. It’s pretty cool. Definite recommend for all age groups. Make sure you mention your allergies.
We went here for a dinner date and reserved the lagoon spot. The view was nice but it was pretty hot even in late afternoon. We ordered 3 appetizers (2 chicken satay, 1 spring rolls), 2 mains (Masala, and a Thai dish), 3 drinks (including bottled of water since we didn’t bring one), and 1 desserts. The total bill was $2900+ MXN which is expensive compared to our other dine in experience in Cancun but considering the meals and the place, it was worth the visit. The staff are very attentive, friendly, and can speak basic English. We spent almost 2 hours in the place since you can hangout for a while after your meal. Overall, it was a great experience and definitely an unforgettable one. At some point, there will be crocodiles in the water. We saw a small one, and we were really hoping to see a big one but the waiter said they usually show up late in the evening.
Get the Tandoor chicken with Malai and jasmine rice on the side. We’ve been here twice in 3 days, because this is the best chicken we’ve ever had. It’s so moist, flavorful, and the sauces they bring are a great addition. We’ll be back again tomorrow (lol). Service is great too, everyone is extremely friendly and they’re very accommodating to our allergies.
Saw this while walking around this high-end mall. There were several waterfront restaurants, Mexican, Japanese, and Thai/Indian. I chose Elefanthai, what an amazing restaurant. I don't even know where to start the place is phenomenal. It's like you're eating in a village in Thailand. I give kudos to the person/ team that actually put this establishment together well thought out. Over the water table bungalows, speechless views. Now, to the food, this was a clash between thai and Indian culture. The fusion of taste and collaboration left me wanting more. My motto still stands. In order to give a rating, I have to order at least five dishes. All were top-notch. After eating Indian food, my stomach is a little disturbed, nothing yet as I'm writing this review. I highly recommend this establishment, If you are within 30 minutes of this place you need to make a reservation. Reservations are strongly encouraged. This is one of those places after visiting who will bragging rights! *****
Great experience. Very peaceful and serene setting. If you want to sit out on the lagoon water, you must make reservations either at the 5:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. slot. If you want to see the sunset, the 5:00 p.m. slot is the only option. Even when you make the reservations, it is kind of first come first serve to see if you get to sit out on the lagoon. Overall service is really good The food is really good. I really like the Indian chutneys, the Indian chicken cooked in a tandoori oven was excellent. Thai food is also good and Indian chicken curry was good. I read a lot of reviews about mosquitoes and bugs but when we went in January, there were none. So I guess it just depends what time of the year. I'll definitely come back here again. The only negative I noticed is that when they give you the bill, they try to push the different percentage tips on you to make a payment and decision right then and there. They don't have to do that.
Very nice food, fairly limited menu but all made fresh so that makes perfect sense. Some tables in the garden, think rain Forrest setting, very lush with subtle lighting, some tables on small platforms built on legs over the water with lovely views of the bay, and sunset. 1 main, 1 garlic naan and 1 beer $MX600. Worth making a reservation.
We celebrated my son's birthday here. They helped us reserve a table at the lagoon area (limited tables available in lagoon) We ordered Indian food and it was delicious, service was quick, the ambience was amazing facing the ocean, the cool breeze, candle light dinner. A lovely family get together. They brought in a cake and sang happy birthday. My son was surprised and loved the entire dinning experience.
ElefanThai is a great spot for Indian and Thai food in Cancún, especially for dinner. The lagoon-side setting is beautiful and relaxing, with over-water seating that adds to the vibe. The food is flavorful and well prepared—curries and dishes like chicken tikka masala really stand out. They also have great drinks and cocktails that pair well with the food. Good portions, friendly service, and a nice atmosphere make it worth a visit.
We visited ElefanThai at La Isla to try their Indian food, and it was an outstanding experience! The ambiance was truly out of this world, creating a unique and immersive atmosphere. The service was first-class, with friendly and attentive staff who made us feel welcome. One thoughtful touch was providing bug spray, which was really helpful given the lush, forest-like setting. Overall, an amazing dining experience—highly recommended!
The concierge at our hotel recommended it and my husband and I really enjoyed it. Our table was in a private hut over the water and we got a rain storm while we were dining, which added some magic to the experience. The sunset view was gorgeous
If you’re in Cancun- just go. Make the reservation and go! This place is incredible! Everything from the ambiance, staff, drinks and food was on point. I don’t even like this style of food but went for the place itself and the food was delicious. Yes it’s a little pricey but it doesn’t matter. Go in the evening/sunset time and request a table over the lagoon. Only warning- keep purses/phones/valuables in a safe spot away from the water. Can be a very romantic/intimate vibe or chill spot for a group. Absolutely one of the best places from this trip.
This is a Thai Indian mixed restaurant. The Menue is marked to show what are the Thai dishes and what are the indian dishes. Make sure to mention the hotel you are staying at, because you could get a discount or a free drink. The atmosphere is amazing. We went during sunset and got seated by the water- which was stunning. No dress code. We liked the Indian food a little more than the Thai. I would put a $$ or $$$ for the prices. I think it is worth the experience.
The food is good and the Ambience is very nice we got to be seated beside the lagoon with a bed. Service was fast. Our starters was the pohpia thod-(egg roll) and chicken satay. Not bad at all. My husband had chicken green curry with rice and their naan bread to dip in green curry and he loves it. I had fried rice Mix and it was good. We already prepared that we gonna be disappointed but overall we are impressed 😅.
If I could give Elefanta 6-stars, I would. This is one of the best restaurants I have been to in the world. We stop in at least. Once on every vacation to Cancun - recommend you do the same. The Indian food: spectacular, authentic, and among the best - period. We got the spring rolls as appetizers- excellent. Perfect crispness, texture and flavor. The dal makhani , chicken murgh were fantastic, spicy and rich. Garlic and onion Naan were perfect. The atmosphere: there’s no place like this . Sitting on the lagoon - different configurations depending on number of people. The ambiance , background music, overall vibe is awesome. Service: impeccable. Juan and Francesco were attentive, informative and nice to talk to.
Came here for date night. The ambiance is amazing. Tables by the lagoon are awesome ! Really good thai food. I highly recommend it if looking for a romantic scene or dinner with friends.
It feels like you have stepped into Bali. The lush greenery, over water cabanas, the whole setup and ambiance gives you Bali vibes. Best place to enjoy your food and sunset in Cancun. The Indian food is hands down the best. Haven’t had such yummy food outside India yet. Dal makhani and paneer dishes were outstanding. Every single item that we ordered was so tasty. Decent portion size, fast service, great price. Went here twice during Cancun trip. Watch out for mosquitoes though. Ask for spray. Overall highly recommend this place for vegetarian Indian food. The restaurant is in La Isla luxury shopping complex.
During our Cancun trip, this restaurant truly exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was absolutely delicious, with each dish bursting with flavor and presented with flair. I ordered the Angara Paneer, Tawa Subj, and Atishi Kofta, and each dish was a masterclass in flavor and texture. The Angara Paneer was creamy and rich served with various chutneys. Tawa Subj was crispy and savory, and the Atishi Kofta was tender and aromatic. Gulab jamun with vanila icecream was great. The ambiance was great, with a stylish and intimate setting that felt like a boutique gem. Restaurant sitting was on lagoon front ,various thatched huts were for dining. But what really made our evening special was the perfect service - attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable staff who went above and beyond to ensure our night was unforgettable. From start to finish, this restaurant impressed us with its top-notch cuisine, charming atmosphere, and outstanding service. As we were leaving restaurant staff pronounced typical words SHUKRIYA means thanks,PHIR MILENGE means will meet again.
My friends and I came here for dinner on our first and our last nights in Cancun. Each time the food was amazing, the atmosphere great, and the service good. The restaurant was never very busy each time we went but if you plan to stop by on a weekend I would definitely recommend reserving a table. I can honestly say eveything we tried was absolutely delicious including the drinks and if I had to recommend one thing it is the lamb. I'm not a big fan of lamb normally but this was so amazing and worth a try. This restaurant is definitely on my top five list of best restaurants I've ever been to.
This restaurant is amazing! From the view, to the ambience, to the music it's perfect. We had the opportunity to sit at the bungalow facing the lagoon for a special dinner celebrating our anniversary. We tried the Chicken appetizer (#24) and it was so soft, moist and delicious! We also ate the Chicken Tikka and Duck. Both dishes were so good! When we mentioned it was our anniversary the waiter did not hesitate and surprised us with a special cheese cake dessert! We really appreciate his attention to detail and extraordinary service it made our last night in Cancun a wonderful experience! We will surely be back whenever we visit Cancun again! Check out the pictures of the mouth watering food and scenery!
This is a gem of a place. Must visit for the ambience and sunset views even if you’re not a big fan of the food. The food was great though! Only note of caution - carry bug spray to avoid getting bitten by a hundred mosquitoes at dinner time.
Simply amazing. Great ambience and equally great food. Right from Apps., drinks to dessert everything was awesome. You won’t be disappointed if you are craving for authentic Indian food. Little pricey but I found it was worth it especially when you get such food where it’s least expected. Highly recommended.
Incredible seating and views. Try and reserve a water-side table. They have a mix of Indian and Thai food — I love their Thai food and can confirm it’s top notch. Need to try their Indian food. Drinks are fantastic as well. It’s never been very busy when I went so the social vibe has been limited but it’s like being in a jungle, so I can imagine that when it’s food it’s incredible.
Incredible views and atmosphere. The Indian cuisine is some of the best I have ever had, we ordered the Tandoor Chicken Angara and the Dal Mahkni. We were pleasantly surprised to have such high quality Indian dishes in Cancun. The chef and kitchen team are talented beyond the average place. It was a very special getaway style dinner during sunset on the water.
Wow... wow Went there for my birthday and the food was so good. They gave me a birthday cheesecake. The atmosphere was amazing. the only thing I didn't care for was trying to find the restaurant, and more lighting is needed to see the menu and the food at night
This place is beautiful is an understatement… the theme is of a Thai fishing village with your dining table inside bamboo huts. The restaurant overlooks the lagoon, go there before the sunset, to get some of the most beautiful views of the sunset. This restaurant brings the best of both cultures “Indian and Thai” … the food is amazing. Their cocktails even better. Make sure you make a reservation ahead of time, consider yourself lucky if you find a table walking into the restaurant. Bon appetite
Very romantic atmosphere! I love the bungalow style seating over the water. This is a perfect spot for a date night, anniversary etc. The food is delicious, and it is really nice to be able to order both Indian and Thai fare. The service is speedy friendly and attentive.
We had Indian food at this place and it was excellent. The portion sizes were perfect - not overwhelming. Our server Chuk was very attentive and good. As we had made the reservation through our hotel concierge, we had an awesome table on the lagoon in a tiki thatched hut to ourselves. Very private and great place for a celebration
Absolutely amazing restaurant. Perfect location and very flavorful food. Minced lamb for an appetizer was just out of this world! It came with 4 complementary sauces, each of them were delicious. Great service too. Highly recommended!
Amazing! All dishes we had were outstanding, so delicious. For starter we had crispy spring rolls and shrimp salad and for main dishes pad thai with shrimp and #62 spicy shrimp dish and they were all SO tasty. Dessert thai star Also great! Restaurant is definetely on a pricey side but in my opinion it is fine, except for the drinks. Drinks are rude expensive, cocktail is around 20 USD, glass of wine same approx. 20 USD. Staff is very nice and polite - hostess, waiter, food runner. View next to water is very pleasant and romantic
Wow! What an amazing experience. The atmosphere was tranquil and serene. The restaurant grounds are gorgeous, and the food was spectacular! The servers were attentive and kind and very accommodating. I highly recommend this spot if you’re ever looking for something truly different in Cancún.
Amazing place to enjoy a meal during a vacation to Cancun. Very scenic outdoor seating that is basically in the lagoon. Several of the tables are directly on huts situated right over the water with a 360 degree panoramic view of the entire hotel zone. Typically very full so make sure to call ahead and make a reservation. Try to visit when the sun is still out because otherwise much of the effect of being on the waterfront is lost. Food is really good here, hospitality is very good, very attentive and helpful staff. Expensive but we’ll worth a visit, make sure to sample some of their special deserts!
Always delicious food, the service is lovely, and the atmosphere is gorgeous. If you can, ask for a table on the lagoon. Very private and perfect for an intimate night. Be careful ordering cocktails, it can be really expensive for a shot of alcohol.
This is a must go place. Service is so kind giving bug spray and being very communacative. All the seating areas were couches and chairs inside huts and treehouses with ambeint lighting. The food was so good. I would recommend the panner, naan, any sort of Iranian chicken, and the Thai noodles 🍜. This place deserves a Michelin star!!!!!
We just happened to see this restaurant on our way to cambalache restaurant. Being Indian origin we had a sudden craving for Indian food. But we were not sure how the food would taste. Surprisingly whatever we ordered Thai, Indian and Iranian tasted so yummy. We don’t have this quality restaurant in Houston. We highly recommend this restaurant for visitors
Overall it’s very good and I recommend this place because of the atmosphere and food. We ordered Pad Kraphow Nuea (beef basil stir fried), Por phia(Spring rolls) and Spicy Raw shrimps. All dishes are excellent I would give 5/5 starts for tastes and presentation as a Thai. Downside of this restaurant is a service because it’s dark and isolated tables so we were left out and it was hard to call waiters. Food took a long wait too. Unfortunately, on that day we dined, the billing machine was broken and it caused even slower services.
We all had a truly wonderful time here, such a unique venue with walkways and dining huts 🛖 in the water, tree house type areas to chill in, food was delicious and the staff are lovely and welcoming. Great job to the whole team. We will be back
For best sunset view it is a must visit place(They do have limited seats, need to book it at-least a day advance). Tandoori chicken and tandoori panner is a must try dish which is taste’s truly Indian cuisine. It is a mix of Indian and thai cuisine. If you want to have a truly Indian taste then definitely it is not a Place for you. Good place, decent food. Drinks are amazing.
We visited for lunch yesterday and there were a few pros and cons- Pros - the views and ambiance are spectacular, you can watch the sunset and the kiwi cocktail was delicious. Waitstaff are attentive and are eager to please. Willing to take photos. Con - too expensive for the quality of the food you get. We ordered garlic naan, coconut naan, butter chicken, mixed Thai fried rice, chicken satay, and lamb chops. The lamb chops were a bit salty but after I notified the waiter, they remade it. The naan bread was subpar, I’ve had better. My husband liked the butter chicken, the mixed Thai fried rice was average, not memorable. The chicken satay was atrocious, would not reorder. We spent around $163 plus $20 tip. For the price we paid, I expected better tasting dishes but overall has a good time due to the ambiance.
We were so excited to go here. It was so difficult to find that we actually had to find someone to walk us back there when we finally got there. We were enchanted by the atmosphere. It was absolutely beautiful. that's where the enchantment ended. The food was subpar. My husband got tiki masala that was very light pink and color and tasted like vodka sauce and I got a Thai dish that was absolutely not authentic. It tasted like a Lipton noodle packet. I was disappointed I would not recommend this place, but the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful. That's all I could say about this place. Anyone who know anything about food knows this place is not authentic at all.
The food tasted good, but they took forever to bring it, and it was just grilled kabab. Also, very small portion. Honestly, don't waste your money there.
We had made a reservation and arrived a bit late, but the staff received us without any issue. We went for dinner, and the atmosphere was quite dark. I understand the aesthetic they were aiming for, but the lighting design was very poor — rather than evoking intimacy, it gave the place a somewhat gloomy, almost eerie feel. We were seated at a table by the lagoon, where the lighting was minimal: a single fixed light in the center of the table and only a few dim lights above. Compared to the neighboring restaurants, this one felt oddly somber — “haunting” might be the closest word to describe it. There were many mosquitoes, though the waiter kindly offered us mosquito spray, which was appreciated. We looked through the menu, asked for a few recommendations, and decided on Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan Bread, a Chef’s Special, Tom Yum Goong, and a Pad Thai (listed under a different name). The cocktails were excellent — we ordered six or seven, all different and recommended by the staff, and I can’t recall a single one I didn’t enjoy. The chef’s special was delicious — well-deserving of its title. The Tom Yum Goong had a pure, authentic flavor, not watered down or muddled, though the portion was quite small. The Garlic Naan could have used a stronger garlic presence, while the Pad Thai wasn’t particularly unique but still very enjoyable. The Tikka Masala was average. One detail I appreciated was that the tip wasn’t added automatically — a small but important sign of respect toward the customer. While I would consider returning for the quality of the food, the overall ambiance and pricing make me hesitate.
I came here first 2 years ago and then again yesterday. 2 years ago, I would say everything was much better (food, service, and no mosquitoes). This time the service was terrible. She didn’t understand English very well and we had to keep repeating things and using google translator. Despite that, she brought us double dishes that we didn’t order. Plus she seemed a bit frustrated when it was her mistake. On top of that, the Iranian chicken dish was terrible (just lentils and chicken mixed together). We only could take a bite of that. Green curry was more noodles than curry and chicken. The taste for that was good otherwise. We tried the lamb chops nearly $75 USD, and it was not worth it. Mosquitoes were also biting us. It was way too pricey for the amount and quality of food. I will not be returning. The lighting is also so poor at night and despite making reservations, we still didn’t get the water view.
Go to Patravali instead, it has best indian good in Cancun. In elefanthai we ordered malai paneer and paneer kurchan. Both were okayish. Quantity of the food is very less. The naan has only 2 pieces and one naan is not enough for 1 person. It is expensive and the quality is not worth the money. The atmosphere is good tho. While paying bill, they added 20% tip without asking us and directly asked us to tap. When we checked the bill, we realised.
Day 1 We got a seat immediately.. The place is a little too dark for me and I could barely read the menu.. we were asked if we needed anything to drink and since we had our own water bottle, we just asked for cups.. the server was surprised by this request and her facial expression wasn't the greatest.. We ordered the paneer angari, veggie biryani, naan n paneer makhani.. the food is absolutely delicious. Everything including the condiments were amazing. When we were done with our dinner, we literally waited for 15-20 mins to get our check. With tips, the total was $1230 and I gave $1300 cash.. the server conveniently said thank you and I reminded her to get the change and after 5 mins, she comes back with $20.. when I asked the remaining cash, she blatantly told me I gave her $1250 which was not true. She tried to explain me the bill and she turned on her cell phone flashlight to explain the bill..I asked her to check on it again and she left hurridly..There were 4 people discussing the issue and I let it go and decided to call it a night Day 2 Did not want to deal with the server and manager. Decided to order food but the manager saw me, told the front desk to wait even thou the front desk person told me to go inside to order and then manager tells that food will take more than 30 mins. I decide to leave without ordering Day 3 Did not want to deal with server and manager and I wanted to order food to go and was immediately sent to the order area.. I ordered and got the food in 15 mins.. we ordered the same food as above expect got the athishi kofta as the curry. In the 15 mins I sat waiting, I was bitten by mosquitoes at least 4-6 times.. I literally started walking in the restaurant and even the server acknowledged there were mosquitoes .. they add tips automatically even if we order food to go which is crazy Food is awesome service is horrible.. the manager needs a complete refresh of a training... The restaurant is literally next to the water and it's pretty dark
If you happen to stumble upon this place, do yourself a favor and turn around and leave. The food is extremely expensive, especially the halal options, and the taste is average at best. The only redeeming quality is the ambiance. If you’re desperate for a place to eat, don’t bother with the expensive halal options. Just order Daal makhni.
4.5 stars is crazy work. Food was so bland after telling them to make it spicy we gave up after apps and ordered one small side dish for dinner. And decided we’ll eat at the resort instead. Food is wild expensive and not worth it, for 3 apps and one side entree bill was $120 USD. And the server demands a tip, so trust us and not the fake reviews. Food is disappointing and has zero flavor, you are paying to sit lagoon side for a hour for $120
The food is okeyish. The atmosphere is special with infused elephant deity element. But I personally do not like it, and we arrived in the evening, it was a bit too dark and I can barely read the menu. The most annoying things that I cannot stands is the amount of mosquitoes/bugs there is. My friend and I got bit 7 times on our legs during a 10 mins stay there. We end up choose to get take out and leave as soon as possible. And waiter seems not happy that we did not give him enough tips for that.
